Home Replacement apps basically throw HTC widgets out the window, which sucks but i found an app to fix this Beautiful Widgets is one way, it is basically a HTC widget replacement but I also just found a post on this site about widgets too that was extremely helpful in getting the widgets I wanted to replace HTC, here it is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761517
Hope you guys find it as useful as me.
This is a problem that seems to occur only in ICS, but I don't know more than that. It didn't happen when I was running stock, stock/rooted, or Saurom. I'm using the Apex launcher but a quick Google search shows similar reports from people using Nova.
I'm running Flappjaxxx's ICS IMM76D UCLE2 Base (but I haven't updated to the new release that came out today). I've also noticed this on ICS Objection (with Apex launcher).
So, here's the issue: occasionally widgets will "Freeze" and stop updating. I've seen this with Beautiful Widgets (the clock will stop updating, so it will read 3:05 when it's actually 3:30), Android Pro Widgets (specifically the calendar and bookmark widgets--the calendar will not let you advance to different months, the bookmarks widget will not update to show new bookmarks if you refresh it), and the TweetCaster Pro widget (it will not update to show the latest tweets when you press the refresh button).
There is still some functionality with the widgets--they don't die completely. I can still touch the clock portion of Beautiful Widgets and get to the alarm settings. I can still touch individual days in the APW calendar widget and see appointments, and touch the header to launch the full calendar, and the APW Bookmarks widget is still scrollable, clicking individual bookmarks will launch those pages, and touching the header bar will launch the browser's default page. But for some reason they stop updating.
Things I know
1. Restarting Apex launcher appears to reset the widgets. They start fully functioning again.
That's about it.
RIght now I"m trying to determine if JuiceDefender might have something to do with it. I don't think it would because I've used JD on my other phones with no issues... HOWEVER, none of my other phones have ever run ICS. I don't know. Maybe ICS is different. I know JD had issues working with Gingerbread for a while...
Anyone have any thoughts? Questions? Experience with this? It's a bit mystifying. NOw that I know restarting Apex launcher gets everything working again it's a lot less annoying than it was (rebooting every time was a pain) but I'd still like to figure out how to make it go away.
I had same problem with beautiful widgets. my task killer was my problem.it was to aggressive

Same problem.
Have this problem both with Omega 7.0 rom and cyanogenmod.
Some widgets freezes after some minutes when phone is in standby mode.
Just by tilting the phone and let the window be landscape and then tilt it back again will activate the widget.
But it is annoying....
i had the same problem with widgets freezing; i uninstall go weather widget and go launcher and now it s fine again !!
edit: oops it came back...no freeze with Apex but it's still freezing with Tsf..
reedit: i found my problem: it was "clever contact widget "that froze the others widgets but only with TSF shell (not with Apex!!!)

i'm using a motorola atrix 2 with stock ics and this's happening to me also , it's not any app that's causing this problem , it's a bug in ics as to many .. searched gooogle .. no launcher can help , i tried nova prime and apex but same happens to both , but now i'm on stock blur again and it doesn't happen so frequently but still happens, they say that only google can help in this case , they have to give an update .. so we have to hopw that they'll give us one soon .. until then we have to restart the launcher
note- try an anlog clock on your home screen , or anlaog and digital both home screens in a one home screen , you might notice that digital clock freezes when the analog clock works fine , i don't know why but that's happening to me ..
Something wrong with my Launcher, no matter if I use Xperia S Launcher or T or GX, all the of them are giving me weird problem, they stop updating the widgets after two days.
I mainly use Fancy Widgets 3.5.5 & battery info. which constantly update the information. but after two days those widgets stuck at the same value & show the old information, until I reboot the device, & then again for 2 days ...
I am on Stock Rom with Locked boot loader.
Any Help ?
I checked the title suggestions and the S3 doesn't have a solution in them... The suggestions for other phones don't seem very good either, although I will take a look at LauncherPro.
Question:
Is there a way to restore widgets to their correct screens and locations? I like trying ROMs and I've got saving/restoring my data and apps down so I don't lose anything but widgets are a pain. I get the big red rectangles but not the widgets. Have no problems paying for an app that does it, so I'm not just looking for a freebie handout.
Ideally the app would also restore apps and data into a new ROM, but I'd be happy if it just looked after my widgets. I run 7 home screens and have my Launcher at 6 columns x 7 rows - I don't mind having to set that up prior to restore but again, ideally it would be nice if the app would restore those settings.
*grins* Not asking much... am I?

From my experience, which is limited to Apex Pro, I can tell you that restoring the home screens work for logos & folders of apps, whereas somehow my widgets (I got 1 widget, which is the calendar in agenda view) does not work somehow. Maybe other launchers can do it though.
Thanks chrismast - it seems to be an issue. I can't find anything on Playstore that specifically says it will restore widgets, even if you're on a stock layout. Maybe it is too hard given all the changes and layouts people have on their devices? le sigh...
Its very rare to restore Widgets as they were.

@rootSU - do you mean it is rare that people put widgets back as they were or that it is rare to be able to restore them as they were? The 2nd one, yep! Having all kinds of problems trying to find a way to do it automatically. The 1st possibility - I like to try different ROMs and see what they are like to use - to do that I really need to have the same set up in each so I can compare. Restoring widgets to what they were before an upgrade seems a logical thing to do, so I am puzzled it hasn't been addressed before now.
Maybe I am just a bit odd?

Yes the latter. I ONCE managed to restore fully using titanium backup. I suppose it depends on the type of widgets. Go launcher and Nova have internal backup features, but all it does is put the widgets in their places. I still have to "tap to restore widget" which for some is great, they just pop back up but others that are configurable, i still have to go through all the config again.
nova launcher prime does a superb job of this

Not for me. Once I restore widgets like:
Tasker tasks
Set CPU
Beautiful Widgets
Pure Calendar
Simi Clock
I have to go into each and set my preferred settings.
This has happened twice to me. My screen is all set up the way I like it and then all of a sudden all my widgets disappear. Then a pop up comes asking me to allow widgets and I do. This is very irritating because I dont want to keep making new widgets everytime.

It's a terrible bug that we're trying to sort out. It should be sorted out soon, but for now it's best to export your theme (Themer Setting - Advanced - Export, then you can find it in the Export tab in My Themes) as this will backup your current screen. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Good to know you're on top of it. It usually only happens to me after a reboot. I usually remember to export before rebooting, but it just happened to me as I woke my device.. of course this was after spending an hour or so working on a new layout :/

Don't worry this bug is on our top priority list, we'll do our best to get the bug removed as soon as possible.
Apps and Widgets Still Disappearing
Hi - I see this is an old thread but I found it through Google, and I am a little surprised to see this has been an issue for so long. I am experiencing this very issue. Sometimes app icons and widgets will disappear even without me rebooting anything - just swiping through different homescreens. I have a Galaxy Note 4. Please let me know if there's possibly anything I can do to keep this from happening - I can't count the number of times I've re-created a widget.
Also, I was wondering - does Themer affect the default homescreen (TouchWiz in this case)? I had my TouchWiz homescreen set up the way I like with apps categorized into folders, but when I switched back to it, I see that apps and widgets have disappeared or moved around on TouchWiz as well. My suspicion is somehow Themer affected it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Same problem here. I use the Samsung Music widget, resized to show a bit of the playlist and it regularly disappears from my screen. very annoying!
Will this be fixed in 2015?
Also there is a regular hick-up in painting the home screen, like it's not loaded from memory. This really reduces the overall experience with this great launcher!

Hi,
It's a very complex bug to overcome, and we've eliminated it from almost every device. Soon this bug should be fixed on all devices. For now you can always use this quick fix:
1. Uninstall Themer.
2. Delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (Remove the Exported folder if you have saved any themes).
3. Reinstall Themer.
If the problem still occurs we recommend selecting the Save Theme option when you long press on the homescreen, as this will temporarily save that theme. Hope this helps!

I'm having the same problem with disappearing widgets on reboot, but only with my LG G2 D801 (not as much of a problem, but also present, on my HTC One M7). The "problem" widgets are the non-Zooper widgets such as Digical+, Poweramp, Chronus, etc.
Hope it gets sorted out, because this launcher is superb (I'll keep using it, but would prefer the problem be eliminated).
Driving me nuts!
I spend at least an hour setting up Zooper and the rest of my widgets. Then something happens forcing me to reboot my phone. Poof! All my hard work is gone. This is 6th time this has happened on my unrooted Note 4! I love this launcher and have become quite used to the theme I've set up. Nothing I've tried works, exporting, saving, nothing. Please fix this! I'm seriously thinking I'll have to find another launcher if it happens again. It's becoming to time consuming.
I have a similar issue. I accidentally drug my widget too close to the dock, which crashed nova launcher. After nova restarted, my widget won't show on the screen, but when I go directly into zooper app, it still shows the widget active in screen?!?
