Custom Boot Animations for Rooted A71 on Android 10 - Samsung Galaxy A71 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Now that there is a bootloader unlock for formerly unlockable bootloaders ( see this thread: [Android][UNSAMLOCK] Bootloader Unlock for Samsung US/Canada Devices )
and if you are rooted I found the old way of customizing the Samsung boot animation no longer applied.
However it is not difficult to have a custom boot animation and shutdown animation. You still need to use Samsung .qmg files although there may be a way to use the more generic bootanimation.zip files but I haven't tried this ( Flashable Boot animation Zip support ) You can create your own .qmg files for there are quite a few floating around XDA and elsewhere.
The big difference on the A71 and I assume Android 10 and other new models is that replacing the .qmg files in /system/media no longer works. I tried that and it made no difference - still was seeing the crappy little AT&T boot animation.
All you need to know is the files you want to use now need to go here:
for bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg : /prism/media/carriers/single/ATT/media/
for shutdown.qmg : /prism/media/carriers/single/ATT/media/video/shutdown/
I suggest renaming your original files to something like orig.bootsamsung.qmg and so on and then copy your custom .qmg files into the appropriate folders as listed above.

You may also want to visit this thread to convert bootanimation.zip to .qmg files:

[Q] Custom Bootscreen on Vibrant

Is it possible to run a custom bootscreen on the Samsung Vibrant via stock ROM? I am operating off a stock rom (UVKA7) and the link below mentioned compatibility with running a custom boot animation. Problem is, I am having a hard time getting this to work.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...boot-animation-on-your-rooted-android-device/
The page mentions copying over bootanimation.zip to /system/media/ folder but I find no file in this folder, in fact, it appears the annoying boot screen is a bunch of images.
posible, yes
you would need to download a handpicked bootanim.zip. use super make sure to use R/W(from settings at main) and drop in in the system/media folder.
But this is only achievable through a rooted device

[Q] Replacing boot animation

I've tried following instructions for replacing the boot animation that say to go to system\media and replace bootanimation.zip. This doesn't seem to do anything. First, I don't have a bootanimation.zip file in that directory, just qmg files. And when I put bootanimation.zip in that file it has no effect.
Is there something I'm missing? I'm rooted, running the stock rom.

I believe you need a kernel which supports custom bootanimations. Try ChainFire's kernels on XDA.

Questions = Q&A
Bootanimation stock is QMG
To add a custom boot animation you require a kernel that supports it .
You would be far better off reading the FAQS and Guides before attempting to do stuff that may brick your phone and leave you with no warranty .

meh, not worth the trouble to replace the kernel. It's strange that the four tutorials I looked at that detail how to install a custom boot animation never even mention needing anything other than root access. No mention of kernels or custom roms, etc.
Did anybody ever figure out the qmg format? I saw a couple threads on it, but they're from 2010 and never seem to get beyond decoding the file header.
No free editor found for QMG files .Though at least one modified QMG posted on XDA .

Boot Animations for 2014 moto g

Caution:::: I have today (1-18-2015) heard on the rumor mill that Motorola have used a new binary in the 5.0.2 update, this binary affects the boot animation. In effect it may only allow animations made in an mp4 format to work and causes a system crash if using the old, tried and tested format of frames of jpg's or png's. This of course fits in with Motorola's own animations which are mp4's. I can't vouch for the fact that it may be possible to overcome this by changing permissions but it seems that the new binary will have to be installed. In view of the fact that all my animations up to now are jpg's and png's I would strongly advise you don't install them on a 5.0.2 upgrade. I hope I'm being over cautious but I wouldn't want anyone to have to go through the number of re-sets that I have had to do over the past few days.
I've made a couple of animations for the 2014 moto g so over the next couple of days I'll post them to this thread in case anyone is interested. The usual disclaimer applies i.e. I am not responsible if installing these files causes your house to blow up, your cat to run away or your wife, partner or friend leave you for the next door neighbor.
This first one is CIA themed so I have made a similar bootlogo file in case anyone wants to go the whole way! The two files are easily identifiable by the names.
The "Logo" file is a flashable zip using any custom recovery (TWRP - CWM - Philz).
The animation zip has to be placed manually using any file manager you like.
First - go to ..... /system/media ..... and rename the bootanimation which is there to avoid it being overwritten. You can add the word "old" or "bak" or anything you like.
Second - copy the CIA-Anim.zip file to the folder ...../system/media ..... and then rename it bootanimation.zip
These files will work with KK and Lollipop O/S's and with all versions of moto g 2014 edition.
The PNG file shows you the Logo ..... The GIF file gives you an idea of the animation.
OK here is another one. Same as before all disclaimers apply i.e. house - cat - neighbor.
Logo file is "recovery flashable zip"
Anim file is put into ...../system/media ..... folder
JPG shows how Logo looks ..... GIF gives you an idea of the animation.

Here's one for the Marvel Fans.
Usual disclaimer and guidance applies
Logo is flashable in recovery ..... Anim rename and place in /system/media
JPG shows Logo ..... GIF gives idea of Anim
OK as before same disclaimer and guidance apply
Logo file is flashable in recovery ..... Anim file placed in /system/media
At the moment I am holding off from posting any further anims. Before posting I always try out new anims on my own XT1064 to make certain they work and there is no possibility of bootlooping for other users. Since updating to 5.0.2 I have found problems installing new anims i.e. continuous bootlooping causing me several instances of having to factory reset and re-install the update. Until I can determine whether this is a fault on my phone or is caused by the 5.0.2 update I won't post any more. As a possible related issue, I have found that I can no longer make alterations to the "build.prop" file without causing a bootloop and crash.

Samsung QMG Animation Boot - Post here as many as possible.

Galaxy Grand Prime Boot animations
As you know, samsung touchwiz new ROMs have a .qmg file format for their boot animations. This is a small tutorial on how to change your boot animations
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device. Make a nandroid backup just to be sure. I am just showing what you need to do.
You need to have a:
Rooted device
Aproximate knowledge
(Optional) Custom Recovery.
Well,okay.
This is what you'll need to do:
Download the boot animation in a zip form wich has the qmg files. Be aware that our phone has a 960x540 resolution.
(Optional) Make a nandroid backup if you don't have one.
Flash the zip file.
Now,wait probably 5-6 seconds on the"Samsung GGP Powered by Android " screen, the system searches for the animation and "cooks" it.
Optional,if no Custom Recovery is installed
Download the zip format file with qmg files. (probably you'll like to have ZArchiver,Es File manager or ay other file manager that you like)
Extract the files and replace them in the root/system/media. You'll see here your original qmg files, rename them .bak (eg. shutdown.qmg.bak) and change the permissions to rw-r-r.
Reboot and hope for the best.
USE THIS THREAD TO POST NEW BOOT ANIMATIONS.You can freely post here you bootanimations if those are yours,if not POST THE AUTHOR'S LINK here.
!!! do not use mediafire for your/public bootanimations since it corrupts files and that's the last thing we want.
bro bootanimation is easy, i need help whit bootlogo plissssssss

[How to] Restore Stock Boot Animation

Hi,
I own a Samsung Galaxy A5 (SM-A500G) running on Lollipop 5.0.2. I have recently rooted my device and have installed a Root Explorer. My aim was to change my boot animation. At first, I thought that I would replace the bootanimation.zip in system/media, but then, I couldn't find any zip file in there.
I had many files, but the only three which seemed to be related to boot animation were these :
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
bootsamsungmini.qmg
I am sure that I can also do it by flashing the animation in recovery mode. But, I also like my default Samsung animation. If I had found the original bootanimation.zip, I would make a backup and would be able to restore the original animation whenever I wanted. But, with no original bootanimation.zip, how would I do that?
Thanks..

Oh! I understood that. Newer Samsung devices like this don't support the bootanimation.zip. It uses the .qmg format. At least other people who have this query will be helped...
