Lg G8x Unlock Bands - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

I have the At&t version using it abroad, unfortunately At&t decided to disable the 900MHz band So I dont have 3G, only 2G and Lte and since my carrier does not have Volte I cant receive calls while using my mobile data. Any way to fix this like I used to do with older phones like the nexus 5?

Why this forum?

I really don' t get why all the One released by differen US carriers need different subfora, supposedly because iirc the sprint variant is rather unique and you can' t flash variants from the other carrier or the international version on it but this forum only leeds to more confusion because T-mobile is not only a US carrier but also a carrier in many european countries which also brands the international device with their own firmware+logo on the back. I have no idea what will happen when you flash an american rom on a european tmobile One... see here for example a seperate One for dutch tmobile: https://www.studentmobiel.nl/htc-one?plan_id=465&plan_length=24&provider_id=1&renewal=0
Isn' t it possible to just include different development sections for the different carriers to a unified One subforum?
I think it's this way because there is less confusion and less chance for people to brick there phone because some people don't read before they go flashing roms. That's just what I think.

because there are carrier specific mods like wifi calling. the devs in the international thread were just nice enough to give us those options.

But the existence of this forum will lead to more confusion, T-Mobile is a German carrier which is a big player outside the US but this is a T-Mobile US specific forum not meant for the majority of T-Mobile users.

all tmo users can use this thread plus the international and at&t. all those phones are identical besides the carrier specific features and thats why there is a specific thread for tmo. wifi calling is only available for tmo if there was just one thread how many people would be asking why isnt wifi calling working for me. because your on at&t and it only works for tmo.

Can This Phone Do VoLTE?

curious to know?

no it is not about phone .. it is about your operator ... ask them if they have launched it yet .. what i know no one operator has HD voice yet .. maybe in korea or japan .. advanced tech countries..
so simply if u can have 4g then it is up to your OP which has it launched or activated.. otherwise no..
am on 4g and obviously when i make call it jumps to 3g .. crappy canny sound about 64kbps or maybe less..
I am on Metro PCS which is now MetroPCS/TMobile -same Towers etc.
MetroPCS was I think first to feature VoLTE long before the Merger.
This means we were able to surf the Internet while on a call , even play Videos while on a call and staying on the LTE Bands.
Researching the purchase of my Alpha I talked and texted with TMobile personnel etc and checked for proper Bands BUT was never reminded that many phones do NOT have the software for VoLTE.
So my Alpha 850 M does NOT do VoLTE on Metro/Tmobile because it does NOT have Software for this- it may be added with Android Lollipop.
THIS is the problem with most non Carrier Phones on Metro/Tmobile-I assumed it was just good matching Bands and my Alpha has the LTE Bands for Tmo BUT a phone needs the Software to do VoLTE .
I am not a Dev so feel free to correct this if I am not correct BUT I was surprised when I make a call
on Alpha to see the LTE indicator drop to 3G as soon as I make a call and no simultaneous Internet
BUT when H+ kicks in, sometimes very fast sometimes not I can be on Internet or even Youtube while on a call and the H+ is pretty fast.
I am playing around with the Settings to optimize
the switching having NO idea what I am doing just trial and error, lol.
There is a SLIM chance that there IS a Kies Download or a enable feature buried deep within the Alpha but I doubt it.
Yes, I am using Galaxy Alpha SKTelecom model, and i can use VoLTE. So it depends on your carrier, I think. Thanks.

I get VoLTE on my T-Mobile Galaxy Avant in my area, but I do NOT get VoLTE with my Galaxy Alpha. That seems to point to the device.

Yes because the Avant is a Tmobile/MetroPCS Phone it has that feature in it's Software to utilize that feature on TMo/Metro Network.
I am NOT sure if ANY Smartphone is smart enough to have VoLTE across multiple Carrier Networks- I think this is Carrier Specific .
However I have read but not confirmed that Lollipop may feature VoLTE.
If Alpha was a Tmobile phone it would have VoLTE on Tmo/Metro Network. But it is not a Tmobile Phone.
Does ANY unlocked phone do VoLTE on TMobile ? That is the question.
Hi
I am not able to activate volte in India with jio volte. Jio provides volte. Kindly help me to activate volte. I am using sm-g850y.

carrier aggregation issue on xiaomi phones

hey everyone, I'd like to open a discussion about getting carrier aggregations on our phones, as you already know many of us can't get this feature that's already been implemented on our carriers in many countries or in some countries one carrier does and one doesn't. it's called LTA-A, LTE plus. 4G Plus network
I saw a post on reddit and I quote :
"TIL : Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) doesn't support Inter-band CA
Recently, I just bought a carrier aggregation enabled operator's SIM card (Digi) to try out this phone's CA aka LTE-A aka 4G+. For your information, I live in Malaysia and you could look up for this operator in this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks_in_Asia. To my surprise, there's no 4G+ icon show up so I'd decided to look up for more info on Chinese MIUI regarding this. Users that are able to access 4G+ are all China Mobile users and China Telecom users are not able to. China Mobile had intra-band CA and China Telecom had inter-band CA and hence I came with a conclusion, this phone doesn't support Inter-band CA."
which makes sense to me, as the carrier in my country which is Iran uses Inter-Band CA and won't work on my phone which is kenzo(rn3).also none of the xiaomi phones work either (entry level to flagship ones)
so, does anyone have the knowledge to tell me and the others that is it possible to change Intra-Band CA to Inter-Band CA? or is it the hardware that should be changed in order to work?
note : LTE bands aren't the issue here, both carrier and phones support them.
@TheStrix @flar2 @franciscofranco @MEGAX91 @billchen1977 @dadi11 @psndna88 @xyyx (please don't mind the order)
any suggestions regarding this issue?
@MEGAX91 I believe you were successful on your device(kate). is there a complete guide for everyone that could follow?
I'm desperately looking for a reasonable solution

There are very few operators which allow carrier aggregation.... Standards are there to implement in their network but mostly they are pretty expensive for them to bring live... May be in future, we may have

No ATT HD Voice on unlocked S9+

Hello,
I just bought the S9+ unlocked today at best buy. I love the phone and I opted in for unlocked version so that I can root the thing later if I wish.
So, I would really like to have the HD voice option, but I found out that you need a carrier phone to be able to have wifi-calling and hd voice. My parent can hear me great on their end (they have iphones) but on my end I have the same old ****ty voice quality.
Is flashing ATT firmware (and getting their bloatware) the only way to get the option? Right now, when I go into settings-> connections-> mobile networks, the option isnt even there.
Reason is the same as I posted on a different thread. Flashing at&t firmware will not fix the problem. Subsequent comments in the thread may be of interest.

Ouch. That sucks. I read somewhere that tmobile and sprint don't lock unlocked phones out of their volte and wifi calling. Does Verizon use same tactics as att or will they make it available to me as well?

Yeah att doesn't have volte on any unlocked Phones. I put a sim in my Sprint S8 and it dropped to H+ during the call where TMO and vzw stay on VOLTE on my phone.

Same issue in Canada - Carrier Unlocked device purchased do from Samsung & none of the Canadian Carriers support VoLTE or WiFi Calling - This is extremely unethical on the part of the partnership between Samsung & the Carriers! We all know that the Carriers are Samsung's biggest customers - But to make key features unavailable is unconscionable! ?

T-Mobile and Verizon customers both get VoLTE on Samsung factory unlocked phones. AT&T restricts by IMEI (as well as requiring their firmware). Sprint does not yet offer the feature at all on their network. It is unclear whether unlocked devices will get it once they do deploy it. Time will tell.

Question International version Xperia Pro-I not support 5G in the US?

I purchased a Xperia Pro-I in China, it says support 5G but I got no 5G connection in the US. I am using T-mobile

Seems about right. The USA, unlike many countries, uses some **** exotic type bands that the international models simply don't require. Therefore, carriers like T-Mobile and whatnot simply won't allow it to run (and in some cases flat out block it, even if enabled).
USA being funny as always (and carriers screwing people over)

Aren't these missing bands a hardware issue?

Correct. The root and enable part only kicks in when they blacklist your device from their bands when you have access to them, or when they block stuff like VolLTE and whatnot
