Do you think it would be possible to achieve variable refresh rate of Xperia 1 mark 3 screen?
I mean display instead of always running in 120Hz or 60Hz would run in 120Hz when scrolling and even in 1Hz or 10Hz when nothing moving on screen (for example reading or watching a picture).
That would help with battery life and reduce the heat.
We could select to always run in 120Hz or in hybrid mode.
Do you think software can do this?
I think it's possible if someone work with software or fw.
the real question is if Sony will work on that (probably not) or if modding community will work on that when and if TWRP or other rom will support Xperia 1 III.
Maybe (but this is just a big speculation) with the new android release google will support variable refresh rate inside Android
Unless the screen can run at those refresh rates, sony can't do anything. if the hardware is not capable, software/firmware can't do anything. My take on this is if our xperia 1 III had vrr screens, sony wouldve already implemented it in their android to take advantage of it. so therefore, our screens most likely aren't vrr and therefore stuck at 60 or 120hz.
as for the 40hz in game mode, the screen still runs at 60hz as per developer settings show refresh rate, so it only reduces the fps of the game, not the refresh rate of the screen.
I think probably we will get the "ProMotion" feature on an update. I hope sony does it.
What is ProMotion feature?
Since this device was released tbh we didn't receive any new feature/function or changes to better for our phone.
Apart from reducing cpu's clock speed to reduce abnormal extreme heating there are either feature removals (like Music - disablement of downloading metadata from Internet) or just security patches... Literally nothing. I still hope for vivid mode for better colors and many updates to camera (4k 60fps in main camera, 21:9 picture s in main camera, night mode, better quality as I noticed some blur on the edges + pics are too soft). Also hoping for better battery utilisation and maybe bring back super stamina mode.
And bring back sony Album and other xperia iconic apps :/
Sony Album can be side loaded from APK Mirror. I loaded it but deleted it because I saw no benefit...YMMV. I believe there are other "Sony" apps available there also.
Indeed it is available and still working, but we do not know for how long it will work, especially after new system updates. Like android 12, then 13 etc

Hello. First, I am sorry if I didnt get the right thread for this question. If I did i hope admin will move it to right thread, instead of removing it completely.
Second...
I was wondering is it possible that new and better cameras get even better functionality throught modding the cam application? If not in every HTC, then in new ones wich have enough power and abilities...
This is what I'm trying to say.
I own SonyEricsson K800i... I did complete work on it, new firmware, and inserted various patches for new options, adding more space for sms messages, more alarm options, different layout of home screen and so on, from better LCD display driver to amazing sound with modded equalizer. And then I found out about guy called Raiderski wich makes, better to say - remakes original camera driver, and adds various tweaks to the camera such as...
Balance: cyan - red
Balance: yellow - blue
Balance orange - light blue
CWB measuring: unlock - start - lock
Contrast: 1 - 30 - range
Color saturation: Neutral, Grayscale, 1 - 30
Focus: Infinity, Far, 1-30
EV compensation: from -2.0 to +2.0
Shutter Speed Fast: H SEM, H EM, from 1 - 6400 to 1 - 10
Shutter Speed Slow: SEM, EM, from 1/8 to 2sec
ISO sensitivity: 100, 125, 160, 200, 250, 320, 400, 500 - still very usable, 640, 800, 1000, 1250, 1600
Zoom: from 1x to 16x - digital only, stock SE comes with 8x
Autoexposure lock: Unlock - Lock
One feature it has - wich could be useful on new touchscreen phones: Instead of holding dedicated button for camera to focus and then shoot pic, and since Rezound doesnt have dedicated button as far as I know, and not having ability to have option of holding the button half pressed down, it could be added virtualy on the screen, since i dunno are touchsreen pressure sensitive, probbably not yet - it could be solved by 1-2 virtual buttons, like a unlocking the home screen - while holding the button, it focuses the pic OR previews the manual settings, and sliding it up or down or left or righ - shoots a pic. Or it could be simpler, 2 buttons, one for new autofocus/preview with ON/OFF state - and second for shooting the pic when taping it.
Why?
Imagine you want to preview your settings in realtime - before you want to shoot a pic. For night photos i choose SLOW SHUTTER SPEED to 3/5 and ISO 500 + zoom it to 3x and THEN hit dedicated button but only half way, and I see what the end result would look like.
This is what K800 has after modding it, and lowered JPEG compression ratio, and 30FPS recording and millions more stuff wich makes stock K800 and the rest phones look insignificant... Because now this K800 with 3mpx does better photos than 90% of the rest cellphones... I tried to make identical photo with Desire HD and K800... result was discusting when looking at pic wich Desire made, even small shake destroys the photo, and when holding it steady, again, doesnt make WOW effect while comparing the photos...
anyway, and so on and so on...
Basicly you get every option unlocked, you can have manual control over every aspect of the pic, every DSLR has this possibilities, and for years and years I use it in my old SE... So, why not make a mod for Rezound or some app wich will work on more HTC's wich have enough processor power and abilities? Big HD screen is here, its dualcore, 1gig of ram, it has great multimedia abilities, why not make it even better?
Is it possible to do or is it allready been done?
here's the "link" where I've been gathering info about this camera mod if someone wants to check, though it isnt great starting point if you want to learn what is it all about... link and news may be outdated because last time i checked, guy didnt have time to continue on developing the mod further:
Esato.com - Forum - Sony Ericsson - Software, Firmware and Drivers - Raider camera driver for K790, K800 and K810 (v6.6.5)
Well, hope someone can help you.

first, I think what you want is pretty cool, camera mods are always good to have.
second, I thin the reason you are getting negative responses is becuase of the tone of your post. This particular paragraph for instance..
'so why not make a mod...'
what do you mean, why not. We do not even have root yet, let alone custom apks and roms. Your tone suggests that nobody wants to do this and you are trying to convince the community to build this 'sweet camera mod.
Also, it is obvious by your post that you have not read anything on this forum in regards to development, if so you would have seen that we do not have any way to mod the phone currently and therefore your suggest is somewhat moot.
By looking at your overall writing style, I can assume English is not your native language and therefore the tone of your post is probably not the one you tried to get across. (the other option is that you are very young)
either way, welcome to the forums and to the rezound. my best suggestion for you is to continue to read the forums and follow the current development. When we get root and the ability to flash custom roms, perhaps your suggestion can be brought up again and will be better recieved.
Again, welcome and thank you for the awesome suggestion
I am working with a partner in developing an app that would go in between the apps and basically control it in order to show a uniform control of the pixels. Basically what we are trying to do is have pixel level control of the display regardless of the content on the phone.
My Questions are:
1. Does the smartphone developer API provide access to the frame buffer of the display, which can be modified for each frame that is displayed on the screen?
2. Does the smartphone have enough time to run a 2D filter on each frame before it gets displayed? Will the phone processor be fast enough that you can filter each image and still keep up with the output frame rate (e.g. 30 frames per second). Each calculation that will need to be calculated takes time for the processor to calculate, but how much? Can the phone do all of the calculations it will need to under 1/30 seconds AND keep up with normal app processing without affecting the overall frame rate. Much of this is based on the software that is developed to solve the problem, so the real question really isn't "Does the phone have enough real time," but rather " is the phone fast enough to handle a garden variety 2D convolution on top of everything it already does".
3. Will this level of control be achievable without root to be able to reach more people with unrooted devices or is this achievable only by root level permissions.
I do hope I am in the right area to post this very important question in the the development process. We need to get this sorted out first before we can begin programming.
All the help would be very much appreciated. Thanks xda!
So i just got the official update today and i just updated my poco f1 to 10.2.2.0 and here's my short review. Do read this if you wanna consider to update or not.
1. The new slow mo 960fps has flickering issues so its literally impossible to use. Or is it only me?
2. Theres a new option at the top screen "Cleaner - Security scan - Deep clean - Manage apps" in recent apps screen which imo, makes it look less minimalistic and ugly.
3. Battery? So far so good. Havent tested it in pubg yet or full day use yet so i cant give my full opinion yet. I'll update this after this 3 days.
4. Theres a new options in Notification & Status bar in settings>Show icons for incoming notifications. Which basically will show your notification icons on the left status bar then after 2 seconds it goes back to showing the clock which is dumb. Why dont they just give us the options to show notification icons permanently instead of clock.
5. The hide notch option in settings is still gone.
6. Theres a new Night mode in camera, but really, they dont work as well as pixel 3 night mode. When you take a pic using night mode in completely darkness, the pic result will be completely dark, unlike the pixel 3. So dont hope too much on the night mode on miui camera.
Thats all so far my review. Will udpate this thread if i found anything new. Please share your review as well.
Hello,
regarding (1): are you in sunlight or in artificial light?
960 fps is way higher than the power line frequency (50 Hz, 60 if you are in the US) so if you shot in artificial light you are basically getting flicker from your lamp.
In direct sunlight you should have no flickering at all.

Nope. Still no difference.
I also only notice flicker in artificial light. Moreover, the flicker is much less noticeable in the actual video than it is on the screen while recording.
I would like you to check something that drives me mad with my new Oppo Reno 2. In camera settings, I always set video settings in 1080p and 60 fps. Whenever I change to bokeh effect or wide angle for example, when I untick one of them, values for camera reset to 1080p 30 fps. It´s annoying changing this every time I want to make a video. Even if I do not change anything and shoot a video in 60 fps non ultra stabilization mode, and get out of the camera app, a time later when I enter again, values for camera are changed to 1080 30 fps again. I do not know the reason why or because it is something about performance or battery saving or not.
I just would like you to check if this happens. Change settings to 60 fps and change to wide angle or do not change anything and do whatever you want with your smartphone and after a while, don´t know how much, enter again and see if it changes. Much appeciate it.
EDIT. I must add that it seems that setting main camera to 48 mg also resets to default after a while. What´s this?
Haha. Happens to me either.
I was like "what the hell, didn't I switched to 60fps the other day?"
Let's just hope that Color OS 7 will fix this little issue.
Thanks a lot mate. Thanks a lot for answering. It's a really great great beautiful stylish smartphone and I'm glad I'm not the only one facing that bug. Anyway, I will always stick on 1080p 60 fps through ultra stabilization button every time I use the video because I think it's incredible the result, too much to miss it. That's the trick I use.
I'm new with this Oppo, only two days and I'm getting used to it. And one thing around my mind is the aspect ratio of photos. The gorgeous screen invites me to take photos in full screen mode as the difference in quality seems not to be enormous and this full screen makes people astonish when they see a photo just taken at the moment in all its splendor without any black bars at both sides.
But I know the quality is 4000x1800 in full screen mode and 4000x3000 in 4:3 aspect. Do you prefer taking photos in one or other aspect ratio? The screen is so good that I don't want to miss anything at all. And as we can't yet use our personal preferences in settings such as 48 megapixels mode, which I'll stick if its solved by an update, which are your preferences when taking photos according to these two aspect ratios? And thanks again. Writing from Spain here.
Well, i'm no expert at all, but i'd say that 48mpx mode is the only mod i would not advise, as there's always some loss in terms of color.
Using full-screen mode or default 4:3 is probably based on personal taste. You're losing much information (as the photo is much narrower) and it can be harder to put everything you want in the frame.
Though, it looks very good in the phone's gallery indeed.
I'd probably go for using full screen if you watch your photos only on your phone, but 4:3 for a more versatile use.
Mates, absolutely solved everything with new update to Color 7. Camera settings will remain as our personal preferences. More intuitive camera options. Now it's perfect.
About using one or other aspect ratio in photos, I mean in terms of quiality, I don´t know what to do. I do not want to loose quality using full screenmode if that means that using 4.3 aspect ratio implies a better quality. But what I can tell is that versatility is also present in full screen mode because if we see photos on tv, it aproaches to that aspect ratio and there´s more space taken by the picture on screen. Making a photo report or video report also takes advantage of this ratio because when we use the programs to edit photos and make a photo compilation, it adapts to that kind of format. So the only dude here is quality. Perhaps is the same in both modes.
So, I've tested this phone for a while now and saw that something was up with the refresh rate of the display. I use Nova Launcher and I could tell that it wasn't as smooth as their own launcher, or the system settings for example. In developer options I turned on the "show refresh rate" toggle and the values were weird, to say the least. When it is operating at 120Hz and everything is smooth, it shows the number 10, but when I go to Nova Launcher, or Reddit Sync for example it shows 60. All of this only happens on the Auto mode, but that is the point of the LTPO Display, so it can work its magic. So as it seems the software doesn't show correctly when its running in 120Hz mode. Also, I would very much like to have Apps that I deem worthy run in 120Hz mode too, not just the ones it chooses by itself.
Strange. My phone is working like it should. Shows 10 fps when the screen is not moving. Shows 120fps as I start moving. I also tested YouTube and videos show the correct fps. 30 fps and 60 fps depending on the video.

Mines exactly the same
well Imma guess that it's something related to me importing my old backup, cause that messed up the AOD too (doesn't matter what I do, it won't turn on)

Is there any app that can adjust this per app? I also use some apps that only run at 60hz

In principle, the level of brightness that you have on influences, manual brightness, I think that from 80-85% brightness it goes from 5 to 1 in refresh rate. I put a capture.
Definitely to do with brightness
At lowest brightness on auto refresh rate, it seems to never drop below 120hz except in certain apps like maps where it'll go to 60hz.
But if I put brightness at about 30%, it can drop to 10hz.
So I wonder what's more battery efficient 0% brightness at 120hz or 30% brightness at 10hz
When in a dark environment, and forced into the 120Hz mode, the LTPO panel’s power consumption isn’t all that different from an LTPS panel ~180mW power penalty that is present at all times, even on a black static screen, because of 120 Hz. That penalty comes from the measured power, with 640 mW and 465 mW in the respective 120 and 60Hz modes. Under a brighter ambient conditions, the panel showcases its technology advantages, and power consumption drops drastically. In the 120Hz mode but with the minimum refresh rate now in the regular '48 Hz' setting, the power figure drops from 640mW to 428mW, which is a massive 220mW drop.

The phone operating under dark conditions seems to disable the 'seamless' variable refresh rate display, that allows the phone to go into lower frequency modes, but not in all circumstances

When it comes to the difference in the battery runtimes between running the phone in a dark or a bright environment, there are somewhat small difference. In the 60Hz maximum refresh mode, VRR/LFD gains the phone an additional 4% of battery life. In the 120Hz mode, we see a larger 8.5% jump in runtime.

I am having this issue also. I get only 60Hz with Nova but using default launcher I get 120Hz and it is adaptive.
So far I setting entire device at 120Hz but would prefer if there was option to enable adaptive working with Nova

The problem is not that the GT2 PRO does not have an option to enable adaptive refresh rate with Nova, the problem is that Nova is not fully optimized with Android 12.

It seems to be incorrect. In nova Discord, Administrator said Nova work well with LTPO 2.0 screen. And as far as I can see, all launcher I tested don't work with LTPO on realme GT 2 pro except default launcher...
Use set edit and put peak_refresh rate to 1 Also i added user_refresh rate to 1 and min_refresh rate to 1. Now is working 120 & variable rate in all app.

It seem ok after reboot ! I don't know how you find this but good work. Thank you.
Edit : after few minutes nova go back to 60htz. System setting "peaking_refresh_rate" automatically go back to 60
Set your screen to 120 (High) in settings, and never change )
Will this just force 120hz or working LTPO for 3rd party apps?
Working ltpo, If You want only 120 enter same settings by adb.
Ok but what's exactly the point of your settings?
If I set 120hz always in settings, LTPO will also work and go down to 60-30-10hz if not touching the display
Lol, this is for apps with no 120hz support like camera, some browsers, other launchers, even some games
