Hello, just got a Xperia 1 64GB 802SO (SoftBank) imported to Canada. I can't seem to get any Android updates. Its stuck on security November 2019, and Android 9.
I've tried starting the phone in Japanese with Japan as region and using a Japanese VPN.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to trip the updates? I'm stuck.
Thanks in advance
Hi. I have the phone. But I'm in Japan. Is it bootloader unlocked? If it is you might not be able to get ota Updates
Hey there,
No need to stress, just download the Xperia Companion app for Win/Mac and you can do all the updates from there for that japanese version regardless from where you are located.
The updates are not accumulative, so you will need to do one at the time. Can be a little bit time consuming but very worth. Kindly let us know how it went.
TrustAugustus, I just have regular Android installed as from factory. For some reason the updates didn't want to come in. I can only guess it has something to do with my region, Canada. Some sort of region lock on updates... However I installed the Sony PC Companion app as djmaxi suggested and I was able to finally get the updates to come in. I was able to update from 55.0.E.0.528 (Android 9, November 2019 Security) to 55.1.B.0.335 (Android 10, August 2020 Security).
djmaxi, thanks it worked. It was just as you said, one update at a time, but it finally updated. I'll have to check periodically thru the Sony pc companion app for future updates. Sony customer support wasn't able to help me with this even. Thanks!
Any issues with the japan version
Hello
I am planning to buy the japan version as well, just wanted to know have you faced any issues using this one in Canada except the update issue which you mentioned.
aliadils3d no other issues so far. I highly recommend the phone. 4K HDR video looks amazing. No camera notch or curved screen to crack. I was coming from an S8+ and using the wife's iPhone 11 max in the interim. Xperia 1 is my favorite. Ordered the screen protector and case from mobilefun. Took almost a month for them to arrive from the UK. If you purchase the phone from pdaplaza use the discount code WELCOME for $10 off.
Hi all!
I plan to order Xperia 1 64GB 802SO from Japan.
According to specification, this is single Sim version.
I know, is it double Sim version of Xperia 1.
it possible to update single Sim version to double Sim? Or this problem is hardware problem?
Thanks!
I just imported a 1 ii and 1 for 240 and 190 USD. The 1 ii is new and 1 has some paint off the fingerprint sensor and other than that new condition, not even micro scratches. Japanese dudes take care of their stuff for sure. Good deals I think. I have a few Japanese Sony already two units xz3 801so, one xz2p from au. Annoying things about these are missing frequency bands. Here I don't get LTE plus. I know you can unlock bands but man it's so complicated and have to bootloader unlock and root. Can someone tell me how they lock band in the first place that's not even fixed by flashing different country firmware with flashtool. I don't recommend flashing these Japanese phones, you will lose NFC, as far as I know no cure due to different hardware and drivers, nobody put in the effort on this. The 1 and 1 ii it's not bad at least they let you put in apn ok. The xz3 you have to use another program to force apn. Someone needs to make a thing that is like the qunlocktool to flash these phones to have all radio frequency. I live with 4g no 4g+ since got these phone so cheap. One for me one for wife. Minor issues used to bug me a lot and read a lot about it and in the end gave up, keeping the phone stock is best.
Oh I came here to complain the camera on these Xperia 1 and 1 ii, vs xz2 premium. Where did the iso 51200 go? Max is 3200. Seriously. The iso 51200 on the xz2p is really good and fun to use. I have a canon 1dx and 1dsII. So now the camera is like going backwards. The 1dx can do 51200, 1ds only 3200. I mainly use the 51200 to capture my 2 year old funny sleep postures and room is dark. 51200 is the way to go. I am guessing the 1 and 1 ii is not capable due to the lack of black and white lens. The xz2p I had the problem with coating scratching off on the lens glass and I didn't know so I kept scratching it off. Now I got some cerium oxide and will polish it. Current photo has a red glow when taking on high contrast areas lol. Once I fix the glass I may sell it, debating if I should keep it just for the camera and the 16:9, so rare now, and the phone itself is pretty rare. There are not a lot of discussions on these au and Docomo model Xperia. Should since you can get these dirt cheap and brand new from Japanese contacts if you know people. Unlock is 24 bucks with S1 network unlock or qunlocktool.
If anyone have a way to unlock the bands without going through the Qualcomm Snapdragon band unlock guide let me know. I have one xz3 bootloader unlocked and it shows annoying warning message when phone start. Apparently no way to relock it before I sell it. I think I'll keep this unlocked bootloader xz3 to play around and learn stuff. I have 2 each from xzp to 1 lol. I hoard Sony flagships. Now eBay has seller promotion 10 items I will sell some phones. Keeping just the 1s and xz2p.
Well most of you just like me got the Softbank/Japan variant of this phone,I'd like for you guys to dig into smth even better I'll try it too, I owned Japanese Xperias before and there was a way to convert those to official global variant using certain files in flash tools while avoiding for instance lets say the baseband related stuff and they worked like a charm though this time around given some are 128 some 64 I am not sure will it work, but for starters we will need unlocked bootloader to at least backup important files before approaching this, I heard people achieved bootloader unlock : yes via lets say s1 tool any insights?
to me it seems the single sim J8110 or J8170 might be closest

Hi guys
I'm a Sony enthusiast and love the Xperia line up have had several Xperia phones actually, loved them all.But what grabbed me most is the sleek precision engineered Z ultra, fallen in love with it since day one, but never had the opportunity to get it due to many causes on top of them it's availability in my country and high initial price. I lately had the chance of getting a new one and it amazed me actually. What bothered me is that when I checked the configuration menu I found out that the Bootloader unlock statue is set to NO, which is a nightmare. What makes it worse is that I have no warranty as a friend of mine got it to me from Europe brand new and on the packaging there is no trace or name that would justify that it was purchased on contract from a carrier. So guys, is there anyway I can get the Bootloader unlocked ? and how can I get information on it's carrier ''providing it was sold on contract'' . I have seen many people with various Xperia devices who have a Bootloader unlock status:NO on contract free phones, and also, seen many cases of the Bootloader unlock status:NO and people still could unlock it the official way. Please light me up
Do NOT buy this phone in the US unless Sony gets its phones approved to work with T-Mobile & AT&T
I have a Sony Xperia X Compact and it is the BEST ANDROID PHONE I have ever had.
Despite that I have to say that NOBODY SHOULD BUY ANY SONY PHONES.
The phone is awesome and technically supports pretty much any 3G and 4G band out there but Sony refuses to get these phones approved by AT&T and T-Mobile for VoLTE.
That means (for T-Mobile as an example) that the Xperia X Compact technically supports T-Mobile's super-duper Band 12 LTE which has almost better coverage than Verizon, BUT because the phone is not approved for VoLTE, Sony phones will almost immediately get disconnected from that T-Mobile tower. You may be standing next to someone with an approved phone that has 100% coverage, yet the Sony Xperia phones will show NO RECEPTION.
Sony phones should be able to at least connect to Band 12 for data but they don't. It may technically have the ability to connect to Band 12 and even use VoLTE, but the tower refusal to keep the connection. Sony then apparently also screwed up the band prioritization, because Sony phones even have issues connecting to non VoLTE networks (eg Band 4).
As a result, ALL SONY PHONES ARE PRETTY MUCH UNUSABLE on T-Mobile and AT&T AS A PHONE.
Do NOT buy any Sony phones if you want to use them on T-Mobile and AT&T, though I can tell you that they are the BEST phones otherwise - just not as a phone.
This is pathetic and there is no response from Sony.

Unproven rumors that it will be voLTE certified. NO CONFIRMATION FROM SONY OR T-MOBILE.
Even so, you won't be able to use the fingerprint sensor, since the international ROM won't support it.
Do NOT buy!!!!

You have a really hard-on for Sony for some reason....
Everything points that it will have both of the supports for TMobile. Why not just wait and see before making such a claims?

Because Sony ****ED over buyers for the last three phone generations.
Why not stop buying Sony phones until they fix that!?
Because Sony can just as easily choose not to sell phones in the US as they can choose to spend extra to sell unlocked phones. Alot of people buy and they may see the window to release carrier phones again.
Also, because no one else produces a sub-5" android superphone and the XZ1 Compact is the only way to signal that there is a market for them.
I had the Z3 Compact and Z5 Compact. I've been on Samsungs for the last 2.5 years because they've had the smallest US flagships.

I also would buy another phone if there was another sub 4.8 screen and 13MP+ phone with USB C, SD card and 3+GB RAM.
The Xperia X Compact is the best Android device that I have ever owned.
But without VoLTE it is unusable as a phone or even internet connected device on T-Mobile.
I essentially sit on a t mobile tower at work and I don't get reception.
That is just fvkced up.
Selling these phones as Sony is currently doing is the same as not selling them ...
My x compact worked fine on Tmobile.. I would definitely recommend the xz1 and compact!!

That is interesting since everyone is reporting it not working with LTE. Just check the XDA forum.
There is currently no reason to believe this one too be different.
Man, what's wrong with you? Seriously?
You give this thread an ABSOLUTE imperative title, with capital conjunctions and all - which is BS in the first sentence, and misleading in the second, to say the very least.
Then, my hats off, only in the post you manage to make fit the relevant information that everybody can get to evaluate for itself.
Which, not only is very minor and objectively variable for whatever specific conditions one's have, but now has also that little petty incidental detail of being confirmed by multiple sources.. And it still doesn't make a difference?
Oh, and last but not least, you bring up the goddamn fingerprint problem, as if you couldn't just flash european firmware and call it a straight day.

I'm sorry to say this, but you're clueless. Any phone you buy that's not sold directly by AT&T will not support VoLTE, regardless of manufacturer. Saying it's a Sony thing and putting the blame on them is a dumbass move. I have bought countless unlocked phones from Samsung, LG, OnePlus and Sony of course and none of them support VoLTE or WifiCalling, that's AT&T (and T-Mobile) to blame, not the manufacturer. If you called T-Mobile and AT&T and that's what a clueless rip told you, lol for believing they know anything but how an iPhone works.

Pretty much this.
Thread closed as it serves no real purpose.
Just wanted to see if anyone who purchased the mate 10pro from three UK has had a firmware update yet.
My device shipped with BLA-L09 8.0.0.115 (C782) and I haven't had any updates yet.
I have spoken to Huawei CS and they have said that I should receive an OTA update to BLA-L09C 8.0.0.124a(C782) but it's yet to materialize and I haven't seen this version mentioned anywhere.
The reason I want the update is because I'm having camera issues, in low light photos look like an oil painting and are lacking detail. I also keep getting this message to keep the phone steady even if I rest the phone on something flat
Thanks for any input on this
I get the same. I guess Huawei will eventually fix the problem with a software update. I'm also on version 115 (C782) without an update on O2. I was told 124 version is rolling out, but not recieved it yet.
However, I seem to remember another member on here also on 3 network had received the update in the last few days. It's based on your IMEI number from what I understand.

Yeah I think it's done in batches, I have the CS rep my IMEI number and that's how they knew what firmware I was on / due to be getting.
Really hope it's sorted cos at the minute the camera is rubbish in low light auto.
Does your phone have a O2 bootlogo? Mine has a three logo, just wondering if networks like to tinker with the firmware before it's sent out and causing further delays.

No, I just have the Huawei logo. I picked it up from Carphone Warehouse who don't normally tinker with the branding too much.

Hi, I am on three network... but bought the phone unlocked from CPW. Original firmware was BLA-L09 8.0.0.115 (C782). Received an update about a week or so ago to BLA-L09 8.0.0.124 (C782). On a side note....Used the phone for a wee while without a SIM card, but as soon as I put one in it installed the three splash screen and other three bloatware (wuntu etc)... must be one phone sold by Huawei to all the vendors that customises itself to the SIM inserted... with that in mind, would have thought that these would update soon as they are identical initial firmwares to mine. As to the camera, can't really comment outright with the old firmware... have done some low light comparisons now with my s8+ and have got to say the mate 10 pro edges it slightly... which is a pretty big deal, because the s8+ was always a beast for photos. My only grumble (still there) is that HDR isn't on by default. Bugs me to bits that one....

Thanks for that, I might try a different sim just to see if anything changes (don't even know if the phone is locked to three) waiting game for that update now :good:
I got mine last Saturday from Cex. On Tuesday I got an update do 127. I don't have any issues with camera in low light but in terms of that "sharpening photo" message I had it on P10 as well. I think the handset is still taking picture in challenging light conditions, even after you've pressed the shutter, for like a brief second or so. I do have issues with WiFi though. As in, shows it's connected to WiFi but I have to turn WiFi off and on to actually see any content in chrome etc. It doesn't happen that often but every now and then.

I was offered 124, but it failed to install, and then wasn't offered it again. I installed Hisuite from their website, and was instantly offered 124 again.
Worth a try.
I have a 3 supplied M10Pro, running a ee sim currently.

Really am thinking of returning it, I had a oneplus one before this with less issues, it's amazing how much difference the software can make

Will give it a try, I was thinking about removing the SIM and doing a factory reset to see if I'm offered the update after a fresh install, but it's probably just pot luck with the IMEI
Same here, wifi is virtually unusable so i rely on my 4G which really sucks. I bought mine sim free from Amazon uk and im on the old firmware too, Tried the Hisuite but not offered the upgrade

You mean from the router ? I think mine is set to auto but never had this problem on any other phones and i've had lots !!!
Wifi
Having WiFi issues too. Connected via 5 GHz and each night the WiFi suddenly disappears. Have to toggle WiFi on and off to get it back. Bought as upgrade on Three network and on same software as other posters.
Just tried the hisuite to see if it offers the update, but no luck.
My router is also set to auto but never had this issue with other phones. Is it worth setting the router to just 2.4 to see how it goes.
I've also turned off this WiFi+ just to see if it makes a difference

WiFi issues here too amongst other things. Thinking of sending it back
Huawei issue with WiFi is when using 5ghz it will kick you off and freeze.
If you connect to the 2ghz only it will work perfect for you.
It's the same problem with Huawei routers using 5ghz sucks. Must be a Huawei 5ghz problem in general as the hardware they use in router and phone suck. My old talk talk router made by Huawei used to freeze on the 5ghz all the time.
I'm also on three mobile with unlocked 10 pro on 115 firmware and still waiting on a update....
I'm my case WiFi is fine (using only 2ghz thou)
Camera in low light is useless
Always on display causing freezing when unlocking phone (turning off always on display cured the unlock freezing problem)
Putting an ee SIM in you can upgrade using hi suite but I'd rather wait then mess with phone and have EE bloatware on my phone.
Google Pay: apparently, to use it in the US, you need to go to Settings / More / Secure Element Position / use HCE wallet. The default SIM wallet gets rejected everywhere (you get "insert chip card" or "card read error"). The supposedly more secure "Secure Element" doesn't register at any terminals I encountered. Could be that the tech is too new to have support. I don't know I figured this out today after forgetting my wallet and having the gas tank empty sign pop up...
Now for carrier support - I'm in Houston, Texas. So far, I'm on MINT wireless (T-Mobile MVNO). It gets great LTE everywhere - 63.9MBps down 27.6 up at my house inside the 610 loop on a Saturday evening. In Katy, TX (west of Houston) I'm getting 13.2MBps down 8.1 up at 1045AM Monday inside a huge office building. For reference, my Moto Z2 Force on Sprint basically gets similar results and its modem is optimized for Sprint's LTE network aggregation. So I'd say that's a win.
I checked all the bands and towers prior to ordering. The missing T-Mobile US bands are B66 and B71 - these happen to be only on towers that have the Mi 9 supported bands (B2 B4 B12). I.e., you won't have B66 if you don't already have a supported band. B71 is using old over the air TV frequencies so it isn't available in most markets to begin with, as there are still TV stations occupying the band. I checked all the tower maps across the country and it looks like pretty solid coverage although I haven't gone cross country with the phone yet.
Now you can use AT&T or Cricket (MVNO) and it only is missing band 30. Apparently this can matter in congested markets but the phone supports carrier band aggregation so you are likely not to notice much difference. Anyone with experience please post your results.
Here's the link to check frequency support if you desire to see for yourself. Finding the actual towers is more work zooming in on towers to see the bands available...

Hope this helps some of you out!
Oh another side note - Google Maps works BEST in low drain mode - i.e. internal GPS mode. Saves battery and is accurate all over my area. If I do high accuracy weird things start happening. Not complaining this is a plus as it adds battery life by mistake

Yeah just get a Global Version from a reputable source - like Gearbest. I have a 64gb the 128gb is more popular. No SD Card storage and this takes the best 4k video according to benchmarks. 64gb is running $500 at the moment in Blue. I didn't use shipping insurance, they packed it VERY well, took about 10 days to get here (hybrid USPS / FedEx Smart post is free). I like the MIUI custom interface some don't. It's clean and full of cool features like clearing RAM, exploring you folders, remote app to control all your TVs. I keep Mi Cloud off and use Google Photos and backup.
There's also a few used ones 128gb on eBay but be careful - ensure they are legit and not Chinese ones flashed with Global ROMs. Common issue that's why I say go official...

Well they are cheaper for a reason. They aren't designed to be used out of China. They are missing a band (can't recall which one). They have to unlock the bootloader (15 day wait) before flashing it or have to do it some unofficial way. If you lock the BL on Global Official it will brick the Chinese phone.
Now if you want to mod it and stay on Xiaomi.eu custom ROMs then you'd be alright. Just check for the missing band I don't know if it's US or EU...
But keep in mind they can install whatever ROM or spyware or ads they want. Do you want to take that chance? If you don't care and want to install Xiaomi.eu right away get knowledgeable and don't enter anything (banking info etc) before flashing. The cheapest Chinese one I found on sale was $426 and the reviews "looked" positive on Alibaba but digging deeper tons of phone issues and no warranty service or DOA service. 45-60 day delivery times. I said screw that and paid more for a reputable source. Of course it's your choice.

Ducter -
You'd do fine with the 64GB Global. It takes 2 SIM cards right off the bat. Most people don't know you can just use Google Photos (you may need it from the Play Store) and it will store all your high res photos for free saving space on the device. https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_009200231138.html?wid=1349303 you can use Topcashback for 3.5% off if you want. https://www.topcashback.com/ref/mslezak and use a cash back credit card over PayPal for more back. So I got 4.5% off. Or $477.50 total and no sketchy website, great packaging, and tracking.

Awesome! I am still highly considering getting the Mi 9.
I go to this site for freq questions:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/US/xiaomi-mi-9
I would probably go with the Transparent version, as I have seen it on ebay for the 256GB version for less than $700...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-...e-Mobile-LTE-Unlocked-Global-Rom/223482996714
I am REALLY wanting the OnePlus 7 Pro, but if it is more than $750, then I think I will go with the Mi 9.

$645 that's a kick ass phone. My brother has the latest iPhone and Samsung Galaxy I like the Mi 9 more. All your preference. Mi 9 is rated top photos and video by dxomark (https://www.diyphotography.net/xiaomi-mi9-camera-beats-out-the-iphone-xs-max-in-dxo-mark-test/) and is the fastest phone ATM see my 64GB model AnTuTu can't imagine what the extra RAM will do.
Be aware it won't come with Google apps installed although you can add it. Chinese version. You probably will need to unlock the BL (15 day wait) and burn the Xiaomi.eu ROM for best USA support. I don't know how they are selling it that cheap to be honest. $600 on AliExpress +$13 DHL shipping if you trust AliExpress... YMMV https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32999...d=2750amp-F88T4W4zk6Om8WCBZyD3TQ1556644946258

AND it still has the IR blaster, which I REALLY miss from my Lg G5 days. That is actually REALLY valuable when it comes to controlling your TV.
The MAIN reason when I even want the OnePlus 7 Pro at this point is because it is supposed to have UFS 3.0, which should make everything about the phone much faster...I just wish it was going to have an IR blaster.
...and of course the "no questions asked" bootloader unlock and rooting that OnePlus allows. I can't live without root...
From what I can see there is a 15 day wait time for the official Xiaomi unlock site. I don't even want to wait 15 days!! LOL

Yeah my unlock opens up Friday so I feel you. See my post I edited $613 AliExpress 256GB Transparent edition Mi 9 but please, please check the company feedback! I cancelled an order before after reading from the Mi Store empty boxes, broken phones, used phones arriving... And they were a top rated store!
IR blaster is awesome I turn on my TVs and DVRs and it supports basically anything made (even off brand) and is super convenient
I'm using this phone in Canada. no problems with reception or anything it just works great! Main reason I bought it was for the IR blaster. A month in I must say I'm loving it! Running the eu ROM on Chinese 128gb model I bought on AliExpress

Something to note fellow modder the Mi 9 running Xiaomi.eu weekly edition can use EX Manager to overclock the GPU and people are getting 400-420k AnTuTu benchmarks depending on how you set it up. Higher end scores turn off Fsync which is all fine if your system is stable - if not it can be bad - alters memory checks. I'm not sure you want a GPU running that hot all the time - RevOS has a game mode so you can turn it on just for games or whenever you want. Battery likely will drain quickly. Nonetheless that's faster than the leaked OnePlus Pro benchmarks. Revolution OS you have to add EX Kernel manager to the Game Turbo program to get it to throttle, unlock BL, TWRP, Magisk, etc. https://sourceforge.net/projects/revolutionos-miui/files/ I think straight Xiaomi.eu is cleaner 9.4.26 but haven't tried it yet. Some people say it is rock solid even at 810Mhz OC on the GPU. 2 days left to start modding...
In all honesty OnePlus devs will likely enable the same hacks so take the phone you prefer.
I'm using the Chinese variant on ATT. No issues whatsoever. I unlocked the BL and running ROS rom. Using GPay also. I bought it online from Giztop.

Have you changed any network settings at all. I have a Chinese variant and no matter what, I cannot get this to go LTE+ when my last few previous phones have. Am on tmobile but bands are supported for carrier aggregation.
Could you possibly take a screen shot of the phone information in *#*#4636#*#*. Scroll down to remove the first 3 lines in the screen shot. Just want to see the rest of the information.

Keep in mind that I live out in the suburbs of Denver and have poor reception. I normally use a Microcell tower at home. I turned it off for this screenshot.
I've had Sony Z5C on contract from O2 UK years ago and it had "bootloader unlock allowed : no" in the service menu (ruined my life) and just wandering if they have done the same thing with the Xperia 1?
Looking to buy this device or maybe the 2, so if anyone has picked it up already on contract from O2 could you please check this for me.
Many thanks in advance.

It's not always consistent so even if someone says they can't/can on O2 doesn't mean it will be the same for you. All down to luck of the draw

It's the main reason I never bought from O2 for a long time. I learnt the hard way with the Xperia S back in the day!
Anyway, nowadays, O2 only sell their phones unlocked on their Pay Monthly contracts (not sure about PAYG). Regardless, I can confirm that my Xperia 1 bought directly from O2 is unlocked, and the bootloader can also be unlocked.
Hope that helps.

Thanks that's good to hear, put me off buying from them for years too, any O2 bloatware on it? O2 boot screen? Any other nasty stuff added like tether entitlement check for example? Hope they have given up with all that

Haven't tried tethering, but there was an app installed which could easily be removed. No O2 boot screen which is good.
I'll still be flashing to UK generic firmware once it is available!

Thanks for helping me out. I now know I'm most likely going to be safe getting a Sony device from them again! How are you enjoying the 1? Looks a great shape for one handed use. I'm going to wait until the size of the 2 is confirmed, I'm really hoping it's the same width just with a less elongated screen, that will be perfect imo

It's a nice handset, however suffering from a few performance issues at the mo. Hopefully it should be sorted with a software update, but noticing the odd micro-stutter here and there.
Still getting used to the form factor, as it can be tricky to use in one handed mode - not so much for the width, but for the length. It can feel like the handset will topple i.e. being a bit top-heavy, which is due to how long it is. Probably will get used to it. Will be interesting to see how the Xperia 2 moves things forward...

That sounds annoying, I've currently got a 2.5 year old OnePlus 5T that I've dirty flashed over 20 beta updates without ever doing a wipe and it's still absolutely flawless performance with 4-6 hrs sot everyday and a ridiculous amount of apps installed, the only micro stutter I've ever seen since I've had it is in a 3rd party app, bit of a lag swiping away a tab from the recents in kiwi browser and that's it. Hopefully it gets sorted for you in an update soon.
I'll go into a store and hold the Xperia 1 and 2 when it's released, I only want a new phone because I have a slight crack in the screen of my 5T so in no major rush right now I don't wanna regret what I buy.
I would have bought the OnePlus 7 pro but the size is just stupid IMO and if I bought the normal 7 I'd just feel cheated I was missing out on the things the 7 has.
Thanks for your help with this and if you don't mind when the Xperia 2 comes out and I go phone shopping I may drop you a pm to see if any updates have sorted the performance issues for you.
Sure - no worries at all!

I know its been a while from this post. I just pre-ordered Xperia 1 II from O2 using a relative account (I live in the US and relative will mail me the phone once received). Paid full price of the phone up front and plan is month to month (postpaid not prepaid). Do you know if the phone will be unlocked out of the box? or an O2 sim needs to be inserted first time? O2 website says all their phone shipped after 2019 are unlocked but wasn't sure if an O2 sim need to be used firs time you turn it on. That's how it was for some Samsung unlocked phones 2 years ago. Would appreciate your response
No need to insert an O2 sim. I inserted a Three network SIM straight away and it worked fine. I don't believe anything has changed in the intervening year.
