Hello there,
I had rooted my phone before the official TWRP came for POCO with the support to decrypt encryption. I used to flash DFE then which disabled the encryption on my phone. I use the Official TWRP now which support decrypting the phone. I want to enable encryption again for my POCO F1 to make the files inaccessible in case my phone is lost/stolen. How do I enable encryption on my phone without formatting the data?
Edit: I just ran getprop ro.crypto.state in shell and it says encrypted. I am confused. If my device is encrypted then why does not TWRP ask me for a password to decrypt my phone when I boot into recovery? Please help.
It is encrypted with the default android key right now, thats why you got that message.
To encrypt with your private key, go to Developer options and Encrypt device using lockscreen password(at the bottom). This is in MIUI 11

Got it. Thanks! Will there be any issue if I enable it now? I am on stock miui 11.0.8.0 with bootloader unlocked and rooted with Magisk. I just don't want to lose any data.

Sorry can't help you there. I'm running locked bootloader with 11.0.8.0. It worked perfectly here without losing data but I have no idea about unlocked bootloader.
I guess you can just make a full backup and give it a try. Best of luck, let me know how it goes!
REFLASH the desigred vendor image and reboot you will be encrypted on your next boot
usually data will not be deleted but its always best to take backup

There is an option to enable encryption in the settings as mentioned by Nik2424 "To encrypt with your private key, go to Developer options and Encrypt device using lockscreen password(at the bottom). This is in MIUI 11"
I am attaching the screenshot of the same with this post for your reference. Can I enable this setting without losing data and root?

Im guessing u didnt have remote wipe setup? If he know anything about modding phones he maybe able to get past scanner with twrp. Other wise no hell only be able to wipe the phone. Make a police report asap and report it stolen to ur carrier they can sometimes block the imei and blacklist it.

I have ,but theres no internet ..plus he turned off the phone. He just needs to boot to twrp recovery then wipe data ,reboot then everything is back up but my contents will remain. If that's the case then fingerprint security or any other kind of security is useless...

Well thats the problem with custom recovery its a security flaw only way to be 100 percent is if the phone was encrypted then hed need a password for twrp.
Cuz if there was stock recovery his only option would be to wipe the whole phone not just data
Sorry to hear that buddy. Since a bad experience i always use Cerberus///
Go to android device manager web page and login with your current gmail id that actual login on your stolen phone you can wipe your phone remotely and see on map best of luck

I am not sure if I understand your question but...
I unlocked bootloader and the data was NOT erased.
My phone was not encrypted.
I hope it helps.
Is your device RN4(Mido)?? And U Unlocked after 7.0 or on 6.0.1?
Unlocking bootloader won't erase your data, unless your data partition is encrypted (iirc).

Maybe you just did not received this text, but you don't need it.
Just download the tool, login and try to unlock. Most likely it will work.

Hi,
sorry up front if this is a redunant question but I've locked my phone with FP and pin/pattern on MIUI. After switching to LOS the boot pattern is still active. Wiping /data with TWRP didn't help. How can I remove/delete it permenantly? Any hints/links? I couldn't find anything useful using the search though .

Theres a zip to remove lockscreen passwords, after you redo ur pattern and whatever, enter fingerprint and you need to reenable smart lock in trusted agents, because it won't show otherwise.
This is also the same thing just manually
Patch rom
Via
Orangfox or pitchblack recivery during flashing

Ok guys I managed to do this with TWRP by formatting/wiping everything. Was going to install another custom ROM anyway so I didn't mind the data loss.
Anyway thx for your help! :highfive:

Hello,
maybe someone would be able to help or explain. Running on 9.1.0.215 (but tried with 9.1.0.210 as well), after I try to root with Magisk (=flash patched recovery_ramdisk), my SMS stop working. I've tried more applications (default 'Messaging', Google 'Messages', also Facebook 'Messenger') but no chance, phone is not able to receive or create any SMS messages. However, everything else is working fine.
I'm pretty sure that it's caused by this activity, because when I flash back original RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img, SMS are back again.
Any ideas what could be wrong? I really like to use Magisk, but unfortunately, it's no go without SMS.
Thanks!
1. Flash stock recovery_ramdisk. (If you already flash magisk patched ramdisk). Stock recovery is needed to factory reset.
2. back up your data.
3. reboot to recovery. Perform factory reset
4. Power off device. Hold volume down, plug usb to boot to bootloader.
5. flash magisk patched recovery ramdisk
6. Reboot by holding power + volume up button.
7. Done

Thanks for hint!
Doing factory reset isn't exactly one's wish, but if there is no other choice I will definitely give it a try. Speaking of backup/restore of apps - can you please give me a hint, what could be the most comfortable way of doing that? I do not care about data - that is easy to backup/restore - but is there any simple way how to avoid manual re-installation of all apps after restore?
Thanks again!

Hi, just to confirm that I had exactly the same problem. To solve it, I had to reinstall the original recovery ramdisk.

When you go through the setup it should suggest it if you've backed up to drive. Otherwise use titanium backup. It saves the apks and works with root

But reinstall original recovery ramdisk means no root, right?
Did you succeed with rooting afterwards, e. g. with factory reset like suggested above?

I haven't tried it, sorry.
I ran into this problem on my honor 9 and in addition to a not working sms-app,the dialer app was broken aswell.
I did find this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/fix-messages-dialer-9-1-root-required-t3955964 and this fixed both issues.
adb shell
su
rm /data/user/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/*
rm /data/user/0/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/*
Go back to phone and wipe data of Phone and Messages
Go back to command prompt and:
reboot recovery

I unlocked my bootloader last year, when you could get the unlock code from their website. Unlocking your bootloader on Pie with one of those codes should still work.
I don't know, if other unlocking method like dc-unlocker or funkyhuawei will work. Sry

Thank youuuuuu this worked perfectly for me. I had to change the directory name from user to user_de, but once I did that, it was perfect And I didn't even lose my text messages
Oh no This solution worked, but after doing it, I no longer have access to 4G/LTE on my phone. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there a fix for this?
Hey guys, I would like to ask for advice.
My phone suddenly stuck at this screen:
Android Recovery
Xiaomi/laurel_sprout_eea/laurel_sprout
10/QKQ1.190910.002/V11.0.2.0.QFQEUXM
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power.
Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message, you may need to perform a factory data reset and erase all user data store on this device.
- Try again
- Factory data reset
Its very similar to an issue already discussed on this site: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/xiao-mi-a2-load-android-t3993067?nocache=1
However, in my case, i'm unable to access the Recovery menu. It results in Error screen: https://imgur.com/a/2rPDGQa
I would really appreciate some help as i have data inside my phone which i need. So if possible i would like to retain the data.
Thanks for your help!
If you have already unlocked bootloader, flash TWRP, make backup of all partitions and copy it to the PC. If you're still with locked bootloader, then I'm afraid you're out of luck. There is probably no way how to restore user data.
Also happened to me not long ago, interesting, did you do some system changes before that?

No, I don't think so. Although there might had been some kind of a system update few hours before.

I would try pulling the data via ADB (if you have it enabled) in stock recovery. I am not sure how it will behave with encryption, but it's worth a try. Boot into recovery on the phone, connect it to the PC and use this command on the PC:
"adb pull /storage/emulated/0"

In such case I'm afraid that you're out of luck as well (it probably wouldn't work anyway due to encryption).
