Moto G Power speaker phone question - Moto G Power Questions & Answers

My previous phone was a moto G5+ which had excellent speaker phone audio. Not so with my new moto G Power phone. When in speaker phone mode the moto G Power audio comes out the bottom of the phone instead of the front top speaker. Is there any way to direct speaker phone audio to the top front speaker?? I would like all audio to be directed to the front top speaker if possible...not a fan of the "stereo" speaker(s) arrangement. I just need basic audio like the moto G5+ had...please advise..

Nope, on speaker phone mode only bottom speaker works, maybe cause it's the speaker was sounds louder.

is there a way to disable Dolby Sound and simply have monophonic audio out the top front speaker?? "Device Manager" perhaps??

I to found that while in a call the sound only came out of the bottom while not being able to get LTE with sprint/tello only 3-G this was the straw that broke the camel's back finding my self to have to turn the bottom of the phone and point it at me to hear good was it , returning this phone

Aria earpiece speaker issues - HELP!

OK, so my earpiece speaker quit working most of the time. I figured it was just a broken part, and I ordered another one. However, when the new one got here, I discovered that it required removing the screen to replace it, and also requires that tri-wing screwdriver that nobody has, so I put that job on the back burner.
Then I discovered that with the call in Speaker mode, I can hear just fine.
So, it appears the earpiece speaker is not actually broken, right? I can hear it when the phone is in speaker mode (although it's real loud... lowest volume is still louder than the loudest normal earpiece volume). So that speaker MUST be working, if I can hear it... but just not working when not in speaker mode.
In that case, does this indicate something software-fixable with the earpiece speaker?
And more on point: is there any way to force the phone to always or by default answer and make calls in speaker mode?
When the phone is in 'speaker phone' mode, the sound is coming out of the speaker on the BACK of the phone (next to the camera), not the earpiece speaker. So if you are hearing sound just fine from the speaker on the back of the phone, that would just confirm that the problem is in fact the earpiece speaker.
I've had this problem too with putting the speaker in. It took a bunch of tries to realize that you really need to make sure the speaker snaps up in there and remains tight when you put the phone back together, if it slips out a bit it wont work.
Also, it's kinda hard to figure out if you've put it in upside down, so try flipping it a couple times to see what works. Look at the dust marks for evidence of how it was originally in there.
Best of Luck!

Maybe on YOUR phone, but on MY phone, the sound is coming from BOTH the speaker on the back, AND the earpiece speaker.
I mean, I guess it is remotely possible that somehow the sound coming form the rear speaker manages to make its way to the cavity where the earpiece speaker is and sound perfect, crystal-clear, and just like the earpiece speaker should sound. I find it unlikely, but it's possible, I suppose. I don't know any way to tell.
I found an app that will put the phone in default-to-speakerphone mode (Car Mode). This works kind of ok, but the problem is that plugging in a headset doesn't override it. Of course the whole purpose of this app is to keep it from going into headset mode when you plug something into the headphone jack. I just need to have the phone simply turn on the "speakerphone" speaker when I answer or place calls in normal mode.

I agree that it's difficult to tell, but that must be what's happening. The two speakers are just half an inch apart and are only separated by a few internal components that do little to muffle sound. I don't think it's unusual that the sound would be clear when putting your ear to the front top of the phone. I definitely admit though that it's difficult to verify this -- I was trying to find an app that could play a sound directly to individual speakers one at a time but I couldn't find anything.
But, even if we assume that you're correct and the earpiece speaker works, that doesn't really leave you with many options. If it's a software issue, then you should do a Nandroid backup and then try doing a 100% clean install to see if the problem disappears or not. If it doesn't, then it must be a hardware issue. If the hardware issue isn't a matter of simply replacing the earpiece speaker, then it's not something you would be able to fix anyway.

I imagine replacing the earpiece speaker would probably fix it.
However, it's just too risky for me to have to remove the screen and digitizer in order to replace the speaker, when I have a workaround that is working.
Anyone know of a way to replace the speaker without removing the screen/digitizer?

[Q] Speaker noise

I noticed when pressing a button on this phone and put the speaker to your ear you can hear some noise through the speaker. Like a low hissing sound. Then after a second it stops until you press another button.
Also when playing a YouTube video or game and turn the volume all the way down you hear the same noise. Infact if you run a game and go back to your home screen the noise is there until you quit the app.
The noise can only be heard if you put your ear to the speaker so it's not a major issue I just found it strange and wondered if everyone's is the same?
I just checked and the noise does stop when going back to the home screen from a game. Yesterday when I tested it the noise was still going. Must have been a particular app.
Can somebody check this on the z2 to see if this is normal? Thanks
You have to put your ear to the speaker to hear it, its just a slight hissing sound.
It happens when pressing the home/back/multi tasking buttons or when typing on the keyboard. Basically whenever the phone makes a button press sound and the speakers become active to play the sound
its totaly normal for the hissing sound to exist however some speakers can output the sound alot more easier than others and some you cant hear it at all
its normal for it to be heard from Z2 Unless its very louder than it should be, it should be only noticed using headphone or putting your ear very close to the speaker

Thanks for verifying that Envious, i can only hear it when putting my ear to the speaker. While i am here i might as well get your thoughts on another issue lol There is a thread that's just been posted on here about the bottom speaker being louder then the top speaker. Is this a hardware issue or just the way the phone is designed. Its something i noticed the first day i got the phone.

i actualy dont know
its definatly hardware, i did ask sony Service centre about the issue and since my Z2 is going to be sent for repair ill see if they actualy fix the Bottom speaking being louder than the top one which i did say was a problem and that they will test
it doesnt seem to be an intentional feature since the phone has dual stereo speakers, its anoying listening to music when mostly the audio is one side
Yeah its something i notice when playing games or watching videos. I will try to get a replacement from the retailer and if that fails then i will send it into sony. The vibration sound is definitely too loud on my z2 and i'll get them to check the speaker. :good:

Top speaker output

Hello guys just today I have noticed that when some one call me that the sound from the top speaker is so low.
When I go to the ringtone and adjust the sound or choose a ringtone it plays well and loud but when is actually some one ringing just to low. Is any one having this issue?
Dont think is a hardware or else would do that all the time.

Huh? No. unless you turn on speaker phone, the TOP speaker is used for calls. The one you hold next to your ear.

No I'm talking about putting on the speaker phone
The top speaker is active during phone calls on loudspeaker (to add extra performance and volume to the speakerphone setting) as long as the front proximity sensor isn't triggered, as soon as the front proximity sensor detects a hand, face or "ear" it will disable the top speaker to protect the user from hearing damage as the amplified top speaker is significantly louder than the un-amplified earpieces in the previous models. What I personally find frustrating though is that the top speaker isn't used when the phone rings (even when the phone is laying on a table with the proximity sensor unobstructed), therefore the ringer volume is effectively almost half as loud as music/youtube playback.
UPDATE: I think it's the same with notification sounds as well...

Stereo RingTone issue

Hello.
When i choose ringtone i hear stereo speakers but when my phone ringing is working only bottom speaker and is not so loud. Please help !
Well got a post before that happens to me to. Also when on loud speaker is the same don't know why but looks like a software issue not hardware.
But can any confirm that s9 plus is ringing with stereo speakers. I ask support and answer been " This is normal, s9 plus is ring with only bottom speaker."
Today i update software and i try again.
When phone is in the deks ring with stereo speakers and when i get it in hand stop top speaker and stay only bottom.
I thing its ok now.
Hi. When the phone is on the table both of the speakers have sound during the ringing at the incoming call, but when I touch it the bottom speaker doesn't work. Will be corrected?
same issue on my 2 sam s9 plus,,,,,,,, way< samsung way ?
can confirm it's only using bottom speaker while ringing.
It's to protect people's ears. Imagine if a tech illiterate person picked up the phone and didn't realise they had My pressed "Answer" and put the earpiece to their ear while it's ringing on full volume. The speaker does put out some sound but it's not at a high volume and turns off completely when the proximity sensor is obstructed.

Confusing MIC issue

How many MICs are there in the V30? In speaker phone mode, the other party can not hear anything from my side.
Phone Call: MIC works
Video Recording: MIC works
Speaker Phone: Silence
If there are only two MICs, why would video recording work?

Have you installed custom ROM, installed any mods, etc? What firmware are you on? What variant?

The speaker phone issue has been around since I was on stock firmware (Android 7.0). I recently rooted the device but I am still on stock AT&T Oreo firmware.
It sounds like the one MIC that is used for speaker phone is broken. Where exactly is it located? Since I am rooted, is it possible to change the software to use the working MIC for speaker phone?

Main two mics are top and bottom of phone. The two tiny pinholes. For stereo recording on video.
For speaker phone I assume it uses the bottom mic?
The ear speaker actually turns into 3rd mic during high decibel environment (when you're obviously not using your ear speaker for telephone call).
The bottom MIC works when I am on a call. I know that MIC works because if I could mute it by cover the hole with my finger. My only issue is with speaker phone. Whichever MIC it uses is not working.

Then speaker phone mode must use top mic?
See if something is blocking it. Blow out with compressed air.
If that doesn't work, send off to LG for repair.
OK, It does make sense that the MIC on top is used when the speaker phone is on. The audio feedback would be horrible if the MIC near the speaker is used.
