Fingerprint reader issues - Samsung Galaxy S21 Questions

I am coming to the S21 from a Moto Z2 Play, which was a great phone until the slowdowns recently. I have to say that the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, while supposedly more secure, is a pain in the ass to use. I'm assuming by nature it is slower than the optical reader. Also, half of the time, it won't find my fingerprint or tell me it's the wrong fingerprint. And I do have my thumbprints in there twice for each thumb. Plus, I do not have a screen protector on at the moment. And don't get me started with it after I washed my hands.
Can anyone offer an suggestions on how to make it work better and more consistently? This truly is my first flagship as I believe in not paying over $300 bucks for a phone.

1.Use to two "slots for register the same finger" touch every corner with your finger,
also!
2.update to latest firmware it made my finger sensor alot faster, and instead of touching 3 time on average now its 1and alot faster
(another finger the i register once or not good is about 2 times )
im also came from capacitive fingerprint sensor (s10E) which was alot faster right from the box, barely needed to touch and was super fast
3.make sure you use screen protector that support that (usually the cheap plastic are fine)
silicon less good and 5D Glass will not work at all cause the glue only on the sides the middle dont really touching the sensor

I have my primary thumbprint in 3 slots I am on the most current security patch. I do not have a screen protector. I am still doing 3-4 touches to get into my phone. Odd thing, when I go the check my prints, it takes no effort to tell me which print it detects.
Oh well, I guess this is just something I will need to deal with. Thanks for the reply.

I have also the same issue ond my S21+. I need 5-10 times to open my phone.
Now I have my primary thumbprint in 4 slots. My phone is up to date.
I use a screen protector Link
900 $ phone...

Add me to the list of those for whom the finger print reader on the S21 is fairly sucky.
Sometimes, I use up my 5 attempts and have to use the pin to unlock.
If I go to the fingerprint registration part of Settings and test my fingerprints, they are identified OK and quickly. But not when actually needed to unlock the phone.
And I'm not using a screen protector.

Flame me now, but compared to s20 incredibly faster. I generally register more than one finger, thumb and even then same finger more than once. My only issues are when fingers are wet, dirty, or dried from sanitizer or over lubed. Otherwise vast improvement but pixel still wins.

My S21+ (T-Mo, NYC) fingerprint reader is much much better than the one on my S10 was. I have both thumbs and both forefingers registered and they all work quickly and reliably. I have no idea why it works so well for some, and terribly for others.

I won't flame you because I also noticed that the fingerprint reader on my S21 is ALOT faster than my Note20 which failed half the time. I was amazed at how big the difference is.

Sorry, wrong link, this should work link
On Germen site it's stand that it works
"An der Stelle wo sich der 3D-Sonic-Sensor (Fingerprint) befindet, wurde das Glas durch ein flexibles Acrylglas ersetzt, welches die volle Funktionalität des Fingerabdruck-Sensors gewährleistet und dennoch einen Schutz für das Display garantiert. "
"At the point where the 3D sonic sensor is located, the glass was recognized by a flexible acrylic glass, which provides the full capacity of the fingerprint sensor and has been given protection for the display."

I guess while using your right hand to navigate the G1, use the stylus, in your left hand to scratch that itch on your back with it??
Do not try this while driving
I believe the stylus is made specifically for the G1 and iphone. its not the same ones that other pressure sensitive phones have.
There are stylus' out there with the electrons needed for capactive touch screens to work (iPhone, G1, etc). I'm not entirely sure how they work, I assume it would need a battery... but maybe not.

However, highly doubt that the one from the OP is such an animal
Well it does say that the stylus works on the iPhine, too...
I had JUST been thinking 'wtf, why hasn't anyone made a conductive stylus?', and then I saw this post. Thanks!
And if you don't want the combo, but are getting g1 stuff, coupon code htcg1access saved me $17.70 off $58.91 of G1 stuff! It's like 30% off!
UPDATE AFTER RECEIVING THIS!!!!
Stylus DOES WORK!!! It does work with more force lol
To grag an icon or let alone drag it across the screen it iffy. Rubber on the screen. You can imagine.
Silicone "case" is ok. Could have been snugger.
Hard case it good once is it all clicked in but it makes the phone a whole lot bulkier. If you buy the clip seperately, it can be attached to your belt.
Chargers, can't have enough
Screen protectors, love them
So for the money, yeah its worth the package.
****, seriously? It doesn't work? Do you have an iPhone to test it on?
I had my mother order this because she can't stand not using a stylus. Looks like it's getting sent back.

I tried the "Stylus" again today. It does work with more force.
Hard to drag or slide across the screen though.
It's rubber that gives way. A pencils earaser form type.
does the hard case fit snuggly all around? i had one that i sent back because the bottom left side edge doesn't clip onto anything and came up a bit.
the whole set is in 3 pcs.
The back part
The screen part
and the keys part
the keys part locks into the back part, tightly
the screen part locks onto the the sliding part of the phone
What does the camera/speaker hole look like? I hope it's not a heart... >_<
It is, how else are you gonna get the lens and mic not covered lol
I thought I would be like the T-Mobile hard case:

Stick on with Matching wallpaper Cover

Has anyone treid any of these. Want to know if it covers all of the phone and how about a screen protector then and what the quality is like?
http://www.istyles.com/touch-pro2-c-292_489_698.html?page=0&sort=2a
That's very nice. I was searching for such a site. Maybe I will buy one for my Touch Pro2 and PlayStation3. I like the design of the covers.
When I buy some, I'll let you know!

GastJT
P.S. Sorry for my bad English. I'm Dutch, you know.
There was a thread on here about 6 months ago with a similar thing and one guy had pics where moisture had got underneath the the protector he had on and it made a right mess don't know if these will do the same tho
interesting that they give you a matching background... well thought out product for sure!
I just ordered the carbon-fiber setup. Will post my experience when it comes in.
thats pretty cool, gotta look into this lol
Got mine in today. About all these are good for is personalization and minor scratch protection of unimportant areas. The battery cover half only covers part way and will only protect from scratches when laying the phone down flat. The cutouts are perfectly positioned and lining the skin up is easy, but be careful not to stretch the thin material.
The front skin is less impressive. Unlike in the photos, it does not cover the chrome trim at all. It is exactly the same shape and size as a die-cut screen protector, but the screen area is open. If you use one of those types of screen protectors then this skin is little more than adornment. If you use the square-cut type then it has to be larger than the skin's opening, which is exact to the Tilt's viewable screen area. This means there will be some degree of overlap. You could cut a screen protector to fit the skin's opening, but the likelihood of getting it perfect and without gaps is not high. Again, be careful not to stretch it when applying, especially the very thin sides.
To get the included wallpaper you have to go to a website and enter a key that comes with the skin and verify your e-mail address used to order. It will then be sent in an e-mail. I tried to use it with SPB Mobile Shell and it was magnified and all pixelated for some strang reason. Didn't try it with Manila since I'm no longer using that UI.
I guess if you want a custom look to the outside of your phone, it's worth the $12 (with shipping), but don't expect a lot of protection from it. Also, when you pass a finger over the edge where it meets the device you can feel it. Probably won't be long before it starts lifting and getting all unglued or ragged.

Here's a fuzzy closeup of the edge. You can feel it when you pass a finger over it and it will probably be no time before it starts to lift. I've already got a ragged edge right where the stylus goes in from nicking it with my fingernails. I'll leave it be as long as I can, but I don't expect it to stay on too long.

[Q] Touchscreen for writing

Hi guys!
Got my Transformer Prime about 2 Weeks ago. Nice Device. Fast, smooth and good looking!
But i`m looking into using a stylus for notes in pdf documents. I have invested in a Jot Stylus Pro which is said to be the best passive stylus on the market. It works nice on the Ipad2 and ok on the HTC Desire.
On the Transformer Prime I got alot of dead spots. With root and TouchscreenTune i was able to fix that. but the wobbly lines kill every productive energy I got.
Having such a good Atmel Touchsensor i thought the TFP should have got rid of the wobblyline problem.
is there a fix? Is the Ipad the only device that gets it right? Something Android would be sooo nice! I really dont want to write every word in the size of the TFP`s full screen.
Or will the Atmel Active Stylus be on the market soon? Did anyone try that yet?
Thx guys!
found this a second ago... Active Stylus will not work with TF201! In the first answer the guy says that it is a hardware incompatibility! And as we see with other things...
Asus will probably not unlock bootloader... so there is no chance to work around... Asus has no interest in helping us... I hope they learn something out of this.

Have you tried playing with Settings->Filter Off value in TouchScreenTune (top right corner button)? You have to check Disable filtering box before changing that value, and after changing hit Apply button.
People have reported, that by choosing correct value, wobbly lines effect could be minimized.

No.
It is not possible, not even with TouchScreenTune, to correct or minimize the wobbly lines.
To verify. Set the width of the linedrawing tool to minimum. Place a ruler on the screen at an angle of 45 degrees. Slowly while applying even presure draw a diagonal line along the ruler (preferable using a stylus). This will produce a wobbly line.
I tried almost every notetaking or drawing program and almost every tweaking tool available. Unfortunatly to no avail.
I have asked Gary whether this is a hardware or software issue waiting on the reply.

Same in here. As a result of many positive and praising reviews about the jot pro, I've gone ahead and bought one. It was a huge disappointment because of too much skipping issues. I am wondering if there is another stylus that may work with TP fine for handwriting.
I'm interested in this thread.
Hopefully someone can post the best settings for TST. I've tried 30 and 85 for sensitivity and flickering, but I'm still not impressed.
C'mon T'former and Jot Pro.
Pretty sure s/w can fix it, but I don't know for sure.
Red is slow, even pressure with my stylus.
Green is quicker, even pressure with same stylus.

I think this is just capacitive screens in general isn't it, the way it tracks your finger? Since it's just a grid of "dot" sensors, when you move slowly you're bouncing from closest dot to closest dot, when you move quickly it just does more of an A to B kinda thing? I don't know much of these things.
*EDIT:
So much better on my phone... Maybe just because of the smaller screen though?
Testing touch screen
THis test was done by cnet on smart phones but I think the principle is the same for tablets.

Nice link, can someone else post a similar picture of their prime with the drawn lines. Maybe before and after touchscreen tuning.

Chose a Feature for the Note 8! (fngrprnt scanner under display useless?)

I keep reading in all tech news about how the Galaxy Note 8 will miss the "Game Changing" fingerprint scanner under the display (example article link below). I don't get it. And here's why:
A fingerprint scanner is a mean to unlock your phone. It's not an actual feature you use. It's not something that will give you a better experience when you actually use your phone. For example, if you prefer the iris scanner, or you don't even lock your phone, that's it. You won't even be using it. And you will not be missing on anything since it's not a feature based on usage experience. It's not even something that should be advertise as a "game changing" feature. It doesn't change anything.
There are way more important game changing feature that the Note 8 could have:
- Dual Speakers for better hearing experience when sharing music with your friends, or just listening to music when working or chilling, especially when you do not want to use headphones. Dual Speakers means stereo music experience. This is a true improvement.
- 4K Display would mean better VR experience without the screen door effect. Now that's an improvement I kept advertising in previous threads already.
- Dual Camera or even Stereoscopic Cameras for optical zoom and 3D shooting when needed. And even 180 degree 3D camera. Now that's "game changing". It gives you the option, if you wish so, to shoot in 3D or in 180 degree. It's something more you can do with your phone. It's a new feature.
But for some reason way beyond me, the whole tech media prefers to focus on a "Fingerprint scanner under the display"...
----------- One could argue that "Yeah but a fingerprint scanner under the display is also an improvement".
It would be naive to think so. Because it is not. A Fingerprint scanner under a display doesn't improve in anyways your experience when unlocking your phone. Let me explain:
There are no technical differences between unlocking your phone by pressing a home button with integrated fingerprint scanner or pressing an area of the display with a fingerprint sensor under it. For you it's the exact same gesture, the same "unlocking experience". You put your finger in a specific area, and the phone unlock.
In fact, it doesn't even make a technical difference if the sensor is under a home button, under a display, under a speaker, on the back of the phone, under the camera, on the side of the phone, on the top bottom left, very little to the right, yes right there, etc... You still have to put your finger on that area for the phone to unlock.
An improvement would be "The Phone Unlocks Wherever you Press on the Display". Ok. Now that would be an improvement I would accept to argue against. "Hey, wherever I touch my phone, it unlocks immediately". Now yes. This is an improved experience. I still wouldn't care for it, but i would accept it as an improvement.
But tech is not there yet. And you, pressing a specific area under a display or anywhere else, doesn't make any difference and is NOT Game Changing.
--------------- But enough of what I think. Maybe I am missing something. So that's why I started a Poll. Please vote and please share your opinions.
PS: Here's a link to one of the articles I am talking about. There are many like this one.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordon...ice-cost-expensive-release-date/#38711146202b
I could careless about finger print at the back, its bad but I will use the Iris scanner Or pattern its not a huge deal when you find alternative. I also do not care about 6 of RAM That much unless samsung figures out how to take advantage of it. I also do not care for 3300 Mah battery since the new processors are reducing power consumption and s8 plus taught us a lesson about lower mah with larger screen on time.
What I would love to see:
- Better battery life (6 Hours Minmum even on Full HD At least!)
- New S Pen features That are innovative
- Faster
- that it doesn't explode or suffer in water resistance test
- that it comes with 128 gb sd card gift
- That bixby some how interacts with the S Pen.
- The the S Pen got the ability to read Text for me.
Other Wise I am not really complaining no thing to complain in the Note 8 it looks almost perfect (ignore finger print that has an alternative or 4k because it drains the battery). as for Dual Horizontal camera samsung must have a reason for this. 4k sucks because VR Is pointless for me at moment, it will increase the battery and display resolution causing cost problems and battery drain for the back I don't care how pretty or ugly it is. it can't be any worse than the Note 5.
What I am loving so far :
- The fact it supports SD Cards. I am buying 200 GB SD Card with the 64 GB Model giving me a total of 230 GB Of Storage (because sd card will be 180 GB total and the 64 gb model will need about 10 GB Of storage for the Stock ROM). Pretty enough for me!
- The fact the screen is Huge and Bezeless Perfect to write on using the S Pen!
I am waiting until samsung surprises me with the Software features of the Note 8.
P.S : Here is the Rumored S Pen :

Ive long wanted to see front firing speakers in samsung devcies...would be awesome.
Now that apple sort of does it samsung should really step up.
I prefer the fingerprint sensor on the back ever since my nexus 6p but not up by the camera like on my s8 plus...its not bad but not ideal either
I didnt like the front sensors on my s6, s7 edge and note 7 because you had to press to turn the screen on then unlock which is stupid.

Accessories What screen protector do you guys use?

I am looking for a screen protector

- that supports fingerprint unlock
What did you guys buy? What do you recomend?
Using the nilkin ones, but they don't cover the full glass and has a black bezel. I usually don't like those with the bezels as they seem to have something to hide there. Switching over to a full glass with UV glue one in a week's time, fingers crossed.
the nilkin ones have no cutouts and fingerprint works perfectly. similar to the full glass one that i just bought.
both bought on my local ecommerce store, but here's the link anyway for the full glass one, https://shopee.sg/Full-Cover-UV-Tem...reen-Protective-Glass-i.262589788.13832922399

Thanks, I might get some nilkin.
Also please report back to us about the tempered glass with UV glue once you get it.
The nilkin one isn't really tempered glass though, and after some time, it yellows out but not too big of an issue for me, was just surprised when I took it out.
The UV tempered one feels great and I love that it does not have the black bezel. However, not sure if it is just this brand or me but the glue might not have cured well, and the edges are coming off.

However, everything else is working great. In fact the front camera is better when compared to the nilkin one which causes a bit of a flare, wasn't too sure if it was like that from the start since I don't use the cameras often.
So currently I have switched back to the nilkin one, and noticed that the provided kit is slightly off, you'd need to shift it higher a little and it would be great which was what I did.
I guess the quest for SP has come to a pause for now.
But I did go on a bit of a hunt for the SP and their review, and with this being a China phone, the best place to search was on Taobao, and see if I can find something similar on Aliexpress. Finds below.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004346010642.html - one of the top ones, and seems pretty decent but pricier, from SmartDevil
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003187657681.html - 50/50 on this since the description images were similar and all, but that's about it. reviews from a russian didn't seem too good though.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003142091232.html - this looks okay, in terms of review but it might be one of those which only has glue around the edges, and you have a thin gap between the glass and the phone.
Apart from that, some learnings for the UV application ones.
It removes very well, and pretty much like a regular SP, kinda just a bit more DIY where the factory doesn't set the glue for you and the protector sheet (pretty smart, and cost-saving for them IMO)
When applying the glue down, videos show to have one big puddle in the middle or 3 smaller ones along the long axis of the phone. You have to make sure that your phone is leveled and not tilted else it will just flow off.
You have to then accurately set the glass down, and not move it or even press on it as this is what causes the bubbles, I've learnt.
Thereafter, apply the UV for a good 10 minutes without touching the device.
For the bubbles, what I tried was pressing them out to the side, and trying to fill with more of the liquid but doesn't quite work as well. That's it for now.
