Firmware names? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Questions & Answers

This is a list of firmware files for vince. Can anyone tell me which firmware relates to which part of the device? Thanks in advance.

U don't need to unpack the zip, flash it only in the recovery

Thank you for the answer but I already know how to flash. I just wanted to know which file is which firmware. For example one of them is probably the baseband/modem but I don't know which one it is. I want to learn all of them but specifically the one that deals with the touch system may be enough. My phone has a weird touch issue. Touch rarely stops working for a few seconds. This is a used phone and It was same in the latest stock rom and continues doing so in a custom rom. It's not that annoying but I'm gonna try downgrading that firmware if there is any in that archive file. I hope it's not a hardware issue.

Latest baseband?
Hi guys, I'm still using the first oreo baseband (from 8.4.27 rom), has there been any new one with the recently released MIUI 10 developer roms? If yes, could someone be so kind and upload it for me? Thanks in advance!

[Q] Kernel from system dump?

Hello XDA Forum!
I’m a moderate ROM tester, and since I’ve recently had my device for almost a couple of months I’ve decided to flash with Odin the Entropy daily driver for my Galaxy player. However; it seems that the kernel has affected my player charging when turned off via laptop, and the battery life is draining faster than normal.
Thankfully, a moderator by the name of Shogunmark has provided a system dump that I’ve, and another member tested and noticed that the CWM kernel is still in tack after flashing. Is there a way we could take out the device’s stock kernel to override this custom kernel?
Please let me know, I'm sure I won't be the only person asking for the help to get back stock since other hyperlinks to stock doesn't exist anymore.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi,
I use this method to restore Kies stock kernel and ROM on my Galaxy player, maybe this can help you:
Since Kies don't let me reinstall the original ROM over a custom one, like ICS based (i don't know why), I managed to find a flashable Stock ROM for Odin. This version I found was an older version of real Stock, but after flashing that, Kies shows me an upgrade to the updated stock ROM which include even the stock kernel.
For the charging issue, the Entropy512 kernel has implemented a charging hack. You can read full tweaks on their page
Charginghacks - faster charging at low battery, slightly slower near the end, overall faster charging while trying to minimize battery stress

Problem with custom rom

Hello everybody, my device is a Samsung Galaxy S Duos S7652.
I am new at this whole rooting thing, i did my first rooting to be honest yesterday and i chose PMP Ultra custom rom, because it was the best rom for my taste.
Unfortunately i didn't know about baseband compability , and my baseband version was s7562xxlj3 , and now my phone cannot receive or make calls.
I need help, what do i do??
I cant even find my original rom so i can install that, or even a custom rom that supports my baseband..
Can you please help me?
Best regards, Alkis.

I think you are mixing some definitions.
Rooting is providing root capabilities to the phone, this is a standard operation in the *nix world.
Selecting a ROM is formatting the whole system and put a new one and you probably changed the kernel (hence the baseband problem).
Fortunately the phone is not bricked (unable to boot), so my recommendation is try to check if there are other kernels/ROMs compatible and change it.
Fortunately this showed while searching: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42182649&postcount=1708

I would recommend either restoring a NANDROID backup in recovery and if you don't have a backup I would recommend searching for your devices firmware here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/ and then flashing it via Odin. Let me know if you still have questions I'll be happy to help you out.

Reflash the stock firmware by going into download mode by pressing voldwn+Home+power and connect it to pc only when u have d samsng drvrs or kies installed on pc and firmware file too..

That's a bit of overkill if they just need the modem, unless it's not been separated out of the original full firmware to flash separately, or you need to update the bootloaders.
To dosadnik2001: Which firmware you need depends on which region the phone is from typically. Sometimes other modems from other firmwares work on unlocked phones, but best to stick with what you know should work right first.
What I do not understand is how the baseband firmware and the custom ROM are related?
I've found some post about changing the baseband firmware and there they say that the ROM doesn't care about the baseband, so you should only change it if there are some optimized baseband that can make your network coverage better. On the other side, I found several post claiming that certain ROM is not working because of the baseband firmware version.
Flashing firmware that is not for your region is again questionable for me. Doesn't this going to mess up somehow the microwave part of the phone and you can have some issues with the network carrier eventually?
Thanks.

No name android phones and CM

Hey guys,
Got on hands noname Chinese android phone with lollipop on board (even though it says 6.0.1 in settings) and MTK6580 quad processor, 3.10.72 kernel
can I somehow put cyanogen rom from another phone?
Yes, find another phone using that chip: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_devices_using_Mediatek_SoCs
Then go here: http://www.needrom.com and find THAT phone(s) and see if there is a custom rom for THAT phone also using the same kernal 3.10/3.12 etc
Download that rom and port it yourself using the boot.img from YOUR phone using this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-how-to-port-lollipop-based-roms-t3223938
And get it at least booting on your phone, out of loads I've done on MTK phones, 95% boot up first time, 50% of those have no issues, the other 50% have issues with cameras/wifi/video/phone that can be fixed literally with trial and error of swapping files from your stock rom to the new rom, can take hours/days of trial and error or could take minutes.
Have fun
EDIT: try to use a custom rom from a brand you have at least kinda heard of, doogee, walton, infinix...etc to make it more likely to work well.

Thank you for your response!
After few hours of research I have found many ROMs that are applicable for my phone. The thing is, I want it to be and look as close to stock android as possible, and as close to most recent version as well.
But still I have few questions:
1)Am I right by saying that kernel 3.10.72 is suitable only for android 5.x?
2)Is it possible to put android 6.x or 7.x?
3)If it is do I need to ugrade kernel?
4)Is it possible to upgrade kernel?
I really hope it's not too much to ask from you.

Your phone is basically the same as mine, and sadly the kernal has to be the same for every custom ROM, there are no kernel sources so no custom kernels, which means we are both stuck with lollipop
The infinix hot 2 for example, is the same MTK chip and was released with lollipop and kernel 3.10 but then infinix released a stock marshmallow upgrade, with a stock 3.12 kernel so they could get a custom 6.0 rom which im 99% sure we will never get.
If you go here: http://www.needrom.com/author/robneymcplum/ this is me on there, where I have ported the best 5.1.1 roms with our kernel. You will need to port to your phone, which is literally just swapping about 10 files from your stock rom so make a backup of your stock rom or find stock firmware, and get the files from there and use the guide i already posted.
Hope this helps. And if you have never done it, its way, WAY easier than you think it might be

Questions regarding Unlocked BL, Root and updating

Hi guys,
Although I'm not a totally newbie, I mean I installed Honeycomb on the OG Desire watch out for the volume tho, but I'm totally new to the Huawei thingq, although I've owned a Ascend Mate 7 and a P9+ I never went as far as looking for root and custom ROMs, and I'm specially not educated in the whole architectural changes that treble brings.
So I've a few questions, and hopefully someone can clear some of them for me.
1- Unlocked BL means no OTA right? Also not via Firmware Finder?
2- Running stock, if a new update pops up on the web, I download the .zip and extract everything. I can flash the systems but I'm missing lots of things there, fixes on the kernel, and other stuff. Should I flash them all? Is it recommend? Or are the risks to high? Should I wait for the specific rom to be signed for my IMEI or am I okay as long as I choose the right branding (Europe for me).
3- And having magisk root... Does will it make flashing a new update any complicated?
4 - (and the last), when running a AOSP rom, is it possible/recommend to extract a new stock kernel and flash it when an update is available?
Thanks a lot

Firmware update, how to, where and what?

Hi,
I apologize in advance for this question.
I'm new to this flash thing.
So first of:
Is updating the firmware to the latest one a good idea in general?
How do I find out what firmware I have?
How do I find the firmware I need?
Where do I still find firmware for these old phones?
Are there any benefits for updating all this before I attempt to install a custom rom and / or a custom kernel?
How do I actually make a full backup of everything if there ever might occur an error or mishap?
(Must guides I find online are awfully outdated or suggest software that may not actually work)
Thanks in advance
Sincerely
Julian
