When I am playing a certain game (Dragalia Lost), I often notice performance issues when there are significant amounts of particles on screen. However, going into YouTube, starting a video, and allowing it to enter PIP mode and returning to Dragalia seems to alleviate a significant amount of stutter, returning it to a full 60-fps framerate. What does PIP force the phone to do that allows it to run smoother? Does it force the game to render things through a different means?

im running JB 4.1.1, not rooted, running in performances mode, I have constantly lag issues, this is my current Display setup:
In the end i noticed that i was getting less lag on higher settings:
Draw distance 100%
Screen Resolution 100%
Visual Effects High
Dynamic Shadows On
Frame Limiter: On
It seems that the more i tried to lower all settings at once or individually, the more lag i was getting or using default settings. Im sure this is not an issue with the Prime hardware.
Anyone has any suggestions?
This is a really great tablet, and I like it very much.
But one thing is really irritating:
When in portrait mode (for me, the standard mode of operation) the scrolling is not really smooth. One side lags a bit behind the other so that a "wobbly" effect results. This is especially noticeable when scrolling fast, not so much when scrolling slowly. And it is especially noticeable when scrolling larger amounts of text.
The phenomenon doesn't occur in landscape mode.
The tablet has a very strong GPU and CPU, so this doesn't fit into the high-end-ishness of the device, and since the screen doesn't have the very highest resolution, scrolling should not pose such problems!
Does anyone know something about the reasons?
Would it be possible to eliminate the problem with a better graphics driver?
Could it be possible (on a rooted device) to "tell" Android on this device that portrait mode is the standard orientation instead of landscape, so that the wobbling at least occurs in landscape but not in portrait??
I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem with certain games. Within the last couple weeks my tablet frame rate seems to have slowed down significantly while playing World of Warships. Initially gameplay will be fine but after a period of 10-15 minutes there’s a significant, noticeable decrease in FPS. I’m not sure if this is due to overheating or perhaps hardware beginning to fail. Samsung wants me to send it in for service but I thought I’d check w/ the hivemind to see if there was any tips or advice before having to do so. Here’s what I’ve already tried:
Uninstalling/reinstalling the game.
Clearing app cache.
Soft reboot.
Hard reboot.
Factory reset.
Trying w/ cover on/off.
None of these things has made any improvement. Kind of out of ideas at this point. After this starts happening it appears to impact the OS as well since touch responses and other sluggishness w/ the UI appear. Thoughts anyone?
Well out of curiosity I tried to run the game with the tablet plugged in and it doesn't seem to lag as bad. Leads me to believe it's hardware related.
More or less, I do have the same problem. I'm playing Call of Duty Mobile and the resolution is terrible and everything is pixelated. Is far away of the quality that I'm having on my S21 Ultra and is even worse than I had on my previous Tab 5e. I'm looking forward for any fixes for this problem.
i bought samsung s7 one week back, when i play pubg, resolution was too bad and frame rate drops. Tried everything not helping. So rooted my tab, installed xda's graphics driver for 865 (It is optimized for gaming), disabled game booster using service disabler. reduced framerate from 120hz to 60hz. (for pubg, i have edited user config file to play at 2k resolution). Now pubg is running very very smooth. But still i got multi touch issue when i use 4 fingers at a time. To fix that disabled all gestures, reduced full screen gesture sensitivity to low . It reduced touch issue but sometime i were getting touch problems, changed a big fire button to small and used trigger button to tap that. Now there is no touch issue at all. TAB is super smooth and no multi touch issue, u can check the game play here,(used in-built screen recoder).

can you please help me with xda 865 graphics driver?
Do you think it would be possible to achieve variable refresh rate of Xperia 1 mark 3 screen?
I mean display instead of always running in 120Hz or 60Hz would run in 120Hz when scrolling and even in 1Hz or 10Hz when nothing moving on screen (for example reading or watching a picture).
That would help with battery life and reduce the heat.
We could select to always run in 120Hz or in hybrid mode.
Do you think software can do this?
I think it's possible if someone work with software or fw.
the real question is if Sony will work on that (probably not) or if modding community will work on that when and if TWRP or other rom will support Xperia 1 III.
Maybe (but this is just a big speculation) with the new android release google will support variable refresh rate inside Android
Unless the screen can run at those refresh rates, sony can't do anything. if the hardware is not capable, software/firmware can't do anything. My take on this is if our xperia 1 III had vrr screens, sony wouldve already implemented it in their android to take advantage of it. so therefore, our screens most likely aren't vrr and therefore stuck at 60 or 120hz.
as for the 40hz in game mode, the screen still runs at 60hz as per developer settings show refresh rate, so it only reduces the fps of the game, not the refresh rate of the screen.
I think probably we will get the "ProMotion" feature on an update. I hope sony does it.
What is ProMotion feature?
Since this device was released tbh we didn't receive any new feature/function or changes to better for our phone.
Apart from reducing cpu's clock speed to reduce abnormal extreme heating there are either feature removals (like Music - disablement of downloading metadata from Internet) or just security patches... Literally nothing. I still hope for vivid mode for better colors and many updates to camera (4k 60fps in main camera, 21:9 picture s in main camera, night mode, better quality as I noticed some blur on the edges + pics are too soft). Also hoping for better battery utilisation and maybe bring back super stamina mode.
And bring back sony Album and other xperia iconic apps :/
Sony Album can be side loaded from APK Mirror. I loaded it but deleted it because I saw no benefit...YMMV. I believe there are other "Sony" apps available there also.
Indeed it is available and still working, but we do not know for how long it will work, especially after new system updates. Like android 12, then 13 etc
If you are disappointed in the screen dropping to 60hz whilst browsing and it not being buttery smooth try this:
open up the game enhance app and add in your browser app, next open up your browser and go to the game enhance settings, under game mode select custom and change the following settings: thermal limit to high, max screen refresh rate to 120 and touch response rate to high. If your screen goes too cold (blue) whilst browsing go to the display and sound setting click on image quality setting and and adjust the white balance slider on the bottom.
Browsing should become so much smoother and the screen should stop dropping to 60hz when device warms up.
