Hi, I have always used Xiaomi phones with AOSP custom rom, is it possible that there is not even a custom ROM for Reno 2? Is anyone experimenting? Is there a telegram group? Imho This Oppo would be great with an aosp rom. Thank you in advance
As far as i know it's not possible to unlock the bootloader. So it's not possible to do anything.
I've been investigating myself as i have a reno 3 on the way but there isn't any love for Oppo in the custom rom scene.
really pity, given the snapdragon processor I thought there were hopes, but I did not understand that it was not possible to unlock the bl
Reno 3, if I'm not mistaken, has no snapdragon, so it's obvious that you can't
I have the reno pro 5g with SD 765G so that's not the problem. In fact there are phones with custom rom support which doesn't have snapdragon processors.
As i understand snapdragon processors do make it easier for custom roms.
But the first thing you need is an unlocked bootloader and that parts lies with the manufacturer.
I'm not saying I'm 100% right but so far i haven't read anything about unlockable bootloaders with Oppo. ?

1) Some months ago, I followed the news about the Mi4c. People were complaining that Xiaomi won't let them unlock their phones. Are there no such problems with the RN3 pro?
2) Concerning the official firmware: I read that the phones come either with a Chinese or international firmware (or sometimes even bloated by retailers), and each has a hundred of version numbers. Are all versions possible to unlock? Or do I need a particular version to be able to root/unlock bootloader/flash a custom ROM?
3) Are there any differences between the 2/16 gig and the 3/32 gig version of the RN3pro apart from RAM/storage?
4) Is Xposed working fine on CM-based ROMs?

1. I spent around a month to get it officially unlocked, till then I unlocked unofficially in few mins. But if you unofficially unlock whenever you flash a rom you must be more conscious and read every step that's given by Developer or else you will end up bricking your device(don't worry there are solutions for very bricking scenario) . So if this is not a concern you can buy
2. Whatever the firmware phone may come with you can flash MIUI global firmware and unlock it from there.
3. Nope not that I know of.
4. Yes it's working.

1)as an unlock reason I pasted some chineese text found in the Internet and after 1 week I got my unlock code. So no problem there
2)Developer rom is recommended for that, but I think that the never versions of stable build also support unlocking. Anyway, it's easy to install developer rom with locked bootloader

1) If the phone is updated to the latest firmware (7.3.2 at the time of writting) then the bootloader unlocking process time will depend on how long it takes them to approve the permission for you (got my phone on Tuesday and unlocked it today).
2)Yes all are eligible, but you have to be on the latest one. Likely you will get with an outdated Chinese rom and will have to update via MIUI updater (or similar name of the official software). I also suggest looking for the phone from else where, like here in the EU (think ebay.ie had some cheap ones), since i had to pay an extra 50eur for taxes and expenses (am from Lithuania).
3) No idea, likely none. I got the 3gb version because it's more future proof and can upload 2 videos at the same time vie desktop version of facebook. Also the software itself uses about a gig of ram. Plus it's doesn't cost that much more and a gig of ram makes a difference.
4) No idea, wasn't a fan of xpossed before and am not planing to become one.

Yes it works. Make sure to use MIUI Xposed version. Google it.
I've had a search around but there doesn't seem to be clear answers on this one, unless I missed something.
I know kenzo has beta MIUI 8 but it seems LP-based. Are there any plans for MM? I'm guessing it would be beneficial for custom ROMs since radios/drivers would be MM-based.
Being a newbie when it comes to this device means I've been wary of switching from stock-based ROMs due to the radio issues. I'm guessing the custom MM ROMs rely on unofficially patched files that cause issues returning to stock or switching ROMs. If someone could enlighten me on this I'd be grateful.
Also, how well supported are features like the IR blaster or Qualcomm audio on most ROMs?
this is what is keeping me from buying a rn3p, if its not getting official miui with mm im off to a Mi max.
If you want fast updates of of android use nexus or motorola. Xiaomi has a very very bad track record of updating android versions.
Yes it is highly probable that redmi note 3 snapdragon will get mm update but dont expect android updates after it because only flagships like mi3 mi4 mi5 get assured updates for latest os rest only get assured miui updates

With too many Redmi 3 sub-models, it hard for me to getting "knowing the ropes".
I bought the Redmi Note 3 Pro 3GB 32GB Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 Hexa Core.
Read the "index-custom-roms" and there are a LOT of roms theres, hell knows what would suit me? (A clean /smouth/ android with few modes)

- What is the Rooting method that works for this sub-model? (after sending request to Xiaomi to unlock the BL)
- I want a clean rom without Chinese bloatware - running smoothly without lags.

After getting unlocking permission, you need to unlock BL through miunlock tool. Then, install twrp with fastboot adb. After that you get n number of roms as per your liking & preference. Cm13 by santosh is my favorite.

But I still getting confusing and I really need to someone will paste here the links to the right TWRP recovery filecause I can easily flash the wrong recovery file.
What is the tool for unlocking the BL of the: Note 3 Pro 3GB 32GB Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 Hexa Core
Also - for your opinion - what is the most clean smooth rom out there for this sub-model?

Here's the official twrp. Kenzo is device's codename so you don't get confused with other sub-models.
You will find unlock tool on the same website you applied for permission, Its the same for all variants.
I'm using CM13 based on official sources, it pretty smooth,
BTW, most ROMs for kenzo are based on official CM sources so you'll get almost similar experience on them.

There are a couple of CM/AOSP based roms but due to the mediatek chip, there isn't a massive amount of development. But you also have a choice between the China ROM/global ROM and EU weekly roms. MIUI is reasonably customisable by default which is good as well.

To answer my own question here, the bootloader was unlockable, and i have magisk root, but dont have the stomach/research for TWRP attempt yet
