Hello, I have bought TV Box from China,
Model Vontar X3 Amlogic S905SX3 4GB/64GB Android 9.0.
I have a few problems with this TV Box:
1. I cant install any apps from Google Play Store. I dont know why...
2. There is problem with overheating.
3. Software installed in tv box comes from 2018 year. There is newer version on local disc. Should I update to new version?
I hope that someone help me
Regards
Hi, you may need to update google play services and the play store, you can find the apks on apk mirror,
What are your overheating symptoms and temps?
Where did you obtain this updated firmware, issue being sometimes these devices are clones and dont work properly so there is always a small risk when installing a firmware, I would reccomend using a usb A male to male cable & usb burning tool and read about Mask Rom Mode as this makes these devices recoverable from a bad firmware or flash, means you can try custom roms for S905X3 too, often the aweful factory firmware is aweful, I have my own android 6 s905x box running the official Android 9 Mi Box Firmware (with my modifications) and it makes these devices very usable, performs like a proper mi box, no lags ect, point is firmware can make a world of a diffrence

As my threads, topics etc here are unreachable for the moment (due to the forum changes) please go here to see about the playstore problem (Note2 of 1st page): https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/tv...-transpeed-x3-air-bqeel-y8-max-amlogic-s905x3
For the overheating just place your box above a USB fan base. That is what I use for all my TVboxes and I get a temperature 10-15 degrees Celcius lower, which is more than enough. You can make it by yourself or buy a ready made.
Installing also a custom rom will give you "another" box (meaning with more capabilities).
Have a look at my custom rom, especially if you need a preinstalled Magisk and TWRP.

Hello, I ve found solution for overheating problem: Its Vontar C1 cooler. I get a temperature 20-25 degrees lower. It should be enough.
How to update google play services and play store in Vontar X3?
I can make update here: Settings -> System Update. I have XR1.180610.011_release_keys(20200822_0033). X - I dont know what sign is before R.
And there is another problem: some channels in smart TV are in 16:9 forrmat. In Vontar the same channels are in 4:3 format.
And frame is cut on the left and right. So for example, number 123 - I see only 23. Just like XR1.

Probably you didn't read my note 2.
Install the latest app of Playstore from apkpure https://m.apkpure.com/google-play-store/com.android.vending
Reboot and try again.
Also try in addition this : Playstore-Settings-version number and click upon the version number 7-8 times. You will become a developer and probably get even newer updates.
You may have to reboot again and click once more upon the version number!!!!
As far as your mother I have ginen one to my mother (she is 87 years old !!). Having Launcher Square Home she is happy/and easy to use !!!

First of all look at Settings-Device Preferences-Screen and look/change what it is in "Screen Resolution" "Screen Position" (you can make smaller/larger the image shown).
Also you may have to alter something in your TV preferences.

Hello, I think that you must update your play store, it happens a lot when Chinese dud taps a standard google android system. It's outdated and reconfigured for first use. Chinese craps. One thing you need to do is update play store as a .apk . Download it on your PC and put in SD CARD or direct with USB cable and transfer and install in device. Restart system and you should have a updated play store and no limitations.
I know this is a month old topic but maybe it will help others.

Or not as all I want to do for now is play youtube vids , read manga/comics and stream anime mks from my server ? Can I do all this without rooting ?
Well if you've turned it on and connected to Wi-Fi you're most likely already screwed if you wanted to root. If you haven't I would suggest it if you don't care about prime services...I had my HDX set up to look almost aosp with the now launcher and all of google services running including the store...then the update put me back to this ****ty combo of android and fire os
Sent from my KFAPWI using Tapatalk
I have not turned it on yet and will not for a day or two to research this.So you suggest I should root it ?
I would suggest rooting if you fit the following:
- You feel comfortable rooting your device knowing that you are able to brick your device. You understand the risk
(I personally think it happens when low on battery power cuts the process off since it gets mentioned a lot, or installing the tools needed in a incorrect order could put you in a "boot loop" from what I've heard/read. Correct me guys if I'm wrong. Or confirm that's right. Or add to the small list from experience with bricking if you want. I have not bricked my two devices myself and rooted Android devices before using other dev tools).
- You want to customize your tablet into a hybrid of both Amazon OS/ with Android launcher.
- You prefer having access to paid apps on the Google Play store since you can not side-load paid Google apps (from PC to Kindle using USB). Personally I found that video games run smoothly on the paid emulators I bought so far from the Google Play store.
- If you truly haven't been updated yet.
To check: When you go to Settings / Device / System Updates and it says Current Version is 14.3.1.0_user_... (also heads up, don't connect to the internet. The update for 14.3.2.1 will download automatically and when it's done it will install by itself. I own a Kindle Fire HDX 7" with 13.3.1.0 on it but they are pretty much the same thing except for a few things designed specifically for that device being their different code and/or addresses I would assume)
- You've rooted a Android device before. That way you feel more comfortable.
Your 3 concerns you've told us: You can watch YouTube through Amazon's OS only using their web browser called Silk. If your comics are PDF then you can view those without rooting as well. I never used mks files if that's what you're referring to so I can't help you there. Other than that, that's all the info I think you need other than the process it takes to actually root the device.
Hope I helped explain clearly.

H0B0onDRUGS2 provided some sound advices regarding rooting for you...
However, I watch YouTube and streamed video files from my PCs on my non-rooted and updated KFHDX7. Even though I don't do it, but I'm fairly sure you can read comics too without root. What file formats are they?
I've never rooted as i actually like fire os. My lgg2 satisfies my need to root, mod, flash. etc.
As far as YouTube goes tubemate, available from the Amazon store, works well for me however I'll probably sideload og youtube at some stage. Don't know about comics or anime.
LgG2 d802 running Sotmax V5 ROM
Looks like I will root it as I dont mind getting my hands dirty and I dont like closed eco systems like apple/amazon ,only reason I got was I got it dirt cheap
PS the manga are i think cbr/cbz and mostly in rar/tar containers full of png's.
Hi everyone. Quick question, is there an easy way to make a app that is unavailable for my model work? I have a Minix X7 android tv box and would like to access the SKyGO tv app on it. I think is is running android 4.4.2 from memory. The SKygo app at this stage looks to only be available for a handful of common devices in my country (NZ). I do notice however that it has recently worked on my Teclast X98 Air 3g with 4.4.4. OK.
The X7 is spoofed a a nexus 10 or something ( from when I flashed a rom a while back)
Thanks in advance for any ideas
I tried editing the build prop
With a couple of supported models and now the app comes up in Google play but shows as incompatible. Strange how the app is working on my teclast x98 air tablet when it's not meant to be compatible. Must be something else the sky go app looks for to be compatible.
In case the official app from the Play Store is marked as "unavailable" for your device, you can search for the apk-version, which is available for all devices. You can use this link for example to download it.
One note: this linked version is the German version, not sure, if you can change the language to whatever you want. If not, search for the apk for your country.
Anyone have a working app for the Shield as of yet for Apple TV +?
Cheers
Apple TV+ 1.2 apk works but when you go to sign in it requires something from the Fire TV firmware to complete.
I tried it but it doesn't work.
None work right now... seems most are counting on the release of Sony's APK for it to work.

you can use browser then cast it to nstv or open tv.apple.com in a browser
Sorry for a stupid question and please don't link anything here if it violates any rules:
Where do people find a legit version of the APK?
Thinking about trying this on my Philips Android-TV and if that fails on my Odroid-C4 running Android.
Don't know how kinky sideloading an app is usually i.e. trying the APK for Shield / FireTV wouldn't work on either my TV (pref.) or "HTPC"?
Sorry for hijacking a bit, will do a separate thread if it is required (and allowed).

personally i dont have time to teach the basics on adb sideloading an app.. it should work on shield easily if ur connected to it properly and running the right commands in adb..
theres thousands of guides online about adb and adb install.. the apple tv+ app doesnt work on nstv however at this time so even sideloading the app will not work.. the only method ive used is to use web browser then go to tv.apple.com and play the videos through the web browser

I think you might have misunderstood what I was getting at;
I know how to sideload an app but it was just a general question on how kinky an app developed for a certain device (ex. FireTV / Shield) can be on another device (Philips implementation of Android-TV) etc. since they both are running Android.
My TV running Android-TV hasn't implemented something called "Android Mode Setting API" for instance and that caused some issues with an app (according to the devs).
So I can totally get that even through having the same platform - Android - different hardware can treat it differently depending on different hardware specs or implementations of Android.
However the question as where to find a reputable source of the APK remains, just googling it reveals a lot of different download locations where a lot seems really...sketchy.

LG 2018 model TVs just got an update that gives them Apple TV app, so may be there is hope for Android TV devices
LG rolls out Apple TV app for select 2018 smart TVs:
https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/08/20/lg-rolls-out-apple-tv-app-for-select-2018-smart-tvs
Any updates to this? i was about to start a new thread, when i came across this.
I got a free year of Apple TV+ with my iPhone 11 Pro Max for work, and just recently switched from Roku to the Chromecast with Google TV.
My fiancé got into one of the shows and i'd like to sideload the APK, if possible, if there's one that works.
Well, there is strictly Android TV version now (it was released with software update for some Sony TVs), but it also fails to work on other devices (says software update is required) - Source.
Anyone using one of these? There seem to be several similar models sold (at least in the USA) but it seems like everyone here is using either IPTV-only boxes, or boxes with DVB tuners.
The Cyberbox has a p231 board with an S905D SoC, 2GB RAM, & 16GB ROM, and it runs Android 7.1.2. The box comes with root access as a developer option, making it easy to mod (but also a bit dangerous). One slightly worrisome issue is that the Cyberbox doesn't seem to come with a reset button behind the composite A/V port or anywhere else, so there's no easy way to boot a recovery image if you brick it. It does seem possible to install a micro SD card and a reset switch if you're good at soldering tiny SMC components (which I'm not). Luckily I haven't bricked mine (so far).
I don't know much about the Leelbox Q5 but I've heard it's similar. I've seen threads here on the earlier Leelbox models (Q4 and less) but nothing on the Q5 yet
The MagicSee 300 also seems to be a very similar box, but it has a DVB tuner for FTA satellite and European/Australian OTA broadcasts instead of an ATSC tuner.
With respect to the iView Cyberbox specifically, I've done a little work fixing it up. Mostly minor stuff: improving the look of the launcher (a version of DroidLogic's MBoxLauncher), fixing iView's slightly screwed-up boot animation, installing TWRP recovery (got lucky; the S905X/S912 version 3.2.1 of TWRP works fine except that compression doesn't seem to work during backups) and Magisk (to get some control over root access).
I do have some questions for the more knowledgeable members about my Cyberbox:
My Cyberbox came with Chrome version 66. But try as I might, I couldn't update it! Play Store would download the latest version but it would fail to install. Every time. I ended up just deleting Chrome from /system/app entirely and installing it as a user app! So now I'm up to date, but does anyone have an idea why it wouldn't update normally like most system apps?
Play Store says the Firefox browser is incompatible with my Cyberbox. So I installed an old version (52, which I downloaded for my old pre-NEON Samsung Captivate Glide). Version 52 installed and seems to run fine, but why is the latest version incompatible? Doesn't the S905D support NEON instructions? Edit: AIDA64 says it does support NEON so that isn't what makes newer FF versions incompatible.
This third question isn't specific to the Cyberbox. I've seen lots of folks asking about this issue with their own boxes, so it's evidently a common feature of many of these TV boxes. The system always starts the Mbox Launcher, even if you install a different launcher and make it the default. I realize I could just replace /system/app/MboxLauncher/MboxLauncher.apk with my favorite launcher's .apk, but why do I have to? Why can't I just set my default launcher as I do on a phone? Clearly the MboxLauncher app must be hard-coded in the system somewhere, but where?
Wallpaper does not work at all on this box. The Mbox Launcher has a built-in background, but without wallpaper, any other launcher displays with a solid black background. But any attempt to set wallpaper either crashes or just doesn't do anything. There is a default wallpaper (/etc/default_wallpaper.png) but it never appears anywhere and can't be selected as the wallpaper either. Anyone have an idea why this might be?
Possibly related to the wallpaper issue, there's no status bar or navigation bar. Anywhere.
Hi all,
WorldMax TV 4K is a popular Asian IPTV set top box which was originally sold and advertised as a one-time lifetime activation purchase of $300. Customers who had purchased the device have recently found that the company have now without notice changed their policy and have force updated all devices requiring everyone who has had the device for more than 2 years to pay an additional $120 per year to continue using it. This is both illegal and unethical business practice in most countries.
You can read the hundreds of negative reviews here where people are expressing their anger:
https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/worldmax-tv
It looks like several customers are trying to take legal action - however it is doubtful that anything will actually happen as the company is headquartered overseas.
Unfortunately I fall into the category of customers who are in this situation and am the not so happy owner of a now useless set top box which has locked us out from use of any apps - by means of a popup that demands we enter a renewal code. I'm not prepared to pay $120/year to continue using it as this is not what I purchased.
With my basic knowledge of the Android architecture and having played with alternative custom ROMs - I'm taking to the forum boards in hope of finding a solution to bring life back to this box. Hopefully the solutions we come up with here can benefit many in this situation.
Here is what I've gathered:
- The box uses a custom 'Worldmax TV Launcher'.
- The box appears to have a box ID embedded which is linked to a registration date. The launcher locks out when the registration date is older than 2 years.
- By setting the clock back under time and date, I'm able to continue using the device momentarily - before it syncs the time again. Even after turning off 'automatically sync time and date', the device syncs automatically when trying to set it to a historic date.
- I have access to Android Settings, but nothing else if I do not renew the subscription.
- After carrying out a Factory Data Reset and then skipping the initial setup, I'm able to setup WiFI and enter the Playstore before the activation check takes place.
- I was able to extract the following Build.prop and CPU info:

Has anyone found a work around to bypass the renewal? Could the launcher potentially be modified to bypass the check?
I have found this thread which mentions that Aidan's Custom ROM for S905X worked through means of flashing via the SD card method. Although this would mean we lose the use of Worldmax TV streaming features. Link to ROMs: https://bit.ly/aidansroms905x
What other ROMs are recommended as an alternative to the above?
I'm aware there are a few alternative options for streaming Asian IPTV (for example - loading a custom ROM and then installing an app like LiveNetTV or Mobdro). Does anyone have any other recommendations in this space?
Update: Managed to root the device using Ezroot for all S95 devices by Finless on Freaktab.
Downloaded AF+ Firewall to block ntp servers from auto syncing the time. This has allowed me to use the device freely without locking out by setting the time to a date prior to the expiry date - although Worldmax apps fail to work as they report 'Could not validate box' when opening them.
This is still not a perfect solution. I'm looking at what alternative firmware options I have available to me other than Aidan's Custom ROM mentioned above.

i always recommend staying away from "Lifetime Services" but im impressed your box is still alive, often the boxes are so badly made a year is the expected lifetime of some
this looks like an s905x based device judging from the build.prop
you could try my custom Android TV 9 rom for s905x devices, there also a android tv 7 version to try too, check them out here

i always recommend staying away from "Lifetime Services" but im impressed your box is still alive, often the boxes are so badly made a year is the expected lifetime of some
this looks like an s905x based device judging from the build.prop
you could try my custom Android TV 9 rom for s905x devices, there also a android tv 7 version to try too, check them out here

Thanks aidanmacgregor.
Your custom roms will definitely be the go-to if I'm not able to figure out how to get the box going otherwise.
@shakti_nz Did you have any luck with this?
Any update on cracking this box?

I've managed to root the box and get access to using all the applications as per my above post. I wasn't able to find a work around to the Worldmax app however.

Hey @shakti_nz , I myself have had this problem now and I've been trying to get around the timing issue to no avail. And yes I don't want to pay anything extra as I paid for a lifetime $300 for the box so I should get exactly that. Looks like you've made a much more decent effort.
Would love to hear any breakthroughs you've had on this.
Question: when you say you got access using all the applications but unable to get a work around the worldmax app do you mean that the live, movies and vod options don't work?
I decided to take the plunge and install AidansRom V8 based on Android TV 9 and it works well. I can just go and install whatever apps I'd like to. Only thing is that the remote that comes with the box doesn't work anymore but I've heard that a Bluetooth Airmouse would work splendidly so have ordered one. For the time being, I'm using a wireless keyboard and mouse and it works well.

Can you assist by providing a step by step guide on how to install AidansRom V8 on this worldmax box? I could make use on my box as an Android box.
Thanks
RS
Follow the instructions here:
Aidans Rom
Pro tip:
When you plug the USB A to USB A cable, plug it in the port closest to the back of the device.

@shakti_nz
Would you able to share the process as I was trying to root by this process but the link for download wasn't available and some are discussing about unplug the device wait for few seconds and then go to boot mode.?
Can you please enlighten bit more.
Much Appreciated

Hi rondo257, totally agree with your point. Unfortunately I didn't have much luck with being able to access the Worldmax apps (live, movies, vod etc) but was able to get the device working for use as an android box by rooting and then using a firewall to block it from talking back to the mothership.
My suggestion to you is actually to use one of the Aidan custom roms as opposed to going down the route I did. Why? It's much simpler to install the rom and this will convert your box into a usable android box. Please note, this process is irreversible - so step forward with caution.

I'm not sure where else you may be able to find the file sorry - I no longer have it.
I managed to root my box by using a 32GB SD Card (64GB didn't work) and copying only the ezroot.zip file onto it. You can then go to the update screen under Worldmax box settings and do a local upgrade via SD card. I had to delete the two other files as otherwise the local update method would result in freezing on the boot screen.
Thank you for response.
Do you come across with alternative way to root the box ?
I have tried to find but at the end everyone is navigating to Finless post.
Anyone can help me to root the Worldmax tv to copy all root directory file and built in apps to create other rom and use worldmax tv features.
I tried to install many of that apps on other box but they didn't installed. Because I think some of the worldmax services were missing.

Hi Shakti, were you able to put aidan's ROM on it? Can you please send me step by step instruction on how to do it? I am also a victim of this scam and had tried to even report them to ACCC but they were not able to find them. They run their business via international channels and only has agents here who sell it directly to locals.

Hi Joy_Rod21, I didn't actually install the aidan ROM myself - this is one possible solution though if you're prepared to just give up on Worldmax and want to use the device as a generic Android Box.

Just in case you are interested in your remote to work I found a video which might help
I will try to install my box with Aidans Rom later this week.
I have loaded T5 pro image onto the box and its working good. Luckily I had saved a generic Android remote from old MX box and it's working like magic. However the processor is weak and takes time to work. Loaded Kodi and Stb emulator on it. At least it is not buffering.
