Waiting on a Redmi 3S turning up, not finding much in the way of ROMs for it?
I'm wondering too. I am looking to buy a phone and my budget gets me to a Redmi 3S. It sounds amazing on paper, it's just the phone I'm looking for, but I don't know if it has any community except the pretty fishy one on the miui forums. And no global nothing. CM support is really low, but I guess I always buy phones that were released a year before and they are in their prime of the ROM support. This one has 2 threads on XDA with no replies. And the miui forums are filled with "Thanks" comments which look like filler accounts.
I really don't know if I should go for the 3 pro or 3s pro, or just get the bigger Redmi note 3. But I don't like big phones.

if you want more dev support+heavy gaming then redmi note 3 is the way to go.if you want to use it just normally and u want devs support thn i guess redmi 3 pro is a better choice as it has better support than redmi 3s for now.
Just ordered a Redmi 3s
as a heads up, theres no bootloader unlocking as of yet (except risky unofficial ones) no root without unlocked bootloader.
i just got the 3s and i just bricked it
Well, the support for 3s is quite low at the moment. Not surprising. Two reasons - Most of the Xiaomi fans already got RN3, and second, it's just released now, wait for atleast a few months. BTW, I was going to order it, but then I heard rumors about a Redmi 4 releasing this fall with SD625 SoC & 1080p screen. So, if you want better phone with more development support, then wait for Redmi 4. But I guess, they'll release toned-down version of it in India to cut down the price. The worst case scenario for India users might be that they'll release R4 with SD435.

Well, Xiaomi wouldn't like to disappoint their fans. There's isn't any reason for them to drop SD card support. But, leaks are saying there's only 3GB 32GB variant of Redmi 4, so I wouldn't be surprised if they drop SD card support. Seriously, only a few people use SD card on 32GB phones, but all kinds of hardware supports are welcome.
I was in the same boat as you but then I cancelled my 3S Prime and ordered the Note 3. The ROMs that are on MiUi forums are very shady. Also the several variants with the same name (albeit different code names) cause a lot of confusion. The Redmi 3S Prime is a good phone but if you want XDA support, I recommend you get the Redmi Note 3.
I'm planning to buy either the Redmi Note 3 or the Le2 and can't decide which is better.
I'll list the pro's and cons for each. I hop you guys can provide a sound argument for which is better. Both of these phones are priced the same at 11,999 INR. And both of them have very similar specs. Otherwise both of them have 5.5" 1080p displays, 16MP rear facing camera, all the same sensors.
LeEco Le2
1. Snapdragon 652 (4 a72 cores, 4 a53 cores)
2. USB type C port for CDLA audio (no 3.5mm headphone jack)
3. Thinner and Lighter than Redmi Note 3 (7.5mm and 154g)
4. Quick Charge 2.0
5. 3000 MaH battery.
6. No SD card support.
7. 8MP front facing camera
8. No custom ROM support (yet)
9. Fingerprint sensor detects at 0.150 secs
Redmi Note 3
1. Snapdragon 650 (2 a72 cores, 4 a53 cores)
2. 8.7mm thin and 164g
3. Quick Charge 1.0
4. 4000 MaH battery
5. SD card supported
6. 5MP front facing camera
7. Custom ROMs are avialable
8. Fingerprint sensor detects at 0.300 secs
So it seems to be a matter of wanting a thinner, lighter phone with updated specs in the case of Le2 Vs more battery and expandable storage but older specs.
I plan to flash custom roms soon, but I would like to know, if it's getting the latest specs that's better than having more usability(with extra battery life and storage capacity).
Please help. Any advice is welcome.
P.S I've owned a Moto E 1st gen, been on cm ever since it came out.
It all comes down to your opinion and preference, le2 doesn't have sd card support, usb type c headphone jack,it has good scope for custom ROMs as it has snapdragon processor but I came here to know if le2 has any active development but there is no seperate forum or thread for it yet it may be in the near future but redmi note 3 has a specific section already because it launched before le2
You can buy le2 if you feel 32 gb is enough and you will be content with it, if you are like me and will download large files like movies, songs of high definition play many games then you shold buy the redmi note 3 with 128 GB memory card support because 32gb just wouldn't be enough, I saw some place saying that redmi note 3 can even support up to 256 GB maybe don't remember where I saw it though
In performance le2 would have an upper edge but just a tad bit. But the camera lens of le2 looked ugly to me and i saw the comparison of both the phones cameras and the le2s camera was a BIG no-no for me because it captured day light pictures of flowers as if they were in low light, I was having the same doubt about which phone to buy so I researched a little bit for the camera review and found redmi note 3 to better just look it up in Google, bcoz I'm unable to post link here
Just hang around for a bit and see what goes on in xda regarding the development
The link to redmi note3 forum-
forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3
There is development for both snapdragon and mediatek look out for available ROMs for snapdragon . And something called le2 pro with better specs than le2 is releasing soon just look it up.
And lol I am using the moto e 1st gen too on stock android and i typed all this on my phone
Both of those will be hard to get any real development as developers don't buy either of those devices.
So don't use development as any real way to determine if you are gonna get the device.
I've decided to go for the Redmi Note 3. But it doesn't seem to be in stock for now (Flash sales). Figured the Le2 wouldn't give me enough screen on time, I travel a lot, and GPS and 4g would kill that 3000Mah battery in two to three hours flat. (Lol, especially with Pokemon Go coming out and all). And I'm using the Moto e 1st gen too, cm13 . Camera doesn't have to be great. Come on... coming from moto e, you should know that, that phone didn't even have auto focus, leave alone low light performance XD. So I'm just looking for the best price to performance ratio phone for my budget.
And I was looking from more of a hardware perspective to buy a phone, rather than development. Thanks for replying on this post. :good:
Choose the more experienced one
LeTv is actually a pretty new phone developer, they have just started the phone marketing recently. Their TV is actually really nice. But Xiaomi has been doing smart phone for a few years already. Recommend you to get Redmi, because it might do better in a time base.

I ordered it a couple of days back, only snapdeal could deliver to my address. Should be here before 18th. This would be the first time I would be trying anything other than stock android (other than HTC sense from cupcake xD)

Don't forget to video record when your opening the package incase of fraud you can have it as proof, and if taken as cash on delivery call the courier person in and make somebody give him a glass of water while you open the package and then give him the cash, you have to be careful shopping online from flipkart and amazon, and extra careful shopping on snapdeal. And I like stock Android my moto e is almost stock android, but miui is much better and with the 3 GB ram its going to be super smooth.BTW my phone is arriving on Wednesday, can't wait XD
I already paid with credit card. Thing is, the courier is India post. But fortunately the post office is nearby and I know the delivery guy. So hopefully there shouldn't be any problem.
And thanks foe the video recording suggestion. I'll do that just in case.
But another problem has come up. Apparently it's difficult to unlock the bootloader for xiaomi devices now.
Hi all,
I have 2 Yotaphones 2 (one for private use, one company). Great devises, especially the business use. Now my son's birthday is coming up and he wants a Yotaphone, too (no iPhone! . Does anyone know what happened to the yotaphone 3? It was announced to be released in Q1 this year in cooperation with ZTE to increase availability and reduce price. Since then (Q3 2015), nothing has happened.
Does anyone know more?
Cheers

Based on a few Russian articles I found, it would seem that their new Chinese overlords were not willing to take the risk launching Yotaphone 3 during the original Summer of 2016 launch window. And now that the window has closed, so they have to renew the device specs to match the market. The new estimate would be Summer of 2017 earliest.
Source: http://izvestia.ru/news/632694 (you can get the main idea with Google Translate)
It was confirmed by yota that it's in development. Probably it will be available this year (2017)
The Instagram account of Yota Devices unexpectedly displayed a new post in early march mentioning the 3rd generation of their device :
https://www.slashgear.com/the-yotaphone-3-is-still-coming-or-so-it-seems-06477241/
That's all we get since the time they abruptly went in silent service.
A five inch colour e-ink screen would truly be aweinspiring
With latest news it seems that Chinese stakeholders don't want to put their money for the launching of YotaPhone 3 as of now (which russians have already developed-designed). Hence, postponing its launch obliges YotaDevices to re-do from scratch the designed YotaPhone 3, because hardware components become old rapidly.
Yesterday I saw a YD206 for 95€ on AliExpress and I think it's worth it, expecially with the MM update coming out.
Do you guys know what the teaser on the website is about? Could it really be the Yotaphone 3? I honestly didn't expect that any more.

There have been a number of rumors around other dual screen phones, none of which I've seen on the market yet. At some point even the Xiami Mi4 was supposed to come with dual screen...
at youtube - hisense a2 at ces 2017
seeing their EPD, got ghosting and black is still "gray". maybe later they will improve it.
for me compare to yotaphone 2 more better but until MM update.. more ghosting..
but for yotaphone 3 teaser image, shape nearly same with hisense a2..
Ok, so the design of yota3 is kind of iphonenish...

Just got the Yotaphone 3 as a gift. Has dual SIM slots (2nd SIM doubles as a TF card).
I can install Google package from it's appstore BUT can't get contact to sync with Google; Google contact apps doesn't work properly.
The 2nd screen only works with Kindle China version only (can log in with US account).
Overall an intriguing phone but not practical for me unless there's a non-China version.
I just received the hisense a2 from China here in United States. And. It seems to work quite well on att with the option to mirror full android on eink. If you cannot mirror the main screen on the eink screen in yp3 this is a mistake in the software design. Yp2 offered full android on the eink side In their latest russian firmware.
I have just bought the Yotaphone 3, however I can't mirror the main screen onto the eink screen of my Yota 3. I have the Yotaphone 2, so would there by a way to port the Yotahub/Yotacover/Yotapanel apps from the 2 to the 3? Also, all the instructions are in Chinese which is slightly annoying. Do you think the mirroring function would be added later by an update? Thanks
Possible YP3 Changes.
Depends on if the same developers (as YP2) are responsible for the updates in YP3 (HK).
In YP2, they prioritized RU versions (not the HK version). But some of the firmware changes/useful addons over time were significant with EU/HK and especially RU.
With the new CN/RU partnership, who knows. I am waiting until someone (preferably in English) demonstrates a good software update with YP3 (and a decrease in price) before pulling the trigger.
Hello i live in Greece and i was interested in purchasing a new phone.
In Greece the only model that is available is the Helio Deca core model and i will be going for the 3 GB Ram 64 Rom version.
I came across a deal and i am seriously considering to purchase the device but i have some questions first
1 ) is the phone rootable?
2) will custom roms such as cyanogen mod and such be available for the device ?
I cant explain what i need from a phone well enough but the case is that i need a smartphone that its software can be altered easily and there are many roms available for it without having to pay the premium for a flagship device.
I do not care about Camera quality only for the core hardware (cpu ram gpu and a good DAC)
Sorry for the confusing explanation if you have any questions i will be more than happy to explain what i mean.
Thank you in advance.

Its really going to be a toss up between this and the Redmi Note 3 Pro. I have the Note 4 and really like it, I can confirm it is fully rootable and you can install TWRP custom recovery also.
There are some custom roms available, although nowhere near as many as the Note 3/Pro. You will see an AOSP rom by cofface which was only released a couple of weeks ago but many have been using as a daily driver (see link below to rom dev thread). There is also a cyanogen rom which is an alpha but again is still a work in progress. You can also get custom/modified versions of the stock MIUI ROM, personally I find MIUI really good (smooth and lots of customisation options), although if you're a stock android enthusiast it might not be for you. And I've used just about all versions of android over the years, be it nexus/CM mod, AOSP/htc sense/touchwiz.
I'd say if your into modding and ROMs, then the Note 3 Pro would be a great option. The specs are pretty similar and the Note 3 seems to have better battery life, which could be the Snapdragon 650, which seems to be a great processor in terms of power and efficiency. As for audio, I'm loving the audio output via the 3.5mm jack, I actually find it better than the Galaxy S7 that I had, which sounded pretty cheap to be honest and was a disappointment for me (probably the only one on the S7) . I havent tried the Note 3 so cant really comment on it, but Im certain there are more than a few audio mods to play around with and if you check the Note 3 forum, you should get an idea of user opinions.
My reason for choosing the Note 4 over the Note 3 was the Note 4's build quality. The all metal body looks and feels really nice, but if thats not really a big deal for you, the Note 3 is supposed to be very solid also, as it does have a metal back (but plastic at the top and bottom for radio signal). It will also be better for glass screen protectors due to the flat panel of glass, where as the Note 4 has 2.5 curved edges which makes screen protectors a bit more hit and miss in terms of fit.

Thank you very much for your answer and it was amazing that you have the device and that you judged it fairly (in my opinion).
But i learned something that may change my mind ...
For 50 eur more i could get the Samsung Galaxy A5 . And still i do not know what should i do.
I told a friend and he told me that even if the Galaxy phone had even lower specs he would go with it just because its a more reliable brand . ( I dont think this is a very good argument but still using big brand phones like LG Samsung etc and paying more for them "pays back" in a way in support from developers and official support from the company)
Whats your opinion ?

I understand what he is saying, but in terms of support Xiaomi arent actually that bad. The Note 4 is currently on Android 6.0, but there are continual security updates, like most flagships these days. Its not known for certain whether it will officially get updated to 7.0, but they certainly seem to continue with updates whether they be small fixes and security patches.
I would generally recommend Samsung as well to any friends who want a decent reliable device, although I personally wouldnt choose it over the Note 4 as its got 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. I'm not all about having the biggest screen/fastest processor/most RAM, etc etc, but I've had 16GB phones (my previous one was 32GB) and I just like having the extra internal space, 16GB feels limited these days. And with 64GB the Note 4 just feels like you've no worries about running out, I had a Oneplus One previously as well and it also had 64GB. The bonus on the Note for is the sd card option as well, so you get the best of both worlds.

I want my device to be reliable but i also need it to be snappy and futureproof (my S3 has served me well for 4 years with custom roms ) i want a fast smartphone that will go a long way and the A5 lacks on internal storage and Ram ... so yeah i am seriously thinking the possibility of buying Redmi note 4 but i still have my doubts about it .. i am just not sure if it is worth the investment.

If you want longevity and futureproof with custom roms, I would definitely take a look at the Note 3, just look at the ROM development thread at the link below. It reminds me of the Oneplus One or Nexus 5 forums, where you could not only get official cyanogen roms, but all the other great custom roms, so you're really spoilt for choice. Its really only the other phone I considered apart from the Note 4 and again i was just really impressed with the Note 4's build quality.

Sorry not meaning to hijack the thread, just a quick question abotu which OS to choose @gsmyth you seem to be the right person to ask... I have my Redmi Note 4 on order and I think MIUI 8 will work well for me. It seems lik there is still some issues with cofface's AOSP. I will probably debloat it and use Nova Launcher. Of all the different options with MIUI 8, which one would you recommend to use?

Yes the CM/AOSP roms are still early in development, but worth keeping an eye on. I'm really enjoying MIUI to be honest and nova launcher is excellent too. You should be grand with the global rom or the EU rom which is basically the Chinese rom but with all the Chinese content removed. I'd recommend unlocking the bootloader when you get it and installing TWRP, it's great to be able to make full backups if you're trying out roms.

https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-12-15.36782/
Official Global Beta rom is also another option that but DOES NOT require unlocked BL and Root

This phone is worth every penny, specially the 64 gb and 3 gb version. I'm still on the latest EU MIUI 8.2, and it's actually a pretty great rom, but I do prefer CM... For now I'll keep Miui.
Hi there, just want to pitch you my 2 cents regarding the Redmi Note 4.
I have been looking for a smarthphone for a while and i end up getting a Redmi Note 4 a month ago. Really happy with it and imo my best purchase of the year 2016 :fingers-crossed:
The Redmi Note 4 build quality looks and feel absolutely superb as i'm used to seeing plastic phones in this price category. Most of my friends seeing my Redmi Note 4 for the first time thought it was something more expensive than it actually was.
On the performance side: it's great, but not as great as equal Snapdragon based product with Adreno GPU. But it's definitely and absolutely no sloth! The weakest link imo is the Mali GPU, but still good enough to have a great gaming experience with it (half of my internal storage is currently occupied by huge amount of Android games). But not strong enough for smooth VR experience.
Also, consider the Redmi Note 4 only got released in August, give it some time for developers to make their ROMs compatible with the Redmi Note 4. Even Xiaomi themselves seems to be more focussed on Redmi Note 3 support than Note 4 atm.

I woulnd't recommend anyone to pay 50 euro MORE for a 'lesser' product (about it's core functionality and hardware):
- Galaxy A5 has lower resolution screen: 720 vs 1080p
- Slower performance, Antutu 20k on the A5 vs 85k on Redmi Note 4
- Less RAM and less storage space (assuming you going for the 3GB model, other wise it would be the same)
- No fingerprint sensor for security and unlocking the phone, and the Redmi Note 4 fingerprint sensor is very quick!
- No 4G(LTE) support on the Galaxy A5
- No USB On-The-Go (OTG) support on the Galaxy A5, which is very handy for anyone with lots of USB devices
If anything, they should be paying you 50 euro to stay loyal to their brand....
I always gets giddy when i read people base their purchase on the argument: "They are a reliable brand". That always makes me wonder what exactly makes a brand "reliable"? Reliable on trying to make you upgrade the product every year? Honestly, those are the hallmark of a fanboi
There are a few reasons however i can think of someone going for the Galaxy A5 anyway:
- Form factor: the Redmi Note 4 is considerably bigger
- Accessories: Having a hard time finding a cover for it locally: not much luck so far. Not surprising however as Xiaomi is not even active in Europe makes it pretty much fail quest to begin with. Online is the only way i guess, same as selling them online (where i got it from) is what Xiaomi business is about; to keep them cheap.
- Repairs or guarantees. No European office means this is going to be a problem if your phone is broken.

I bought Redmi Note 4 3GB RAM and 64 GB ROM model. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Seriously now, how can Samsung be considered "reliable" after their latest explosive device?
Wow guys thank you so much for the answers.
I would first like to thank the bro who hijacked the thread because i got informed about the roms too i know that the phone is quite more powerful than the A5 and i would like to add something .
How does it do next to Redmi Pro
i now what i am asking is terrible but
Could please do a quick comparison of the two ?
Why go RedMi Note 4 instead of Redmi Pro and vice versa
Redmi Pro Version Decacore 64GB 3GB Ram

I too looked between the Redmi Pro & Note 4 but decided to go with the Note 4 as I wanted the larger screen & was happy to go MTK.

Hello XDA , I'v always wanted a note never got the chance . I'm about to buy my new 4 years long smartphone and I'm looking highly at the note FE
my questions :
1- Did Samsung made that phone or its refurbished by other sellers ?
2- Should I be concerned about the phone battery accidents or not anymore ?
3- Can I still find accessories for it and would the regular note 7 accessories works on it ?
4- Would it last for the next 4 years
5- Is there anything should I worry about or know before buying this phone ??
