Android app alternative for SQL Developer and IntelliJ - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Questions & Answer

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ and I'm trying to replace my windows laptop with it.
Is there a good alternative to the Oracle SQL developer and IntelliJ on Android?
Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to do something similar, I don't have a replacement for Oracle SQL developer but for an IDE gitpod.io is brilliant. It's an online IDE built on Theia (basically the same as vscode). It spins up a full environment from a git repo and has build tools, db, etc. Here is an example Java + Spring project you can jump right into https://gitpod.io/#https://github.com/gitpod-io/spring-petclinic

I have a ThinkCentre Tiny that I use for Plex and as a media server. I have all my productivity apps loaded on it so I can RDP in to it when Android versions of apps won't cut it. Android Excel for example is maddening. MS RDP on Samsung's tablets is the next best thing to being there. .

I also set up a Remote Desktop connection to my Windows PC. With Wake on LAN I can start the PC from anywhere and then use RD Client on my tablet. That works perfect for some programs, where I don't have an Android version on the tablet.

[Think Tank] Running NZBGet on android via linux command line and webgui

NZBget is an open source usenet binary downloader, similar to sabnzbd or hellanzb, with one exception, it is written in C++. It also has a web interface.
The publication of a decent multi codec video player like vplayer alpha has given us the ability to play a lot of content, now nzbget would be a nice way to get this content like trailers and stuff directly onto our devices.
Nzbget can be cross compiled to run on an ARM architecture CPU.
My question is about the libs required for it to function:
1 Zlib
2 Libxml2
3 Openssl
4 Libsigc++
5 Libpar2
6 Curl
Are these available to run in the linux environment that is the foundation for our devices?
What would it take to get them running?
Would this even be remotely interesting to anyone other than myself?
Probably just you. There are ways to search for files, dropbox them, or other way to send them to the watched folder, download them on the computer, then view them remotely rather than through 3g.
I see downloading on the home connection far better than using 3g.
better sure, but not as convenient!
There have been times when I had nothing but my phone and no computer available. Something like this would have allowed me to get some media to watch.
Probably a very niche usage case though.
Hmmm... youtube comes to mind for trailers and such =/... anything else you could use a torrent remote and setup an FTP server with access to your download folder and secure it. If you really want NZB stuff... you could get it using an automated NZB retrieving program like hellanzb. Then do the same type of thing. You could then have media stored on your computer at home and DL what you want via FTP when you want it. Honestly, haven't used NZBs in a long time =/... torrents are so much... better. Just my opinion though.
im interrested in, if you have a working binary that run on android please give me.

Xendesktop 5 Express for Atrix 4G

Hello all,
This was a full week of work to make functional ( this setup is considered for ADVANCED users only )
What this is about is to use a stock atrix that comes standard with a Citrix receiver, what does the receiver do is that it is an interface to the Xendesktop virtual desktop deployment and desktop delivery to any device or pc, mac, Linux smartphone except android for now (in this mode the atrix in webtop is considered linux).
Main ingredients for this cooking sesson :
==> One powerful PC with at least 6GB ram and dual core processor and really fast hard drives.
==> LOTS of patience and googling
Software needed :
-Windows 2008 server with service pack 2 at the least
-Xendesktop 5 express ISO from www.citrix.com
-Your flavor of a Hyper Visor : Vmware ESXi 4 / Xenserver / Microsoft Hyper-V
-Your flavor of OS you would like to use on your Atrix : Win XP / Vista / 7
Outline of install steps ( I am not going to go to detail here as Google is your friend )
1- Install a flavor of hyper-visor on your pc
2- Install the windows 2008 server VM on the hyper-visor
3- Install Xendesktop on the windows 2008 server ( do not use quick deploy )
4- Add active directory role to your windows 2008 server ( make sure you have Dydns domain that points to your router which is going to be your domain name for the AD )
5- Install a flavor of your favorite Desktop OS on the hyper-visor
6- Install adobe air, flash, acrobat reader and all your favorite apps you need on the run on your flavor of desktop OS.
7- Add the desktop OS to the domain you created in AD
8- Log in as administrator on the desktop OS and making sure you are logged in thru the domain THEN install Xendesktop desktop agent and configure it (do not use quick deploy).
9- Configure your router OR install a VPN server on the Hyper-visor OR install Citrix access gateway on the hyper-visor and configure it with Xendesktop (BIG monstrous headache)
By now you should be ready to jump of the roof, well you should be able to check that :
1- the desktop OS is ready under xendesktop console
2- you did make a catalog in xendesktop and added the machine and user to that catalog and all is good as you have followed the docs for xendesktop
3- you are seeing the web site of your xendesktop server locally
4- you are able to launch windows on your atrix 4G locally and remotely via which ever method you used to tunnel in to your local network.
I know there is alot of details are out, so fire up your questions and i will try my best to answer them
dude you dont know how long i've been trying to get this running.
This is by far the best quick guide out there.
If you could provide some further details as to how do we bypass certain limitations and possibly explain what drawbacks we face by having this run on our pc full time.
This is the BARE minimum as i tricked xendesktop to be running on a domain controller instead of having a DC by itself and another 08 server for the xendesktop which would mean you would need a bigger cpu or two computers like i did as i don't have much horse power.
There is no limitations the only limitation is that xendesktop express is free for 10 users licenses, you MUST keep the PC humming 24/7 for it to be available to you anywhere you go whether you are on your Atrix 4G or on another pc or mac or linux box, i can say this is the true mobile desktop, it looks very very nice on my laptop dock for the atrix, no need to hack into linux for now till sogarth gets it squared away, but in general i had fun doing this project, i will re do it with the quick deploy on my recently acquired dell poweredge server with hot scsi drives
tell me where did you fail or stop at and what did you try ???
OH by the way the pc you use for this you forget you had it cuz after you are done cooking you leave it aside and dont run anyrhing else on it !! LOL

[Q] Is there Java for Android?

Yes. It is on every single Android device ever produced.
Java is the language used to write Android Apps.
see http://developer.android.com/index.html
and to quickly see the use of java see the tutorials at http://mobile.tutsplus.com/tutorials/android/learn-java/
Then why can't my browser run java scripts? Is it the browser I'm using (Boat)?
I ask because there is a web page I use at work that requires the IE Java plug-in but it will not run in my tablet. I do realize it may be a security thing on our network but the page loads and it allows me to log in (it always makes you log in on this web page). It renders some of the page but not all of it. It may not be a Java problem at all it's just behaves like IE does when the Java plug-in is not the latest version.
Thanks
Edit - I'm reading up on this as I am not a programmer but would like to know more about Android. Maybe someday an Android noob like me will know something.

What's the URL. I suspect it's not exactly the Java plug in. JavaScript (which is completely different from Java) works fine Boat and all other browsers.

That makes sense. Its an internal company URL. My company laptop died today and I'm using my Prime for work . It works great for email etc. Only this is not working. I'd ask my IT guys but they'll just brush me off since they don't support anything that is not authorized by them.

Maybe your work laptop has security certificates installed on it.

When Internet Explorer and other desktop browsers use the Java plugin, they are using the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provided by Oracle. The JRE is also known as the Java Virtual Machine. Android devices do not have the Oracle Java runtime. While most Android apps are written in Java, they are based on the Dalvik Virtual Machine, which is a mobile-specialized Java platform that runs Android apps, but not the web-based applets that are designed for desktop browsers. Due to Oracle's lawsuit against Google for allegedly using Java code without permission, it is unfortunately quite unlikely to see the JRE running on Android devices anytime soon. Besides, most of the web is slowly getting away from Java and Flash, and transitioning to HTML5.
So in short, Android does have Java, but just not the kind you're looking for in this particular case.
So is there a way to use it?
I tried to upload a bunch of pics to FB using the standard web page and it wouldn't pop up a window to access the file system.
I like the tablet/dock netbook concept a lot, but it's annoying to still need my laptop when trying to upload a bunch of pics.

The ultimate Office App

Does anyone of you use your Transformer Pad for writing documents? I would do so if I would find a good office app. But unfortionally I can't find one. When I'm at home I use CloudOn, because it's nearly the same as Microsoft Office and does not mess up my documents. The problem is that I want to use my Transformer for writing when I'm in school. But I don't have a wifi connection there. Therefore I search for the ultimate Office App which works without internet and does not mess up my Office 2010 documents. Any recommendations?
Hi, have you tried Polaris Office? It does word, excel & powerpoint
here is a thread with download link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099584
Cloud on? Is it for Linux?
-------------------------------------
Sent via something that can't finish it's sentan...
I tried it out but it does not seem to install. Can't flash the. zip. Maybe there is a problem with the other version which comes provided with CleanRom 3.1? Is there also version 4.0 out there for our Pad?
Edit: OK, same problem as with any other app i`ve tried. Polaris does not seem to stick to my custom font layout. I like to keep my text very compact which seems to be the problem. If I open up my documents with Polaris they are larger (one or more pages longer). So I need an office alternative which is as close to Microsoft Office as possible.
Cloud On is a cloud based office solution but does only work with cloud services (eg. Drop box,Google drive, box, etc.) I highly recommend it when you need to work at home
Is there an alternative to Polaris?
Ok tried to install lastest Polaris Office v4.0.3212.13, would not install. then tried v4.0.3210.07, it installed but kepts force closing.
I running Energy Rom by NRGZ28.
The only alternative I have tried is Kingsoft Office from the play store, seems pretty good and is free.
Kingsoft Office doesn't do the job for me either :/ No advanced settings for fonts or any other fonts. I also tried OfficeSuite Pro. But same result here. All of the apps are not capable to align my text correctly. I think I'll need to wait for the official Microsoft Office or the new Polaris.
Btw. I found my problem. It seems like all the apps don't support the settings of Office 2010 which I have currently in use. However, if I save my files in the older format (Word 97 - 2003) all apps seem to work just fine. But I go with Polaris for now Thanks again ;D:fingers-crossed:
EDIT: I was WRONG! All of them screw up... I just didn't notice that when I either save it in the new or the old format my text is simply wrong. My testdocument is 6 Pages long. But all of the apps align it to 7.
Any ideas on how to fix that? Maybe the different resolutions of my desktop and the tablet are the problem...
Mabye Microsoft Office on your tab
Hi, just thought of a way to maybe get MS Office running on android tab.
There are Linux Installer apps on the play store which allow you to install linux distro's on android, you could then install MS Office on linux using something like 'playonlinux' or 'wine'. Not sure if this would work but will give it a go over the weekend and let you know. If anyone has already tried this can you tell how it went.

AW: The ultimate Office App
The best office suite for Android is made by Softmaker. The word processor is called Ofice2012:textmaker and is a port from the Softmaker office for Windows and Linux. There is also an app for spreadsheets and a presentation app. In comparison to polarised office you get a well designed office suite with good import filters for MS docx or xlsx files.
For a comparison between different android office apps go to Softmaker website. We (can't paste URL)
It was well reviewed by the German Computer magazine C't.
However, I this quality comes with a price tag. You pay around €28 for the whole package. Money well invested
Cheers

Sandbox Suggestions Please

On my Windoze desktop machines I sandbox my browser in a VMware virtual machine. Which is set to start-up from a clean disk image each time I start it. This means that I'm assured that EVERYTHING I pick up during surfing sessions is deleted when I shut down (viruses, cookies, malware payloads, history, etc). Since VMware virtual machines can have their own IP on the network I can also turn off internet access to the real machine for further security.
So is there a way to do much the same on an Android tablet? Anything close? Samsung Note Pro 12.2 so I have some ram and a decent processor.
In my research I saw that VMware came out with a virtual machine product for Android last spring. And discontinued it this spring. I'm guessing Google, Samsung, et. al. had something to do with that. But so far that is all I have found. Would like some kind of open source solution.
Thanks for your suggestions.
