Having this weird issue with smart select with S pen and text extraction.
Imagine having this long-ish article with 15 paragraphs. For example, if i wanted to extract something from paragraphs 5-6, I went to smart select the 2 paragraphs, and after i click extract text, the text that came out wasnt from paragraphs 5 - 6, but from say, 2 - 3 (always a few paragraphs before).
Weirdly, this happens mostly on Chrome, but not other apps like Google Books or Keep or even photos of texts.
Raised this with support but didnt get any satisfactory response. Anyone with the same issue and suggested workaround?

I find it crazy that SMS-Chat seems to be the only program for Windows Mobile that combines touch-friendly scrolling with threaded messaging.
I have a Palm Treo Pro and in order to see the text I type, I have to hit enter, and then backspace, and then I can start typing.
My question: Is there an alternative to this? I would use the regular sms built into WM6 but in order to scroll up and down, I have to use the tiny scroll bar on the right instead of being able to scroll by touching and pulling the middle of the screen.
Yes, I've googled the crap out of this so I come to you guys seeing if anyone has a diamond in the dirt.

Thanks a lot for the link!
My only problem with this program is it doesn't show you the full content of each text from one person in a thread, and it doesn't default to the last text sent, it starts at the top which is a problem for a thread with many texts. I like it though, and hope to see improvements in the final versions.
MKH SMS (beta version and unstable)
Requirements: wm5+ compact framework 2+
it said "MKH software MKH SMS" cannot be installed. To try installing to a different location, chose a location" but it fails for SD card and phone memory. Weird.
Bump if anyone knows a good sms program. Like I said, it seems there is a problem on Palm Treo Pro's where the text won't show up when you type to a person unless you hit enter, then backspace. It's a hassle to do every time I send a text. Is there any program like this?
I hear certain ROMS will fix this issue but i'm not too savvy on roms..
Have you tried 'Pocket Contact Manager'
A bit old, but works ok on my 'old' device, displaying contacts but also SMS in a threaded way...
http://www.pocketcm.com/
And... ho... It's freeware !
I am looking for one myself for a long time and could found nothing.
1. SMS Chat - has lots of bugs, with an inbox with 50 or more messages, it freezes all the times. Contact with developer, no response
2. Slide2Send - slow as hell, missing lots of features
3. MKH SMS - very buggy, trying to scroll thru the messages is a pain
4. PocketCM - not really a replacement as you have to open a contact to see the list of SMS
5. Samsung SilverInBox - so buggy that even samsung have hidden it on the ROM
Can't find a good (or even resonable) message app that is finger friendly.
Tried another one, SMS at Hand, one of the ugliest interface (and confusing) I have ever seen.
If you wanna try MKH SMS, use this installer, it will work (removed Russian lang file, problem with cyrillic chars on the file name).
BTW, MKH SMS seem to be the only one still in development, you might try to contact the developer at http://www.mkh-soft.com/mkh-sms.aspx (it is in Russian).
Just a quick tip, if you tap on the top bar (middle), you will get some popups, like Settings (if you are at the folder list view), Delete SMS (if you are reading one), ...
I wish I knew coding. It's just kinda annoying I have to hit enter, then backspace just to see the text i'm typing in SMS-Chat. I love the program, but this is a pain. Even on their website help it suggests doing that...for a paid program.
no others?
I am using SMS at Hand. never can get it right. I do not want to be the default sms handler.
just like other sms program, no support for sending sms, u will only see the beautiful skin when scrolling the messages.
At the moment you click send new message it will go into the ugly ms default.
I am sticking with MKH SMS for now. Developer seen willing to move it forward, been talking with him about problems, suggestions and new translations. Version 1.2 seem very promissing.
Btw, it replaces the send sms with a graphical touch based one, you should try it.
there is 1.2?
Version 1.2 is still in development, but looks promising.
Hopefully easily skinnable as well!
Yes. The skin is a file with an extension of *.th, but that is only a zip file with some images a config (text) file. It comes with an iphone like skin. Would be nice to have at least two more, a manila and a diamond.
Translate is also easy, it is a text file (I have done one to Brazilian Portuguese).

Click to collapse
can we try it?
Just tried MKH on my HD Mini and it works just fine. also seems to take only half the memory of HTC Messages.
Does anyone else encounter similar problems with Quick Office's new update which allow us to type documents?
After the update, I have been using the word document function to a good extent but the app seems to be really buggy! The application will crash out of nowhere quite frequently and sometimes when I try to save my file, it'll say that it is saving and hangs there, and it didn't save.
As much as this is a highly anticipated update, its ridiculously halfbaked and just plain annoying to use. Would like to know if I'm just an isolated case or is this a common problem,
thanks =).
I've found it to be buggy as well, and I've only written one document with it. When I saved it it removed all the formatting including line breaks. All of a sudden my nicely laid out page with headings turned into one oversized paragraph in plain text
Fortunately I had copied the whole thing to the clipboard because I wanted to test something. So I deleted all the text, pasted, hit save and it crashed.
I then closed that document and opened a new one. Pasted the text, hit save, and it removed all the formatting again!
I tried a few more times, but every time it either crashed or removed the formatting *sigh*
I uninstalled and reinstalled Quick Office after that, but haven't tested it again. If it glitches again I'm just going to consider it useless.
Hows the ubuntu word processor? Is it any better? Have anyone tried it? Think i'm going to run Chroot ubuntu just to try it out..
I've been looking for the best app to take notes during class. It feels crazy that there's no Auto-Save in quick office.
One bug I've found to make it crash, when using the HP Bluetooth slim keyboard (if relevant) is, if I highlight a word, and type over it, it crashes. I lost like half my notes doing this. Now I just hit save every minute or two... and wish there was a keyboard (control s?) shortcut to do that.
I've also been trying Typewriter Beta... I really just want a Notepad esque text editor.. don't care about formatting really.
Fwiw, tapnote is the current winner. Least buggy of the ones I've tried.
. . NS4G . . CM7 . .
I found it to be generally useless as well. I just decided to use google docs (through the browser) for all of my notes. May try the office 2010 web suite as well.
Edit: Gdocs is working fantastically BTW, the only reason that I am considering using office is curiosity. Additionally, I have an app on my phone called camscanner so that if there are any handwritten notes, I can scan them with my phone (works surprisingly well), and share to Gdocs, and tie them to the typed notes I have taken.
I had the same issue. I tried to use it last week to take notes at a conference and it would lock up quite frequently saving to local storage. It happened often enough that I switched over to the built-in notepad app. I think I'm going to stick with that or perhaps even the email client for now with the hope/anticipation that when Android is on this puppy, I'll have significantly more options.
It seems like Polaris just corrupts any documents (unable to be read by Polaris, only by Microsoft Word 2010) it saves if the document was created by an old Microsoft Word. So whenever I download one of my professors documents, I have to save it in Microsoft 2010 or Open Office first which is a real hassle.
Just wondering if anyone has this problem and if they have an Android based solution since I don't like having to use a PC to resave the document when I have class in 5 minutes.
I've noticed that Polaris will put data in the wrong field on excel docs. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. When I first opened up a complex excel doc, there were several fields that had error type messages in the box. After looking through the file, and others like it, I noticed that in several places there would be data that was supposed to be in, say column B, that was in column C rather sporadically... like maybe once for every 20 correct entries in column C. It was only noticeable because data from column B was text while data that was supposed to be in column C was numbers for calculations which lead to errors in the rest of the document.
I posted another thread asking what others were using for office docs since I no longer trust polaris but didn't get a response.
Polaris Office has had corruption issues of one sort or another since the OG TF101 AFAIK. Never read the forum thread on it in too much detail.

Hello all. I have what should be a fairly simple task, and some Googling has brought up some options... but this is one of those situations where I don't just need to get the job done, I need to get it done well; so I'm hoping someone else will previously have done the same thing and can tell me what the most elegant solution is!
The short version is that I need to be able to extract one specific conversation from the stored text messages on an Android phone, transfer it to a PC, and then convert it into some format that is easily and comfortably readable on a PC.
The background to this is that my girlfriend had kept all of the text messages she had previously received from me; but a couple of weeks ago a rather unpleasant gentleman kicked my front door in (while she and I were both in my house), demanded money, and made off with my wallet and shoulder bag, and my girlfriend's handbag, which contained her phone. A bit scary as you can imagine.... We're both okay, but my girlfriend was a little sad to lose all the messages I'd sent her.
As it happens, I generally keep long-term copies of the texts that I send and receive (not for sentimental reasons, I'm just a bit of a hoarder when it comes to data!) so I've probably still got copies of all of those messages somewhere (my phone didn't get stolen), and I'd like to extract them and give them to her as one of a set of birthday gifts.
Potential complications:
1) I need to extract both sides of the conversation (my messages to her and hers to me) into a single file.
2) I need not to extract messages to or from anyone else.
3) Sometimes a number may be in 07... format while other times it may be in +447... format.
4) Girlfriend changed phone number at one point.
5) Messages will be split between my old phone (a Samsung Galaxy S2 which can still connect to wifi or a USB cable, but has no actual phone service any more) and my new one (HTC One).
6) The end result needs to be a single file with everything in chronological order.
7) Girlfriend is extremely non-technical; so the end product has to be something that can be loaded and viewed on a laptop by launching just one file, and it has to be nicely laid out and easily readable when you're viewing it.
Suggestions?
In case anyone ever stumbles across this thread and wants to know what solution I eventually came up with... I used two different apps in the end. The first was "SMS Backup & Restore". I installed that on both phones. On the old phone, that allowed me to back up all the SMS messages (regardless of sender) into a single XML file. Transferring that file onto my new phone and restoring it with the same app copied all the messages onto my new phone.
I then used a separate app called "Conversation Backup" which extracts all messages sent to or from a specified contact (any of the numbers stored against that contact). It creates a zip file which can be emailed; within the zip is an HTML file and some supporting javascript which can be read in a web browser on a PC. It's not exactly elegant, but it's certainly human-readable.
Browsing is crucial for mobile devices-how did they get it so wrong?
I've had the Samsung Galaxy S3 for about 2 months and its been great otherwise
These examples are using the stock browser (but the issues have occurred in all browsers I've tried).
1. Copy/pasting is very poor. Often I can select all the text expcept the first letter. Often you cant "see"what your copying. Where's the undo button!?
2. Scrolling sites is terrible-I'm always clicking links by mistake.*
3. Scrolling blurs so much when scrolling-not smooth at all.*
4. I'm constantly clicking the soft keys by mistake-like when stretching my hand to switch tabs etc.
5. Often I have to double or triple click links to get a response.*
6. Despite placing the cursor somewhere on the site, often my writing frustratingly ends up else where. Also happens when copy/paste-always pastes at the top of my text (not where the cursor is).
Do these things bother anyone else or am I doing something wrong? I hate to admit it but I'm considering iOS...
Dude, sounds like you have 4 years old device, what you are describing is definitely not s3.
Browsing experience for me is almost exactly as of s4 or my 1 year old PC .
PC 10/10
S4 9.5/10
S3 9/10
Solution, Apple. Clearly from your posts you lack the geekness to operate such leading edge technology or your phone is faulty...

Strangely my uncle, who is an alcoholic, has very similar problems when he hasn't had a drink for a while.
It took us ages trawling around XDA before a chance meeting with a doctor led us to realise he was, in fact, suffering from delirium tremens.
Boy did we feel stupid.
Taken from Viz letter page.
Haha yes-didn't mean to rant on so much.
I think a lot of it can be associated with the stock browser. So I'll use Chrome for now.
However, where is the 'undo' typing feature? And is there any mod to use a quick toggle (or something) to disable the soft keys? Thx

First thing I suggest is install clipper+
Great clipboard utility, sits on status bar, apparatus available, you can store clippings/paragraphs, edit them, see immediately what you have copied etc
Also for copying links it pays to zoom in,, however you could try dolphin browser with jetpack html add on, then if you click on 2 adjacent links it will show the little magnifier window with both links or buttons
