Hey guys... Do you think I can root my LG g8x (lm-g850um 20f) with kingroot and then install super-sume pro which will then remove kingroot and it's shady files and will automatically replace with superSU. I would like to use TWRP but I understand it is still having problems. My phone is Carrier unlocked but I'm not sure if the bootloader is unlocked.
I have the same question. I have 2 G8x - a G850UM 20k and a G850QM 20b. LG has made promise to upgrade G8x to Android 12. Android 11 is coming in 3Q 2021. So I am not interested in 3party ROM. But I do want to root the phone and edit the "sound" config file so the Quad DAC would kick into high gear even for <50ohm IEMs or headphones. I did that with a LG V20 and a V30. I am certain this can be done with the G8x.
But I need to carefully root the phone, edit the file, and unroot cleanly afterward. kingroot scares me.
If nobody can answer the question, then I'm thinking about taking my phone down to the public library that has pretty laid back administration restrictions on software installs. I'll just try to follow one of the rooting guides from this forum and download all the software and hook my phone up via USB to the library computer since it's a Windows computer and try it there!

Not really much chance to brick. Just make sure you back up everything important to the cloud or PC before you start. I always download the original firmware too, just as a precaution. Kingo might work though I believe that the preferred method to root is via the LG One Click script. See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/d855-one-click-root-twrp-recovery-t3072767
Pls avoid using tools like kingo or Chinese tools when you have tested methods available right here. Even if you were to soft brick, it can be restored via a kdz flash. And try using the search function, there are several step by step guides for that device
My Nexus 6 has presented me with an interesting challenge. During my attempts/process to root my phone, inevitably, one must reboot your phone. And as the reboot takes place the phone always goes into the "Charge" mode and not the "File Transfer" mode that the phone was in as it began the root process. I'm at a cross in the road because I cannot complete the root process. The only option that has presented itself to me is to restart the phone. And while my phone works properly, it halts the root process. I have just purchased another USB cable that charges and transfers data/syncs to cover that question. Any hints would be appreciated. I have had this phone unlocked using Chainfire's Nexus Root Toolkit a while back. It worked flawlessly. I've not really been interested in a custom ROM/Kernel etc. but in continuing to research this area. I'd like to try and unlock then root the phone again. Any hints would be appreciated
If your phone got the January update from Google, they patched a ton of the "exploits" that previously were/can be used to root Android devices. These were pushed out to the Nexus line by Google and made available for OTA by wireless vendors otherwise. This could be the issue you're running into now. If you haven't updated, then I think you just may need to find an alternative rooting method, as the one you tried may not be 100% compatible or is missing some sort of command to direct the device to go into file transfer/download mode.

I really appreciate your perspective. And without a doubt I'll look around and see where this goes. Just reading about all the work that has taken place since I purchased the phone, the landscape is a lot more enticing.
I was able to find a 16GB Internal Storage phone for a very low price today, which was the LG Risio 2. However, I haven't been able to use Kingroot, Framaroot, Kingoroot, or any other root methods for said phone. My reason for wanting root access is to block ads on the YouTube app, which is what I used to be able to do on the BLU R1 HD (before having to sell it for personal reasons).

I'm waiting for the phones to arrive at Bestbuy...
But from what I've been reading, it appears the LG's are tricky to root and could brick even by using the one-click root methods...
I am also interested to know if any methods work on this phone as all the info found by searching seems to indicate that nothing roots this phone yet ?!?
Getting the unlock code & unlocking it was incredibly easy - but it really does need to be rooted.
Thanks.

I didnt even attempt to root these because they are daily drivers for 2 family members.
I did disable a few apps though and installed an App2SD app to move some non-important apps to the 32gb sd card, since the 16gb internal storage gets full quickly.
Mine is not going to be used as the 'daily driver' - I just got it to replace a flaky Blu phone so as to have some GSM coverage on those few times it is needed.
There are root-only apps that I like to use on all my Android devices so I hope there is some method that someone knows that will work on this model.
Thanks.

Just got one today and in the developers section you can enable oem unlocking however I won't be messing around too much as it is my son's main phone atm.
I know this thread is like a year old, but I still have not been able to pin down a working method to gain root access on my unlocked LG Risio 2 M154.
Hoping someone has some good news to share about this ?!?
Thanks.
Hi everyone, my first post on XDA.
My wife and I both own a LG G8X thin q ATT branded phone - LM-G850UM1. Both phones were working on red pocket until my phone updated to Android 11. I don't know how that happened except I turned on developer mode on my phone and selected auto update. I think that may have caused that. I've since turned that off. But now my phone is on Android 11 and won't take or make callse.
My wifes phone, same model but using Android 10 works just fine still.
So far my only hope is to try to flash the phone back to android 10 but there's a catch. The KDZ file i found says it's for canada on the LG fan site.

LG LMG850UM download the firmware for free! Detailed installation instruction. Video review of the model and its features. User feedback and latest news.

My wifes phone shows G850UM20e as the version but on the LG fan site is shows this as canada? ATT is in the USA - leavine me confused.
Could I use the kdz file to flash to my phone? Not sure if it will brick it. Also are there drivers needed to install on the phone? I know there's a usb driver to connect the phone to a pc to flash it, but I thought I read someone saying you have to install the phone drivers to the phone.
Any advice, I'm all ear.

Make a backup copy of the firmware from her phone. If you're still using AT&T as your provider, flashing a different firmware won't fix the VoLTE issues. You need the AT&T firmware on the device for it to work.If you do make a copy of it I could use a copy as well for my G8x.

Hi folks.
Need root on my OPPO A96. Oppo CPH2333.
i can't find anything here and on the web dubious sites only.
Help pls
I also have the a96, its such a nice phone, but those ads are driving me crazy.
Unfortantly since is a new phone and not a popular one, there is not much work done on it.
I'm pretty shore the boot loader is locked down hard too.
I think the only way to root it atm is with Kingroot, you will need to uninstall the phone manger anti-virus software over USB before you run it, since it blocks Kingroot.
For now Ill wait for android12 (if it ever comes) then ill try to root mine.
Ive used Kingroot years ago on my experia SX (Jap-version) phone and had no problems. Kingroot uses bruit force to root you phone connecting to the internet and goes thu different methods.
Is there a way to just inject the hosts file without root?
any updates?
I Found this one here.. but not tasted and idk if it's secure or not.

Seems legit. It's for the China 5G model. Is there any way to root the global 4g model? Got mine in New Zealand from a retailer. Not off AliExpress
