broke off one element on pcb - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I have broken off one element near the speaker assembly on my V30.
I made pictures from my second v30. whats that for an element?
Diode?

Looks like a diode, it might be for the charging circuit

Find Wallaby 's mobo or mainboard schema

Because my vibrate doesn't work and I don't know where is situated in the XDA...
Help me to give me a photo of the mother board or mainbord..
ThX.
If you remove the rear cover, and turn it over, as you look at it the vibrator motor is recessed into the side on the right lower part of the cover/case. Be careful if removing as it is easy to break the plastic tag.

[Q] Replaced Digitizer ... Did the LCD break or ?

I just preformed a digitizer replacement for the Thunderbolt. One of the ribbon cable Zero Insert Force partially chipped off. Can you tell me (from your personal experience and intuition) if the symptoms look like a broken LCD screen, or the bad connection from the ribbon cable to the main board?
I've heard bad things about trying to do the digitizer only without the LCD, but the partially mangled connector throws me off on what it might be. To be more specific, it looks like the ZIF release bar was weak and 1/2 of the bar broke off. The other half of the bar still 'clamps' down.
Thanks a ton!
That's really odd. I've only worked with cell phone repair for a company for 4 months but from that I might be able to help. First... A few questions... What did you use to melt the adhesive? If you did that improperly this "could" potentially happen so that would make it an LCD issue. It doesn't look like an LCD issue other then that unless the pins on the ribbon cable connector are screwed. Now for what I personally think it looks like... Did you forget to remove the screen protector from BOTH sides of the digitizer? Or did you not clean the LCD and digitizer in alcohol after handling them?
My advice is to take apart the phone again, and turn it on while holding the cable connector in place to rule that out.
Now I haven't repaired the thunderbolt yet so when you say you broke the connector, is it a hinge connection and you broke part of the hinge? Or a snap in connection and cracked it? If option "B" its your LCD without a doubt.
Edit, sorry I didn't read the end. So it is a hinge connection. As long as the entire clip is ALL the way in your fine. If part of it is up and won't stay down... A small amount of electrical tape never hurt.
Edit number 2, absolutely not a cracked screen. If you would have cracked it you would have known, and it would look a lot crazier.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA
Yeah the guy above knows a lot more than me but to me it looks like a bad connection.

Charging port failure - Over-voltage message - Repair and tips with video link.

There are a lot of messages on this subject and the cause is dirt and damp /humidity causing the tiny pcb tracks in the charging / usb port to corrode and short out. Some people manage to salvage the port by carefully cleaning the port with a toothbrush.
HOWEVER many ports will never work again even when cleaned. I suspect the short often kills a chip in the charging port circuit so even when clean it won't work again and the phone will give spurious error messages.
THE REASON I AM POSTING IS THAT JUST BUYING ANY OLD REPLACEMENT PORT ON EBAY WILL EXPOSE YOU TO THE RISK OF COUNTERFEIT PARTS.
I and a lot of other UK users have bought fake ports on ebay. Look for an assurance that it is a REAL SAMSUNG part.
The usual problem with the fake part is that you get hardly any 3g signal. The main phone antenna is on this USB board and although the fake part will cure the error message, you won't get coverage and certainly not as good as you used to get with the original part. My fake board was 25db down no bars instead of five.
I bought a better quality board for £8 from a UK ebayer called can888. It worked great and was marked REV2.3.
Here is a link to his part:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150912000314?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
One problem I had was that when you fit the part, be sure to remove the microphone grey rubber boot from the phone chassis and fit it to the tiny microphone part which dangles on about 5mm of ribbon cable. Post this little microphone into the slot on the boot and when snug, fit the board under the plastic lug at the left side (the side where the L shaped ribbon cable goes.
This youtube video shows how to completely strip and re-assemble the phone. The part concerning fitting this USB board is at 20 minutes into the video. Watch it and see what to do.

Obviously, you don't need to remove the mainboard as he has done. His video is a complete strip and reassembly. You will need to remove the small black screw about two inches up the leg of the main board that comes down the side of the battery compartment. The video is worth a watch anyway - the whole lot. Unlike a lot of vids on this,it is extremely clear, well filmed and well described.
Good luck
Tony
Great thread Wish we saw more of this stuff. Rated 5 stars/thanked.
1.looks like hes not uk based at all.
2.the pic and description says 2.2; not 2.3.
3.theres a thread in the general section with "reviews" of where and which one to get.
4.in that thread, theres even advice about only using half of a new board.
5.i would not use the seller in your link!.

[Q] Need help identifying an electronic part on the main PCB (circuit board)

I had the Rez apart today fixing the ribbon cable for the digitizer. Noticed this piece on the top was broken, like cracked in half. In the image I attached, it's on the left side circled in red just below the ear speaker contacts. (Pic is before the part broke). Phone still works, but digi has been messed up for a couple months. I had replaced the digi a year ago and now digi is messed up (I had been slapping the screen with my hand to get it to stop touching things by itself...ehhh) . Screen survived, but this part, not so much.
Not using it now since I have an S4, but just curious. I noticed in a RepairsUniverse teardown cid of the Rez, that exact part was missing on their PCB.

I believe that it where the speaker connects.
No, not the 2 contacts on the board for the speaker....I mean the cylindrical object next to the contacts.
Ok, does anyone know where I can find an internal circuit schematic for this phone?
Here is the part as it sits now. It appears to be a coil of some sort. Maybe an audio x-over for the earspeaker not sure without a schematic. Appears to have a casing and the coil inside not broke maybe.

Water Damage

Got the LG G5 Brand new, 4 days after it fell in the toilet. Got a quote for $600 repair, but only the backlight on the LCD didnt work, could see the screen with a flashlight pointed onto it.
Attached photos.
If only the backlight didn't work, it is probably the LCD screen that only doesn't work? If it was the mainboard, I would assume that other parts of the phone wouldn't work, not only the backlight. Meaning I should be able to replace the LCD + Digi without any problems? Can do the repair myself for $100USD
grab a fine tooth brush and brush the connector on the lcd and mobo with rubbing alcohol. let dry for a couple mins, then try the lcd again. my concern is the one component which seems to be missing solder at one end. you may be able to reflow the board but even if you got a hold of a new lcd its possible the issue with the backlight its on the mobo.

The missing connector that you see is the LCD Connection which is on the display itself, not on the Mobo. Im not sure why it would be missing, it did not look like that when I opened the phone to check it out.
And before the backlight went, it was flickering, so I am assuming it's the LCD itself, because IMO, if it was the mobo, it would just be gone, not fail over the course of a couple of hours.
No not the connector. The connector is there. I'm talking about a small component, that is missing solder on a side. I work with cell-phones and we get water damage devices all the time. Most of the time corrosion eats up solder and some components might need to be replaced. The connector doesn't seem all that bad on the mobo or lcd but like I said brush up both with alcohol and then give it another try. How long did you wait before you actually opened up the device to check it? Just by looking at the pictures looks like corrosion was building up for a while.
