Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Desktop Mode? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello can you tell me if the redmi note 9 pro supports desktop mode?
I want to connect a monitor with hdmi, keyboard and mouse. Any device/adapter that supports that?
Thank you.

@nik33
If the phone is USB-OTG enabled it should be possible to mirror phone's screen.

[Q] use USB monitor on android device as secondary monitor

I want to utilize my Lenovo Thinkvision LT1421 as a secondary monitor on my Galaxy Note 3.
DisplayLink provides a driver for Mac/Win.
Any option to have something like this on an android device?
Thank you.

FYI: Oreo Beta 4 disables DeX mode using the HP elite X3 lap dock

On Beta 3 (and possibly lower) of Oreo, you could plug your s8 into the HP Elite X3 Lap dock and it would enable full DeX where the keyboard and trackpad would work - enabling your s8 to turn into a pretty damn good laptop.
Unfortunately, I just updated to beta 4 and it completely disables Dex Mode from activating on the Lap dock. All it does now is mirror your screen. However, The keyboard and mouse still do work
Anyone know how to possibly activate it on a non-rooted s8?
Am curious to know if there are any workarounds as well!
Actually, this hurts my feelings so much... I really hoped on using one without the need to root my S8 at all...
You might try using the Sentio desktop application, which is designed to provide the desktop for the Sentio Superbook project.

Cool little app. It is basically just a launcher for screen mirroring though, but works.
I am on a Note 8 running beta Oreo CRA9 and my KSWNG from Amazon works, but it requires power for Dex to load... however when power is attached, my USB port stops functioning. I confirmed this in regular android on my phone. The attached mouse disappears once I add in power.
Anyone else have this issue? All of the videos I've seen, use Dex without power.

I'm not a Note 8 user, but I don't have any problem using dex with power.

Screen mirroring not working

Hi,
Was using a USB C to HDMI wired mirror screening dongle with LG V20 earlier without any issue but even though Poco F1 plays USB DAC and other storage devices normally mirroring doesn't work at all. Is dongle not compatible or Miui issue? Anyone using a mirroring dongle successfully then pls link it.

I've read a couple of threads on here and one on Mi forums where people have found the same. I'm hoping it will be added in a software update. Meanwhile it casts to Chromecast natively (not what you're asking for, but something)

Yeah looks like one of those things that Xiaomi thinks doesn't matter to include. Also, I see 'wireless display' in settings on Poco but doesn't mention what kind. So my extended question is does it support Miracast/DLNA?

The "wireless display" function initiates Chromecast screen cast. It might do Miracast as well but I don't have a dongle to test
Found that OP5 has same issue and they found a solution https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/themes/wired-tv-one-plus-5-makes-displaylink-t3667974 though it's more expensive than a Chromecast/Miracast. I miss my LG now.
My Poco F1 also not connecting to MI Android TV through Miracast

In other thread someone wrote it didn't work with his Miracast device. So it's still not clear.
Not for me
Earlier it used to connect to my mi tv but now it doesn't. Also checked with Chromecast and fire TV 4k

I think that I read somewhere that it is Google which has made the change in Pie so that only Chromecast will connect. May be an earlier version of android will help.
Hi! I don't want to start another thread, so I'll describe my issue here.
I have last MIUI 10.3.8.0 and I have problems with screen mirroring. Previous MIUI I used to connect my phone to my Samsung TV and it worked as a charm. Yesterday i tried to connect again, but i didn't manage to connect. Have anyone the same problem? Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Did u find a solution bro? I'm facing same issue.
Yes, I did hard reset and all is OK now.
Hi you all probably figured this out already but it seems that screen mirroring native miracast is broken on most recent xiaomi phone models since they were updated. I have a Redmi Note 5 (Whyred), a mi max 2 and a mi max 3. Only the Max 2 works normally. The other models can cast using apps that cast like Prime Video, VLC etc but can't simply mirror whatever is on the screen. The Miui forums are full of such reports. No response from Xiaomi and no viable workaround. I was already reluctant to upgrade because Id been waiting for MHL hardwired video out to be implemented and it never was (Id pay a premium fot a xiaomi phone that had it). I saw a couple of XDA threads where folks got mirroring to work via custom roms and my phone is rooted but I am uncertain which rom might accomplish this fix for my particular model.
These are my last Xiaomi phones unless I see something official from them about a solution for this known problem. Mirroring is anessential for me not just for entertainment but for work.
Hi I finally solved the problem of screen cast
first (turn on Bluetooth and WiFi )
Then enable the Screen mirroring on the TV
Then connect the WiFi to the TV
Enable Screen cast on phone and search and connect to TV

Poco X3 is not able to Cast screen by using Wireless Display or Google Home App with Google Chromecast. Need solution.
I don't know whether this might help anyone else but I had disabled miconnect package on my Xiaomi devices. when I re-enabled miconnect service and uniplay service, Chromecast started working again (I am not sure why miconnect should matter ... it isn't supposed to be related to non xiaomi devices, but it is something else to try if you disabled it too).

Desktop Mode on Chormecast

Hey Everyone.
Recently my Mate 10 pro updated to EMUI 9 Beta. Everything (or the most part) works fine. One of the features I want to use is the wireless desktop mode in my TV, but I only have a normal LED TV with a chromecast plugged in, and doesn't works.
The mate 10 pro does not "see" or "detect" the chormecast when I activate "Screen Projection", but I can do it in others SmartTV.
Someone finds a solution for this issue?
Thanks a Lot. Grettings from Patagonia, Chile.

I don't know much about this casting thing but Desktop Mode works with only miracast supported devices.

Question : any way I can use my oneplus 7t pro with m&b on monitor like dex

Hi guys the power of this phone is insane. I wws wondering if there is any viable way to use it like a semi-pc on a monitor with mouse and keyboard for simple tasks like web browsing/word/excel/powerpoint... Any way to achieve this maybe with the help of a chrome cast or something?
I've no clue what it does, but there's a "force desktop mode" setting in Developer Options. XDA had an article on it here
It sort of works, but don't expect any miracles. It's very buggy At this point the huawei desktop mode or the samsung dex way better. You can find some guides on youtube and internet. I've tried it on my Oneplus 7T pro, but I dont think I am going back anytime soon.
There's an app called Flow Desktop that enhances the desktop mode quite a bit compared to the "standard" Google Desktop mode but it is still far from Dex and Huawei.
It is work in progress and the developer uses a 7T Pro as his main dev device. You can preview it for 2 minutes and purchase a license à 2.79€ to get the full version. It's on the Play Store.
Connexion trough USB-C --> HDMI adapter of Miracast (the latter is still lagging a bit though).
