Samsung Galaxy A11 (SM-A115W) missing bootloader unlock option - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
I have spent the last 8 hours working on this phone, after plenty of searching Google and these forums, I am stumped.
At first, this post here on XDA on rooting the SM-A115M seemed promising, however, it seems that his South American model was using a different firmware version (A115MUBU1ATC2) while my Canadian (SM-A115W) uses a newer firmware (A115WVLU2ATH2).
I actually went about patching my boot.img first, that I have done before successfully before so I figured I would start with the easy part.
However, unlocking the bootloader is not so straightfoward- because there is no OEM Unlock or Bootloader Unlock option present in Developer Options! While it seems there is a fix for some other Samsung devices, I did not have any success with that method- I think that the issue on those phones are different than the reason I do not have a bootloader unlock option- I have owned this phone for almost 2 months. (And I did what someone said in the comments about restarting the phone in between the steps and still no luck.)
I have since factory reset my phone to the stock firmware using Odin successfully to see if that would make any difference,
I have tried using several different fastboot commands that I found to unlock bootloader, but all I get is a command not recognized error no matter what I tried (and yes I did check fastboot devices to ensure my device was detected)
but, alas, I can not seem to enable unlocking of my bootloader.... any help will be much appreciated!
Thank you!
Typically in Android's system file called build.prop there is an entry ro.oem_unlock_supported that shows you whether unlocking the boot-loader is possible, or not.
Code:
adb devices
adb shell "getprop ro.oem_unlock_supported"
If returned value is 1, then it's supported otherwise it's not.

The return value is true!
This is a step in the right direction at least...
I decided to run getprop on its own and check out other variables,
Does sys.oem_unlock_allowed = 0 mean anything?

Value 0 indicates that "OEM Unlock" ( to unlock phone's bootloader ) wasn't yet enabled in Android Settings -> Developer optons.
If your phone is rooted then you can change entry's value to 1.
BTW: You can install and run Termux shell on phone to obtain temporary root privileges.

First of all, fastboot is not compatible with Samsung, Samsung does not have a fastboot mode. Samsung devices use download mode a.k.a. Odin mode.
If you do not have the OEM unlock setting, you will not be to unlock the bootloader by any other means. Not all Samsung devices have this setting. Basically, you're screwed, you won't be able to unlock bootloader on your device.

Could you please elaborate on the process of using Termux to make superuser changes to an un-rooted stock anydroid system that result in the bootloader being able to be unlocked?
I thought that I was on the right path when I came across proot and fakeroot, programs I had never used before or even had heard of- and I eneded up actually spending a lot trying to understand something I realized is an entirely new concept to me- why a program would need to think that it either was a superuser or existed in a superuser environment is beyond my scope at the present moment.
I am not sure if your statement is either incorrect, or there is a different way to accomplish.

You won't be able to do anything with Termux without root other than maybe starting/stopping/enabling/disabling system services or system apps.

So despite "ro.oem_unlock_supported = TRUE" if I am missing the menu option to allow unlocking, there is no way I can change "sys.oem_unlock_allowed = FALSE" to true?

Well on Samsung they have implemented KG state, where you have keep your phone connected to Internet with 7 days of uptime. Once the uptime is done KG state will get off and you get developers option.

His is not accurate.
After 7 days, you get the OEM unlock option, not developer options. You can get developer options at any time but after 7 days of up time, the OEM unlock option appears inside developer options.

I have exactly the same hardware.
I kept trying all sorts of things on it.
The most I ever got was that at some point I started it in Download mode (the green screen with messages at top left) and I noticed the KG STATUS line said CHECKING instead of the regular PRENORMAL.
But that got lost at the next Factory Reset, and I have no idea what exactly I had done to cause the KG STATUS to change to CHECKING...
One hack that I actually DID discover was how to get that stupid Setup Wizard started, without having to insert any SIM card in it at all, at any point.
But this OEM Unlock just never ever showed up in the Dev Options, not even when KG STATUS was CHECKING.
Looks like this piece of SamGoog crap will end up on my surgery table for a brain intervention, it's the only thing it will listen to.

I'm not sure if you can go from the 115W to the 115u1 =
I had the 115u with no oem unlock... failed to convert to the 115M that I read about...
YOU CAN convert the a115u to an a115u1 which provides an unlock oem option and you can then unlock bootloader.
Firmware #1 WORKED -oem unlock available:

New Baseband is

= I just wish there was a TWRP or a Magisk available... there only appears to be posts for the M version = which put my U1 into a bootloop... didnt work.
But I have a useless unlocked bootloader at least... until I learn to code TWRP or figure out the Magisk patch method.

Hi Blombardo,
I'm not sure what happened, but the link to full-repair-firmware you posted seems to be broken...
But I did download the firmware for XAR - A115U1UEU2ATG2 from Samfrew.com, and then also the same thing for USC.
But the weird thing is, I did a checksum for both and they seem to be IDENTICAL !!!???:
user:A115U1UEU2ATG2$ md5sum *.zip

user:A115U1UEU2ATG2$
So WTF ??? Samfrew.com has bogus files ???
I extracted this zip file, extracted the super.img from the AP_ tar file, mounted the system.img and checked a few things.
And I don't know what to say, but this firmware DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE OEM UNLOCK EITHER !!!
Here, take a look at /system/etc/prop.default from this firmware:

Looks like you might be wrong here, OEM Unlock is NOT available for A115U1UEU2ATG2 either ....
These are the same configs as in my SM-A115W, there's no difference !
If this firmware version had OEM Unlock, I should see ro.secure=0
The partitions DO LOOK different in A115U1UEU2ATG2 from my firmware, they have different sizes.
And the PIT file in the CSC_ tar file has a different name, but I'm really not sure if A115U1UEU2ATG2 actually has OEM Unlock available ...
Am I missing something here ?
I fear I'm not going to be of much help to you... I spent 12 hours learning how to get this a11 rooted and magisk installed only to be unable to find a TWRP that works - and then I noticed the phone has no NFC so I cant even use it as my daily phone... so its something I'm done with...
I just verified the link that I used works = it has a java enabled countdown that redirects to a second location where it tries to bait you to pay for faster uploads (or like I did - use the slower one)
SM-A115U1 | Samsung Galaxy A11 | Firmware Download for United States | PDA/MODEM: A115U1UEU2ATG2 | CSC: A115U1OYM2ATG2 — Samfrew.com

I've never used this samfrew site before and I'm not in a position to compare what I downloaded to what you may have found.

Strange ...
From my end, when the countdown stops, it looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

And then of course, since the link is reported to be broken, it doesn't go anywhere ...
are you clicking the Slow Speed button? This is the link I received 10 seconds ago that Still works fine.

it may not work when you click it.. but the link above works for me still...

I'm not about to waste my money on this...
I am using the slow speed link... it works fine for me.. try another web browser...
I've never paid for faster speeds before.
Wtf? I have to wait 7 days because I flashed new firmware?!

Correct me if im wrong but I do not think that ro.secure=1 is an issue, setting it to 1 just does not allow transitioning into root on the currant system. If the bootloader can be unlocked we can simple change that in the file to "0" and flash the modified rom to allow us to get root access. Can you take a look at my adb shell output and tell me if everything looks fine? OEM unlock is "1" so i am guessing i have to wait 7 days for it to apper, i flashed a gsi rom and then flashed back the stock system files including the bootloader(reset it).

[Q] Command to get name of ROM?
If you run the following command in a terminal: Code: uname -r you get the name of the kernel you're running. Is there a similar command for the ROM? uname doesn't return that information, only "GNU/Linux" or such. I'd like to use this information in conjunction with Tasker to do automatic Nandroid backups, and keep my backups organized. (yes, you can do scheduled nandroid backups with tasker WITHOUT rom manager premium!)
There's a lot you can get using `getprop'. It defaults to all properties. Here's a few that might be useful: Code: # getprop | grep -i "build\|name\|product" [ro.build.changelist]: [87995] [ro.build.id]: [GRI40] [ro.build.display.id]: [GRI40] [ro.build.version.incremental]: [87995] [ro.build.version.sdk]: [10] [ro.build.version.codename]: [REL] [ro.build.version.release]: [2.3.3] [ro.build.date]: [五 6月 17 20:31:51 CST 2011] [ro.build.date.utc]: [1308313911] [ro.build.type]: [user] [ro.build.user]: [] [ro.build.host]: [AA133] [ro.build.tags]: [release-keys] [ro.product.model]: [Desire HD] [ro.product.brand]: [htc_wwe] [ro.product.name]: [htc_ace] [ro.product.device]: [ace] [ro.product.board]: [spade] [ro.product.cpu.abi]: [armeabi-v7a] [ro.product.cpu.abi2]: [armeabi] [ro.product.manufacturer]: [HTC] [ro.product.locale.language]: [hdpi] [ro.product.locale.region]: [] [ro.build.product]: [ace] [ro.build.description]: [2.50.405.2 CL87995 release-keys] [ro.product.ua]: [] [ro.build.fingerprint]: [htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.3/GRI40/87995:user/release-keys] [ro.build.project]: [199042] [ro.product.version]: [2.50.405.2] [ro.product.processor]: [1GHz] [ro.product.ram]: [768MB] [ro.product.display_resolution]: [4.3 inch WVGA resolution] [ro.product.main_camera]: [8M] [ro.product.front_camera]: [NA] [ro.product.bluetooth]: [2.1 + EDR] [ro.product.wifi]: [802.11 b/g/n] [net.bt.name]: [Android] [hw.keyboards.262144.devname]: [spade-keypad-v0] [hw.keyboards.65537.devname]: [atmel-touchscreen] [hw.keyboards.65538.devname]: [projector-Keypad] [hw.keyboards.65540.devname]: [h2w headset] [net.hostname]: [android_7250e0ea53a639f5]

[HELP] .config options on a RK2918 kernel for Next8p
Hy guys, besides having experience with linus I'm quite new to android. Recently I got a Nextbook 8P and I should make it support USB ACM devices. I found the devmonkey ROM that worked all features of my tablet, excepts of course, the USB ACM support. So I started my journey, trying to find a good kernel source, compiling and flashing and testing. I've tried many kernel sources, wich includes: AN7BG3_AN7FG3_AN8G3_AN8CG3_GPL_release kepler2 android-kernel-mediacom-mp810c rockchip-kernel-rk2918 xteam31 Smartpad-810c-Kernel-3.0.8 Unfortunately I could never make a minimum working kernel with any of these kernels. The only thing that works is the kernel_308_next8p_nextbook release by Oma7144 whom havent the .config file. The farthest I could reach is the booting freezing in the second boot logo using the Smartpad-810c-Kernel-3.0.8 made by the italian x-team. All the other kernels dont have support for the rk29 m803hc or fails in the compiling process, or when I flash them the screen gets full of stripes. with this smartpad kernel I can see buttons of the kernel lighting up. There is a basic kernel .config file that I can use? Could I missing some important thing in the configuration of the kernel? Could be a miss matching between the ROM I'm using and the sources I've? There is a way to know which options should I enable in the .config? The only useful information about the working kernel and the device I'm using is this: Code: [ro.product.board]: [rk29sdk] [ro.product.brand]: [Android] [ro.product.cpu.abi2]: [armeabi] [ro.product.cpu.abi]: [armeabi-v7a] [ro.product.device]: [M803HC] [ro.product.locale.language]: [en] [ro.product.locale.region]: [US] [ro.product.manufacturer]: [Mediacom] [ro.product.model]: [SmartPad810c] [ro.product.name]: [M803HC] [ro.product.version]: [2.0.0] Linux version 3.0.8+ ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.4.0 (GCC) ) #23 PREEMPT Wed Feb 1 15:18:39 CST 2012 Someone could at least help me to make a working kernel?! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Does this supports OTG or not? Downloading this ROM now and eagerly waiting for the OTG support. Please clear me if someone checked it already.
Installed the ROM on my device but!!! santoshx99 said: Downloading this ROM now and eagerly waiting for the OTG support. Please clear me if someone checked it already. Click to expand... Click to collapse Dual SIM not working. As this is an initial release so it will take time to sort out the bugs. It may support OTG, not checked it yet. UI is very smooth. Still need to be checked about the RIL for network.

Finally working RIL!!! glad to see the next alpha version. Although, motorola announced the 5.1 update for moto e 2015 3g, 4g version. Still we need to wait for the OTA update but surprisingly, you have done a great job by debugging CM 5.1 ROM.
Everything is working fine. But System uses tow much ram approx 300 mb
After i restart my device the recent key not working. After wiping data it start to work but after another restart it stopped working.

Click to collapse I haven't encountered the recents button issue myself. Does pressing the button do nothing at all, or can you at least feel vibration when you press it? Could you give me a logcat of you pressing the button when it doesn't work? I don't want the full log, just the log for the few seconds during which you press the button. As for system memory usage, it looks normal to me.
It vibrates but nothing happen. I don't know how to get logcat can u guide me..?
Nirbhay2 said: It vibrates but nothing happen. I don't know how to get logcat can u guide me..? Click to expand... Click to collapse Are you running Linux, Windows, or Mac? Windows has an abysmal terminal that makes life harder, but the basic procedure is the same. Have you ever used ADB? You should look into setting that up first, there are countless tutorials out there for that. Once you have adb set up, you can view logcats in real time by opening up a shell and running: Code: adb logcat You will get a big chunk of logs at the start for the past log data that has accumulated in memory, and then the log messages will start scrolling by in real time. On non-Windows operating systems, I usually clear out all the console history after the inital burst pops up, do the action of interest, and then only save the logs for the action of interest by copy-pasting them out of the terminal and into a text editor. Unfortunately, on Windows, cmd.exe and even PowerShell are garbage, so the real time clear terminal and copy-paste the relevant parts approach doesn't work very well (due to limited scroll length, limited window width, awful copy-paste semantics, complete bungling of whitespace in copy-pastes etc.) On Windows, your best bet would be to dump the whole log to file and let me figure out what parts are relevant. Just start logcat, sending output to a file, then perform the action (pressing the recents key and having it fail), then press Ctrl-C to stop the logging when you're done. Code: adb logcat >my_log_file.txt
Here it is

Just flashed the stock rom. ---------- Post added at 04:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ---------- Can u give the flashing instructions..?
Nirbhay2 said: Can u give the flashing instructions..? Click to expand... Click to collapse For a clean install: Boot up my TWRP Go to Wipe->Advanced Wipe, select Dalvik Cache, System, Data, and Cache, then swipe to wipe Return to the TWRP home screen, go to Install, and add two zips to the queue: first my CM ROM, then the latest euroskank gapps Swipe to flash the two zips Reboot once flashing is complete (and be patient for the first boot, it takes a while) Not wiping everything correctly or installing the wrong gapps may cause issues. EDIT: I'll add these to the reserved second post on the main dev thread to avoid confusion among other potential users.
Installed as per your guide. But again the same problem
Nirbhay2 said: Installed as per your guide. But again the same problem Click to expand... Click to collapse I don't know what the cause is. I can't reproduce it, and I haven't had anyone else report it. I might be able to figure something out if you do a "real time" logcat and post what pops up (ie. run adb logcat, continuously showing output in your console, then press the recents button and copy/paste just the messages that show up when you do that).
Here are the logcat sir whenever i press the recent key. 1st is of stock rom 2nd is of before restart when it is working perfectly 3rd is after restart when it stopped working
I too noticed recents not working at all, steps to reproduce flash rom dont flash gapps recents works flash gapps, all works fine, recents works. reboot recents doesnt works, nothing works in gapps except play store, it gives "Google Services stopped forcefully", error somewhat like this, apps which use google signin like swift keyboard, gives "authentication failed error" even though google account is added all these issues are faced after a reboot, I have not used euroskank gapps, but the gapps mentioned in CM website link-> http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps#Downloads I will flash newer release with recommended gapps.

The ROM does play a click sound when you press the recents button. Maybe that has something to do with it. Did you use euroskank gapps when you reinstalled the ROM? I want to rule out gapps being the culprit.

Hi folks, In the properties accessible via ADB, in one place it says the CPU is an Exynos 7885 and in another it claims it is a 7904: Code: [ro.arch]: [exynos7885] [ro.board.platform]: [exynos5] [ro.boot.hardware]: [exynos7885] [ro.hardware]: [exynos7885] [ro.hardware.chipname]: [exynos7904] Are these the same part? The specs for these SoCs look nearly identical. Why is ro.hardware.chipname different from the rest?
