Huawei Health vs Google Fit
Fitness tracking is a very popular use for smartphone users. Your smartphone is filled with sensors that are able to help developers make great apps that can improve your fitness routine. This can range from counting your steps to tracking your workout routines over a long period of time. A good fitness app should also be compatible with different workout products, like fitness trackers and smartwatches.
For people that have GMS-compatible phones, Google fit is a health app solution that might be good for you. For anyone that has an HMS phone, the Huawei Health app is available. Let's compare the two and see if they're any good.
Google Fit
Coming from Google, this app is predictably compatible with plenty of different types of hardware on the market. Most noticeably, Google Wear OS is the most popular OS found on fitness devices. However, this OS has never really been a favorite among fitness enthusiasts. The entire Google Fit system may have a lot of bells and whistles, but this can easily be overdone, which results in a bloated system.
The fact that Google Fit links with your Google account make it easy to set up, and link it with all of your different devices. The UI is easy enough to use, and most of the features can just track your activities in the background. Overall, Google Fit is a good fitness solution, but far from one of the best.
Huawei Health
I love the Huawei Health app and I have found myself using it as a replacement for Google Fit. The main reason is simplicity. Huawei Health can instantly start tracking your steps in the background and give you daily reports. Huawei Health does not require any sort of setup to start tracking your steps, but once you enter in your information, you'll unlock an amazing set of fitness features.
The UI is the best part about Huawei Health. You can see so much information at a glance. When I'm working out, I want to spend as little time as possible interacting with an app. Huawei Health does this very well. When using Huawei Health with my smartwatch, I can go for a run or a walk, and review all of my stats when I'm finished. It's as simple as it gets.

For people that are hardcore fitness freaks, they might want the extensive features of Google Fit, but I've found myself going with Huawei Health due to the simplicity of the app. At the end of the day, your workout is what matters most, and if an app is taking time away from your workout, it's not the best solution.
Interesting.

We are Ken and Houtan, two developers building a personal trainer AI for wearables. Over the past year we've built out tech that can automatically recognize a user's exercises, like bench presses and squats, if they are wearing an Android Wear smart watch. We are launching the beta program for our app, YouMove, and are inviting members of the XDA community to join. We would love your comments and feedback on what we've done and would be thrilled to hear your suggestions on what we should do next!
Apply for the Beta!
We recently added the ability for the app to learn new user exercises, which we are really excited about!
Other features we are currently testing:
- Automatic, passive recognition of weight training, calisthenics and cardio exercises
- Tracking of exercises, reps, sets, resting times, calorie counts, and intensity
- Detailed display of a user's workout in a timeline on watch and phone
We know the XDA community can provide some great feedback on what we've made so far. Thanks everyone!

This looks really cool! I've been tracking my workouts using Google Sheets for a while now, but if this works, I could totally see it replacing that. I'll let you know more of my thoughts after I sign up for the beta and try it out a bit, but I was just wondering if there is a way to see your progress by exercise type in some place on the app. I've always roughly guessed how I've improved over time at, say, bench press, and I know that I can do it now if I really wanted to, but it'd be really cool to have it readily available on the app.
Looks interesting, may take it for a spin!
Where is the link for download? Also:
1. Will you be having only dark color for the app?
2. Does it support Android Wear independently without the need of the phone?
2.1. Does it support the internal GPS of Sony Smartwatch, for instance?

Click to collapse
Current it is a closed beta, so once you apply we will send an email with a link.
1. We are switching to a lighter color UI on the phone. Sticking to a dark color on watch to conserve battery life.
2. Yes, it works on the watch independently of the phone.
3. At this point it doesn't support GPS. Right now we are primarily focused on weight training and calisthenics. But when we do hit cardio, we'll make sure to use GPS on the watch.
I'm interested in trying this out. How's progress on the app?
Link not working
I would love to participate but the link is not working
I would like to apply for the beta but the link is not working.
I mostly go sporting/gym 3 times a week.
Can i get a beta because i was searching for this kinda app ?
Thanks !

Because smartphones are now ubiquitous among children, phone addiction has become a key concern for many. Parents are often particularly anxious about their child's phone use, as excessive screen time can affect their children's academic performance, damage their eyes, and expose them to explicit content. Some studies even suggest that constant phone use can impair creativity and social skills in the long run.
Promoting Healthier Phone Usage
Fortunately, Huawei devices provide a Digital Balance feature to alleviate these kinds of concerns. With Digital Balance, you can stop your child from accessing unsuitable content in HUAWEI Music and HUAWEI Reader (or HUAWEI Books). You can also filter the websites that your kids can see in HUAWEI Browser, and by specifying an age limit, you can set Child mode or Youth mode to automatically activate in HUAWEI Video, preventing your kids from watching age-restricted content. What's more, your children will not be able to install apps without your permission.
Scheduling Screen Time
If you're worried about your children spending all day on their phone, you can limit their total screen time for the day, or restrict access to certain apps. You can set duration limits for specific apps too, or schedule a set time where they can't use their phones. These options are a great way of setting some digital ground rules for your child, and making sure they take a break from time-consuming apps like games, video platforms, or social media.
How to set up Digital Balance
On your child's device, go to Settings > Digital Balance, and select My child to enable the feature. Follow the onscreen instruction to set up screen time restrictions, app limits, away time, and more. You can also set a password and security question, to let your child know that you are serious about these boundaries.
Digital products have become a part of life for kids today, and many find it hard to leave their phones alone. With Huawei devices, you can help your child to balance their screen time with reality, so they can focus on things that really matter, like school, family and friends.

PeakLens on HMS vs GMS
PeakLens is an app that lets you explore mountains and peaks using AR. By pointing your camera at a mountain, you'll be able to learn more details about it. It's a good tool for anyone who loves to explore the outdoors and go mountain climbing. PeakLens uses artificial intelligence to estimate the position of nearby peaks. It is designed to be used with mountain peaks that are visible from where you're standing.
So how does the app PeakLens work on GMS as opposed to HMS? Let's take a quick look and find out.
PeakLens on GMS
On your first launch of PeakLens, you'll be taken through the quick setup process. The app requires several permissions from your GMS phone, including camera access, photo, and video recording access, and location permission. To begin using the app, you'll calibrate the compass by waving your phone in a "figure 8" motion.
Once the app is running, you'll be able to point your phone at visible mountain peaks and see their names and elevation. Your preferred unit of measurement can be changed in the settings section. The app works as it's supposed to, being a very simple way to gather quick information about your surrounding mountains.

PeakLens on HMS
Getting this app for your HMS phone is simple, as it's hosted on the Huawei AppGallery. During the setup process, the HMS version of the app was able to calibrate much quicker than the GMS version, finishing about 15 seconds before the GMS version. This is significant since the app requires you to calibrate it every time you use it. Those additional 15 seconds save you a lot of time.
Since the HMS version of the app is made primarily for the Chinese market, you'll find that the names of targeted mountain peaks are shown in Chinese. Right now there isn't an option to change the language in the settings menu of this app.
With PeakLens running on HMS, you can expect it to function just as well as the GMS option. The app does not suffer from the lack of GMS, but rather it benefits from better performance on HMS.
Interesting. But it need an option to change the language.

It's a very good news.
With the release of EMUI 11, Multi-screen Collaboration has received a comprehensive upgrade, with many fascinating new features. Of these, the most exciting is perhaps the ability to open multiple windows on a single computer screen. This new future has been made possible by a further upgrade to the distributed capability, which is a feature of HUAWEI Mate 40 series devices running EMUI 11. It breaks down hardware boundaries between individual physical devices and creates new device forms using software. By imbuing technology with intelligence in this way, it provides a convenient smart life experience for users.

Multi-screen Collaboration now enables you to open up to three windows on the computer at the same time. Imagine that you're taking an online course. With Multi-Screen Collaboration, you can open three windows at the same time: one to view the course itself, one to make notes on Notepad, and one to chat to your classmates. It's no wonder that this feature has remained consistently popular since it was first released!
A super assistant for work
Multi-screen Collaboration really comes into its own when it's time to get some work done. You no longer need to keep switching between separate apps to perform different tasks. Instead, you can open three windows at the same time, and drag and drop files between them. Three windows means triple the efficiency!
Shopping has never been easier
In the past, shopping online meant endlessly switching between different apps to compare prices and reviews. It was exhausting to be confronted with all this information. Now though, thanks to Multi-screen Collaboration, you can now open several shopping apps on the computer at the same time, and compare information easily.
A more flexible video experience
If you get a call while you're watching a video, you generally need to exit the video, open WhatsApp, and reply to the message. This can be really annoying when you're in the middle of a video. Now, with Multi-screen Collaboration, you can watch videos and chat to your friends at the same time.
Try Multi-screen Collaboration now, and discover a smarter way to live and work.
