no more worries about bricks - Realme 6 Questions & Answers

No Recovery from Hardbricks possible still: steps need to be taken now
Hello guys,
These days Development for custom ROMS, custom kernels and much more modding has peaked up in majority of devices from OEM, many developers find easy to work on device when all requirements is in ease of access and risk is down in testing.
But this is not a case for Realme still, realme was very well defamed due to no flashtool and fake promises on it related to its ETA. but after flashtool was released, it was just a mere 'back to stock rom' tool that only worked with unlock bootloader in the sense making it useless since we already could return to stock in different way. But still the hardships devs are facing is not gone with this. Devs in the long way or users and testers even went through harsh consequences like hardbrick which no further is having anything to Recover with.
Thereby this is now a major concern, we should now gather up and all request realme to provide EDL mode or meta mode in flashtool to recover from hard brick. This is a concern to be considered for healthy Development.
Please retweet this tweet on twitter everyone mentioning madhav Seth, realme india and Francis wang on your tweet.

[Q] Kernels - what is there to know about them ?

OK, so here's the thing... I'm kind of new in the Android acknowledgement, so I hope that here will be the place where I will get my answers. So here's what I know...
At first I didn't know that Android was Java-based, using a modified Linux kernel which we all know it's C-based (entirely). After a while, I found that there were different firmwares (ROMs) from the original ones, called Stock ones and also different kernels. After reading lots of info about how things actually are, I've decided to root my stock and then I moved to a custom MIUI for my SGSII with a JB implementation. At first it was great, but I had some issues which left me disappointed. Then I moved on to the official MIUI (China - English one). Things got better after I got used to it. The major bugs disappeared, only small ones left and a few crashes, but in time most of them got fixed. Later it crossed my mind, "Why are there so many different kernels and which is the best one for my phone or ROM to be precise?" Well this is where I need your help. I've read some topics that siyah kernel is probably the best kernel, which fits the MIUI rom. The pointing of concrete kernels isn't the kind of answer I was actually searching for. To be honest, I need answers to questions like:
How many kernels are there ?
Which ones are safe ? (I've read that there are badly written ones, so yeah, it needs to be asked)
Statistically, which is the best kernel and is it for the MIUI rom ?
How can I tell that it's suitable for the MIUI rom ? (Since I've read that not all are)
What are the risks of changing the kernel?
How can you test the kernel's behaviour, an app which makes statistics in time or some other methods ?
Believe me, as annoying this topic might seem, lots of us (the newbie users) are burning up the google servers, just to find these answers. I'm really hoping for a reply spam with answers (if possible , spare the trolling ones). Thanks for reading my annoying topic, anyway
Since most of the source is available, basically anyone can build their own kernel at home, so it is hard to tell how many kernels are there.
what isn`t available as open source are most of the OEM-specific drivers. Samsung, for one, doesn`t make most of the drivers' source publicly available, so kernel developers have to make a binary kernel around the binary drivers and literally pray their work well together.
Siyah is safe, but I prefer the stock kernel (I like the stock ROM... go figure). The stock kernel is the only one that is sure to work properly with all the hardware in the phone, because it is the only built from sources for the drivers as well (read my previous paragraph).
Which ones are safe (other than stock and Siyah): you gotta try them for yourself, read other users' remarks and feedbacks, and so on.
Risks:
Very low. As long as the bootloader is good, if the kernel totally malfunctions, just reboot in download mode and flash something else.
Some app may work very well in one kernel and bomb in another. It may crash in some kernels. It is very empyrical.
The problem is that custom kernels don't undergo the same type of quality testing as stock kernels. Developers have very limited resources to do that, and some developers are more interested in having a short time-to-market than a quality product (well, many large corporations act like that as well). At the end of the day we - power users - are the beta testing and quality assurance teams for the kernel developers.

[Bounty] Unlocked bootloader LG G2 (20€ 28/06)

Hi guys,
I'm not a Dev but I know there is a huge hype around G2 Modding.
Because of LG decision to do not unlock G2 LP bootloader (see this link), I decided to create this bounty topic for reliable people. :good:
We know we have Bump! and Loki, but is not the same of unlocked bootloader: with an unlocked bootloader we could be able to use without any problem MultiROM (XDA topic here) or port unisgned operating systems like Ubuntu for smartphones porting (Porting guide here, and XDA Topic here).
Pledges (26/06):
- Me, Maxximo88 - 20€ (conversion is made by Paypal)
Total (26/06): 20€ (damn this is the first day, lets people pledge!)
Once the Unlock bootloader procedure is completed and posted we will wait for the dev or devs to specify how he/they want the money sent.
Usually it is just a donation to their Paypal account or Bitcoin.
On rare occasions the dev will just say they want money donated to charity but that is rare and the dev should get paid for their hard work. I will follow up to make sure everyone pays.
Current Unlock procedure Progress:
Tag Developers so they are aware of this (If I missed any please let me know!).
Try to ask LG International

Just some beer, 20€, not so much but "in unity is strength!".
Maybe some Devs that could be interested are @dorimanx @CoudyFa @gtbluesky @tsunamical @somboons @autoprime @Angelic276 @bris31 @irevhard @Y.Heavenslaughter @Bx16 @zioriky @xdabbeb
You do realize the G2 is pretty much wide open? You can flash an LP bootloader then back to JB bootloader then back to LP bootloader, as long as you have the respective files? I don't have a d802 but I'd assume its similar to the d800.
Why do you think,it MUST unlock bootloader ?

There is a lot of modding around G2, but with an unlocked bootloader you are able to load unsigned OS, for example you can create a Port of Ubuntu for smartphone to LG G2. At the same time, with unlocked bootloader Multirom works better because it can load any kernel without any issue (today, you can use MultiROM on LG G2,but you can just boot two (or more) AOSP rom, or two (or more) LG Based rom, BUT (today) you cannot boot a stock and AOSP rom! (so mutirom today works only with AOSP or stock, not both of them)
Edit: to answer @somboons too.
It would just make less bricks for newbie peoples. For advanced users it dont make any diffrence.

X-posted from another thread:
It is far more worthwhile to fund a fully functioning unbricking tool than an unlocked bootloader. The G2 which has nearly 10 different variants gets bricked primarily because of confusion about "which ROM - which bootloader - which recovery - which modem" questions. I myself have been a victim of the dreaded QH USB 9008 brick and I had to pay 30$ to get it back to a receoverable state.
Lots of people get to states of "download mode not available", "not booting into recovery", etc and the usual solution is to short capacitors together , , etc.
I strongly propose that people move their committed funds from here to something like http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/bounty-hard-brick-recover-qualcomm-hs-t2914193/page3 and that will be a zillion times more helpful than unlocked bootloaders, etc. at this point.
Well it seems that the G2 is screwed again. The optimus g and also other low end lg devices have an unlocked bootloader. Lets just hope there will be onthe g2 or the g3 community an way to unlock the bootloader as the exploit will probably work on the other.

Ok, this is your point of view.
You are probably right.
But, I think both "bounty topics" are important.
I will add your bounty topic on top here.

Hope this too, my next device would be one really open and community drive, I don't know if Oneplus or others..I really hate modding issue due to Brand myopia..
Added LGE Devs email to first topic.

Root for a new build?

Hello everyone. I've updated my Xperia tablet Z4 lte to the 28.0.А,8,240. So does it means that I've lost the ability to make the root?((((( because the instruction of only one method for rooting says that it fits only for 28.0.A.7.24 or 28.0.A.7.27 builds.
?
get your version numbers straight
look up Androplus kernel here (read the whole thread)
give us some sources for
only one method for rooting

I know several methods, they all exchange the kernel on the boot partition and have a more or less tedious way to install SuperSU
Year, thank you for your answer. I see root is possible for our device, but I hesitate to do it as I don't know exactly which apps would stop working once and for all without drm keys and there are no good custom roms, even cyanogenmod. I wonder, this device was released ten months ago, and so little done.
It make me feel blue, as it kills the hope that something would change in the nearest feature((((((
If you need my help in testing new ways of root, some new roms, feel free to send a word to me, I would try to help as much as I can))))
How do you learn how to root a phone, I have no tech background

for some people it is just "can haz video asap!?"
If you venture into uncharted territory you needs lots of technical background and some experience.
What works on one device may work with a little modification on another.
So you read a lot. xdadevelopers is a good starting point. There are books on the subject. Look for "reverse engineering" or "system security". Good Linux knowledge is very useful.
The tools you need are all free and come with more documentation than you want to read with your Linux distro.

Why there is no custom rom?

First of all, before you can get mad at me because you think im requesting for a custom rom but im not. It's just i thought in the first place that Sony was more supportive of unlocking bootloader, rooting, things like that than Samsung because they(sammy) developed KNOX a long time ago to harden phone security and against to rooting.
Now i feel like it's sammy was the supportive one because comparing the custom rom development, i feel that in sony it is lesser.
So someone could explain what is the wall in custom rom development, is it the lack of sources of binary blobs or device drivers to get it working (yah because, mostly in our tab forum, the rom is sometimes not stable because of lack of binary blobs mking the rom not working camera, no sim card or even cannot detect radios). Or maybe that is the bootloader that sony programmed to doom every uncertified pieces of software installed on a device.
Just asking ✌

worth buying if i want aosp

I'm someone who always buys the phone to flash an aosp rom like PE or LOS. what is the development potential in this phone? is it worth buying if I dont want features but jsut a clean aosp experience without bugs?
no absolutely not
Bad but there's better devices around. Especially the redmi k20
The flash tool for realme is still unreleased and you have to take your phone to service centre in case something goes wrong
Lengthy process to unlock bootloader
Kernel sources out of date
Encrypted ROMS that makes devs difficult to obtain files.
Overall, this is a namesake developer friendly device.
