Android direct ethernet conection to device - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Say I have a device that has an ip and it's own web server to make changes to the system etc etc. Now on my laptop I simply set my static ip to something similar (same subnet) and open a web page, insert the address and voila.
Now... I have a s20 ultra and USB hub with Ethernet port. I plug directly in, but after turning on Ethernet on my phone, a few seconds later it turns off. Can I achieve a similar thing as I did with my pc?
Connecting the phone this way to my home network allows it to be turned on.
Thanks!

Turn Wi-Fi off. If this doesn't help additionally set phone to AirPlane mode.

Thanks for the suggestion. Still it seems to simply try and then revert to off

Tethering issues please help.

Ok so heres my dilemma. I figured I would test out tethering and see what my speeds are. So I connected my TP to my computer and selected the "Tethering" option when it showed up on my phone and thought, ok this should be easy. It connected to my computer, so i disabled my current wireless connection thinking my phones connection would automatically take over. But i was wrong, as a matter of fact nothing happened. When i checked my network settings, it told me i was connected with limited or no internet. Huh? Really? did i do something wrong? When you select tethering from the popup screen does it automatically run the Internet Sharing app?
So now i tried unplugging and replugging my phone back in and now that little popup screen doesnt even show up. Activesync doesnt connect, but i figured you couldnt run activesync and tethering at the same time. But now even worse is when i go to the Internet Sharing app and hit connect, it doesnt connect, it just says "Check usb Cable". As im doing all of this i have network connections up on my computer, watching to see if anything changes. So here i am in the internet sharing app and i hit connect, it says check usb cable, so i hit disconnect and right when i hit disconnect, it shows that im connected on my pc. ????? But even still when i try to surf the web it doesnt work. IDK what i/i'm did/doing wrong.
I like the popup screen when i connect my device to pc and would like to get that back if possible. Can someone please shed some light on 1.How to Tether 2. How to get the popup screen back (even though in all settings->connections->usb to pc->"ask about connection type when i connect" IS checked)
Tried a soft reset to see if that would change anything, but nothing changed.
Unplug your connections to your computer.
don't disable them.
If it is wireless, turn it off, don't disable.
I cannot share my connection while plugged into the network.

Lets break this down a little bit. First of all who is your carrier? Also, do you have the tethering option on your plan? (not that its completely necessary)
From there we can figure out the next step.
tethering
what about PDANET? I used it on my 6700.

Here you go. Install both cabs, reset the device, and go into Programs and start ICSShrUi. You'll be able to tether no problem. Ive been doing so I received my Verizon TP on Tuesday.

[Q] Wake on LAN wireless PC through internet by Android device

Hello,
I am searching for apps who can wake on LAN my wireless PC by using my HTC Legend device (through internet connection). Is this possible? What apps are currently the best in the market? Thanks a lot for your advise.
Rgds, Marvon
I'm normally using this one:
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.mafro.android.wakeonlan
and sometimes this one:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.benfinnigan.wol
But you have to check, that you can open UDP Port 9 on your Router on the Broadcast IP (x.x.x.255) and add a DynDNS Domain if you dont have a static IP.
If you have a FritzBox you cannot open that port that easily but there is a nice App for that:

Hi Fabi280,
thanks a lot for your reply. I am completely new to this. WOL is enabled in the bios but i cannot find the wol settings in my wireless WMP600N network card). Do you have a manual available how to set this up and let it work?
tchuss,
Marvon
The Solution is pretty simple.
There is no WOL with WLAN, actually there is but there aren't much devices that support that Technology. So lets say it just works with a LAN Cable plugged in.
A Device that has Wake On Lan enabled doesnt shut off the Network card, so its always connected, even if it is off (and its connected to power).
LAN doesnt consume that much power, as there is always power on the LAN Cable.
WLAN consumes much more power than LAN and is often used on Mobile Devices which are using Batteries
Hy, can anyone help me with this:
I have made my pc to wake and everything is working great, but after some time it stops working and I cannot wake my pc anymore... Anyone knows what is the problem? I tried to set up lease and everything and I do not know what is the problem...
In my android app I have:
ip address: 86.xx.xx.xx
mac addres: CB:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (from my pc)
and port: 9
in router I have pre-assigned DHCP IP Address (192.xxx.x.xx) to MAC address.
If I turn off my pc, I can turn on my pc with the app, but after some time it stops working...
any help please...

[Q] Tethering issue

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I've searched and couldn't find anything that matches what I'm after.
I have a GNex running custom 4.2.2 and Windows 7 x64.
I want to be able to access my phone from my PC. To do this, I installed AirDroid. All good so far.
Issue 1: Using WiFi to access the phone, it doesn't do anything when the screen is off/the device is locked. Annoying.
Issue 2: Using USB tethering, it works fine when the screen is off, but kills my PC's internet access. Also annoying.
I would like to use USB tethering if possible, but I only want to be able to access my phone via AirDroid, not use it for internet (my PC has a much better wired connection already).
More on issue 2: Windows says the DNS server is unavailable when I troubleshoot. The moment I plug in my phone and the NDIS-thingy connection is formed, I lose internet access via my normal connection. It goes back to normal as soon as I unplug it. I've tried changing the priority of the network devices, but to no avail.
Any help appreciated.
Solved my own problem.
To those who are curious:
Under network settings for the USB tether, set DNS server addresses manually, go into advanced settings, and set the default gateway to whatever your router's address is.

[Q] Automatically connect to VPN on Device Startup

Hello XDA,
I have an android device: it's a stick connected to my TV, running android 4.1 rooted. The stick is an MK808B, if that means anything to anyone here. The stick is connected to my TV's USB so that when I turn the TV on, the stick boots and when I turn the TV off, it shuts down completely.
I am looking for something that automatically connect the stick to VPN when I boot it. I would preferably use VPN over L2DP, although I'll take PPTP if there's no other option. I can't use openVPN because my ROM's kernel doesn't have TUN. There are two ways to approach this: one way is to connect it on boot, another way is to connect to VPN when the stick connects to a wireless network because my stick is stationary and always connects to the same wi-fi network.
Any ideas on how to get this done? Thanks all!
Sorry for bumping, but does anyone have any ideas?

[Q] Xperia WiFi PC connection for file transfer & Stamina mode.

Hello,
I'm wondering if someone know if its possible to exclude the Xperia WiFi (USB) connection from the stamina mode by adding an app in the exceptions. I don't seem to find the correct app.
Right now, when I'm connected wirelesssly to the computer and the screen turns off, the transfer hangs until I turn the screen on again. Adding the appropriate exception will solve that problem I suppose.
Thanks in advance.
i have the same problem
any ideas?

So you mean, you need to have the Stamina Mode on while your computer is connected to PC via USB, is that right?
Why would you need Stamina Mode then? Because your phone would be charging at the same time...
Hello. No I need the WiFi service that manages the connection. The phone has the ability to connect to the computer wirelessly as it would be connected through cable but it seemed stamina mode didnt like this. However after some search i noticed this was a pc companion/Windows/driver glitch so after pairing it again it seemed it fixed the issue. Thanks anyway.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah I Have the same issue, tried MTP Extension Service (seemed to me the most logical of all processes there) and still when the screen goes off it cuts the connection.
