Hi everyone,
I am having issues with my Samsung S3 i9300. I rooted the phone while using ICS OS, then updated to jelly bean today, via official update. Then unfortunately tried to install chainfire 3D and my phone is now stuck on the samsung sIII i9300 logo.
I have tried to wipe all the data by using volume up + home + power, but still no success.
Furthermore, I was trying to do a fresh install from a downloaded stock firmware from samsung website, but I do not know the exact model number/code for my device as I really did not pay attention before. How can I check the firmware version if the phone does not start?
Please really need your help, as I am new to android and Samsung S3 and I am stuck.
Please any other suggestions?? I have not made any backup (neither with CWM) of the phone, but it does not matter, phone was almost clean.
Thanks in advance!!

Any firmware version will work?
Will the firmware version on that link work on my device?
Are there any other special procedures to flash the firmware of my phone (besides the instructions on that link) that I need to be aware of, or just by using the pda with Odin it will work fine? Since my phone was already rooted and so on....
thanks
Might be a kernel so just flash something new.
Hello everybody
I have been using samsung galaxy note for about a year now and understand the "How-Tos" pretty well
Though now in my case i have got a new galaxy SIII i9300 from o2 with the o2 bootscreen with me and things look different here as i would like to install the ROM- Revolution HD v20.1.
I currently have firmware XXDLIH with modem-DLI1 and i am looking to flash the revolution HD which is v20.1
Questions:
1) I want to use the pre-rooted ROM version of XXELLA from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825272&highlight=rooting to gain root whilst avoiding flash counter/triangles, Is this OK? This will be immediately followed by flashing the Revoultion HD ROM, so i will end up with a XXEMA1.
2) If so i flash the XXELLA version i think i end up getting the new bootloader which makes it harder to reset flash counters?
Can the new bootloader problem be avoided by flashing the XXEMA1 firmware directly??
Does this bootloader problem also persist in the latest JB ROMs like XXEMA1??
If so does the new TA app resets the flash counter to official with no RED exclamation mark?? or
The only solution is to downgrade the bootloader itself??
3)Can i use PC-ODIN to flash the pre-rooted ROM of XXELLA and once i get root with No binary/flash counters{hopefully} can i then proceed with flashing in CWM?? {as i read the new bootloader activates the counter when you enter recovery} or do i proceed flashing ONLY in mobile Odin??
whether it be a new custom kernel/ROM etc
3) In short i want to get to 4.1.2 without the flash/binary or triangle in the end and no specific firmware i.e like XXELLA is required, i can flash any firmware so far it keeps the triangle away.
4) Is there a simpler way i am missing??
The goal is to get Root with a stock based custom firmware like revolution HD or the original stock itself and also to get rid of the o2 bootscreen (ofcourse)
Thank you

i wasnt aware you could root on the i9300 without the flash counter increasing... can you not just use triangle away to reset the counter?

if you follow the link of the pre-rooted ROM's i included in my post, it is mentioned in that post that flashing those ROMs doesnt increase your flash counter.
I have used similar pre-rooted ROM by "bodivas" initially on my galaxy note and never had issue with binary/flash counter and such my preference to use similar ROM on the galaxy S3
Ok so i took a leap of faith and went ahead with flashing the pre-rooted version of XXELLA ROM from the link mentioned in the OP.
And guess what i got root with no binary/flash counters and no triangles too and didnt had to use the Triangle away app at all
So if anybody like me is looking to root without raising the flash/binary counters or yellow trianlge can follow what i did
-Download needed pre-rooted from the list here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825272&highlight=rooting
-flash using PC-ODIN by following the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
The thing i am now inquring is whether i stay the same if i flash a custom ROM through CWM though from what i have reserched, using Mobile-Odin will not raise the binary/flash counter.
Will update.
Update1- it seems though i have obtained root these pre-rooted ROM's do not install custom recovery i.e cwm because when i booted into recovery it read as Android system recovery and NOT cwm etc
I Have the SM G925Z Version of the galaxy s6 Edge [Japan SoftBank]
I See many Roms that say "Works with many g925 Versions !" but the Japanese Z Version is never listed anywhere.
only the F T U V P etc etc versions.
If I use TWRP 2.8.6.0 to backup my current Rom, can I try these other Roms and safely return to my Stock Rom
if cell or wifi service stop working? If I try 5.1.1 Roms, I can not return to 5.0.2 roms?
Can I use TWRP to install a 5.1.1 rom that I download, even while my current Rom is 5.0.2 ?
or can I only install Roms using Odin Flash tool ?
My ZTE Warp phone was able to install Roms from downloaded Zip files with TWRP.
But I am not 100 % sure about the process.

First the s6 edge is a different style of device. To install 5.1.1 roms on the device you have to be on 5.1.1. Same with 5.0.2. Yes you can try any rom from the s6 and the s6 edge rom so long as you flash a special kernal for your device that makes the rom work on your device. If cellular data does not work, revert to your nandroid backup of your origonal os and flash another rom and you'll be good if that one works. Just repeat if the roms dont work or if you get tired of it then just stick with your stock rom which should be your nandroid backup.

Thank you. I can understand this, except for the kernal part, please explain.
How can I backup my current Kernal so that I can return to my Stock Rom backup.?
will a TWRP Nandroid backup do that automatically ?
how do I install the correct Kernal? with TWRP ?
for example, from the ROM installation , it says
[5]Install Zip from storage
[6]Flash The Capsule ROM
[7]Flash arter97 kernel
[8]Flash SuperSU
[9]Reboot
Im assuming 5 means, copy the rom to the phone, 6 means use TWRP to install,
so flash the kernal after the rom ? with Twrp ?
how can I backup my kernal first? so that I can return to my 5.0.2.
and last question, you said I need to be on 5.1.1 to try 5.1.1 roms.
the Japan SM g925Z is a 5.0.2 rom atm, they never updated to 5.1.
most of the roms I see are 5.1.1
Does that mean there is no way to upgrade to 5.1.1 while on 5.0.2 ?
or does that mean, if I flash a new TWRP and 5.1.1 Rom, I can just never return to 5.1.1 ?
Does TWRP Mean Kernel ?
maybe that is what I am missing.
I already have a working TWRP.
some roms do not mention flashing kernels in the installation, some do,
does that mean it does not matter? or does that mean that the installation guide is terrible and people are going to brick ---- if they dont know about it ?
Im not exactly sure the difference between kernel and Rom.
To answer your first question, the nandroid backup you do in twrp backs it up because it is a required portion of your rom. Which also answers your second question as yes.
The answer to your third question is you have to find a flashable zip of a custom kernal for your device. You can also try restoring your boot from the nandroid which contains the kernal and if that one doesnt work flash the custom kernal zip.
Next i need a link to the rom your trying to flash to check it out.
The only way to install 5.1.1 roms is to be on that android version. The reason is that android uses an sdk platform and 5.0.2 uses sdk 21 and 5.1.1 uses sdk 22 so those are incompatable with each other.
No way to update that device to 5.1.1 unless it is released for that device or unless the hardware sources are released for aosp roms which may be a while where samsung has not released them yet due to the new Exynos processor that they recently created.
No twrp is your recovery but it backs up your kernal with the backup.
Those roms are for specific device varients and will work without installing a kernal because the kernal that it needs is for the devices they are meant for.
The others that say install kernals are ones that didnt have the kernal put in the rom zip.

Either that or they didnt modify the kernals in the rom zip to the specifacations that they wanted so they fixed it and posted the kernal.

thank you, that does explain alot.
I am not sure which Rom I should try. None of them actually say sm g95z.
Which roms would you recommend I try first?
I am not sure any will work, they all appear to be 5.1.1 only.
which means my 5.0.2 system can not test any of them.
or more specifically, if I upgrade to 5.1.1, and they fail to connect to wifi or cellular, then I can not return to 5.0.2 I guess.
Do you know of any that are 5.0.2 ?
those should be safe to try I guess.
I just want to get rid of the 500 retarded A-- Samsung apps that auto update.
I dont need Sfinder X_x, I dont need quick connect, I REALLY dont want virus protection from samsung clogging up my performance.
I have read about build.prop tweaks and updates, but the sm g925Z version did not get 5.1.1 updates, so those fixes do not work.
I do have Root access already, but with TWRP 2.8.6.0 (Because its said that it doesnt trip knox).
but I can not un-install these fkn bloatware apps, even with root access.
This appears to be a 5.0.2 Galaxy S6 Edge Rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...edge-g925fxxu1aocv-v1-0-deodex-aroma-t3102974
but it says G925FXX, my phone is G925ZZ
I should be able to test it, and return to my g925ZZ TWRP backup pretty easily right ? since it is 5.0.2 ?
Just to confirm for other people.
I tested the VNRom 5.0.2 for G920F
it ran like S--T.
I used TWRP backup to go back to Stock 5.0.2 just fine.
no problems.

Hello, Have you found any compatible rom?
Hi,
I got my first cellphone with authority rooted in Andriod 5.x hereafter I switched on Andriod 6.0.1 after I got him here was rooted in my x axis wrong if I left then he clicks it up right ( Q is p on my keyboard) I have no backup or something . I've reset it , and I am currently actually a little desperate.
Does anyone have a solution so ?
It is a s6
Thanks in advance!
Joep
You didn't mention how you updated, but it doesn't sound like you did it officially. You should download the original firmware and flash via Odin. It'll wipe the phone so make sure to back up everything you need somewhere safe. If you rooted via a custom kernel that wasn't for your variant of S6, that might have caused this issue.

I have also a SM-J600FN/DS, I am using OFOX, to first install the lineage-17.1-20210213-UNOFFICIAL-j6lte.zip
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][j6lte][10] LineageOS 17.1
Install and running was OK, but like written some pb with phone calls.
Then I tried an other lineage-17.1-20200715-UNOFFICIAL-j6lte.zip
install was OK but at first start never trebuchet ended!!!
So, test the Arrow [ROM][10][J600X][ARM64] Arrow OS
Install and running was OK, but like with lineage-17.1-20200715-UNOFFICIAL-j6lte.zip same pb with phone calls.
I am thinking these 2 ROM with call phone pbs are not for the J600FN/DS but for the J600G
At last test the [ROM][10][ARM] YashxOS for Galaxy J6 2018
Install and running was OK and ALSO the phone calls :+)
Its default is to have gapps built in so I would like to root it to remove unwanted apps!
The .apk KingoRoot and kingroot fail to do so! (failed also with the last stock ROM)
