ATT V60 won't update - LG V60 ThinQ Questions & Answers

I can't update my ATT phone I'm stuck on June security patch everytime I try it won't download and shows the update could not be installed I got the phone thru ebay I have a ATT sim card activated with data plan.
Does anyone know what can I do ?

Make sure your bootloader didn't get unlocked somehow. I it was a Verizon phone probably needs for them to unlock it.

No, is an ATT phone from what I know only European devices can be unlocked !

Have you tried pushing a manual update through LG Bridge (or is it LG UP?), which lets you flash pre-downloaded software updates using a computer?

[Q] Confused (like usual)

I have the US Cellular version of the photon (electrify). I believe I upgraded to 2.3.5 but I don't fully remember, and proceeded to root. I however did not have my battery fully charged. As I was late to some print on the how-to-root page about keeping the battery at one hundred percent. So now my phone is stuck in Failed to Boot 1 when powered on. When power held with Vol up it goes to Fastboot and when held with Vol down it flashes then shuts back off. SO, my question is... do I need to unlock my bootloader or do I have to flash a stock sbf and all that jazz? Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated, including locations of any files or drivers I might need or just a simple point to a thread that will tell me everything I need to know.
I've just confirmed it is 2.3.5 locked bootloader stock everything but I did use the OTA update. Is that bad?

Well I've brought the phone back to life using peetrs thread. Now does that mean I have to switch it to Sprint services like it says in his post In order to get it to run on prepaid? It works fine now but I cant get it into recovery or download mode. The screen gets stuck in fastboot protocol, so im assuming Ill have to flash his custom recovery and a sprint sbf radio in order to get Sprint prepaid?

You can just slip in an activated pre paid sim card and it should work. Sprint doesnt have prepaid, if you're trying to use sprint just flash the sprint radios. As far as not being able to get into recovery, what did you do prior?

I flashed the 1FF-Sunfire sbf for stock 2.3.5 and it rebooted the phone but peetr says that you have to add a bootstrap recovery and flash a sprint radio aswell as another rom but I dont need to do anything special to the phone I just had this one and decided to fix it. I thought sim card use was only for outside of the US? I know I can get it on a standard pre-paid plan but i'll have to find out monday if it will work, I mean when a dial a number into the phone it tell's me I need to purchase a pre-paid pin and it gives me different types of plans? My plan is just to go and get it on US cell pre-paid for 65 a month.

Issues with updateing to 4.3 and loosing Unlock

is anyone else having the issues that when they update there GT-I9300 to the newest update that they are loosing there unlock.
i have a phone that a client just dropped off and i guess he ran a update via Kias and after the update the phone will no longer except his sim card and the device is saying it is locked again
Firmware after EMG4 introduces v2 efs folder, which breaks previous unlock patches. No way around (that's why they did it) so you'll need an unlock code.

even if it was bought as a factory unlocked phone. guess i should of included that in the OP
'Bought as' and genuinely factory unlocked are two different things. If the phone is an unbranded handset bought as unlocked then you have a warranty claim, my unlocked phone went to 4..3 without issue.
You originally said "losing their unlock" which sounded like the more common case of handsets sold as unlocked, but only by patches which no longer work.

well the phone was bought out of the US as a factory unlocked phone. and the client ran some update via Kias. and after it booted up it would no longer take his net10 sim card. so i flashed it back to the UK unbranded 4.2.1 OTA and i am still getting the same msg asking for a unlock code.
when i run galaxysim is states that the phone is completely unlocked. and if i open the service mode menu to try and unlock that way the last menu is empty.
i have herd of the S3 getting this new region lock this but im not sure if that is what it is or if something is just really screwy. i have tried many diffrent version of the OTA. 4.0.4, 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3.
if i go back to a update before july 2013 i run into the issue with the EFS folder so now i have the july 2013 UK BTU 4.2.1 OTA on the device. and im just not sure what to do anymore minus tell the client that he might have to buy another unlock code.

Will flashing my t-mobile s5 reset my sim unlock?

Hello,
I live in India and I purchased t-mobile s5 online and it already came unlocked and rooted. It was a bad esn set. I don't know how the previous owner unlocked it, but it was just 1 week old. So my guess is, he didn't asked T-Mobile for unlock code, but rather used some online services. Also, I'm unable to update my s5 via OTA and Kies method. While trying to update via OTA method, the following error message pops up:
"The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Samsung Kies on your PC, or visit a customer service center."
And while trying to update it via Kies, it simply fails with a error message.
So my question is, while upgrading my s5 (to android 5.0) via Odin method, will I loose my sim unlock? Will it revert back to being region locked and I would have to purchase an unlock code?
Thank you.

It does not update via OTA because it's rooted. If he used the network unlock code then is should be safe to upgrade via Odin. If it's properly network unlocked it's very hard to lock it again. Rooting and flashing will not affect that.
Also, you can unroot (search the thread on rooting to see how to unroot) the phone and then it should successfully update via OTA.
Plus, if you have the contact info from the original owner you might be able to get him to send you the unlock codes. That way you would have them.

Oh! I see. Thanks for the info, but I'm not sure how he unlocked it.
I'm no longer in contact with him. I sent him couple of messages inquiring about the same about a month ago, but he hasn't replied me since.
I tried unrooting the phone, but it had no effects. I was getting the same error message.
BTW, I used "Kingo Android root" software to unroot it. But since it didn't worked, I rooted it again using the same software.

Haven't gotten the G8X, yet anyway, does anyone know if any of the methods the author listed above work, or is this site a known malware/scam site?
Not too sure, but the steps for unlocking the bootloader mention using the .bin file from an LG V40, so I'm not sure if it's legit or not...

Could you elaborate, which resources did you use and what was the process, also does this now mean you are able to install TWRP, if so, which exact version and then are you able to root through TWRP or ODIN?
Wonder if there's a place one can find out whether this would work on US AT&T locked version, will unlock, speaking of which, why are there videos out there talking about that there's a cost to unlocking carrier, isn't the unlock free and provided on AT&T's website, what's the difference in terms of privacy risks and $?
Thanks

Gotcha.
Did you go through the full process of unlocking your bootloader, or did you just use fastboot to get the device ID credentials and get an email from LG with the .bin file?
You got me curious!!
Does this mean that upon unlocking the bootloader, installing a different ROM, rooting, one unlocks also the carrier, or is separate issue and how come some pay money for it when it seemingly is free on the carrier website? Scam? Or how are these private persons able to unlock the carrier for you? Say AT&T -> Global.
Also, is TWRP always device model specific or is there an option which is compatible for multiple models, likely to work with G8X in this case, I'm assuming a G8X specific TWRP does not exist.

I don't think that matters, all commands are recognized, it's that AT&T has disabled bootloader, unless someone releases and exploit like this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671396
https://www.xda-developers.com/boot...s-been-found-for-the-sprint-oneplus-7-pro-5g/ - more recent
Can't do anything, as far as I understand it. So I guess no root, no twrp/recovery, no privacy. If these exploits are heavily model specific it will probably never happen with the G8X. Mainly I wanted to have root, de-google the etc. the phone with micro-g, and have twrp, hopefully customize roms, but I should have done more research beforehand.
Would be better if https://www.xda-developers.com/leaked-eu-proposal-smartphone-batteries-replaceable/ gets passed and soon So one can buy a phone at least somewhat worth buying, as we don't even own what we buy these days, communist beast system devices and all. What a crock.
But aleast people now will know that the guide is legit (?), thanks to our Bratan here (cpc), provided you don't have a carrier branded phone -> locked the bootloader.

I wonder if I can unlock the carrier from AT&T at least, the unlock portal at at&t says that it's still under contract or something like that, not sure what that means, will the guys contract run out in 12-24 mo and I will be able to unlock it through the AT&T portal or has he somehow bailed on it and it's locked forever.
I've also seen sites selling unlock codes, which this thing does ask for when I put in a different sim card, however I don't know if these sites are legit and if they work for never models like the G8x.
So that's where I'm currently at.

I'm not sure, I'm on Bell in Canada, and since 2017 all devices in Canada are sold as unlocked.
If you have an older device that IS carrier locked, you can get the carrier to unlock it for you at no charge.
I used to use a site to unlock devices, and the price ranged anywhere from $10 to $100 depending on the device, but I can't for the life of me remember what site that was.
That was back around 2012/2013.
Mine is also LM-G850UM, but I haven't tried the process of unlocking the bootloader yet.
I'm concerned that once I submit the device ID, it will void the warranty, and if it doesn't actually unlock the bootloader, then I've wasted the warranty for nothing.

Question Motorola x40 Chinese > Global rom transition

Hello,
After receiving my new Motorola x40 I realized that I wasn't able to use my GooglePay nor did it have other language support. So I decided to unlock my x40 bootloader via https://en-us.support.motorola.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your- device-a
It all worked. I managed to install a global rom with all the google apps and extra language support.
However, Global rom didn't allow my GooglePlay to use my cards or backup via googleOne since the flashing was unlocked. So I went to fastboot to " fastboot flashing lock". After which my cards were able to work.
After few days of using global rom I decided to go back to chinese one since I found it a bit easier to navigate.
So when I decided to go back to my old chinese rom, in "Developer Options" OEM unlocking says "Connect to the internet or contact your operator" and it is greyed out.
I tried using " fastboot flashing/oem unlock" in fastboot however it tells me that i need to unlock it in " developer options " first.
My phone has already been connected to wifi for around 90 hours on a Global rom And around a week before I transitioned from Chinese room over to global rom.
How long do I need to be connected to the internet or what operator do I need to contact to unlock my OEM again? Or maybe there is another way to unlock OEM without waiting?
Things I tried and failed:
1) Factory reset
2) Wipe/Cache reset via recovery3) "fastboot flashing/oem unlock" via bootloader
Global rom used: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/motorola/rtwo/official/RETGB/
Have same problem.

Ok so the theory is that once you get a global rom and "fastboot oem lock", it will act like new phone and will only unlock after 7-8 days. Guess will have to wait to test this theory out.

Any update whether you can toggle OEM Unlocking?
Also, as someone who have been using Moto phones from China for years, CN ROM is way way way better the Global ROM when it comes to features and software updates. One useful feature is the built in Motorola Wallet app where I can use my phone as keycard and transpo card.

It's possible that we won't get OTA, only will know for sure in the future, i'm in the same situation.
But you can always manually update your firmware with rescue tool or through ADB as long it's the official firmware. You don't need a unlocked bootloader for that

But I think this will erase all your data so it's not a real "upgrade firmware" method
I also found out there is an "software update" in the lenovo rescue tool
Maybe it's worth the shot to try this out too, but for me it's says I have the latest firmware already (which is correct) so I can't test it out right now.
