Mate 20 pro Out of contract , what phone next? - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

My contract is up Feb 2021, happy to keep this phone, at times it hangs for split sec, not sure if it's update related or the minor dropping on to floor From sofa.
Most stores are pushing Samsung galaxy s21 costing ££££ and some stores are now on 3yr contract, not sure I want to commit to that long contact.
Any suggestions?
I'm happy with Huawei but not sure I'm ready to loose Google support.
Thanks in advance.

I didn't intend to, but I might be receiving two Galaxy Note or NONE

hey, this is what's happening with mine. A week ago from today, I've placed an online order through attwireless which had cost me 300 plus tax. However, right after i've submitted my order, I ended up on the bestbuy websites advertising their $50 giftcard with its upgrade plan. so i've decided to call back at&t to cancel my order within 24 hours. when i got a chance to talk to the lady i was surprised because she couldn't cancel my order since it's in the "process" and she just told me to send the phone back once i receive it. This order was done on last tuesday, Feb 8th and it's hilarious that i couldn't even get it to cancel the shipment the day after, since it was TOO late. So what the heck, i just went to the BBM and preordered mine.
right now, i have a galaxy note package right on my desk sent by at&t but when i see my bank account, i do not see anything debitted by at&t yet. i've been talking to 4 diff. reps and they all say they charge your account right away at the checkout page. Apparently, they don't know what's going on with my status. Only exception was the iphone, she says, which had taken extra 7days to charge the customers.
but my question is will I be able to sign a contract on sunday when i go pick up my galaxy note with BBM even i have the actual note in my position from att?
will their system block me from getting another one? but they didn't even charge me???!!? if that's the case, i guess i have to send it back before sunday so i don't have any trouble getting mine at BBT.
since, att has 30 days return policy, i was maybe thinking about keeping it til i see the "-317.99" on the bank statement.
what do you think guys? should i take the risk?
I would suggest you be honest and just return the ATT phone.
Knowing AT&T, they will charge you. Maybe not right off the bat but they'll find another way like your monthly bill.
if you return the phone, it will take another 5 days to make a reversal or to cancel your phone/line upgrade before you can apply for another phone/line upgrade, so if you have plans of returning the phone, return it asap.
from ATT:
We will get you. We will track you with GPS and send warnings and even access your camera and watch you.
And we are just getting started.
Thanks for shopping AT&T !
If your contract has not been reversed, you will not be able to buy a 2nd Note at the 2 year price.
If however you ARE able to for whatever reason, keep the AT&T phone. See what happens.
Worst case scenario you get charged for it. If so, go to any AT&T store and return it. Easy as that.
They won't add it to your monthly bill.

The phone isn't even out yet. Nobody even knows which carriers will have it. For now, Samsung has just announced that it'll be releasing this summer.

So today AT&T announced they will be releasing the phone on June 21st for $199.99, on contract (ostensibly $650 off-contract).
Guessing this means either Verizon is not getting the phone or won't get it for awhile...just like every good phone lately. Verizon needs to step up their hardware game if they want to maintain the numbers they have. Having great service is wonderful, but not having great devices to enjoy the service on is a bad mission plan.

Meh. They have iPhones now. :good:
Another phone Verizon will not carry and if they do, months down the road and only the lowest storage model.

It's almost like Verizon has figured out how far they can go before their customers flee....and then stop right at the line.
They are milking it and will keep doing it until At&t threatens their position, or Verizon loses some of their premium rate customers.
This would be good for my wife who seems to break every electronic device she touches...
It will be a huge seller for which people like me will stay with their current device (S3) since not worth losing unlimited going to another carrier to get it. Coverage for me is also a Verizon need.
People like me are a big part of Verizon's milking strategy. Why release these devices if people stay anyway? No extra marketing, training, inventory, sales, or support costs. Ride the middle line and milk it, real good.
Added:
Even if we get the Active down the road, it will be no better for storage than the S4. Meh. The only way would get a 32 is if that is the lowest option.
This phone would be nice for when I'm taking my underwater basketweaving class and need to google a new weave pattern.
i have not bought it. But i am quite interested in it. do you have more information about it? Can u provide it for us as a refererence. Thanks

Strongly urge UK customers to complain to Samsung regarding compensation here:

UK customers are being treated shockingly and appallingly by Samsung compared to other countries in regards to not being offered any compensation for the recall of the Note 7
We already have the disadvantage of paying a higher price for Samsung products
Denied the Galaxy Note 5 in 2015
Denied the launch of Samsung Pay
Delayed launches of new releases before other countries
And now being denied any sort of compensation for the double recall of the Galaxy Note 7. Despite other countries like the USA receiving $100 for the inconvenience.
In the UK we have not received:
Any cash compensation
Any compensation for loss of money due to buying accessories
Any discount for the replacement Galaxy S7 Edge that is offered by Samsung
What we did receive:
A patronising and poorly worded email, that implied the greatest gift Samsung could offer to it's disadvantaged customers was a refund.
Something that Samsung would be legally obliged to do in any case.
The only way to get what we deserve is to complain officially to Samsung.
So, I am here to help you:
There's an easy and efficient way to do this, completely free and powered by the trusted UK consumer rights guru Martin Lewis's 'Money Saving Expert' Website and the tool there called RESOLVER. My complaint was worded as follows:
Dear Customer Services,
Reference:
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 purchased directly from Samsung UK online. Compensation request due to the recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
Complaint:
Samsung have not offered any compensation to UK customers who have endured several weeks of a double recall of the Galaxy Note 7. It has been observed that other countries including but not limited to North America have been offered $100 compensation.
The recall is compulsory, in that Samsung is crippling the Note 7 via OTA software patches to the phone purchased by the customer and forcing the customer to return it. This will be the second incidence of recall and with it comes a great deal of inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, financial loss and overall stress. Samsung have offered absolutely zero compensation and this is wholly unacceptable.
To action this I would like you to either offer a cash compensation in line with other countries, or offer a heavily discounted alternative replacement phone that is as near equivalent to the Galaxy Note 7 (for example, the Galaxy S7 Edge).
I look forward to a response within 7 days of this correspondence.
Please reply to my resolver email account as I would like to keep all of my communications in my personalised complaints case file.
Yours faithfully
I urge all UK customers that have had to endure this fiasco to spend 5-10 minutes doing what I did to get something for all the trouble caused.
Why should we be the under dog?
The more of us that submit complaints the more impact it will have.
I intend to make the press and tech websites aware of our actions if we do not get an appropriate response from Samsung
.
Done.

The manufacture is responsible for your losses so I would go with Samsung.
The category is "other" as you are complaining about customer service not the product in this instance.

Done - borrowed most of your well-written note, and added some points about the particular messups around my original delivery etc.
Thanks for finding this site - it looks like a really useful way to pursue the issue. Hope something comes of it!
Very nicely done ..copy sent ..plus my other snotty email this morning
to add eve more insult to users in the UK who DID purchase.
those in India who only paid a deposit are getting treated better than us !!!
'For everyone who pre-booked the Note7 in India, the company is now offering the Galaxy S7 or the S7 edge instead. If you choose to go with either of these phones, you will be given a new Gear VR, Level U wireless stereo headset, and a $50 Oculus VR content voucher absolutely free. In addition to that you will also get one time screen replacement for free within 12 months of purchase.'
I don't know how likely this is, but is there at least a remote possibility that it's part of some broad, quiet effort to punish the UK over Brexit? If it is, it's definitely not right, but the thought has crossed my mind. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but there it is.
That said, good job on that, I hope you guys are successful in getting proper compensation!

No I really don't think that.
In the UK (and Europe) we have been the underdog well before BREXIT. Besides, we haven't actually left the EU yet! (Though it can't come soon enough - that's another topic elsewhere!)
Sadly, everyone blames everything on BREXIT - probably someone blames the weather we have had recently on it!
I been complaining hard on Twitter about the lack of consistency from facebook, Twitter and email.
Two started to get information, by email they started to complain about my abroad purchased of a dual SIM phone and how I have to discuss with them even though I was offered a single sim variant before 2nd recall.
I have posted this chat to get an actual response. Getting quite angry with the run around

The online shop are not the best team to contact regarding the customer service failure. It's online support.
If they fob you off with 'cut and paste' replies then it goes further up the chain.

Just took mine back for a refund to CPW. Today is a sad day!
CPW Return UK
Just returned mine today also. Was asked for it headset box and all contents. I stood my ground and said while we stand here another potential customer will leave due to waiting in line (shop was busy . That soon surpassed the hurdle of accessories required rubbish. Then I was also refunded the £100 I paid upfront? No idea when I supposedly paid that shhh. Si now you ten days until beach to upgrade status happy days. The reason happy, is if noticed scratches staying to appear on the front left of screen. My two year old note 4 if still mint with no screen protection. So maybe something in the G5 screens??
The tried pushing inferior S7 edge as it's a safe phone and really the same! I said no thanks I'm due an upgrade not down grade and with outdated tech, at that.
Going short term sim only till S8+ arrives, hopefully sooner rather than later
The so called $100 allowance isn't really all that great a deal either. It is only for Samsung phones. Really, the only phone anybody will use it on is the s7. So Samsung is hoodwinking these folks...1. getting them off the complaint list 2. getting them locked into another 2 year agreement 3. Giving them 100 dollars bill credit for a phone that is about to be replaced, which is going to reduce any remaining inventory (great for Sammy) right before the release of the s8.
Go figure. Our situation isn't much better, and may be worse since the 100 dollars is acting as a incentive to make a poor choice.
EDIT: oh, and actually, the 100 dollar bill credit is in reality no benefit since contract phones are always inflated. You'll basically get the phone for $575 instead of $675. You could've had the same discount if the phone had been purchased via Amazon. They'll definitely keep the 100 dollar lower price point for the s7 once the new one rolls out. Nothing lost.
It is not just UK. The EU is a secondary market for Samsung. We all know that. Why - that I do not know.

I hear what you're saying. But I personally paid £740 direct to Samsung (around $900) so I had already been ripped off. I wanted it 3 days earlier so that rip off was actually quite a kick in the teeth for someone paying up front direct to their store.
So even $100 (£80) is a measly amount yes, but any amount is better than nothing. It would at least cover my loss for accessories.
If they can't give us £80 off the cost of the S7E then they don't care about customers.
.
Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
I don't want money off another Samsung phone. I want the £80+ refunded for accessories. I contacted amazon who tol me to go direct to the sellers. The sellers told me to return stuff and pay postage myself - 2 addresses given were in the USA so the postage would be far higher than the cost.
I also want my time paid for. At least 5 long phone calls, many emails, 2 galaxy note7 set ups, 2 note 4 set ups and a note 2 (changing to and from my other half who was having my old phone).

I have the V20 and it still technically has $476 on the device payments, but I get a $28/month credit on my account which will pay off the device in the next year and a half. I contacted Verizon directly and asked If I can give the phone to a friend or sell it when I buy the Note 8 and they said Yes as long as the phone keeps getting paid for with the $28/month credit.

Going to be an iPhone 5 or s5 for about $75 and do this. Does it matter if the phone is actually on Verizon or not? Or just a working phone?
Thanks for sharing! I noticed the unlocked version is less expensive than carrier specific. I've never gone the route of unlocked - does anyone know of advantages/ disadvantages of going this route? I'm assuming the updates would come from Samsung rather than carrier but, again, unlocked is foreign to me. Thanks, in advance!

Unlocked meaning you can pop any sim in and it'll work - no carrier bloatware - only samsung's P). No commitments, no contracts.

Hi! How can I help you today?
You
I want to know if the previous Note 7 owners who were forced to turn in their phones for other phones will be allowed to upgrade to the Note 8.
Verizon
Welcome to Verizon Wireless Sales chat! With whom do I have the pleasure of chatting today?
You
Stephen
Verizon
It's very nice to meet you, Stephen!
Verizon
Any customer can upgrade to the new Note 8!
You
We were told that if we turned in our Note 7 after the whole exploding battery incident that we would be allowed to upgrade when the new one came out. Is that going to be honored?
Verizon
There shouldn't be any issue!
Verizon
Do I have permission to access your account so that I can better assist you?
You
Yes
Verizon
Which line are we wanting to upgrade?
You
(Blanked by me)
Verizon
You are definitely eligible to get the Note 8 however you still have 17 payments left on the current phone.
Verizon
That would go the same as if you still had the Note 7 on your account.
Verizon
You would have to pay off that balance in order to get a new phone.
You
I know that. They told us that wouldnt affect us and they would waive that. So in other wor4ds Verizon lied again. They told us we wouldnt have to do that. I guess I will be changing carriers since I cant trust Verizon to keep their word.
You
I didnt change phones by choice. I was forced by your company to do so. I was assured by verizon that Note 7 owners would be upgraded at no penalty when the Note 8 came out. So you company lied again.
You
As long as we got another Samsung phone we would be able to upgrade at no penalty to us.
You
This is beyond messed up. Now I am stuck with a phone I never wanted in the first place and cant get rid of it.
Verizon
Stephen, you may of very well been told this. Did you hear this over the phone or in store?
Verizon
I want to guide you to the right place to get this information!
You
Over the phone from a Verizon rep
Verizon
Let me grab you the number to our Customer Care Specialist to assist with this issue okay?
You
When Verizon bricked my note 7 to force me to turn it in.
Verizon
Note 7 from all over the world had to be turned in for the safety of citizens!
You
They even released a press release stating the same thing!
You
Yeah thats bull****. My phone was never at risk to explode. Never even got warm.
You
Only 35 worldwide exploded and they were all in Korea. None in the US. The oneshere were found to be fraud.
Verizon
I understand you are frustrated. Everyone had to do the same thing!
Verizon
Let me get you that number so you can get in touch with someone who can help.
Verizon
Or I can transfer you here in chat, how does that sound?
You
just give me the number. I need a break from dealing iwth you guys.

You
Thank you.

Do you straight out them these payments or are you getting a monthly credit from Verizon that will pay off your device like I am? I came over from Sprint back in February when they revealed the unlimited plans and it was a promotion where I traded in my Galaxy S7 Edge and I got the LG v20 for free with a monthly $28 credit that will eventually pay off the phone. Yes I did multiple chats online and in my case, I can swap out my line with the Note 8 and still get the account credits. I even asked if I could "lend my phone to a friend" and they could use the V20 on their account (I'll be sending it to Samsung to fulfill the $425 off obviously) and he said yes that's not a problem because the installment plans don't put locks on the phones. Here's some text of a chat I had earlier.
Verizon
To give you a reference that your device payment credit will continue please keep this agreement number: XXXXXXXXX. This agreement is based on the active line where you device was linked to. Now, just as long as the line is active, regardless you'll use a different device and just as long you will not pay off the DPA (device payment agreement), the credit will continue.
You
Thank you! I have a few more questions.
Verizon
Yes, what questions do you still have while you have me?
You
Can I lend the LG V20 to a friend of mine, since I will no longer be using it?
You
And he can use it on his account?
Verizon
Yes absolutely he can use it on his own account. As long as the device payment will be fulfilled in 24 months, there will be no problem.
Verizon
Yes you are correct
What sucks is I had to give back my note 7 twice and I am using a note 3 there not going to give me anything for it lol

They can give you $425. They told me to place the order and then give them a call and provide them your order them. They will note the order that you will be sending a note 3. As a precaution I paid with my Amex so if they try to screw me I will file a dispute. I'm not going to trade in my S8 Plus

I wonder how I could dispute an issue with Samsung financing...I wanted the 0% instead of my 10% credit card. I don't think they will have issues unless the trade in is in poor condition.
btw, there are folks buying note 7's for 300-400 on craigslist. apparently, samsung is quietly buying them back. i'm meeting a guy in a place with cameras tomorrow to sell mine for 380.
i kept mine - i said bugger off to all those stupid letters and boxes.
and for all those folks who told me i was wrong for ignoring the harassing letters from verizon/samsung: pffft!
i have been using it as a really cool wifi tablet and now it's become my personal trade-in program for the note 8 i just pre-ordered from best buy.

Verizon

I got the deal you wanted, let me give you some advice.
It's about three things. One, don't use chat. Chat is impersonal and doesn't allow you to convey appropriate tone. Two, don't get rude or verbally aggressive. Three, you need a strong account. By that I mean like I have been toting a 250-350 monthly bill with Verizon for over 8 years with a good payment history as well.
After a good hour on the phone, and being told multiple times that I would have to pay off the 500 bucks still owed on the S7Edge I never wanted... and politely explaining that I needed someone to speak to that can work outside the usual box of rules they work within.... I finally got transferred to a supervisor who looked at the account, and said okay, I can make this right. He forced the contract as paid in full which pushed that 500 bucks onto my bill, then immediately went in and issued a credit for the same amount. This made my S7Edge paid for in full so I could not only upgrade early but get the same promotion as every Joe off the street that never went through 5 phones during the Note 7 fiasco. So I got it half price still like everyone else. It will be here tomorrow.
That was the kicker I think. I simply explained that if they had A. returned my old paid for Nexus 6 to me (which they said they couldn't do) or if I had the Note 7 still (which had the annual upgrade available), they would have exchanged it for a Note 8 right away no questions asked. So I simply said, I just wanted them to honor the annual upgrade I was entitled to beginning August 2016 when I agreed to purchase the preordered Note 7. They didn't have to pay off the 500 bucks on the S7Edge. But I promise you my approach combined with my logic and my account strength made it happen.
They even added 12gb to our data plan. The supervisor also personally called me the next day to confirm the transaction went smoothly and to be sure I was happy. I have never received that level of customer service from any company. It was truly refreshing.

They offered me the same deal initially, to pay half the remaining balance on my S7Edge. I said no thank you and called back and started over again with someone else who sent me to a supervisor who paid off my phone in full, all 500 bucks... .

Now that's a shame! I too ignored everybody and kept my Note 7, it takes a full charge thanks to software blocking the charging update that makes it a brick. Also, as predicted, T-Mobile was not able to cut us off if you were paying your bill, so I've had full service this whole time. I, however, won't be selling this to anyone, it's going back to Samsung for a full refund! There is no expiration date on that recall! That's $850.00+ and use of a free phone for a whole year! I'll use an iPhone 5 to get the Note 7 owners discount.

After this I waited until the next day an called. I told the nice young lady what the situation was and she put me on hold. She came back and told me that I would still have to pay off the phone. I told her that would not be financially feasible because I owed $586 on that phone and I pay $521 a month on my bill every month (Have Me. my mom, my son and my wife on my account plus a few other devices). I told her that if I would be required to do that then I would explore my options of going to another company and having them pay off all of my stuff and then I would only have to worry about getting the phone. She put me on hold again for about 7 minutes and when she came back she told me that they were going to pay off the remainder of my phone. Problem solved.

Question Can I break a contract I signed with T-Mobile for the new Galaxy S23 Ultra?

Can I break a contract I signed with T-Mobile for the new lavender Galaxy S23 Ultra?
(If this belongs in another place, please move it.)
I signed the deal on Feb 16th and was told then I'd get it in 2-5 business days, no later than the 23rd.
Phone didn't come. Went back to store and asked them, they said it's coming anytime. Then I went online chat with T-Mobile last Saturday and they told me they were shipping Monday, (today) and I'd get it by Wed. Guess what, they lied again, the phone wasn't shipped. Now on chat they said it would be shipped between Feb 27 - March 3rd. So three different dates.
On same chat she said I could get a local phone that is in stock if I wanted to downgrade from 512GB storage and 12GB memory to 256GB Storage & 8GB memory. And get this, with the new deal I'd end up owning $15 more a month on my payments. I said no thanks and exited the chat.
I ordered this on the 16th thinking I had plenty of time to get this before our vacation on March 5th.
And it looks like it's not going to come and it will automatically get shipped back due to I can't sign for it.
They lied to me three different times now.
I'm really mad at T-Mobile and want out of the deal and find another provider. Our three phones are paid off and we don't owe anything unless I'm stuck with this new deal. I figured since I don't have the new phone yet, I can back out.
Advice please and maybe links to help me with this.
You just send it back within 14 days of receipt and you can get out of it.
Didn't read everything, but I have O2 and you have 14 days to cancel the contract.
If you didn't pre-order it's my understanding that the higher storage options are on backorder which technically isn't t-mobiles fault but as others have said when you do get it you have 14 days to return it and you can basically undo the whole order and payment within 14 days.

Okay, here is the problem. I ordered this phone the 16th, 12 days ago. I don't have the phone since it hasn't been shipped yet. In T-Mobil chat yesterday they he said: " It is already ready to be shipped and the most recent estimated ship date for the phone is between 02/27/2023 - 03/02/2023." So I think they want to make sure I don't get the phone before Feb 2nd so I can't change my mind and send it back. If it hasn't gotten here by the time I leave for vacation, it will be sent back as I have to sign for it.

Even if it is said in delivery, say them you want to cancel now.
You're within the 14 days and they simply won't ship the phone.worst case you'll need to Return it manually
Keep track of everything, written, picture if applicable, screenshot, etc.
Even in 2023 I couldn't believed how skcetchy provider still are.
I did cancel my 1st S23U feb9, and now feb 28, still no sign of my money, over 1200$.
2nd provider, had issue to close the contract by phone, did online and the plan online wasn't the same as my call. Wen to a store to speak face-to-face, had a agreement and surprise ! got a 50 $ charge because I spoke with a human. Indeed, if I had it done 100% online, no extra charge. Despite the fact this is not a hidden fees, they are not really willing to point it to you...
Spent overall 10h on that (call, return, nego, explanation) + 2 credit check (equifax sent me few notif) + fuel = I could have paid a brand new s23U will all my time lost.
And not done yet, still waiting for my $.
Here we are lucky with credit cards, if you have all the proof, they don't really ask question, they backcharge.
I wont do it for the 50$ , because Ive no argument, but im tempted. Here we already get screwed hard 53$ / month (no phone) for 6gb and 4g plan. And yes , if you're are a no-body, this is pretty much the cheapest when you pair it with a flagship. Overall , including 50% S23U financing, it cost me 93$/month + 830$ cashdown.
ouch

Before launching chargebacks which could result in the carrier canceling your wireless plan and refusing to continue doing business with you, I'd suggest filing an ftc complaint which if I'm not mistaken includes protection against retaliation
If you want to cancel your order, reach out to T-Mobile through DM on Facebook or Twitter and explain to the T-Force Team (automatically tier 2 support) that you will not be there to receive it. FedEx has been leaving packages at people's doors without knocking and ignoring the Signature Required for delivery due to "COVID". Y ou don't want to take the chance that it doesn't arrive and shows up and is left at your door while you won't be there.

Is that a fact? 14 days from the time I actually have the phone in hand?
So would I get to use the phone during the days from the time I get the Phone. That would be great. at period? There are a couple bugs I want to work on on the contract that I'm confused on... the MAX Magenta 55 plan and why I'm only getting $77 for a mint S31+ 5G phone with no scratches, scuffs or blemishes on it anywhere. If I keep this phone, I want to pay the $77 and keep that phone for a backup, but salesperson said the trade in was required with MAX Magenta 55 ???
The reason I'm sayin this is I just found out the Phone is on the way and I should have it in hand tomorrow.

Sorry, I used to work for tmobile years ago. The customer service teams that answer Facebook and Twitter DMs on the offical T-Mobile social media accounts are called tforce. When I worked for tmobile they would be people from your general area and/or timezone after they authenticated you with your tmo account login
Is anybody here familiar with T-Mobile's MAX Magenta 55
They said I was required to have my three lines with Max Magenta 55 added to my main plan for $10 each monthly for two years. That is $30 a month / $720 for 24 months Making the total bill counting $135 + $11.54 a month for the phone. If I don't accept, I don't get the $1000 off the phone. The main question is why do I have to have all three lines with that, one line is not used at all, just for emergency calls for my aging Papa. So, I'd like to take that line out.
It seems like with that max deal and my phone, T-Mobile is recouping back $800 of that $1000? Not really that good of a deal.
The other question was in regards to only getting $77 for my mint and I mean mint S21+ 5G phone. I'd like to keep it and just pay the $77 which goes paying for the new phone.

This is exactly why I always buy Unlocked and Trade-In my phones with Samsung directly. Pop the Sim from old phone in and it works. No Contracts, No Carrier Bloat and No Stress. Just the same Prepaid T-Mobile $32.95 a month plan with 5GB Data and Unlimited Text plan I have had for years.
