How to open/unlock Android phone? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have got a person who is trying to open its Samsung Galaxy s6 screen to save images and other data. It seems the phone is kinda a locked.
It's an old phone with a broken charging port and the only way to charge is via wireless. So it happened when a person took out the card and turned off the phone. Now when you turn the phone back and try to unlock with a password it won't allow, meaning the log just disappears and you have to type your password again, and it's like in a loop.
Question is how to open a phone so a person can save all data?

@eddyys
The door to any Android device is ADB ( read: Android Debug Bridge ). If USB-debugging got enabled on phone in question then there is the chance to retrieve data stored on it. HOW-TO here.

Basically, there are two options.
1. Retrieve data via cable (in this case USB port is broken)
2. If it's rooted and via wireless?

Cannot unlock with Google acc

Hello.
Long story short, a friend tried to guess my lock pattern too many times and now I can't unlock the phone with my google account. I am sure I know the correct name/pass, I can log in on my PC, but my phone won't accept the password anyway. I know I can hard reset the phone, but this leads to another problem - deleting all my data. Is there any way how to save my documents? I tried connecting the phone with a PC via USB but it doesn't work.
I have two galaxy SII phones so I was thinking of taking out the disc from the first one and put it in the second one and then transfer the data to my PC. But I'm not even sure if this is even possible.
Does anybody have any ideas how I could solve this?
Thank you.
is your phone rooted? if so you can connect the phone via usb storage in CWMR
if is not rooted, you can rooted via ODIN and do the above mentioned
that way u'll save your data

I rooted the phone a few months ago, but recently I upgraded to ICS(I wish I hadn't) which removed the root.
I will definitely try that tomorrow. Thank you.

[Q] Can't get to data with broken screen

Hi,
My friend has broken screen of his Sony LT22i (Xperia P). The phone by it self works, but doesn't show anything. I want to take out all the data from his phone, but I can't do it, because:
1. Phone is locked by pattern. (I simply can't enter it)
2. Phone has not enabled USB debugging, so all the opened programs don't go through "enable usb debugging" step.
PC recognizes phone and even shows it in My Computer, programs does the same. Sad fact that phone has only internal memory, so I can't install any type of apps on phone. It hasn't ever been rooted. I don't know what to do, search around all the Google and that resulted as nothing.
Do you have any ideas, what to do?
Respectfully,
Raivo.

Recover data from a phone with broken digitalizer

I know this question was asked over, and over, and yet over again.
However, the discussions over the topic go over many, many pages, are not noob-friendly (the noob in question is me).
My device:
LG Optimus G (E975); stock; no root; no USB debugging; locked bootloader (I think)
The screen is working, the digitizer is not.
I can get into recovery.
I can copy the files from DCIM.
I have found this soft: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
I was able to make it work with another device. Maybe that's a good way to go? If I can get the USB debugging to turn on I could get all my data this way.
Also, when I get the broken phone into recovery mode, connect it to computer and use 'adb devices' it shows up as ' LG<some number of the phone> recovery>' - I don't know if it is a good sign or just 'meh, they all do that'.
What I want from the old phone:
Contacts. Unfortunately, when the phone broke it has not been synchronized with Google for some time, and some of the crucial contacts are lost.
All other data would be a nice bonus.
Since I can get the above software to work I think that what I need to do is 'just' enable USB debugging through ADB.
HOWEVER, to do this I think I need to get a custom rom? And that means rooting? WHICH would lead to data lost. I hope I'm wrong.
Any advice? Besides the 'get a new digitalizer and put it on'?
Please, help the noob!

To enable usb debugging you don't need root or anything. just go to settings > about phone > tap "build number" 7 times > back to settings > new menu "developer options" should appear > turn USB debugging on. When you connect your phone to the PC with ADB opened your phone will ask for authorisation - authorise connection and you're good to go.

This is a good sign, because it means ADB recognizes the phone and you can use it.
Thanks for the reply.
The thing is - the touch is not responding. So I can't turn it on through the menu.

Android Stuck in Charging only mode - No connection to computer

Hello Everyone
I am putting my problem in this general section with the hope to ask for help to more people compared to the Mate 8 section where not a lot of people go these days.
Since a while I am not able to connect my phone to a laptop. If I connect it to a laptop it just starts charging but nothing else. I have tried everything like:
Changing Cables (tried more than 5. I dont have the original anymore)
Changing Laptops
Changing the USB port of the phone itself
Updating Drivers
Installing Hisuite (current version 5.0.3.300)
Restore phone to factory settings
Complete formatting
Updating to the latest version (Current version Nxt-L29C185B582)
Changing the USB debugging/ Connection (MTP/PTP/etc)
And what not
The problem is, it doesnt get detected on the computer and cant connect to adb as well. All I want is to unlock bootloader and Install TWRP and Magisk. I have the unlock bootloader code but no way to unlock it since I cant connect.
Can anyone help me in fixing this stupid problem ? It is getting frustrating. If there is a hardware issue, what part needs to be replaced? Any help would be appreciated.

Go to the Settings of your phone---> About phone----> Build number tap this 7 to 8 times-----> Developers option is enabled----> back to settings ----> go to developers option ----> enable USB debugging.
When you connect to the phone to the laptop you will find an icon on top of the screen of your phone with a USB mark "like a trident", pull down the top menu and find the USB connection tab, (like changing the sim card if you intend to call through a specific card) e.g quoted, double tap the USB tab to obtain options ---> 3 options 1) MTP 2)PTP 3) USB charging only----> select the first option MTP (Media transfer protocol).
Now connect to the laptop you will find exclamation marks in the device manager of your laptop. Load the appropriate drivers on your computer and viola! this will establish connection with the device you are having. if you find difficulty in installing USB drivers, search the thread "Attempt to load USB drivers for Micromax E484 on win XP is a fiasco" in this forum. You will find the solution for USB drivers

Nope. Doesnt happen
When i connect with the laptop, my laptop doesnt even make that sound for the connection.
What is the model and OS version of the device and the model and OS version of the computer? According to your symptoms your phone appears to be in option 3) USB charging only. The phone will not be detected by your laptop or the like(Computer) in this mode. Merely remains in a charging state. Are you certain the option 1) is picked MTP? If the phone is not detected there appears to be some hardware failure, try another USB port to connect to the laptop. if all else fail a service technician will pinpoint the fault. It may perhaps be a data transmission failure of the devices port to the interior of the phone. This is merely an assumption.
best remedy would be a service technician.
Hope this helps

I have tried changing the usb charging only to all possible options but it still is the same. I tested in Linux and when I connect the phone nothing shows up in the logs. It's like it's not being connected . I have tried changing the usb port itself from the phone but it remained the same.. can the flex cable be a problem ? Mate series was never launched in India so I don't have any help from the service centre. I have to order the spare from eBay.com so there is no qualified technician who can help.. that's why I have to fix it myself somehow..
Thank you for your help

I quite doubt the cable will be the culprit as your device charges the battery while in an established connection with the laptop. As you state the phone USB port was replaced, it could be a some glitch before the USB port in the device where there is an interruption in the data transmission signal that cannot be detected by your laptop.
Could you boot your device, computer and connect the two and take a snapshot of your device (whilst connected to the laptop) and paste the same in the forum?
Perhaps visual cue could be better at dealing such mishaps.

Yes of course. It is connected to a computer now. You can see it getting charged but that's about it

Can it be something because of some wrong flash ? This problem has survived through 2 versions and 1 system upgrade through firmware finder .. and a complete format

Your USB trident icon is not indicated on the device, If you were to receive power from the laptop the trident would be displayed on top of the screen, even for charging the battery. The power source for your device appears to from other than the laptop.
I have pasted my device after connecting to the computer and the second icon from the top left is the USB Trident icon indicating connection with my laptop. Have taken the snapshot of the menu that I was describing .
I strongly feel you have a hardware failure rather than a simple fix and would require the help of a technician (ordinary if professional is unavailable). Am skeptic you could mend that on your own unless you are proficient in electronics. This mishap is not due to flashing wrongly too, unless you have changed the stock ROM with some custom ROM which has some bug that affect the USB alone.
Take the assistance of a technician whether professional or less is my counsel
Thank you

I did flash a different rom .. but then back to stock recently.
I can do basic electronics but the if the problem lies in Mobo .. then nothing can be done .. as I don't have the spares available in India. But I would hate to lose this phone as it was a perfect fit for my needs

Then the question of wrong flash or ROM issue does not arise

If you do not have spares is best left alone rather than tampering with it and rendering the device useless if any untoward incidents tends to occur.
But I would hate to lose this phone as it was a perfect fit for my needs
Send to the vendor directly if you have warranty for the device stating its complaints or request your relative or friends who live in the area where you bought your phone to hand it to the vendor or service technician and bear its expenses

Is there a way to unlock bootloader somehow without connecting to usb ? That would also solve the purpose.. I want to root it for some of the things to work and with the latest upgrade to latest version I lost the unlocked bootloader and root.. if somehow I can unlock and root .. I should be fine without the usb connection to computer.. but I have ran out of ways
Does Kingroot work for you?
I mean did u try it or u just want magisk?
If u didn't, kingroot may be able to root ur device and unlock ur bootloader, then u can flash TWRP using rasher.. & make a backup BTW...
After that, try using the adb sideload in TWRP to test ur connection with ur computer.
TWRP for ur device : (q.gs/DxuAH)
There is a way to unlock bootloader without USB via developers option.
Go to settings-----> About phone-----> Build number ( Tap this option around 7 or 8 times) till developers option is enabled------> go back to settings-----> developers option-----> OEM unlock option (Enable this option) to unlock the bootloader.

There is no FRP unlock, to circumvent FRP you need to factory reset or flash your firmware. The above quotation was to unlock the boot loader as you cannot access through your computer. Your sole option to unlock boot loader was through the above directions.
Moreover, King root application never ask for boot loader to be unlocked. Although a little unstable this is the initial program to root any device. Once you have the TWRP setup then you could switch to Super Su etc. according to your preference.
Could you paste your developers option snapshot here...

How to Shut Off: Usb connection "allow this computer to access your phone data?" CANCEL/ALLOW

Good Morning Ladies and Gents;
I am working with an LG G4 H811 (T-Mobile) on 20v (MM 6.0), which I would like to root. I have unlocked the bootloader, which is confirmed every time I start the phone. I then tried to root using LGUP, but the phone wasn't recognized, so I did an error recovery reinstall in LG Bridge, thinking a fresh software install would re-align things.
Now, whenever I connect the phone to the computer, I get a pop-up window on the phone saying "USB Connection - Allow this computer to access your phone data?" CANCEL/ALLOW and the phone does not show up on the PC screen or in Device Drivers until I tap "ALLOW". Therefore, it is not recognized by any software without tapping ALLOW.
More than an inconvenience, this effectively prevents me from any mods on the phone, because I need to shut off the phone and disconnect from the USB port, then reconnect with Volume UP pressed to get to download, and in download mode I have no access to ALLOW the USB connection, so neither ADB nor FastBoot recognize any devices, and the phone is not included in Device Manager.
Of course, the bootloader is unlocked, Developer Options enabled, OEM Unlock on, USB Debugging on. I am using an original LG USB cable. I have tried 4 different computers and three different sets of drivers. I've tried older drivers on older and newer computers, and vice-versa, for every combination available. Each time, I plug in the phone after a fresh computer install and let it install it's own drivers. Two of the computers are Windows 7, two are Windows 10. I've tried connecting in MTP mode and PTP mode, with no difference. I've removed the SD card in case it was affecting things, and done a factory reset on the phone. Auto Play options have been set on the PC to "Do Nothing". I've searched the internet and this forum without results.
Basically, I've spent two days on this before asking for help. Has anyone else had this experience and solved it with something other than drivers? I think I've just about run out of ideas! Thanks.
I don't root however it's probably Developer options>usb default settings>usb tethering
Try connecting directly from Disk Management on the PC. Use the scan for new drives option if it's not visible.
Thanks buddy, appreciate you trying to help out.
Tethering is a way to allow a device connected to your phone to use the phone's data connections. In the tethering instructions:
"You may not be able to access the data files stored in the phone's memory, such as pictures, music etc, or transfer such files between your phone and your PC when USB tethering is on"
However, its worth a try - so I set up tethering, unplugged the phone and plugged it in again - the same Cancel/Allow screen came up, and no device in DM until I tapped Allow.
I then opened Disk Management and plugged in the phone. I still get the Cancel/Allow screen, and rescanning devices didn't show anything new, because the phone is not in the Device Manager until I tap Allow.
The key here is finding out why the phone or computer do not store the "Allow" command. Normally, the phone will show this screen the first time you plug it into a computer, and when you tap Allow, it will store that someplace such that the phone and computer are recognized as safe devices. You should never have to see the permission screen again. My challenge is that I don't know where that permission is stored - is it on the phone, the computer, attached to the driver? Don't know. And I don't know why it's not being saved. If I had those answers, I could probably edit the registry (or whatever) to make this a permanent attachment.
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Maybe debug mode?
Try turning off Developer options.
Obviously there is a way, sorry but I never had to use that function.
Try some Google searches which is how I usually find answers and/or by just playing with it
Well, I wouldn't be able to communicate via ADB with Developer Options off. And I spent two days searching the internet before coming here, and all I found was people updating their drivers, which is why I tried so many combinations of Windows versions and drivers versions.
I'm actually kind of surprised that this seems to be such a unique problem, I was hoping someone would notice the post who had actually had a similar problem and fixed it. But I do appreciate you trying to help!
Sorry I can't help, but I never choose to root.
It's time sucking black holes like this that I deliberately want to avoid.
At least you didn't brick it...
ha ha... you got that exactly right! Every time I do this I end up spending DAYS trying to get up to date on everything that has changed since my last phone!
Well, I appreciate you taking time to try to help.
