What is a good idea for an app? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, thanks for taking your time to read this.
I'm taking a little 100h course on mobile app development with React Native, the professor has asked us to do an assignment which is think up a problem that could be fixed with an app and make a diagram of the idea for the app. I'm here thinking about tons and tons of things that could be done, but most of them already have been made. I'm starting to think I'm useless here, so I remembered that he told us to think this through really thoroughly, also for us to discuss with colleagues and or forums around the net. This is a forum I've been a part of for a while and I know there are a lot of enthusiasts and developers here, so here I am!
What do you guys think would be a good idea for an app solution?

To calculate the energy consumption ( kWh ) of a person in the course of his life.

tell us the main categories of the app and i'll suggest you!!!

Guys, I thank you both very much for replying and I apologize for not saying anything, but soon after this post a friend of mine gave me a brilliant idea that I'm currently working on: a project managing app focused on ecological research (which is my area of study).
As of now, I've still to start coding the app itself. Currently taking some courses in full-stack dev to better my understanding of the mechanisms and possibilities.
Anyway, I've been quite preoccupied and just hadn't ever come back here after that.
Best regards!

New Recognized Contributor in the Evo LTE Forums!

Hey guys! I don't want anyone to see this as fishing for compliments or thanks, so let's kill that idea first.
I was recently nominated and accepted as a Recognized Contributor here on xda, so I just wanted to kinda give you guys a formal and friendly introduction.

I've been an Android geek for nearly two years now, and have absorbed a lot of information in that time. While I may not be able to build my own rom or submit fixes on github, I do retain information very well and try to help out everywhere I can. I just want everyone to know that if you guys ever need help with something or just need a little guidance, feel free to ask me and I'll do the best I can to respond in a timely manner. I know the big world of root and custom roms can be a bit daunting at first, but that's why we help our newer members learn rather than gripe at them.
You guys can either post questions here or PM me, but I do ask that you try and figure it out on your own first. You'll learn a lot more that way. I promise, that's how I learned everything I know.
Devs, this goes for you too. If you need a last minute tester for something, I'm almost always available to help. I'm willing to switch roms on a dime and flash/push files to the phone. I'll be putting my GTalk ID on my profile soon, so you guys can reach me if need be.
I hope I can be as useful as possible to you guys! Happy rooting to you!

thanks brO!! its nice to see there still are some decent people who are here to help.. i respect that..
same here...good to see some more help for sure. But anyways ive just got one question here for ya and you may or may not be able to help me. ive tried to ask this in the forums and haven't got an answer so here it goes.
My phone gets warm up around the camera area almost immediately it seams like. it starts when i start using data such as scrolling around Facebook or downloading an app, etc...and was just wondering if that's normal or should i get a replacement? $590 bucks is a lot for a phone and i just want it right ya know.
Now the only reason i ask this is cuz my gnex does the same thing but it gets really hot after about 15 to 20 mins of using data.
thanks a lot for all your hard work and support for dummies like me that dont know anything lol...

[Q] Want to help devs translate apps[SWE]

Hello and good evening everyone.
I have received so much from these forums and the Android community in general. A while back I had a HTC DHD and contributed with bandwidth for ARHD(this is way back) as I want to give back to the community(donations aside ofc). Now I have a LG P990 and am trying to find a way to help out with something.
Recently I have been trying a lot of apps of all sorts. One thing I have noticed is the poor translations to swedish. It is sometimes even embarrassing to see how very well written apps and tools are just filled with down right badly translated text. Seeing how many Android users there are in Sweden I really think this is both strange and a bit sad.
I don't know if I' sticking my nose out here, but I want to help clean this up. Maybe I come off as arrogant in this post. That is not the intention here though. All I'm looking for is a way to try and figure out how to help out
Should I just start emailing the specific devs or is there a forum or anything where "translators" gather round? IRC channels maybe? Am I being stupid?

Yep, that's the best you can do. Actually, multi-language support isn't a difficult job, so I think the devs will be glad if you wish help them

Actually it seems pretty difficult to do since a majority of translations are less than perfect.
The problem with emailing devs is that they have no idea of who I am or what I am capable of. Did it a couple years back and the usual reply was "we have someone" or "no we don't need it".

[Q] Is it possible for a total beginner to develop this?

Hi guys,
(you can skip the blablabla to the fat letters )
it's been a while i'm registered and totally stunned of the work which the devs do @ this Forum. For years i think about the possibilities with coding stuff. But always thought it's to hard and take years.
But now with android i will give it a try. Because it would be awesome to write stuff by myself or solve problems with apps cause i understand the code or log output.
The best thing i invented was a Premium account Alarm for Rapidshare. It was just a tiny little script which checks for certain words/banner on the site and will popup the Firefox with an alarmfile i set. And i was proud that i managed that the process was in the background. Acessable through the taskbar... Easy as hell. You see i got no clue but understand a little bit of html. I can search the code of sites for certain stuff i want...No skill at all but reading...
My goal is it to archieve an app which can transform not tapatalk supportetd Forums in a better format. Because i couldn't find anything. And it's annoying for me...
Would it be possible? I don't care if it's not compatible to google play or anyone. I want this because i "need" it. And i guess it's fun for me to develop. If it becomes an high recomended app. Awesome but my goal is to get it to work and have fun.
For now i'm on the Hello World app...
Thank you for your patience.
Best regards,
Sam
First row is the Limit...
oh my god. This guy's such a noob
Well you got your foot in the door, but the HTML script on a web page is much different than linux code, this will take alot of researching and then alot more research and time.Im not a coder, but i am also learning and have been for a year now and i just barely scrapped the surface.Soo dont expect to develope an app by tomorrow.Expect alot of trial and error.
I guess it's possible but as mentioned above it takes time to learn to code from scratch. However there are a lot of good tutorials on the net which u can use to learn.

I applaud your goal and hope you can come up with something.
I have no idea what's involved.
Just wanted to mention, there is discussion of some ways to view sites in a more mobile-friendly manner (mostly GWT) here:

Good job, now just a few years and you're ready... Jokes aside, it seems to be very complicated to combine html and linux code so it might be a harsh experience for someone like you.

[INDEX] Looking for a developer?

[INDEX] Looking for a developer?
Recently, there have been a lot of threads which had the purpose to find developers for the thread starters' projects.
Additionally, you often see people posting their app ideas which is great for developers who are looking for new projects.
To reduce the amount of those threads and to have one place where developers can look for ideas/jobs, I created this thread in collaboration with @QuantumFoam.
Feel free to post your app ideas here or to post if you look for a developer to create an app. It does not matter whether it is a paid or a non-paid job.
Additionally, there will be a list of developers you can contact via PM if you want them to build an app for you.
If you are a developer, send me a PM with a link to your profile. I will add you to the list.
The list of devs:
QuantumFoam
ACdev
sak-venom1997
vijai2011
-=LT-United=- (games only)
EatHeat
sesan2007
coolbud012
jacksparao
Vlath

By the way: We have already got great lists for app testers, translators, designers and marketing experts.
To help decide who to choose, you can create a post here in which you give links to examples of your work. That is your possibility to show why you are the perfect person for the job.
Tips for those who want to post their ideas: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43930866 and the following post

It is not just wanting to be on the portal.
I did not suggest it yet.
Thanks. :good:
However, some ideas came from QuantumFoam. I planned something like this with GODZON a while ago and he wanted to set up a thread but he did not do that yet. So I did it.

If you have got another suggestion, you can post it, too. However, the majority of people who will see it here will be app developers.

Aosp rom devs ?

EDIT: Changed my mind.
If we allow asking for ROM devs, people will come and spam this thread. Nothing against you.

The only people who come looking to hire ROM and kernel developers are either those toting a low activity device or dev wannabes like Avjit

Yeah Definitely keep ROMs and apps separate please. XDA already has thousands of pages for ROMs and such, and we are getting too much ROM stuff running over in here already.
seeking developer in Perth, Australia
Hi all.
I'm seeking a developer in Perth, WA who I can meet with and discuss an app idea.
Money's on the table.
Anyone who's interested can pm me.

What is the best way to go about paying developers found on here? I just want to make sure I have all my hens lined up to prevent any complications. I am sure each person will be different, but is there a typical "norm," such as PayPal/Cashier's Check/Bitcoins/Etc?
I know some of the paying sources require a few hoops to jump through, so if there is an odd ball one that the majority use, I just want to make sure it is setup before I go looking for developers!
Thank you.

Seeing that XDA's donation method works through PayPal, and my personal experience notwithstanding, I'd say that's the way to go

You could also use gift cards (e.g. Amazon).
It is up to you.
I need an app...a utility I guess you would call it...definitely a groundbreaker
I have an app that I want created, it has a very specific function and will be very useful. It will require knowledge of roms, NV writing, and OTA programming. I have a very planned workflow, and a virtually limitless hardware supply for testing various handsets. This could potentially be a great earner, and I'm also prepared to throw some cash at the project to get someone interested. If any of you feel like you fit that bill, get in touch with me and let's get serious...this app is needed MONTHS AGO and will continue to be needed for a long time & could grow exponentially. If anyone is interested, let's talk & get in business.
Reverse Engineer Instapray app
Hello everyone,
since i don't have a large budget for the app i want , i would like someone to reverse engineer Instapray Android App and make 3-4 small changes in order to suit my needs.
If someone can do it please message PM me or by gmail: kasidisaueb gmail com
Thanks
The next one in the row :fingers-crossed:
Like the topic said, also I am looking for a developer or simply a programmer.
I would prefer someone who acts more as a partner, than someone recruited for money.
I would prefer someone who isn't totally interested in profit. If there is any, we share it 50:50. So I want someone who does it for fun (because I don't believe the revenue would be higher than a few bucks. But perhaps ...).
As an alternative, a student who is satisfied with a very low salary for a few hours could be recruited, but without participation on later revenues.
I will provide the idea, a mockup, a working concept, the graphics, the trade licence and a contract (as a protection for further revenues of two unfamiliar people).
Because I don't have much experience in app development and marketing I am looking for someone, as stated above, who wants to be a partner and isn't interested only in profit.
Perfect would be someone german.
The skill requirements are very low. Only some database knowledge. Perhaps some knowledge about plotting graphs and network synchronisation as a special feature for the app.
Interested? PM me :highfive:

[Q] How hard is it to become a developer?

Hello!
I'm currently studying in the last high school year and I'm thinking in going for Informatics and Computing Engineering at the College so most likely I'll be connected to this kind of development work...
Despite knowing some basic things of HTML and CSS and programming little programs in C or C++ I am still noob and don't really have knowledge to call myself a programmer but I'm interested and "self prompted" to learn more and more about this world and I believe some Android would be good for me.
Well, I am thinking in trying to learn alone in my free time with the objective to be able to build a custom rom for myself or something like that. I also want to make some apps... well, some Android things not only for myself but also to share here and help the others like I've been helped since ever. But... well I am realistic and I believe it isn't that easy and I need to take the right way, that's why I'm asking here for some advice and information... how did you developers learn what you learned? was it from the internet and practice at home or did you take any course? how much time did you need to learn the basics and start your experiments?
Thanks in advance!
Well its not for everyone.. I mean its not that easy. Ive been trying to pull of something myself and didnt succeed yet. But im gonna try till it succeeds. Just dont give up. There are plenty of guides around. Im sure youll figure it out!
