Try different Sim card, mybe yours is damaged.
If new SIM card is not recognized, well you have 2 options:
— hardware issues
— Persist partition is damage.
For persist you can search XDA forum for solution.
Good luck.

Hello everyone. I have photon 4G from USA and after full flashing ROM 2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5 and last OTA update is appear the problem with GSM/UMTS sim-card - phone is not detecting it after first manual reboot. Only after wipe data the sim-card is detecting but after reboot problem is repeating. What's wrong ?
The sim-card is new, on the another devices it is work.
My flashing order: wipe (all cash), flashing 2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5 via RSD_lite, wipe (all cash), OTA update, wipe (all cash).
Manual changing in the system after done: root AIO method, freezing all apps with "sprint" and "social" in the title.
Please give me advice or some help.
When you say the Photon isn't detecting your SIM card, what do you mean? It says "Insert SIM" when you boot up?
It doesn't

No, sim-card already inside (i don't eject it before flashing) and it working fine until the phone will be rebooted first.
What makes you say it isn't detecting the SIM card?

Icon in the status bar (sim card with exclamation mark), no signal and sim card does not ask for the unlock code as usual (PIN).
Update: Flash the last ota for RSD - problem still there is.
Have you tried inserting a different SIM? Or removing and then re-inserting the current SIM?

I've tried both. Tried 4 different sim. It works only with old sim with large field of contact (all new small). I don't understand why.
Update №1: No, another sim with big field of contact is not working too (Vodafone europe).
Update №2: The problem with all SIM cards.
Perhaps the official update (full ROM) contain some lock for non-sprint SIM ?
It is highly unlikely.
Perhaps it's a faulty SIM reader?

How can i check it ?
You'll have to bring it to a cellphone repair shop and have it tested...

It is difficult ... Motorola does not supply their own phones in Russia there is no authorized services (services may decline). But I will try.
I wiped the SIM reader through alcohol and SIM card was found. I do not know for how long.
Update: Not long - already end.
Did u bought it via sprint? Or from ebay? Are using sprint's sim card or different carrier?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

Via ebay (devices_now_inc seller). Without sprint SIM. I have only GSM/UMTS SIM (Russian and Chech).
The problem was desided (i hope). Problem was in the non-work SIM-lock dialog after reboot (perhaps because of the freeze some stock's app, I don't know), phone don't asked the pin-code automatically and SIM stay lock everytime. Just go to the phone menu / Settings / Location & security / Set up SIM card lock / Lock SIM card (make it unmark) - enter PIN-code (if you have) and forget about locked GSM/UMTS SIM on your phone. I hope it will be helpfull for somebody.
I have bought a new Xperia Ray ST18a from Telus (Canada). I have successfully unlocked it using a code, called my voice mail without a problem. Then I downloaded Sony's PC companion to verify if the phone's software was up to date. When the update was finish, I tried to make another call and noticed the "Emergency Calls only. No Sim Card" message.
I used the Sim card in my old phone and it worked. I used another Sim card in my Ray, the 'No Sim card Message' was still there.
I sent the phone to Sony for repair and came back with again the same problem.
Anybody have a clue what is wrong with the phone?
The SIM lock Menu it shows:
[x Network 10
]
[] Network subset 0
[] Service provider 0
[] Corporate 0
[] SIM 0
Phone software version: 1248-9545_4.0.1.A.0.283 Generic -user

S1 Boot version: 1241-3656-R9A029
ETS software Version: 1247-1301_7
Rooting Status: Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No
It's locked again
They have network locked your phone again. As for the SIM problem, maybe the phone/SIM contacts aren't clean enough. I don't think it's related to the network lock/unlock.

Thanks for the reply.
I have checked the contacts and even applied pressure on them when the phone was restarting. Same results.
How can you tell it's network locked again?
With which code did you unlock?
Does any other SIM card work?
According to the Network value, seems like the SIM-lock is still there...Is the phone branded?

Yes it's a branded phone.
I tried another SIM card from another cell phone and I'm still having the same message.
I bought an unlock code from a unlocking service from the internet.
Learned something yesterday!
Not all cell phones can prevent the insertion of the SIM card the wrong way!
On the Ray you can insert the card the wrong way and you will be able to install the battery and cover perfectly. I have re-inserted the SIM card in the right position and the "No SIM card" message disappeared and was able to unlock it with the same previous code. All is now fine.
I don't mind looking like a foul and hope this thread will help somebody else.
Thank you for trying to help.

You inserted the SIM card in the wrong position? How is that even possible?

Believe it or not
i9300 bought from newegg.com in october of 2012
Running 4.1.2 and then rooted
I have never flashed a mod on this phone
Intro: Was using the phone and reading articles. Pressed the home key to switch between windows but the screen froze. I depressed the power button until the phone rebooted again. Phone has rebooted but now a No SIM insert SIM card message is now visible.
I have tried:
restarting the phone: No sim message still appears
removing the sim card and reinserting sim card: no Sim message still appears
Placing a thin piece of paper between sim card holder and sim (in case metal surfaces were not touching properly) : no sim message still appear
replacing sim card with another sim card from a family member's phone : no sim message still appears.
My other options are formating the phone?
Sending phone in for repairs?
any other suggestions?
Please help i take really good care of my phone. First time anything like this has happened.
I have looked at other posts but they all have some customized mod or have remedied their situation with a procedure that did not work for me.
Backup data then factory reset.
jje
Update:
Factory reset phone via volume up+home+power key. Then selected factory reset
Phone reset but still "no sim insert sim card" error persists.
Update on sim being used:
Sim used on my phone is detected and usable on another family member's phone
Family member's sim will not work on my phone: "no sim insert sim card" error persists.
Anymore suggestions?
note:i'm leaving the country april 1st. Does anyone have idea on the time lapse of sending a phone in for repairs?
Check imei to see if it is corrupted
update:
dialed *#06#
successfully retrieved
IMEI
(15 digit number) / 01
Check with the box or phone sticker to make sure it hasn't corrupted to generic imei
IMEI identified on phone and IMEI retrieved from dialing *#06# are identical
Choice is to wipe phone and install stock rom or take to a service centre .
Possible hardware fault on the sim reader .

Might be worth getting a new SIM card

I've inserted current sim card into a family member's phone. Sim card is detected and functional.
I've replaced current sim card with a family member's sim card. "no sim insert sim card" message persists
Can we rule out software problem now?

Please confirm:
I have factory reset phone. What are you referring to by wipe?
After i successfully wipe phone
I will then proceed to reset binary
then re-install stock rom
I would do a backup then flash stock Rom again with Odin
Thanks to both of you for your concern and help
UPDATE
I am so embarassed
One thing you could do is see if any of the SIM slot pins are bent, you will need a needle/torch/magnifying glass, saw someone with similar issue recently that found his was caused by slightly bent pins, so worth a check
Embarassed
if i knew how to properly install the sim card on these new phones I wouldn't have a problem. Apparently Galaxy s3 has a locking mechanism that is confirmed from a clicking sound heard when the sim card is installed correctly. DOH!!

@Lazar81;40692244 , thanks for answer. The SIM works other mobile.
Hi there,
a friend of mine just got a used xperia p. He inserted his sim card and it worked.
After that he started the current software update. And here is the point. Right after the update no sim card is recognized any more - always says "please insert sim...".
Service menu says everything except sim is locked with 5 possible tries.
I just made a downgrade using flashtool which seemed to free the phone again according to service menu - but no sim card is detected.
An update using flashtool leads to the same problem (locked).
What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

Same problem with xperia U after wrongly installed update for unlocked bootloader while my phone doesn't have it unlocked.(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2410391)
When Sim is in: IMEI and baseband not recognized, also, no service.
with sim taken out: Emergency calls available, imei and baseband detected.
tried reflashing, downgrading, nothing helped.
did you find any fix?
please try with different sim and post if it works or not.
Tried with 3 different cards of different providers. No Solution yet - any idea?
