Got my phone yesterday and downloaded an MP3 ringtone.
Moved it from download file to ringtones file in the device memory.
The ringtone isn't listed in the devices ringtones and if I select "choose from files" option it doesn't give me any files to choose nor a way to browse the storage.
Any tips on how to choose an MP3 as a ringtone?
that's weird, even if you don't put it in the ringtone folder, you should be able to see the downloaded ringtone anyway in "choose from files" option. It supposed to pick up any downloaded mp3 ext in your device. I suppose you could try and download another mp3 file just to make sure. If that doesn't work, well you could try third party apps from play store.
I kind of fixed it.
Yesterday I hadn't yet put in an SD card, but today I did. There was already music on that card so I checked if I could see those mp3s in the browse option, and sure enough, there they all were. But not only those on the card, the one I had on the device memory in ring tones file too!.
It is a big odd, but without the SD card, it won't see mp3s in the device memory. I'm no expert but I'd say it is a bug.
Still, it's the only slight glitch I've found so far., and considering the price....

Now you can use your mp3 as ring tonr just install the cab file in your xda and from the explorer long press in the mp3 tone and choose it as ringtone i hope you like it.
.
where's the file broad??
,
it's okay now..sorry
not working
it is not working, after install the file, i still cannot select the mp3 as rington in settings, even put in the ring folder still not shown in phone rings
tried it too but it didn't work... maybe OS thing?
No, it works only on Windows Media 10. If you Upgrade to 2.20 CHS Rom you'll have it!
Thanks eFiend
it works for me; doesn't use / need wmp10. what you do is go to file explorer, if the mp3 file you want is in the storage card then go there. once you see the file; put your stylus on it for like 2-3 seconds. a small menu should appear; the last option in the menu says "set as ringtone" or something like that. if you click on this option; wait for like 3-5 seconds as the app copies the mp3 file and puts it on the rings folder in windows. from there; if you go to phone settings you'll see that the mp3 file you wanted is now the ringtone for the phone.
the only disadvantage i see is that if you have a nice mp3 file that's more than 3mb in size; then that's the same file which will appear in your rings folder. this could eat up some memory. and since you'll eventually answer the phone (and not wait for the whole song to finish) then you may want to consider converting the bitrate of the mp3 file to be lower. i use fernanda porto's tudo de bom (from chill brazil...awesome!) and it's 4.5mb in size...the same size is in my rings folder...
ITS DOESNT WORK...!
I HAVE INSTALLED THE FILE CAB IN MY DEVICE BUT I GOT NOTHING MENU FOR SET MP3 RING TONE IN PROGRAMS MENU...
CAN ANY BODY HELP ME ...?

Works for both mp3 and wma files, cool, thanks.
also I have a ROM version 2.06.00WWE, ExtROM Sin.Merged.v.1.0
Been waiting for this...!!!
Neat and Cool....
Else all my ringtones are wave files.. it is eating a huge chunk of space...
Thanks for sharing!
Tried that - still don't work..
Hi there,
I tried holding the stylus on the mp3 file, but it does not give "set as ringtone" menu. On a WAV file, however, it does.
Does this program require WM2003SE?
mp3 as ringtone
Hi!
I managed to install the cab and also choose an mp3 song as tone, in the context menu there is "set as ringtone", however, it didn't trigger the mp3 song that i picked, does this happen to you?

I realised it doesn't work !
coz i forgotten to remove the wave file... now i re-set the mp3 as ringtone upon holding the stylus for 2-3 seconds... i called my number.. it defaulted to bass(comes with set).Tried other mp3... still the same..
Hi Maxtro.. Nice to see you're on same country / network as me! too bad the app doesn't work. :?
hmmmm, that's strange. maybe it depends on the rom versions? anyway; i'm sending you some screen shots just to show you how it goes. just follow screens1-5..as you can see the last option allows you to use the mp3 file as a ringtone...
Not working mate ... set as ring tone menu is available but don't change anything ... mp3 file is not being copied to windows/rings/ folder ... and not shown @ the ring tones set up ...
yeah man, nice prog !!!!it works on my xda2
Help PLEASE, I don't think I'm stupid BUT ..................
Has anyone succeeded in putting their own ringtones onto the Lobster.
I've tried every format - including mid/midi, I've tried every folder - including Windows but they will not show up!
I note that the pre installed ringtone files are ticked as "in Rom" when I check with total commander but I am unable to give my new files the same attribute.
I have used prophet, S/E P900 etc etc and never had a problem.
Am I missing something obvious.
Thanks in anticipation.
Put them in the /My Documents folder (on the phone)
Try putting them in the /My Documents folder directly on your phone (not the SD card).
I've got cut down (30 seconds worth) of WAV and MP3 music files as ringtones in this directory with no problems, as well as midi files.
Hope this helps,
Cheers
Finally worked it out!
You need to put the file under Application Data under My Device, then the tunes will be listed when selecting Ring Tones. Not very obvious! Poor design by lobster
i know how to put mp3s as a ringtone
what you have to do is make sure they are in wma format, then put them in windows>rings. i did that with mine and it works. mp3s dont work, unfortunately. its pretty bad programming on microsofts account
you should move the files you want to use as ringtones in:
my device\application data\sounds\
it works like a charm every time, and it's cool to hear Pain - Shut Your Mouth.mp3 as the morning alarm
and it's good for ringing too, it sounds like an oldschool phone and when
you take out the beast (Lobster) people are like WTF, I like it
one messy thing is that windows media player doesn't find it when you try to open file through it, through explorer it opens, but who cares, TCPMP is a loooot better IMHO (if you don't watch wmv's of course , but only then )
greetings from Bulgaria!
Did someone able to set an mp3 as ringtone or notificationtone, or alarmtone using programs like "Rings Extended", "Tone Picker" or "HandcentSMS" that allow to browse and then select an mp3 stored anywhere in the SD?
On my O1 no one of that programs works: e.g. if I set the mp3 from Settings->Sound->Phone ringtone throgh that programs, when I call the phone it rings with a default android ringtone and not the mp3 selected.
The only 'working' method for me is to put the mp3 into
/sdcard/media/audio/alarms - for the alarms,
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications - for the notifications (sms too),
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones - for the rings,
and then select it through the standard Andori interface (Android system, that in my O1 shows me only the files stored in the folders just listed).
Could that these programs are incompatible with the O1???
In the HTC Desire with Froyo of my colleague they work perfectly.
Did you have the same problem or it is a problem of my O1 only?
Many thanks for the help...I'm going crazy!

Works like a charm for me. And i just placed mp3s in a /media folder on sdcard.
What works fine for you? Are you use an app like "Rings Extended"? Or are you set the ringtone from Settings->Sound->Phone with the standard Android interface? Or are you set the mp3 as ringtone from the music player?
I used "Ringtones" app and this works. But it seems that copy some melody into /sdcard/media/audio/notifications should be works too.

There are more than one app called "Ringtones", please could you link the one you use?
OK, maybe I am not clear in my explanation...what does not work for me are the various mp3 apps ("Rings Extended", "Tone Picker" or " HandcentSMS) that allows you to select an mp3 in the various settings that ask to choose a sound file .
If I go to Settings->Sound->Phone ringtone with the standard interface of Android I can see only the mp3 stored in the specific folders under /sdcard/media/audio; with the app installed, I can select any mp3s stored anywhere in SD, but even if I select the mp3 then it always plays a default tone.
Yes, this is solved using the music player or even Astro, but the fact is that I would use an app like EasyProfiles to create and manage phone profiles so as to change the ringtone when certain profiles are selected. EasyProfile (like any other apps like that) calls the same interface to select the tone as when I go to Settings->Sound->Phone ringtone ... with the same results (default ringtone is played instead the mp3 selected).
Has anyone installed one of these apps to select the mp3 and/or could do this simple test? (in the Desire with Froyo of my colleague the apps work properly).
I have just made a SW reset and the problem persists ....
I have not problem with it.
For firstime I download Ringtones app and tried download some sounds via this app - it works fine, but there are only some songs and I like anothers
Now, when I read that it is possible just copy media files into right folder I tried it and it also works fine. Ringtone can be selected and when I tried to call myself and everething was fine.
There is two possibilites, why it doesn work:
1) You have your phone conected in USB in USB Mass Storage mode - in this case mobile phone can not acess into memory card, so file can not be used for playing.
2) You call from number, which have selected their own ringtone.
Also I noticed this:
When you are connected in Mass Storage mode and somebady call you, ringtone is reset. In this case copy ringtone into memory can help, but in phone isn't many space for this kind of waste of space.
The link does not work, but anyway from your description I understood that your application download and set the tone so, to set the tone you have to open the application. This is not what i need to do: I know that if you use the music player or other app like Astro and now Ringtones all it works, but as said I need to use application like "Rings Extended", "Tone Picker" or " HandcentSMS" the provide only an interface to the other apps or Android system settings to select mp3 stored anywhere in the SD.
So, to be clear, the only test that can clarify me the problem is the following:
1. install Rings Extended.
2. go to Settings->Sound->Phone ringtone, select 'Rings Extended', then select 'Select musuc (Rings)' and then select an mp3 that IS NOT stored in the folders (and subfolders) /sdcard/media/audio/.
3. now call the phone (or go to Settings->Sound->Volume and change Ringtone volume to have a preview of the tone) and check if the tone played is the mp3 selected or a standard gingle.
I repeat, this operation works in other smartphone like Desire and Magic, but not in (my?) O1.
If someone could do this simple test I will so happy
It seems that here was some communication noise Yes I can confirm this issue for you. Simples way will be contact developers of this app and let him know, that it not works. For now I haven't idea how to make this app works properly.
Many many thanks!
I do not know if it is "correct" to contact the developer of the app reporting a bug...this app and all the others app that do the same thing seem work well in all the other devices only in the O1 do not work :-( .
I will try in anycase...hoping he has a O1 where test his app.
So Here's my issue:
I'm trying to put the awesone sound pack that came with the AOSPish rom posted a week or so ago onto my phone, which is now running a different rom (Nero's gingerbread look alike)
I don't want to put the tones on internal sd because I use the phone as my primary portable music player, and it's very annoying to have that stuff show up in the music player or DoubleTwist.
So when I place the files in /System/Media/Audio/*insert respective folder here* and reboot, the tones show up in the list for ringtones/notifications, but do not have spaces, do not play if selected, and do not play if I try to access them through ASTRO. The stock tones, however, do play through astro.
Now, I thought that this was an issue with the fact that I have a mac, and was getting file forks in there messing up the sound files. after zipping the audio files and unzipping with astro on the phone, This is not the case. the files play fine on internal sd until I transfer them to the system audio folder.
so my question is this: is there some ringtone manifest some where that tells the phone what ringtones are actually ringtones or something?
Thanks.
I just realized that my music player is not picking up on the music files I have on my external SD. I have them under the folder "Music" on the SD card's root. I copied songs over to the phone's internal memory - aka internal SD's "Music" folder, and the stock music player was able to see them. I'd like to keep the music on the SD card - is this not possible?
It is totally possible... I use WinAmp (primarily) and have about 500 sings on my SD Card in the Music folder and no music at all on the internal storage, it works fine, the stock player and Google Music see them as well.
Try going into Settings-Apps-<player your using> and Force Stop, then Clear Data, then launch the player again... remember if you have a lot of music it might take the app a while to load and index everything.

Well that's good to hear. But I just tried it and no luck. It's not even indexing or searching. I am using the default music player and it starts up like there's an empty card. I am actually now on newtoroot's one XxX rom, and the default player is doing the same as stock Google music also behaves the same.
I've tried unmount/remounting the sd card, no luck.
Not sure if this matters, but this SD card is a carryover from my Thunderbolt. So it has a lot of apk backups and other crap. Also, I noticed that I actually lost my video file collection on the SD card somewhere along the process. I am not exactly sure, but I think it's when I first moved it to the Rezound, because now that I think about it, I don't ever recall seeing the couple episodes of Futurama I keep on my SD card.
The original folder structure was on SD/media/video and SD/media/music. The video folder is now empty. I've since moved the music folder to the SD's root. There are no .nomedia files in the folders.
Hmmm... interesting, I didn't think the Rezound was that picky, is the music directory in the root of the sd card properly capitalized as "Music"? that is how it is on mine, and the files in it are just ordinary MP3 files...
How many MP3's do you have in there... I have around 500 and when I open Music after changing anything (even just adding one file) the little revolving circle in the My Library bar sits there for a solid 3-4 minutes before anything shows up. WinAmp takes just as long initially, but if you add or delete a file it sees the change in seconds.
I just tried adding a file to the /media/music directory on my SD Card and it showed up fine, but the stock Music player also took another 3-4 minutes to re-index everything before the list populated at all. WinAmp had it in the list before I could scroll down to that artist.
Are you sure the SD card is mounting correctly? Go to Settings -> Storage and scroll down to SD Card and make sure it shows "Unmount SD card" and it is not grayed out and it shows used and available space on the card.
FWIW, on this phone, I am on the stock 3.14.605.12 OTA ROM.
Yep it is. And I have only about 500MB worth of mp3s, so not that many. The thing is, the music player isn't even trying to search for it I read another post on droid forum with similar problem last night (lost the link). I think that poster mentioned maybe too many stray apk backups is causing the search to choke. The SD card is definitely mounted correctly - I just unmounted and remounted again to make sure.
Yep I was on that same stock OTA before this one XxX rom. Same result.
I am going to swap out sd card with the stock rezound 16gb, which should be completely fresh except for a nandroid backup.

Hmmm... could be the issue with too much other "junk" on the card I guess, mine is fairly clean, 50 or so camera shots, a handful of backups and some some other stuff, less than 500MB in total besides the music.
Seems odd that the Music app isn't even trying though, have you tried another player like PowerAmp or WinAmp? WinAmp Pro with the Album Washer plug-in is the BOMB, sync music over WiFi to the phone if you have WinAmp on your PC too, pretty sweet.
Yep it's working now. That must have been it - the thunderbolt SD card was too cluttered. I suppose I'll just have to go in and clean it up a bit. Sheesh Rezound, what's next, gonna make me clean my apartment too?
