I am running stock Android 7.1.1 on a Moto Z Play.
Recently I noticed that popup dialogs from apps running in the background or also in the foreground don't show automatically any more.
So, e.g. I have the apps Reminder with Alarm and Automate. "Reminder with Alarm" has an option to show reminders as full-screen alarms with sound and Automate allows me to create widgets that, when pressed, should show a popup with a selection. Both apps have the "Draw over other apps" permission enabled. What happens instead of the popups being shown is that I only get a notification and when I press that notification the popup is shown.
I tried reinstalling these apps and also all other apps that reasonably could influence that behaviour. How can I further debug what is prohibiting those popups being shown?

I am looking for an Android setting or a 3rd party app to delay notifications from appearing for only certain apps. For example, I don't want to see any notifications from Facebook or Whatsapp while I am at work. I do want other notifications to come through like normal; I just want Facebook or whatsapp notifications to be held and only appear later when I am no longer at work.
Ideally this would be done automatically based on time, GPS location, or both. Alternatively, "notification delay mode" could be toggled manually, for example, by pressing a widget.
Is this possible?
I tried using the sleep mode widget in Light Flow, checking "exclude from sleep mode" for apps whose notifications I want to see, and leaving the box unchecked for Facebook and WhatsApp. Notifications for all apps continued to come through even with sleep mode enabled, so that didn't work.
I just installed the Android O beta 4 OTA update onto my Google Pixel. This Android version has a persistent tray notification for background running apps - in my case it's the Network Mini Monitor Pro app, which I *want* to have running in the background, and so I'd like to disable the background running notification for this app, but I haven't found any way to do it. Can it be done, so that I don't have this unwanted notification sitting in the tray all the time.
Would like to know that as well, for me it's WhatsApp.
Well I've found I can get rid of the system tray icon, though the notification is still there when you pull down. But I'm reasonably happy that the icon isn't there all the time. To get rid of it:
Pull down and long press on the "Apps running in the background" notification
Tap on "All Categories"
Scroll down to "Apps running in background" and tap to the left of the vertical bar
Tap on "Importance" and change it to "Low"
The system tray icon should now be gone.
Hi, is there a way to whitelist Spotify so it doesn't close automatically a moment after i pause the music. I actually searched and found that you have to add Spotify to the "Unmonitored apps" in "Device maintenance" (settings) but i did that (as you can see here https://imgur.com/a/GoYT7PK) and it still shuts down when i press "Optimize now". I also downloaded Tasker.apk but didn't know how to do disable spotify from autoclosing. I'm asking this because my Spotify widget on the homescreen only works when the little notification (the circle with lines) is on the notification screen. Any workaround ? Thanks !!
My phone seems to have issues with running and updating apps in the background. Stock apps like phone and messages work as they should and badges are displayed right away. All other apps have to be opened and closed in order for the icon badge to appear. I do get all notifications in the notification panel but no badges. Also some music streaming apps stop working when screen goes off unless I exit the app via "Back" button instead of "home"
Running latest Pie 965U1 on 965U Verizon phone
Build # G965U1UES3CSAA
All notification settings checked in multiple locations
Reboot and clearing cash doesn't help
Different power modes and disabling optimization don't help

The last thing I can try is to reinstall a different region firmware?
Any advice is greatly appreciated
Hey Pepz,
I got an Pixel 2 XL with Android Pie on it and I want to reset all my apps notification settings. So what I ultimately want to do is change every apps settings to the same thing basically.
Show notifications: "ON"
Behaviour: "Make sound and pop up on screen"
On lock screen: "Show all notification content"
Sound: "Default notification sound"
Vibrate: "ON"
Blink light: "ON"
and so on...
There doesn't seem to be a way to default every app to have my desired settings (so a global change of the notification default), or is there? Does anyone know an app that can do this?
My goal is to have every app, system apps included, to do the same thing and afterwards change just some single apps to do something else.
So in short: Ignore the default a developer choose for me and override the whole notification settings everywhere to my taste.
(Otherwise I got to change 200+ apps manually and apps like Facebook, Snapchat or Tinder tend to have alot of subcategories so that would take days really )
