Hi,
I'm having issue since I received the phone a week ago. Internet on mobile network is slow and high ping. As a consequence the apps are slow and some even give errors.
I factory reset the phone and no luck. The funny thing is that when I'm using a VPN everything works. What could it be?
Spoke to my service provider and they said is nothing wrong with the internet that they provide. Also, on WiFi there is no problem.
Please help.

If it's working with VPN is probably something about country restrictions or even operator restrictions. (Obviously they will say always that all is Ok from their side...)

The WiFi connection on this phone is worthless. You turn it on, it finds an access point but it still uses the phones cellular connection to browse the internet or any other data related app. What is the point of this thing?
no it does not.
Thanks for the reply GeLopez but it sure seems that way. I because regardless if I am connected to an access point or not the Internet is still slow.

Try turning Wi-fi off then go into start/settings/connections/connections settings. Pick the advanced tab/select networks. Try different combinations to achieve the desired results depending on how and what you are using the PPC to connect to. Now ok out of everything and turn Wi-fi on, now connect to your access point. Should work now. Let me know.
I will be out of the country for a few days beginning tomorrow, and wi-fi is going to be essential for me to avoid roaming charges. With wi-fi and Skype, I've got connectivity anywhere in the world.
I only use my WiFi and never use Carrier data.
Works like a charm.
Is there a setting that needs to be set. I can connect with any local wireless hotspot with this phone and the internet traffic on the phone is as slow as just using the carrier data network.

Check under Start Menu -> Settings -> Connections -> Wifi -> Adapters. Make sure that the connections are set to The Internet and not to Work. Also, make sure your wifi connection in there is set to accept a server-based ip address.
Thanks for the advice, I will give it a try.
I hope you get the wifi working for you. I use it all of the time and would be lost without it. I would not have purchased this phone if it was without.
Complain with sprint
I WAS GETTING THE SAME THING, I WOULD CONNECT AT HOME USING WIFI, BECAUSE I DIDNT HAVE A INTERNET PLAN, AND THE FIRST MONTH I GOT A HUGE BILL. I COMPLAINED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR UNTILL I GOT TO THE TECH GUYS, NEVER GET SATISFIED WITH WHAT THE CUSTOMER REP TELL YOU, HES GANNA TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY NO MATTER WHAT, JUST KEEP PUSING AND ASKING TO SPEAK WITH A MANAGER, ONCE YOU GET TO THAT GUY HE SHOULD SET THINGS STRAIGHT.
FIRST, HE CANCELED MY CHARGE FOR INTERNET USE.
2ND, I WAS GIVEN FULL UNLIMITED INTERNET ACCESS FOR LIFE. (ALONG WITH A OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE BACKING UP THE FREE INTERNET INCASE YOU EVER GET CHARGED FOR ANY INTERNET RELATED FEE.)
iM PERTY SHURE I COULD OF KEPT PUSHING IT AND GET MORE OUT OF IT, BUT FREE INTERNET FOR LIFE WAS A PERTY SWEET DEAL. THATS A 100$ MONTHLY FEATURE FREE.
heres what i did.
first i complained about the fact that the wifi, was a feature of the phone htc, not sprint. why should i be charged for using my own wifi. Dell doesnt charge me when i connect their laptop with my wifi at home. why are you?
i specificly rememberd i also said " the wifi is not for you to be charging, it is not a service that you offer it comes with the phone, so does this mean that your going to charge me, everytime i create a word doccument, every time i play solitare, everytime i take a picture with the phone camera? thats just redicolous, you have no right to charge me for a feature that the phone offers, it has absoloutly nothing to do with sprint.!"
I bet you backup your claim, they will give you stuff too.

I bet the whole deal was your fault. I bet you used the data connection instead of the wifi connection. Because it is impossible for them to track your wifi usage. You let the dialup data connection go thru with is the default connection and rang up the huge bill.
You are the reason there are mandatory data plans with PPC and why our service gets more expensive.

Exactly what I was thinking. Good work on screwing Sprint out of their money somehow though. The customer service rep you were talking to must've been retarded.
My wifi always works fine.
Greetings
I have bought a sim free galaxy s2 5 days back . I am in japan.
From day one I have been facing strange problem. If my 3g disconnects for some
Reason such as going into elevator or traveling in underground,
It doesn't come back. I have to reset my use data package network settings or
Turn on the flight mode and turn it of f again to get connection back.
My apn settings are as per my carrier has suggested.
Because of this issue the phone become almost useless while traveling
Or while going up and down in my office building.
I haven't rooted it yet. Is this firmware problem or hardware.
Please help

Some people including myself are having connection issues when gsm/wcdma auto mode is selected...phone is stable when gsm only is selected..after comparing with 2 other phones,i can confirm this behaviour dosent happen on their phone..and i have to sadly say something is wrong with my phone..why dont you do a little experiment..try selecting gsm only mode and see if your connection is stable..maybe you are having a defective phone like some of us here...untill today i cant figure out if its a hardware fault or some weird software glitch.

In japan currently wcdma is used. After disconnecting
I can only see upward arrow all the time until I reset data network.

Many people including me are having this exact same problem. I am suspecting the modem software, and hoping it will be fixed soon. But please note I also held hope for almost a year that GPS glitches in the first galaxy were fixable with software, and now we all now it wasn't.
I'm having the EXACT same problem! Out of nowhere my 3G connection is 'lost?' and I only see an upward green arrow.. i have to reboot to get this right.. but after a short while.. same problem again!
I live in The Netherlands... I wonder what the problem could be, but even better! THE SOLUTION!!
Resolved!!!!!!!!
@mmichaell I got a great news for you. I could resolve this buggy thing.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum so apologise in advance if this is a stupid question.
I recently bought a Sim Free S3. I haven't rooted it as i'm quite happy with the stock os for now. Everything had been working very smoothly on it. But since getting the over the air update for it my data signal randomly drops out or freezes. It seems to do it over WiFi too. It does this even though it shows a wifi connection or with the H+ visible. I've also noticed it cycle through H+ to 3G and back again.
Sometimes the signal works again on it's own and other times i have to switch the phone off and on aain.
I find it happens on tweakdeck the most but has also happened whilst browsing the net.
Do you think this could be linked to the update or could this just be a coincidence and there's an underlying hardware fault.
Let the new update run for a little bit...let it settle in
It might just be the spot u in and I doubt its the phone
Might be uodate but how long u been on the update?

Think the update came through on Tuesday.
Will give it a few more days to settle and see how it goes.
Thanks.
Still having an issue with this.
My internet worked all weekend then today started to fail on me again today.
The phone shows a HSPA connection but will not download any data.
I know it's not the network as my wife is on the same network and is having no issues.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Same problem
I am having the same problem here. I just bought SGS3 about 3 days ago and I started noticing data drop out yesterday. I wish someone could help me. I was hoping the problem to be solved by the time we get firmware update.
BTW, I am also having problem using usb tethering or wifi hotspot. After using usb tethering for about 10 minutes, it stops connecting although the phone still has data connection.
Is it hardware or software problem???
Thanks!!!
having the same issue after power saving goes on i lose h+ until god knows when
I switched to RCN the other day for Internet and today on wifi I noticed how slow the wifi is downloading an app in the market.. Speed test shows all is fine with All computers and phones on wifi.. Seems only play store/google apps are the only one having issues as downloading stuff on computers and files downloaded from amazon appstore and websites are fine.. Anyone ever encounter this.... Here im video recording my sister phone with the issue.. Anyone run into this before? Call rcn? Workaround?

I need your guys help. Everything I do on wifi on my phone downloads and works at full 25Mbps speeds... When download only from the Play Store I get 0.3Mbps (40kb/s) which is quite ridicilous and frustrating. RCN wont help me, Linksys wont help me and well I cant really get in touch with a exact Google employee that would be able to tell me exactly what to do other than blocekd ports 5228.
I want to know if anyone else has any clue why the Play Store would be limited in speed yet the rest of the phone is going at full speed. With Time Warner I had no issue, i switch to RCN and it begins yet they say everything is fine on their own end. Before I cancel them after 3 days service I need some more ideas/help in maybe theres something in router settings that can fix this or anything in general.
Hopefully you guys can help, especially since everyone he is a bit more knowledgeable than a customer rep. Customer service reps suck at trying to understand my issue!
How I solved the problem
I had a slow Play Store on WiFi but working fine on the mobile connection. I went to network WAN settings in my router and found a checkbox to use specific DNS Servers. I then looked up the DNS servers for my provider and location and plugged two of them into the DNS Fields. After this my play store loaded and downloaded everything very quickly. I think my router was using a different DNS server that didn't connect to the play store well. I don't know if this is the same as your situation but it is worth a try.

Since about a week, I'm having issues with my 4g. It used to be super reliable and fast, but there are moments now where it completely grinds to a halt and then picks up again few minutes later.
I've already checked with my provider but I have unlimited data, so it's not a throttling issue.
Is there any test or app I can use to see if there's a hardware issue? Any other suggestions to find out the issue?
Thanks!
What did your provider say? maybe they have some problems with the network. maybe sometimes there are too many people in one place. maybe you need to try another sim card. maybe its bad coverage.
Have you turned on/off the fast LTE Mode in Network Settings?
Try factory resetting your phone.
I had the issue with my provider. Later i found out that they had a special giveaway of 100gb data to all customers. I think thats what caused it although they didnt agree.
I couldn't get 4g at all around my house.
Since I updated to 128 I now get 4g intermittently at my home address whereas before not at all ?
