So without the ability to use Google Maps, Does HMS have any compatible apps that can compete? If you go to the Huawei App Gallery and search for navigation apps, only a small few will show up in the results. One of the only functioning apps I could find that had a decent amount of positive rating was an app called Offline Map Navigation. This is the best Google Maps alternative that I was able to find on the App Gallery. Navigation is the primary focus of this app, with the maps having a similar look to Google Maps. The app feels very familiar and is easy to use.
When it comes to navigating from point A to point B, Offline Map Navigation does this very well. Directions calculate quickly and accurately. The area that is lacking is real-time traffic data. You can get an accurate drive time to your location, but it will not warn you of traffic jams or accidents ahead. So it's more of a barebones version of Google Maps. It does the basics and it does them well, but many larger features from services like Google Maps are missing.
Business listings are just a name and location. The app is not able to offer reviews, photos, and detailed information about specific businesses. This simply is not possible without a massive userbase uploading information to the app.
There are clearly lots of opportunities for Developers to take advantage of the Map Kit to create great navigation apps for Huawei devices.

Snapchat has been one of the most popular apps in the world for a long time now. The app which features disappearing photos has evolved to a full-scale social media app. This growth was seen as the app topped the charts on the Google Play store and the Apple App Store. However, as newer Huawei phones were restricted access to GMS services, HMS Core was created in its place. Now Snapchat has been made to be compatible with HMS, making the app available to millions of more users.
So how does the HMS version compare to the GMS version of the app?

Snapchat is an essential app for communication and one of the most popular apps in the world. Upon getting a new phone, chances are you'll be installing Snapchat before anything else. Snapchat - HMS
On your first install of Snapchat from the Huawei AppGallery, you may be prompted to update to the latest version of HMS core. This is needed to make all of the functions of Snapchat available. This is a quick process that will take under a minute.
Once you have the app going, you'll notice everything looks the same as it does in the GMS version of the app. Snap Maps is still accessible, with the ability to allow or deny access to your location data. I found all of the filters were available, just as they were on my GMS device. Stories, videos, photos, calling and all of the same features work just all well.
Testing out the speed of the HMS version, I sent several snapchats in the form of photos, videos, and texts to another phone. All of them were delivered in the same amount of time that it took a GMS powered phone to do.

A message will appear that says "Canva won't run without Google Play services, which are not supported by your device". This message can be ignored, and you can continue to log in via email. However, the lack of GMS does seem to cause further issues with other features in this app.
Once you are logged in and find yourself on the main screen, you can select a template to start a new project. Unfortunately, this is where the next issue comes up. When trying to create a project from a template, you are shown an error that says "You are offline. We are unable to reach Canva. Please check your network settings and try again."
The last section where you'll run into errors is trying to use the premium subscription service. This requires GMS to manage your payments, so it cannot be accessed.
So even though Canva is available on the Huawei AppGallery, the app doesn't seem ready for HMS users. Hopefully, updates in the future will fix this.
