Hello,
in Oreo I could just tap hold the text and disable the notification, iirc. In Pie I just get the info that notifications from this app can't be disabled (System UI). I tried System UI Tuner as well but it didn't work as well.
Did anybody achieve this already?
@ChazzMatt
Could you please drop some knowledge?
I have Do Not Disturb activated at all times so I don't need to be informed about it.
I stayed on stock rooted Oreo, so have no day to day knowledge of LG Pie quirks. Sorry.
However, on a similar note, I reverted back to older version of some apps (My Data Manager being one) -- where newer versions insisted upon putting an icon up in the notification bar area when they are running. That particular app runs all the time and I have a widget on my pull down bar which tells me my monthly data total at any moment. I know it's running in the background, but I don't want to see an icon all the time up in the area where NOTIFICATIONS go. Keeps making me think I have new mail, a new text, something....
Up until about the time Pie came out, I could manually disable the notification bar "badge". With updated versions of the app I could not. So, I reverted to older version from APK Mirror on mine, my wife's, my mother's phones and UNchecked auto update on Google Play for that app.
There's other apps where I stay on older versions for functionality reasons.
Thank you for your insights!
Seems like I should have stayed on Oreo.
On another note I fiddled around with Automagic and was able to hide notifications for the system app System-UI altogether, but that also hides some other notifications I'd like to keep. But it shows that it should be possible. In SystemUI Tuner you can add custom tweaks if you know the right variables and values. Maybe someone knows where one can find the right values.
The solution that I'm using now is setting a custom sleep duration via System UI Tuner to 9999 and only having to worry every few months about it.
Does anybody know what's the maximum duration?

I've done some searching and I haven't found anything like this. I'm not an Android dev but I think I understand enough about the model to believe my idea possible in some form.
So...
Programs that run constantly require a persistent notification so the system won't kill them. I run Talkatone, Tasker, Light Manager LED Settings which all have the option to run persistent or take a chance and have them killed without a persistent notification. This sucks because the status bar gets cluttered with things that are always there but I don't need to constantly see them. But Android 4.3, which I'm running, does this by design (for largely good reasons, I believe).
Would it be possible to have a program (I'll call it "Watcher") which creates its own persistent notification that then keep tabs on other programs that you want to always run but don't want their persistent notification.
More clearly, say I always want Tasker to run but I don't want its notification. I turn off persistent notifications in Tasker's options then add Tasker to the Watcher's list. Whenever Tasker gets killed by the system due to resources, Watcher notices this and restarts it shortly thereafter. The advantage is that the system can still reclaim resources when it needs them but the notifications don't clutter the status bar.
I am imagining a rich notification where maybe every Watched app's icon is shown in a small square with a number by it showing how many times Watcher had to restart it recently.
Unfortunately, I'm not an Android dev and I've only done enough research to make me think it might be possible. Does this app exist already? Is it impossible? Is it possible enough for me to consider turning this into my first Android project?
Thoughts?
I've noticed in the Marshmallow update that the status bar is now grey when you have power saver on. Why?! I always leave my phone in power saver unless I'm playing games. It used to be transparent or, match the general color of what ever app you had open. Is there an easy fix for this? Or is this just one of those things they changed for the sake of changing them that will require a custom rom to get around? I always hate these little things that are just annoyances that come with every android update.
It was something that changed. But also same as xda developers on chrome makes the bar orange is a change in MM but does help with burn in a little.
Would need root or custom rom to remove.
Hi, there
there is many devices and apps that require them to be running all the time to make them work for example smartbands, they have a notification saying connected, maybe one is fine, but i have 2 apps that require this and have to notification there all the time that I find annoying, is there any way to maybe have them running still but just hide the notifications?
If you're running Nougat, you can slide the notification to either side and open the settings for that app. There, press the encircled A and select the priority of the notification accordingly.
bump, can someone have a look
I have a weird problem. I got the Note 8 a little while ago, and everything was fine for a while. However, I one day noticed that the phone didn't show a notification when DND was on, or charging information in the notification shade when plugged in. After lots of searching, I've found that the System UI app in Settings is set to not show notifications. When I try to press the notifications in the app details, it takes me to a panel that just says System UI, and when I press it, it goes straight back to the app details, but what looks like in a new page. It's pretty much a loop, and I cannot seem to turn the notifications back on. Does anyone know how to fix this without having to reset the device? Thanks!
Download and install SystemUI Tuner, grant the permissions over ADB, then in Miscellaneous enable Power Notification Controls and then you can re-enable them.
Here is how to grant permission

Good Luck
Terrific. Worked perfectly well on Note8. Thanks!!!!!!!!
ahhhhhhhhhhh i am looking so hard for a way to have what you have, i hate system notifications mostly because now with the oreo update it keeps bugging me to confirm that i want to disable the data when i use the quick toggle, it s an annoying popup, and i do not have that option avabile for oreo in the solution posted above
After android 9 update from T-Mobile my s9+ no longer shows the clock icon over in the right side group of icons to tell me the clock is running in the background. This is kind of annoying because the clock was always very unreliable and I used to check that to make sure the clock was still going (I'm using the stock google clock app, not samsung's clock app). Is there some setting to make this come back? Is there any other way to tell the clock is still running?
Also I no longer get the icon telling me I'm on wifi calling from the phone app (though the setting for wifi preferred is still turned on in the app). I presume it is doing wifi calling anyway.
The clock icon is apparently the system alarm icon that says alarms are set. I found the UI tuner launcher app, and it shows the system alarm icon as being active, but no such icon appears in the status bar. Does the alarm clock app use some feature now that doesn't look like a system alarm any longer? Or is the system alarm icon just gone forever in android pie regardless of the UI tuner setting?

Click to collapse
If you pull down on the notification panel, it shows at the bottom the wifi calling is active. Weird place to put it, but I guess they just want one software for all and are taking things away from good phones for the stupid pin/pill hole on the next worst thing.
