Consequences of root on S9+ Android 10 - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am about to root my S9+.
Now ive see that everything is controlled/"secured" by Knox. Especially the Fingerprint and Faceunlock.
Do these things work after rooting the phone? What doesnt work when the phone is rooted?
Thanks in advance

Pretty much everything still works fine. Some custom roms have problems with Google Pay but with magisk you can use magisk hide and other magisk tweaks to make it work.
Fingerprint sensor and face unlock will still work fine. However if you flash a custom rom you are probably going to need to wipe/reset the phone and you will have to setup the phone again once it is installed.

What? What you mean? Root has nothing to do with battery.
Use magisk.

There is a root method that caps battery capacity to 80%. I want an option that doesn't do that

Android Pay on BareCee

I'm sure everyone has heard of the Tap 10 promotion Google is running.
I'd like to take advantage of this but having BareCee installed on my phone, I cannot get Android Pay to accept my credit cards.
I've done some research and it seems like AP doesn't like root or unlocked bootloaders. I've tried a couple Xposed modules (RootCloak and No Device Check) to try and trick it into working without success.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to work?
Thanks!

If you're running V2, try flashing the stock host file in post #2. I left the blocking one in it by mistake.
That might help, but I'm not sure.

you need to uninstall xposed and busybox then go into supersu and unroot then reboot. once rebooted install android pay...make sure it works then you can reinstall supersu, busybox and xposed. i know this method works for sure on barecee.

Root for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge running Nougat 7.0

Root is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. I take no credit for the root. I am just posting a link to the T mobile root thread. I successfully rooted my AT&T Galaxy S7 on Nougat 7.0 following the instructions in the OP of this thread.

I think it is 10 times smoother. Real laggy at first like expected but once it settles in its smooth. I'm loving it. But in hearing that there is no xposed for it yet. But i didn't use xposed so that don't bother me. I set my cpu to conservative.

@dirtydodge I checked the websites that are listed for original stock firmware, but neither had 930A. would i download 930T and it will work the same?
they have posted the stock 7.0 AT&T file,
its a MEGA link,
about 1.7gb
but I rooted and so far its pretty good, debloated my AT&T device fully,
and I'm gonna see hat I can do to enable tethering.
I already got google assistant install

This root does not work. I've followed every step and get stuck in a boot loop at the s7 boot screen.

How long did you leave it? And did you go through initial setup before trying to root? I got a longer boot time the first reboot and trying to flash the Nougat odin files and immediately flash the eng boot without completing setup didn't boot.
Now that you mention it maybe like 4-5 min these phones start roasting lol, I went through the whole set up I'm going to try again tomorrow seeing as I'm the only one with the issue.
Does flashing adoptable storage mod in flaahfire work on nougat? Has anyone tested it?

Is there a eng rom for nougat for att or is it only eng rom for nougat for tmobile? Can you please post link to where they post the mega link? I can't find it. Thank you in advance
It works, but it's very laggy and the battery drains very quickly. I've had rooted nougat for about two weeks now and using govtuner and L-speed among other things completely smooths out the lag. The battery drain is still an issue though.
My question is can you set selinux to permissive using rooted nougat? I don't think you trip knox by rooting with the eng kernel but it's still there and may prevent the toggle on boot. I still get a once or twice a day popup from the play store telling me to uninstall it as well which is slightly annoying ?
I'm also wondering if anyone has successfully gone from nougat to the tmobile custom rom on att. I tried but ended up bootlooping. Someone mentioned flashing the PIT file from tmobile but I don't want to lose LTE. It seems pointless without an unlocked bootloader but the engineering kernel is such a battery hog I may give it another go in a while
When I used nougat BQA6 it rooted just fine
So the root works for me, it boots on and when I reboot it, it rebooted then i messed with the prop.builds . and it get stuck at the ATT screen. flashed back to stock and im fine but how do i keep that from happening. samsung dm verity
also I told supersu to disable KNOX should i do this or not
I also cant find these things in titanium backup to disable them

I had root using this method, but I lost it and can't get it back. I keep getting the SuperSU "SU Binary occupied" error after running the root.bat 2.82 a few times. I also tried flashing back to stock and then rooting again but still get the error. thanks

We can't update super Su last i checked. I just keep ignoring the update message. I'm not on N at the moment bit I'm still running super Su 2.79. If you update it then it'll remove root on our devices.

Use Odin to go back to stock, reroot.

Magisk support or this phone dies.

Netflix no longer works for me as Google SafetyNet DRM detects root (SuperSU, busybox, and unlocked bootloaders). Currently, the only work around is Magisk hide, which means you need johnwu systemless root using MagiskSU and the Magisk framework flashed. There is a major snag for the G3 however, due to bump. Bump is what allows a custom bootloader to be accepted. MagiskSU and framework work by modifying the boot.img to mount a hidden partition. With stock ROMs above 5.1.1, you cannot just bump the modified boot image as it causes flashing red and blue lights and bootloader not to verify correctly.
I could switch to a different ROM like Cyanogenmod and use a bump script to get it to work (complicated and unwanted). Developer support is lacking at the moment, so I am not holding my breath. Not to mention, SafetyNet will keep evolving and leave this method behind eventually. The future is likely in a temp root solution just to apply system-less modules and ad-blocking as rooted users become more persecuted by major services.
Even so, I would love a method of using Magisk hide currently while staying on stock MM if possible.
Oh no! I had no idea Magisk wasn't working for stock roms.
I was just looking it up because I got the dreaded screen dying issue (paper fix is working for now) and was thinking of starting over with a new G3 and putting Magisk on it.
I guess I'll have to use a custom ROM if I do that? Are there any that can pass SafetyNet?

Root And TWRP Help Please

Hi
Im trying to root and install custom recovery for my oneplus 7t pro (hd1913, 10.0.7)
1. When i tried to root with magisk i was able to root and flash the modded boot.img, root seems to work only like 20%, tired to install module from magisk like vanced utube and worked
but everything else requires root like ad removing and bloatware removing cannot work.
2. When i tried to install twrp it almost every time failed, i only succeded to get it to boot and not really flash, guess its not available for the device yet.
I dont really mind about the twrp, ill install it if it will ever get out.
But the root, i have to make it work, its only works partially, what can i do?
THANKS AHEAD!

TWRP doesn't work which has been stated many times in the thread.
And what do you mean with ad removing and bloatware removing? How and what app?

Go to mag , settings, systemless host then install adaway and your done
and you dont need to flash the magisk patched img. just boot it up in fastboot. then go to magisk and do install direct. then restart and wait to unplug you phone.

Question Knox eFuse and banking apps

I've done a bit of research but couldn't find a definite answer - let's say I root the phone and that trips the Knox eFuse. Does that mean that banking apps ang Google Pay won't work at all or is there a way to somehow hide Knox efuse status from them? I'm asking because I'm coming from a Oneplus 6 and all I had to do there after rooting was just using Magisk Hide.

Well, that I don't care about, to be honest. I just want the phone to retain it's functions, or at least most of them. I don't really care about Samsung's proprietary apps, so long as there are Google's replacements (like Google Pay instead of Samsung Pay)

Without magisk modules Samsung pay Galaxy Watch pairing Samsung services Secure Folder and so on. Open Bootloader and root brakes safety for banking. But with the right modules and magisk hide nearly all is working normal. The only is that you don't get OTA anymore so you must wait for development for new updated rons

correct me if I'm wrong, but not all rooted devices don't get OTAs?
I mean you can get the notification, but you won't be able to install it without loosing all your data.
At least it was my experience with Oneplus, HTC and LG devices.
From my reading you don't loose much, Ill root when samsung will stop supporting it.
At first I wanted to root for tasker and adaway, but learned that both are available un-rooted.
-Tasker is routine
- adaway is using vpn. It says that it drain the battery more, but I did not see any difference ON or OFF. Did a 9h SOT this weekend.
