Newbie Alert: What Firmware To Choose - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so Ive got an unlocked Exynos Galaxy Note 9 from Sweden, I live here(sorry if my english isnt 100% correct) with a Tele2 Sim-Card and I want to root it but when I want to choose firmware im greeted with two options. Either I choose Sweden(Tre) a cellular-provider which I dont have, or I choose Nordic Countries. I really dont want to risk bricking this as it is my daily driver.

[Q] Change U20i to U20a

I live in New Zealand and have 2 Mini Pros. Both phones are Firmware U20i phones which work on Vodaphone no problem but only partially on Telecom Xt. Telecom XT phones use firmware U20a. Love the phone but I need the rural coverage Telecom XT provides.
I want to convert both phones from U20i to U20a. Phone 1 is from Singapore now updated to Android 2.1. Phone 2 is from Vodaphone N.Z. and has had no updates, its stock Android 1.6
I know there is some doubt as to whether it can be done as it could be a hardware limited also. When phone 1 was inially updated it had full access to the Telecom XT network. After a day or 2 the software seemed to lock it down to inner city use only. I think this is the 21ghz band Telecom use for inner city fill in. So phone 1 is worth a try.
I intend backing up phone 2 useing xrecovery so I can restore should any thing go wrong. It also gives me a simple method to put phone 1 back to 1.6 if needed.
1st question.
Does xrecovery, backup user data includeing apps, android whatever version installed and the phone firmware in this case U20i?
From here on I must admit Im unsure where Im going but Im confident I can get back to where I started should it all turn to custard lol. I seem to have 2 options to rebrand or is that debrand.
This method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777660.
2nd Question.
It seems almost daily, new tools and methods are created and this method is 3 months old. Is it still the best method to use?
The second option is to use xrecovery and load a Rom from a U20a phone.
3rd question.
Where do I get a Telecom XT Rom file from? Or for that matter any other U20a ROM. So far I have only seen U20i modified Roms available.
Im not sure yet about flashtool but its possibly used in congunction with xrecovery
I guess what Im asking is for some reassurance and advice
There seems to be alot of collective knowledge and experience on this forum I cant hope to emulate. Their also seems to be alot of goodwill to helping newbies which Im trying to tap into.
Any advice you can give me before I start I would be gratefull for.
Its hardware limited, sorry. If it wasn't then I wouldn't be using 2degrees on my U20i right now
The only reason why the U20i was working on XT is 'cause you were on the infill 2100mhz fill in....
ive gained quite a bit of experience in the last few days using a number of tools but still no sucess getting service on Telecom XT.
The phone I have is from Singapore. When i initially updated it I had good signal from Telecom XT. i live 50km from the city and it was impossible to have been the infill 21 gig band.
I have tried numerous edits of build.prop again with no success.
Tried aPaullyG's f/w thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777660 who posted a binary from a brazil source but Flash couldnt use it.
What i would like to do for my own peace of mind is to flash a copy of 2.1 f/w from a U20a phone. Any country, doesnt mater.
havent tried xrestore yet but will later in the day but still need a file of genuine 2.1 to exhaust all possibilities.
I have just been given a Telecom work phone, but I am addicted to the Andriod on my X10, which is my personal vodafone mobile. I would love to use my X10 for work but I also have a U20i so it only works in the City with the Telecom sim. If you manage to get your phone converted to a U20a please post some instructions as I would love to do the same.
Hi Purplerust, I have an Xrecovery backup for my Australian X10 mini pro u20a running 2.1 if this is useful to you. Zipped it's 210Mb. Have not installed a cutom rom yet, just figuring everything out, backing up etc etc... Looking forward to getting Cyanogen on there, but am not yet sure what I need to do to get it working at 850MHz for the Telstra NextG network I'm on.
PM me if you want the image -
cheers,
Richard
The problem is hardware based, if you flash a u20i firmware to a u20a your left without 3g you're stuck on edge and the same goes the other way around.
May I ask why couldn't you use apaullyg's file?
As far as installing a custom ROM on top of it you can always flash to the latest version and root/xrec and install owain94's either floyo (currently using) or gigglebread which both work pretty darn good.

[Q] Different firmware in a branded phone

Hi,
I have a LG P500, from Movistar - Telefonica Spain.
Firmware is v10b which is the last update it can receive through the official LG mobile update tool.
I've seen that there are ways to get other versions and flash them through KDZ updater. For example this last 2.2.2.
For example in another post it appears AVDZBK, which is vodafone.
However these versions belongs to companies different from mine (movistar).
Taking into account that my mobile is not unlocked, could I proceed anyway?
In that case, can I choose any of this FW or there are unlocked ones?
I'm afraid to download a firmware that is also locked but for a foreign company!!!
Thanks a lot...
Don't do it.
It is not adviced to update your phone to a firmware which may not be supported by your service provider... although rooting/custom recovery and using custom ROM fits the same category XD
But nah, there aren't that many new stuff to make you want to upgrade anyway, custom ROMs such as void are a lot better =)
Well the problem is he won't be able to root his phone to install custom recovery.

Install additional language (norwegian) on us unlocked S9

I have bought an S9 + unlocked (G965u1) in the US. When I select norwegian in settings menu , only a few apps and one line in settings show up in Norwegian. Anyone knows how to install Norwegian , I know the software must be available for this device since the S9+ sold in Norway comes with 100 % Norwegian. If I can avoid rooting I would be happy, but if I have to, I would be happy to do it safely. Thanks!

Confusing galaxy s6 model

I have galaxy s6.I am so confused right now because my phone's settings says that the model of my phone is sm-g920f but when i boot into odin mode it says that my phone model is sm-g920p.I made a little research on that so i thought my original model is sm g920p and i am looking forward to update it from marshmallow to nouget. All stock roms in internet says different things like Region and 3 letter product code etc when i try to download it.I dont know if my phone is sprint version or not so is it okey if i install different region rom? with different product code?
I guess my phone is factory unlocked because i can use any type of sim card that used in my country (i live in asia)
Sorry English is my second language so i am struggling to write that (laughter)
Conclusion:My main question is---Can i flash any roms even if its spirint rom with 3 letter product code? or i must flash the exact rom that suits my device if so how can i find if my phone is verizon or spirint etc? By the way on my device there is no service provider name like spirint. The only word i got at the back of my phone is samsung. And the other few words that i have no idea about.
Please help me. :')
