So I have seen videos on YouTube that have the hd2 running Ubuntu. Is there a way to run windows 7 (not windows mobile 7) or XP and use a USB hub to plug in a keyboard and mouse? This would be insanely awesome! Now YouTube also has two videos running windows 7 but I have a feeling they are either themes or remote desktop.

You're better off getting Ubuntu to run on the HD2, which is already possible. Windows 7's touch-friendly features are also pretty demanding. It would be a bit overwhelming, even for something with the HD2's specs.

win95 working , tested myself , but w7 .... i don't think so
I had Win95 on mine too......I just don't think the HD2 can handle the standalone PC version on Win7. Too make fake videos on youtube....probably this is one of them
windows 7 32 bit would melt the battery the demand for power would mean you could not have it unplugged at all im also sure you would need a big memory card cuase windows 7 needs at least 2gb ram to run and probably a good 5 gb of hard drive space wich would probably mean mutiple partinions on the sd card and thats just to start

Well honestly u cant compare netbook and HD2. Why? Because the CPUs got different architectures and that mean 1GHz in netbook isnt the same as 1GHz in HD2. Other thing is memory u got 1GB and HD2 512MB, well I guess for win 7 start, it would be enough, but still u have to boot the system and that is gona take a lot time. Not worth it, better remote access.
But there are already Windows 7 with tuch support on laptops because some laptops support touch screen on theirs LCD
Windows Vista/7 does not support the ARM processors used in mobile phones as they are not x86 devices. A netbook does use a x86 variant as a cpu and therefore can run any flavor of windows up to and including Windows 7
Well, win95 and 98 works fine on my touch pro and this is not a fake, but not really usefull and takes long time to boot, do not expect playing original price of persia on your phone. I have tried a great heroes of might and magic boot img file that has a minimalised version of win95 with touchscreen drivers, that do not have any UI and just loads the game. I wonder if anyone could possibly take a look at that file and say what files should be extracter in order to add touchscreen support to normal windows images? XP would be nice, but don't forget that emulator always runs MUCH slower than original system, so...
When the OP says they have seen "W7" on the hd2...... I think they are confusing "Windows 7" with "Windows compact embedded 7".........

Probably, it's can turn on but you have black screen and noise. Need's GPU reballing. You can't do it yourself.
Pavillions are so crap, I have many clients with GPU problems.
If it's not GPU, describe your problem.

It don't think it will work very well, even though android now can run on normal x86 CPUs, check out the Android x86 Project. The problem are the drivers, you can't just use the windows/linux ones.
I hate hp. I use a hp DV6000. Pos laptop. Thinking bout getting an alienware soon or maybe a macbook pro and run it as a vm with win7.

To answer your question, it's quite unlikely that you can do anything with it now. What you're asking for is too far fetched at the moment. It's not easy to port a perfect working version of Android to a computer.

Since early 2012 when Canonical announced Ubuntu for Android I've been drooling and waiting for the perfect tablet to install it on. Now I have Tablet Z, but find out there's very little written or said about Ubuntu for Android since last year.
Does anybody know if the source codes were released? Whether it's even possible to port it to Tablet Z? If something similar will be coming?
I don't really want to go with Ubuntu Touch (not that anyone is dev-ing for it on this device), I'd ideally want android base and proper Ubuntu desktop when docked to a monitor.

Sadly no it has become vapourware nothing as ever been released, but if you looking to run ubuntu and android at the same time, check out my sig.
Our project (LinuxonAndroid) aims to do the same type of thing as "Ubuntu for android", but not limited to just Ubuntu!

I've tried to run this on my tablet and it didn't work, i believe that the problem was related to kernel not supporting loop devices (I was rooted) and there is only one custom kernel but is not for all the devices so it's harder to do this but of course easier than porting ubuntu touch lol.

But yes adjusting my project to run on the Z will be much easier than porting ubuntu touch for sure

That sounds great, i hope you can achieve that because a 10.1 tablet with Full HD+ running ubuntu with a bluetooth keyboard that would be very helpful for running advance applications.

This is what I've been using actually. I even donated so I can use the widgets.
The problem I have with it is that the GUI is laggy through the VNC, I was hoping for something as smooth looking as in the videos from last year. Perhaps you can make a recommendation on how to improve performance? A lighter package perhaps?
Also, I was hoping to install a local web server and IDE for working when travelling (I develop Ruby on Rails apps), not tried it yet, is it going to be waste of time trying or should i just suck it and see?

This does work on stock kernel. As I say above, I use it on a completely stock ROM/Kernel. I did experience what looked like loop incompatibility but it disappeared when I re-downloaded the img. Can't remember if I tried a different image but anyway, I got it to work on stock.

I system details says 12.04. I definitely downloaded the full package, and I believe I tried 13.04 the first time (which didn't work on my 5" Z either).

The refresh rate in android VNC is not great. It makes work slow. Not done any real work from the command line yet, in fact, not done anything serious with it yet. I'll try to load a rails environment on it later.

Thank you!, back on 2011 i put Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Galaxy S2, and i was able to setup a django environment and also postgres, and it was working, a django website running on my phone, lol.

Then there is hope for me yet.
If you want any other screens just say. I found using an org mouse/keyboard gives the impression of more responsive interface but it still on the slow side. Maybe I'm spoilt by my haswell i5 with 12GB RAM.

Oh so you already has a haswell, that's nice. I've a Macbook Pro Retina 15.4 with 8GB RAM and Core i7 third generation + 512GB SSD mid 2012, but well i want a haswell because the power saving features!
And yes, you should be able to run RoR on it, and get a working environment, it's good to have a backup work system lol.
Also it sucks that even using a local connection is giving you slow refresh rates.
Check this: Oracle Java for ARM i don't use java at all but some of my preferred IDEs are based on java, like PyCharm, WebStore, etc. it would be amazing if we can run those things on our mobile device.

The new HDHR4 should be coming soon (they said mid 2013 at CES), it is a network dual tuner that connects to your wireless router via ethernet ... you can then access the tuners on many different devices.
The new version is said to have a native android app, hardware transcoding and DLNA.. I can't wait, i will be buying it on day one.

The idea of HD Homerun is very interesting but I do not know if i will pay 100$ when my usb stick for pc costed 15$. I want a usb stick to be used in my house because i do not have a television in my bedroom or in my kitchen where i have a plug to connect a dvb-t.
I have seen a conceptronic device (CTVDIGANG) but i do not see any review and in the specifications doesn't say if it is compatible with our tablet. Has anybody tried this one (or other similiar)?
The app recommend by babylonbwoy has horrible reviews. Have you successed connecting your Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid Pro Stick 330e to your android?

Well the biggest problem with that app is that it only supports Android 3.1, at least that's what it says in the description.
There is a TVMan app that seems to have good reviews but I don't know if you can use it with any dvb-t stick and I don't really know much about dvb-t sticks...

True for bad review but it has at the same time 389 G+ recommendations... Don't know what to think.

In french translated playstore it looks like it says from 3.1 but not sure, and I don't find the change langage option in playstore new ui to check how is it in english. Last update is from july 9, again difficult to understand all that.

It states only for 3.1 in English, that's what I read it in the first time, hence my comment. I find it very odd that he has yet to update the app to at least 4.0 if it works in any way. The only positive review he had was when the guy tested it at his house, when he went to work (where he wanted to use it mainly) it didn't work because he had to forward ports (I think that's what he said) and even then it still didn't fully function. It seems really really sketchy to me.

No, he didn't delete it. He jacked the price up to $6.50 and changed the name of it so he could get rid of those negative reviews and sucker people into buying his app. It wouldn't surprise me of he has done this several times before. Here is his new link:

I am considering reporting him, I don't like to make a fuss but it was obvious his app was **** and didn't work at all and noe he has changed it to get rid of the reviews so he can make more money on people who don't know any better.

Now it has changed from the app only supporting "android 3.1" ,which there was no 3.1 only 3.0, to only supporting kernel version 3.10.

I wonder how people can try this in 15mn allowed by Google, he has not even a demo version, and if he change name of his app refund will be hard to get ! Not a good bet in long term, he will rip fews people maybe but negative review will come back sooner or later.

I did a bit of thinking after my initial pay and deleted him. I explained everything thoroughly so hopefully Google will do something. It would help if other people reputed him as well. I hate to see people lose their hard earned money to some scam artist.

DTV would be good but isn't having loads of wires defeating the object of have a small, lightweight portable unit? Out of curiosity I'd like to try with my USB DVB-T tuner but I don't think it's something I'd use all the time.
I set up a Mediaportal Server running from my main NAS which has a Dual DVB-S2 tuner. With a little messing I now have full live TV on the tablet anywhere. I got the 16GB wifi version so I use my phones 3G for it when I'm out and about. I also set up a web server running from the same backend that links into my Movie and TV show database. With Dolphin and the Flash plugin, you can get Live TV, Video, TV Shows and Music from your home server/NAS in a browser. The easiest way is to set up Mediaportal and MPextend, then just use aMPdroid on the tablet. It's not a 5 minute set up by no means but worth it in the end.

I have a Nova TD USB but I've not tried this direct in the tablet. My live TV comes via my NAS server.

Oh yes I'll try at some point. Trying to find a driver that will run it will be the hard part. Maybe when the CM people and Ubuntu really start digging into these devices we may get a working one but up to now I've had no luck. I have a few old USB types to try so I'm not limited to Hauppauge.
I must repeat what I said before though.. With the tools we have these days, there's no point in having bits hanging out of any wireless enabled device. The benefits just aren't there. I can get any UK channel on my tablet nigh on anywhere that has 3G if I wish. I don't worry about DVB-T/S signal strength as it's fed from my home aerial or dish. And as a bonus I get my film and TV collection too. From what you guys have said, you have the hardware and the software for both PC and Android is free so you might as well put it to use until it can be tested direct in the tablet.... Or that's the way I see it
I'll let you know if I find anything out and we will see if we can get one in the tablet running.

The reason is because Jide has left the consumer market, and had completely stopped supporting their consumer products.
Now they only work with enterprises.
Try Phoenix OS instead.

To say the truth, I had not gotten the chance to check Phoenix OS lately.
However, since you have a BayTrail CPU (those did not get much supportĺ I think that you're better off with the Android-X86 LOS or standard Linux (I highly recommend Solus, and the GNOME 3 UI has great support for touch displays), and even then, you will need to compile some of the drivers yourself (such as the touch driver for the screen, until you do so, you will absolutely have to connect a mouse and keyboard).

Thank you so much. I am checking your recommendations as i type this.
My other problem is the 1GB Ram. Which one of those you think will work best.
I am planning on connecting it via HDMI to my TV and running just 1 android app (hmdi audio/video is all i need). I don't care about touchscreen support.

My other problem is the 1GB Ram. Which one of those you think will work best.
I am planning on connecting it via HDMI to my TV and running just 1 android app (hmdi audio/video is all i need). I don't care about touchscreen support.

With only 1 GB of RAM, I highly recommend using Android-x86's LOS 15.1 (you will still need to compile the touch driver for the screen, and probably other drivers as well, including audio and HDMI.

You were right. I wasn't able to find LOS 15.1 but did boot 14.1 and though it did reboot on its own twice, it did finally load. It was however very slow.
I tried it on the TW801 which has 2GB Ram and it was more fluid. Touchscreen did work and so did Wifi. Hdmi audio was the bummer.
I have officially given up installing android on the TW700.....I don't think tje tablet is capable of running it well and even if it did.... HDMI audio will be a lost cause.

Wait, how about you try running a standard Linux distribution on it?
You may still need to compile the drivers, however there is a higher chance that things will work properly after running updates and rebooting without any compilations.
I tried ubuntu live...slow on the 700 better on the 801. I ordered an Android box..... should receive it today. Lol

Why such an old version?
18.04 has a much newer kernel (I think 4.14 or 4.15), and as such, has a much higher chance of working properly with your hardware (you may still need to compile drivers, however it's not too hard when people have already prepared the code and instructions for you), plus, it uses GNOME rather than Unity (which is discontinued by Canonical), which is at version 3.28, a release that brought many optimizations to system resources, so it should run more smoothly.
Also, when installed, it'll be be much faster, since the internal NAND is much faster than a USB drive, partly because of the fact that it ustilizes the SATA protocol, rather than the USB protocol, and partly because the chip is just way faster.
I thought that my limitation is the poor processor and the RAM. If I had a celeron it would fly.
These tablets are only good for the operating system they came with from the factory.

While an Atom processor is certainly no fun (I have an old Dell Inspiron mini 1018, so I know how it feels), it can be faster than you think.
That old laptop (it was also my first laptop) has a single core Atom CPU, from the N series (the N455), and I was running it with Windows 7.
While it does not have an OS right now (I accidentally broke the keyboard connector on the motherboard while testing RAM sticks for work (I volunteered to do this), and salvaged the hard drive for my desktop (I have 12 hard drives, and 10 trays, 2 of which are are for 2.5" drives. The hard drives were all, save for one, which was bought second hand together with the computer (the case was bought seperately), salvaged from old PCs that people had thrown away), it runs alright on Ubuntu (and slightly better on Solus), however you have a quad-core Atom, which also generates less heat (so less throttling), so it will run much better.
I am not saying that the OS will fly, after all, it does not have a core i3 CPU, however it will outperform your expectation.
