is it possible, that the new 2nd screen functionality with the new OneUI 3 only works with Samsung Notebooks? whatever I try, it's not working with my razer. I do see the tablet and as soon as I try to connect the s7 as second screen, the tablet gets black for a few seconds and then it's back, nothing happened and windows 10 says, it was unable to connect.
please let me know, if you have similar issues.
thanks

It works on non-Samsung PCs.
I have a Dell Inspiron that supports wireless display. Works fine connecting to my Tab S7.
Make sure Windows is up to date and your display drivers are as well.

thanks for testing. can you please tell me, which windows version you are using? are you on stable or insider? because everything is up to date on my side, that's why I am very disappointed. thanks.

Insider build.
Windows 10 Insider Preview 21301.1000 (rs_prerelease)
not working, like a friend of mine who has the same problem. I now switched to https://superdisplay.app/ - works perfectly without any issues and has more features
it doesn't work for me too
Nope, just noticed 2 days ago that it doesn't work for me either. I'm on Windows 10 Pro, an HP 15t. I first suspected that all the anti-tracking and privacy tweaks I've done are responsible, but now reading this forum I'm not sure.
Here are my system specs...
Not sure what magic sauce it has, but it connects to my Tab S7 perfectly.
Similar system to mine... with Second Screen going on my tablet, windows will show my tablet in the Connect list, but just can't connect to it.
Running Windows 10 Home 19041 and this is working perfect for me. Windows + K brings it up and i am already running extended monitor and it just starts right up. I mind you no use on my desktop but great for drawing on stuff on the screen.
I also have SuperDisplay and while this works fine I have ran into a few problems with it and once or twice it messed up my resolution. Great app but I do like the simplicity of it built into the tablet now.
Going to download Windows 10 ver 20XX and see if this breaks it.
SuperDisplay is by far the best option for using the tab as secondary monitor.
It runs much smoother than Samsung's second screen and looks a lot better. Plus it supports 120hz over wifi with barely any lags. Over USB lags are non existant.
Just need play around with the resolution a little bit the first time you use the app to find the perfect settings that match your main display. Once this is done, simply launch the app and your tablet automatically turns into a second screen - much quicker and reliable than Samsung's second screen feature.
I'm actually impressed with 2nd screen on my dell inspiron, wish it support 2k though. No connection issues and the only thing I wish is that I could bring the keyboard up on the tablet, much better than remote desktop when just using the table as the only screen and touch input.

I recently started coveting a Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650 @staples and was trying to find a way to do it with my nexus 10.
I stumbled upon the following app Appwhich looks to be exactly what I want to do with the added bonus of showing the windows 8 desktop, but the website is all in japanese and I cant figure out how to get it to work. I have tried some of the more standard programs but they lack the true multitouch experience and now that i've seen the screen capture I want it. Has anyone found a way to do this reliably?
OK I just tried the app and it works great. I just translated the page and found the download link. The actual software is in English.
Here is the 64 bit versions http://www.tnksoft.com/soft/phone/winmulti/touch_win7_64.zip
And the 32 bit http://www.tnksoft.com/soft/phone/winmulti/touch_win7_32.zip

I also tried that app and it doesn't work that great, its kinda laggy and slow, quality isn't realy good.
Splashtop or Unified Remote works better.
Yeah, after getting the app to work I was underwhelmed. Was looking for something more that I could use on my desk while looking at my monitor. Not while looking at the nexus.
I've been using the non-HD version on my Galaxy Nexus. Haven't tried this yet on the Nexus 10. It's not as great as a real multitouch trackpad, but the only important feature for me is two-finger scroll

Greetings everyone!
Last night I saw on HSN a new Android 21.5 inch Tablet/Monitor with a wireless keyboard mouse running Android 4.0.
First of all I wanted to know if anyone else has seen or purchased one. I searched for the device and I found a couple of YouTube videos showing the devices at tech shows and another one showing a ViewSonic version that was the same as the Acer device. Looks very cool (what I could see of it).
Second, I wanted to know if anyone has one and could give some first hand info about it. Like if it is rooted, can it be upgraded to Jelly Bean, etc.
Any info would be great! Especially if anyone has one and already hacked it!
I was thinking about getting one. Oh and I do know that it can be used as an HDMI monitor with touch screen capabilities (Windows 8 is what one video stated).
Thanks! And if I do get one before anyone replies, I will give the low down! :fingers-crossed:
Picked one an Acer in trade, quick check online shows availability at the box store for ~$400. Haven't had much time to play, but my initial impressions are positive.
Colors are bright and viewable at any angle.
Speakers are passable and a headphone jack provides options.
2 USB ports, need 1 for KB & mouse
MicroSD slot, unknown capability but works with my 8gb sandisk
Sometimes feels slightly underpowered, especially if using lwp- not a major complaint.
Chrome & Netflix work fine, so it meets 90% of my needs. Cannot currently install Facebook native app
It does do HDMI in, but not sure about output of touch for windows 8. I'm not saying no, but haven't looked in to it and doubtful.
There seems to be very little info on these things. I did take a quick few stabs at rooting with little success.
Can report:
Was able to install stock Google drivers for adb and bootloader
Could connect to adb and push files unable to run psneuter. Can't remember error but seemed to indicate locked bootloader
Only one physical button, so no "pwr+volume up" type stuff
Able to reboot to bootloader via adb
No display in bootloader whatsoever
Fastboot OEM unlock does not seem to work
Can reboot via fasboot reboot

Fun Gadget with promising Features and a few downfalls.
I got one of these Acer DA220HQL Smart Displays a couple of days ago. I figured I will share my experience so far.
Hardware:
The Screen is well viewable from different angles and it stands solid no matter at what tilt you set it to. You do have to use two hands to tilt it up or downward. The one Button it has is solid. USB Ports are on the right side. HDMI/Micro SD/Power/Ethernet in the back. No VGA or DVI Ports. Mini USB for Touchscreen Support under Windows and Audio Jack are located on the left side. Along the bottom are the Speakers which are loud enough but not spectacular. The swirly silver Cover over the Speakers is in my opinion not exactly beautiful and would have been nicer in black. But that is just an unimportant detail which might not even bother you. There are two holes behind the cover above the Power Button not sure for what that is.
Android:
The Display is running with the newest Update Android 4.0.4 Kernel-Version: 3.0.21-00003-OMAP-Android+ [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Mar 21 15:41:01 CST 2013
Pros: Runs smooth with great Touch Support under Android. Acer delivers a Quick Access Soft button add-on to Access Volume / Settings / Favorites etc. fully customizable. Logged in with my Accounts and was able to install all Tablet Versions of my Apps. I choose Apex Launcher Pro as my Default Launcher and restored successfully my Backup from my Paranoid Galaxy Note all Apex Settings. Android continues to run in the Background. Meaning you can start a download and Switch over to Windows 8 until it is done. With the Display connected via USB to Windows you get Access to the Storage Spaces of the Display to copy things to and from the Display.
Cons: Speakers do not continue to play when switching to Windows/HDMI. Switching between Android and Windows could be faster.
Windows 8:
When connecting the Display via HDMI and USB for Touch Support you get a two Finger Touch Display for Windows. You can Switch between Android and Windows 8 by staying on the On/Off Button for a while until the Onscreen Display (OSD) appears. Under Android you get an Icon to Switch faster.
Pros: Solid Stand for Touch Operation, 1920x1200 Resolution, One and Two Finger Touch support works good in Windows 8 for Primary Display.
Cons: Only two finger Touch Support which means in some apps limited Multitouch Support (Bing Maps 3D etc.), For Gaming I recommend a Gamepad like the idroid:con - Bluetooth Android controller since the two finger Touchdisplay does not react if more than two fingers touch the display. Works in combination with a Multidisplay System (I am currently using 6 Displays inkl. the SmartDisplay) but the Acer DA220HQL can only be used as the Primary Display with Touch Support. Without Touch support or in Mirror mode it will work fine.
Would I recommend this display?
Yes and No. Yes because it is a cool gadget from Acer and is a cheap way to have a Touchscreen for your Computer with added bonus. No because Acers gadget are not always fully up to par (instead of two finger it should have 10 finger support). In the long run that will become a Problem. I owned over the years a couple of those oddities like an Acer C300 Tablet / Acer Iconia DualTouch Screen / and now this Acer Smart Display. They all had their share of problems and I assume over time this will not be different.
Would I buy another?
Yes, for my Grandma since it is perfect for a Skype Station with the Built in Camera. I would love to use Paranoid Android on this Display to adjust DPI Settings and switch to Phone mode but for my Grandma it would work out nicely as it is.
PS: It seems the Viewsonic 220VSD 21.5" Smart Display and the Acer DA220HQL 21.5" Smart Display is the same Hardware just a little different Software.
Nice Setup you got there swiss :good:
Finally Got One
Well we finally got ours from HSN. Wasn't too happy with the delays, but that is HSN (long story short they sent a unit that was defective from some one else's return).
It booted up pretty quick. As soon as I got on to our WiFi, the setup was fast and easy. I got a BIG kick out of using the on screen keyboard (pun intended)
So far it performs very well. I would love to have Jelly Bean. I really got used to the Jelly Bean experience. But that is ok. Netflix was pre-installed and has a nice sharp picture.
Missing root. Anyone have any ideas? I haven't installed HP ePrint yet (the Play Store states that this device is NOT compatible with). I will side load it to see if it works. I will put it through it's paces. I think Google Cloud print works already.
I have alot of things to check out. I just un-boxed this and wanted to give a shout about how it is going.
Oh one plus about this system is (and I am not sure if it is Acer's software or the hardware) the wireless keyboard works GREAT! Unlike other tablets when you attach either a USB wireless or Bluetooth keyboard, this works without having to install a Null Keyboard app. When I unplug the keyboard, the on screen one pops up when it needs to. When you plug the USB back in the on screen keyboard goes away without any user intervention. The only downside is that spelling correction does not work when you long press a mis-spelled word.
So anyway I will be trying things out and report here anything new or different.
And thank you for the info from you other users. My wife and I are going to use this to replace our aging and almost not even useful G4 iMac.
Again if anyone has any updates or wants to share their experiences, I thank you in advance!
I got this unit as well. As a monitor it works well too bad the speakers don't work for windows.
Not too happy with the android part though.
I don't know if the 4.0.4 version is causing this, but there's plenty of apps I can't install from the play store, including Chrome (I downloaded an apk, but that version crashes a lot).
I got in contact with Acer (nl) today and he told me there are no plans for 4.1/4.2 at this time.
Told him to escalate my request and I will be contacted by the product manager next week.
I'll keep you posted!

Yeah found that too but unfortunately the Information Acer provides is not exactly correct. For Example they state a Maximum Resolution of 1920x1080. Luckely mine has 1920x1200 which is a important fact.
It is the cheapest Touchscreen I have found so far. In Switzerland they sell for 389 Swiss Francs which is currently 415 US Dollars. The cheapest Full HD Touchscreen I found starts at 499.-
Got the update and Google Play 4.1.6

I got the update pretty soon after getting it set up. I rebooted because I thought there was a crash problem with Google Play, but it turned out that the Play Store updated to 4.1.6 from 4.0.25. Good and bad I guess. I cannot verify it, but it seems that the OS Update may have caused the Play Store to show "Incompatible with your device" on a lot of apps. Not that this is relevant to this post, but we also got a new HP 5520 AIO printer so that we could use it with this (and our other Android) devices. I was sad to see that when I searched for HP ePrint app, I found it only for it to say it is incompatible. I thought "What the hell! HSN was showing that it was easily compatible!" Fortunately on my phone, I have an auto backup on install app (File Expert) and have a copy on my phone which I dump onto my network drive. So I used ES File Explorer to look at my network drive and installed it from there with no hitch at all! I have done this with other apps and they all work fine except some start up in Portrait mode with the screen being sideways on the DA220! We also have a Rikomagic MK802IIIS on our 40" HDTV and I do not have this problem at all!
Now if they put a swivel on the back to allow you to switch it to portrait mode, that would be COOL! (I'll try posting a pic! :fingers-crossed
I think it must have to do with the prop file. But I am just slightly able to understand some of the system level stuff.
I hope some XDA Genius can find a way to root this baby and maybe even a Jelly Bean Rom! LOL  :fingers-crossed:
Some apps work great even with the 2 point touch screen. Fruit Ninja is a blast on a BIG screen! LOL Some do not work like Stupid Zombies 2.
I have mixed feelings about some of the things. I really am hoping for a Root solution. I miss my AdAway app!
Hope this helps! I will keep updating here with new info when I find it!
so did anyone get this unit with a wireless keyboard and mouse IN the package?
if so, could you take a picture of the keyboard and mouse and post it here?
thanks!

Also I have a Snakebyte idroid:con Bluetooth Android Controller. > http://www.snakebyte-europe.com/en/container-produkte/products/android/idroidcon/ (so far no Modus I tried works with NFS)
Flipboard is a nice Software for the Display. Worth checking out. To check on the Kids or check on the House I recomend IPCam Viewer. For TV, Slingplayer with a Slingbox.
i got an email from acer (nl) yesterday, the guy i chatted with on friday escalated my question about a 4.1/4.2 update to the product manager.
same answer: there is nothing planned
replied to him this device really needs an update because too many apps cant be installed, i downloaded Chrome through apk but it keeps crashing on me.
also, the usb function (to hook it up to the pc) isnt working correctly, as soon as you switch to the monitor side of it, the tablet part becomes unreachable through usb
told him i was very disappointed by their answer and asked him to, if possible, escalate even higher into the organization
will let you know what their next answer is

Chrome seems to be preinstalled on mine and works fine. But you are right a Update would be great and we probably should all ask them for a Update. The switching is unfortunate but since I have multiple Monitors I can Keep it on Android and still use the rest of the Monitors on Windows 8 to connect to Android.
That said I did find that the Monitor is best used as a Android Standalone device in the Kitchen or something like that. You might decide to connect your Windows 8 Notebook from time to time but thats about it. As a Standalone device it is great because of the size. I went ahead and installed one for my Grandma. She is 86 years old and never used a Computer before. She is now able to call the Familie with Skype and even get lost in Flipbook. She basically just clicks all over the place and reads what she finds. But the important part is she knows how to get back to Skype. The Home Button is big enough and the Skype Icon on the Desktop also.
odd that you have Chrome pre-installed, could you please check what version you have installed?
or even better, post the .apk here?
i dont have room to use it standalone and love that it is also a monitor
its almost perfect, just the android version is holding it back
got the keyboard/mouse today, works perfectly, would be nice if i could change the functionality of the mouse buttons tho, cant find anuthing?
I got one too in taiwan few days ago.
I found that it's so annoying and terrible way to adjust the sound volume while watching movies, such as ones from YouTube. Also, no way to root it so far seems to be a big problem for me. I really wanna install a firewall APP to make it safer. So, can anyone please kindly post a way to root this thing? thanks in advance.

Yes I got the Acer wireless keyboard and mouse in the box with mine. I got ours from HSN. My wife wants to ship it back to them because it is limited on Google Play. I am trying to figure out how to root it and hopefully fix that. Anyone tried downloading apps that the play store indicates is not compatible and run them anyway? I have some work great! Others work but are displayed in portrait mode. That would be ok if there was an easy way to tilt the display on its side!
Still looking to see if anyone has rooted this thing. We may just send it back. But I am hoping for new info soon! :fingers-crossed:

So far None of us seem to be able to do so. Hopefully either Acer gets an Update together or we can find someone with enough knowledge to root it. UAE4Droid / Amiga Games run great and are fun for inbetween.
so i sent in a list of apps that arent working on this devicce. they mailed me back that they would test these apps.
today i got another email....
translation:
"unfortunately, it seems that indeed a numbers of apps do not work with this device. the answer however remains the same: there is no update planned"
and now the worst part:
"this is because the purpose of this device is not to support every application thats made available for it"
HUH????
i sent a message back, telling them i was greatly disappointed and that they should make the source for the da220hql available.
not that i see that happen...

It is perfectly possible if there is somebody to bother doing it. Years ago I was a happy owner of the HTC HD2....a device that could run perfectly Windows Mobile, Windows Phone, Android, Ubunto and much more Only iOS was never fully ported [ It could even dual boot Windows Phone and Android, Some folks tried even tripple boot.
There was in fact a full Windows 95 installation for the HD2. I guess newer versions of Windows would not run on it in at a decent speed. Not very usefull for daily use but a nice way to shock everybody  Sometimes I really miss this device and it's unique developer support. You could really have a totally different phone EVERY day without spending even a euro.
The HD2 is a freak of nature. It started out with Windows Mobile, so that's the reason why it can run "everything Microsoft" out of the box. Android and Ubuntu are open, so it's fairly easy to "port" them to it. iOS is closed like WM/WP, so that's why they haven't fully succeeded to get iOS up and running.
Is it possible to get Windows on the Ultra? Maybe, but i can't imagine any sane person would do it. It would've been all over the place if it was easy.
And just for the lulz, here's Engadget's HD2 review
"The HD2 is a magnificent monster. It is a hulking, intimidating, massive slab of a gadget. If you think the device looks big in photos, it's nothing compared to how it seems up close. Yes, the HD2 is large -- some might say too large -- almost less a phone and more a tablet." - Engadget
Totally agreed also a lot of drivers issues as well probably... That would be simply awesome, the Ultra is doing everything for me when it relates to multimedia and most of my office tasks can be done there that is why I was dreaming about a bluetooth mouse and keyboard and an mhl cable and I can drop my laptop but apparently it is not for now

The new remix os beta might be able to support touchscreen, not sure though. Lets wait till its out
Same as everyone above,
I'm running a SUrface Pro 4 i7 256gb 8gb Ram device.
I couldn't get this to boot from anything other than a USB drive, got stuck because of the single USB slot so plugged in a USB port extender and plugged mouse and keyboard to that and that all started working fine. Surface keypad and touch screen functions don,t work. Also the resolution is silly small but aside from that everything else seemed fine. Hoping the beta which rolls out today might address some of this but likely not.
My current challenge is to get remix os to boot from the internal hard-drive or the micro-sd i have plugged in at the back to keep the USB port free.

I am sure it would work out soon...
It makes sense to install it on the internal card...difficult to handle a a tablet with an ugly usb drive protruding from it...unlike a desktop pc....XD

exactly! I was just happy to get it working first time round.
Runs incredibly awesome and fast on my surface pro 3. Installed on the ssd. I5 128gb 4gb. 230k antutu. If its any consolation. And on my venue 11. I5 4300y, 4gb 128gb, I actually have it installed on the micro SD. A 128gb 80mbs. Don't know why, but the venue can boot it from the micro SD, not the surface, or my onda dualos v919, or my teclast x98 pro. Weird.

That's really interesting. To be fair, microsoft only just managed to fix the bag warmer bug on the SP4 so likely some drivers on it might just be to new age.
In other news Remix OS beta is out with suport for installation on an internal drive. I found a post about how to do this manually but glad they have it baked into their install. No gurantee it will work though. Will update here once im done. http://www.jide.com/en/remixos-for-pc
Hopefully the newest beta will actually work. At work at the moment so can't test it with my SP4 yet. Been running AMIDuOS instead but it doesn't have great performance.

Simple question, how did you install it on your MicroSD card ? I'm having trouble installing it while keeping my second partition, basically I have an Asus T100 with limited SSD storage, so I'm trying to get RemixOS installed on one partition of my MicroSD card for dual boot while keeping my Windows data (files, movies...) on another partition. Any ideas ? I know there's this thing about only the active partition showing up in Windows, so a second partition won't show up in Windows (I have to do it from Linux).
Posting from the SP4 running the beta. Its good keyboard works, managed to boot from the internal partition i setup. No touchscreen support but typecover now works and the touchpad although buggy also works. i would use a usb mouse. Trying to change the resolution now doesnt recognise high res display on surface pro 4. Will post with updates.
I thing RemixOS currently doesn't recognize touchpad buttons, if you don't try to use them (as buttons), it works well, at least for me.

well, when I launched the "now old" alpha usb installer, it allows me to select my sd card, on all the tablets actually, but only the venue actually boots from the sd card... Not sure why, if there's anything I can run, or get more information for you on it, let me know. I actually only got 130k on the alpha on my surface pro 3, sorry about the typo. I installed the beta today, and well, ITS EVEN FRICKIN BETTER, lol. Everything works (except the type cover, lol, and thats the only thing working on the sp4, lol). I mean everything works. Even the windows button works and brings up the remix menu. I'm getting 160k on antutu on the beta. Only problem is, when I'm dual booting and I get the 30 second screen to choose an OS, I can't pick one, unless I have my usb wireless dongle in and my little air mouse/keyboard at the ready, then I can choose with that controller. I guess I could change the default to android, but I use windows 10 x64 too. I had to use windows to root android, with the rmx tools. Anyway, the beta is buttery smooth on the sp3. All apps working except maps, just locks up when I launch it. Audio, bluetooth, wireless 2.4 and 5.0, multitouch, windows haptic button, rotation, battery meter, volume and power buttons, front and back cameras and accelerated graphics all working perfectly. Its totally awesome, this is a super fast android/windows dual OS tablet now!!!

Hey all, just put the beta only maindektop and my venue. The desktop get 193k antutu i7 5820k @ 4ghz 16gb ddr4 256 m.2 m600 ssd. The venue gets 103k on the internal ssd, will bench on SD card later. Now installing on surface 3 (non pro cherry trail z8700), onda v919 air dual os (baytrail-t), and teclast x98 pro (cherry trail z8500). Not sure why my desktop and the venue's scores are so low. I haven't rooted and installed kernel auiditor yet though. Oh, and I'll bench the beta on my dell studio 15 7537 touchscreen lappy later too, i7 4500u, 16gb ddr3 256gb msata ssd 1gb geforce 750mand I'll bench it on my chuwi hi8 (cherry trail z8300). I'm like totally benchmark crazy right now, don't have anything better to do though. I could also put it on my lenovo miix 2 8 and my unbranded 10 inch (best buy brand), but I'm not sure what the point would be. I have 3 nexus 7s, 2 -2013s and 1 2012, I could install the arm version on the 2013s to compare with. I've got that lenovo g460 1st gen i5 560m, geforce 310m, 8gb ddr3 I picked up for $37 (most of what I have, I bought broken, and fixed it). I could go on, but I'm probably boring everybody. I'll let you know the results soon.
as far as why the beta works so well with the surface pro 3 and not with the SP4, I have no idea, it has similar hardware.
The surface pro 3 and the venue are running their full resolutions on the remix beta. Battery life is better than windows 10 x64 on both too.
Ill put it on my surface 3 and I have an old surface pro 1 lying around and let you know the results. I buy a lot of broken stuff and fix it. You should see my stack of phones, mostly s4 and s5, but I've got some others too. Seriously gadget ocd, lol. I'm posting on the venue 7130 vpro right now, not as buttery as the surface, but still snappy. Multi touch works, Bluetooth, WiFi 5.0 and 2.4 work, vibration works, windows button works, sound works, volume and power buttons work, battery meter works, maps works too, unlike the sp3. Rotation is about the only thing not working, but does on the sp3.
I was digging amiduos lollipop for a while, but yea, you just don't get the performance of running it natively. Although my desktop was getting way over 200k on antutu with it, but some things can only be run natively due to virtual machine limitations. I think this beta and the phoenix beta blow any virtual android machine away. I've run some marshmallow ones too, they just don't cut it for me.
Well, I went out and picked up another surface pro keyboard. I got the one that is backlit. The box says surface pro type cover. I didn't think it was any different than the one I already have. But...., this one works with remix, and the other doesn't. Anyway, the keyboard does work, but the trackpad doesn't work at all in remix, both work fine in windows. Also, I have maps working on my sp3. I had to go into settings and click on "let maps use full screen" and now its working. So to recap, everything on the surface pro 3 is working pretty much flawlessly with the remix beta. The front and rear cameras are a little laggy, but that's about it, oh, and the trackpad on the type cover isnt working. but bluetooth, wifi 5.0 and 2.4, rotation, vibration, windows button, surface pro stylus, battery meter, resolution, power and volume buttons, 10 point multi-touch and standby are all working very well. I'm not sure about display brightness as I haven't located where I can adjust it. Anybody know?

Thanks for the answer !
After some trials and research, I have found out that there's no way to boot from external sd card from my tablet (BIOS doesn't load it up before Windows boot). I could install RemixOS on my tablet's hard drive, but I won't be able to detach my keyboard which contains the HDD then. I have also tried the method that involves using grub2win, but for the same reasons at boot my grub2win installation isn't detected. I might try with putting it on my integrated SSD, and telling it to then look for RemixOS on my microSD when I have time, but for now it's a nope apparently.
I'll still try live booting the beta though, looks awesome !
I have tried several times to connect smart view to my TV with both my new Galaxy note 8 as well as my wife's. It appears Samsung has put a block on it so true mirroring is no longer possible but selected files can be used through Samsung connect or other 3rd party apps.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to get this to work properly as my older devices do?

I have a Samsung 55in 4k tv and just found this feature today. I was able to cast what was on my tv back to my phone. It was pretty cool.

Was able to cast my note8 screen to the 1st gen and 2nd gen Chromecast, as well as a Samsung WiFi TV. Have not tried it on the Nexus Player yet. Will update with results

Try resetting your display resolution to FHD+. That's what I had to do

Wow that actually worked!
Thanks for the info.
I appreciate your input but FHD+ is my default setting for my display And that's what I keep it on unless I'm using VR gear.
I was on the phone with a Samsung representative for 45 minutes and they could not figure it out. She said I should have true Screen Mirroring but no matter what we tried it would not work unless we used a 3rd party app . And then it's not true mirroring , it's just selected media share.

Try removing the 3rd party casting apps. I had AllCast installed on my S8+ and that turned out to be the problem.
Been there, done that.
I removed all 3rd party apps till there was nothing left but to hit the mirroring button in the drop down menu and this did not help
were you able to find out the solution to your problem? I am facing the same problem and have tried the solutions mentioned in this thread. It does not work for me . Any help is appreciated.
Samsung givith and takith away.
Samsung is becoming more like apple everyday with proprietary software. My older Samsung devices work on everything. The Note 8 and I would assume the same would be for the S8 and S8 Plus will only do true screen mirroring with Samsung devices. I remembered that my Blu-ray player which is Samsung is also Wireless and will do mirroring and it worked just fine. Then I tried it on a flat panel 2017 Samsung TV and again it worked just fine but go to any other brand or older TV and you have to use third-party software which does not do true screen mirroring. In your settings on any older phone you will have a setting for mirroring in the Advanced connections. But if you look in the settings for the Note 8 the only mirroring setting you find is for a USB connection to your car. Samsung is more and more making it impossible to connect to anything easily but their own devices.

But in my case I own a series 6 samsung led f6400 and still I am not able to connect. The connection happens for a moment and then the screen mirroring terminates. Am I missing any setting?
It works just fine with my note 8 and Samsung TV.
Same problem.
I had this exact same problem. The solution was stupidly simple. When I hit "smart view" all the devices show up. Tapping on the device I want does not work. I actually had to hold down on the device I wanted for a second, and it immediately connected.
It worked totally fine on FHD+ though, it must be a bug. Hold it on WQHD+.
Thank You!
Yes, that worked. Thank you. I wasn't sure exactly what you meant when you said you have to hold it down but it's long hold. If you long hold the icon on the phone when selecting the Samsung smart TV, then in my case I got a request for a validation code which appeared on my TV. It worked. I have the same problem with the Galaxy note 8, and the Galaxy S8. This is definitely a bug, because it actually said it was connected. But then it would time out and the Screen Mirroring on the TV would stop. So glad you came up with the solution. Thanks for sharing with us
If you send a video from notes 8 to the Smart Tv to you is it fluid? To me it jams and then it takes back.

This is the whole reason, scratch that, one of the big reasons (among so many) why the note 8 will be the last Samsung device that I purchase. I have a Galaxy S5 that screen mirrors with audio to any TV. I also have a Galaxy Grand Prime, which is a mid level device, rooted with oreo on it and it screen mirrors just fine.
This is now why I have just firmly decided why I'm gonna root this device and put oreo or pie on it, chalk the rest all up to experience and call it a day. Screw the Samsung software. The next device will be a one plus or Pixel or lastly maybe Motorola. Unbranded and boot loader unlockable. Never again will I deal with a company that wants to double their prices on devices in just two years till they are now $1000 and then eliminate so many features that the hardware is more than capable of thus making your device half as appealing as other flagship devices. Handcuff you and locking the boot loader up tight so you can't do what you want to do with your device you spent a $1000 on. That is all just discussing to me. Big business wanting you to pay more more astronomical dollars all the while wanting to control you and your device more and more. So long, and nice knowing you Samsung but I never really believed in or bought into your marketing and business model.

I actually like Samsung Electronics but I agree with you here. This is my last phone from Samsung because I don't like the fact that it's locked down like that.. What also pisses me off is the fact that Samsung is USING Android as their operating system and Android is OPEN SOURCE software and Samsung shouldn't be taking an open source software and then locking it down! That's like buying a car and then taking the name of it off and putting your own brand name on it and that's not right at all.
