Got my Z Ultra yesterday (£235 C6806) bargain!
I've rooted many a phone in the past and dealt with the dreaded S-OFF that HTC had but for the first time I actually had a brown trousers moment and I'm wondering if anyone could explain a couple of things for me?
I accidentally flashed a 4.4.2 ROM, this booted up but failed to connect to wifi and had a load of wierd issues, I then re-flashed the recovery img file which ended up in the device not booting, all i got was a colourful 'pacman roms' image. With enough manic button pushing I got back into recovery but found the USB mount storage option does not show the device up on my PC, Thank god its got an SD slot as without this I guess it would have been a flash to stock ordeal. I finally managed to install the 4.4.4 GPe Rom after getting into the recovery and now when I power up it has the usual 'google' logo.
So if I want to flash a ROM etc. I have to flash the .img file for a recovery? It's not permanent? Or should I have the recovery on there all the time?
Im assuming I will have fastboot access if required?
Thanks for any help just dont want to get into another panic attack with this thing!
Ed
Its not a HTC device , recovery is not flashed separate like on those devices.
You simply flash a SONY based kernel file with recovery in fastboot if you are right now on a SONY rom. And away you go. You will then be able to reboot in to recovery. After you flash a rom, the kernel and recovery will be changed out to what is included in the .zip file. :good:
Hi all, well I think I have all but wrecked my 16gb shield tv. I unlocked bootloader, installed twrp and rooted, all was working fine. Then I decided to flash the full android rom that is on the forum . before doing so, i used twrp and made a backup. I installed the full android rom, although it seemed to work fine, i was not crazy about it and decided to go back to the original OS, so I booted up in twrp and went to the restore function, there were no backups to restore , I guess when I installed the system img for the full android it erased my backup somehow. anyway, I next went to nvidia website and downloaded the restore image for the 16gb shield tv, i booted in to bootloader and was following the instructions to restore the shield. all seems to go fine until I try to flash the system img, then I get the error "invalid sparse file format at unknown block 0000" it tries to continue but fails, afterwards the system will not boot at all, I can get back to twrp recovery an flash the full android rom just fine, but am not able to flash back the original os without that error. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am stuck at this point as what to attempt next. thanks. Here is a pic of the errors i am getting.
Use a windows pc or the last fastboot version from android sdk or a better otg cable.
Is just a connection problem or the extracted system.img was corrupted when extracted.
If you not solve download again the stock firmware and unzip with a decent tool. Is possoble that when you extracted the archive your stock system.img was corrupted.
I flashed my Shield a million times with no problem. Also the ridiculous stock firmware just to do some logcat.
Shield Console is solid as a rock, you can do anything.
Thanks for the reply zulu, I will re download the img and try again, although I'm concerned something is wrong with the partition, as I was able to flash the full android rom, but now can no longer flash it either. I will let you know the results as soon as I'm able to retry.

Don't worry all is ok. I'm here to help you step by step if necessary.
my friend had a problem like this with another device, another firmware. He used a MAC OS to extract the firmware, and the system.img was not extracted well.
What are you using ? MAC, Windows, Linux ? what is your fastboot version ? do you use an usb otg cable ? what is your precise procedure to go in the bootloader ?
i use an usb otg cable to use fastboot from my PC.
to go in bootloader, I connect the usb otg cable to Shield, that is already connected also to my PC usb port, after i insert the power cable to Shield, and after i press quickly the power button for 5 seconds.
From Windows, if i try to install with the normal micro usb cable (exspecially the one that come with Shield), i have problems similar to your problem.
you can try also to install only the stock system.img to see what happen.
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot -w (this clear user data, but is necessary when you switch from a firmware to another)
fastboot reboot
i installed the stock and the full Android many many times. If the Shield resist to me, can resist to all

Hi Zulu, thanks for the help, I don't have an otg cable, I just use the cable that came with the shield tv. Anyway, you were right, i re downloaded the image and all flashed well, who would have thought. wow, thanks so much for the info, hopefully I won't screw it up again. I like exploring new roms, but panic when I mess things up, I have been trying to re flash this thing for days, with all partitions flashing fine except for the system partition, anyway, downloading the new file must have fixed it , I also went into factory recovery and did a factory reset, maybe that had something to with it also, i really don't know. anyway, thanks again for your assistance.

I had that issue before in a different device. The recovery had botched formatting the system partition. I tried to sideload the whole operating system, but in the end I just had to boot the recovery and format system again. It fixed my problem.

Yea I've experienced that too, I think the last time it happened it was on my Nexus 6. Try and execute this while in fastboot fastboot format system and then reflashing the system image.
This friday I got my tablet(lenovo tab 2 a7-10f). Yesterday I decided to install better rom on it. I rooted my device and installed twrp recovery. Unfortunally I didn't quite realize the importance of making back up and the fact that you can't flash this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/rom-orionlp-v1-8-lenovo-tab-2-a7-10f-t3480918
on android 4.4. My device loops "lenovo powered by android" screen. I can boot it into TWRP recovery. I have been googling today for a whole day and I havent find any rom to flash it. I tried this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...-stock-lollipop-5-0-roms-lenovo-tab2-t3418835
and I think thing like this for a KiKat (through twrp, probably that's why it doesnt work) .I couldn't quite boot it into fastboot and I can't use sp flash propely or it just simply doesn't work for me. Please help me to find any rom to flash it from twrp, since I am too stupid to do anything different way.
In short it loops, I can boot it to twrp, I just want to unbrick it. The ultimate goal is to propely install this *first link*
Thanks in advance!

There is a way to flash a now rom with SP flash tool although you can't use sp flash tool propely.
You must open the lid of the tablet and unplugin the battery
(to unpluin the battery simply pull out this)
Then open your SP flash tool, load the scatter file of the rom, press download button, plugin the battery and your pc will start dowloading the rom normally.
Soooo my phone, broke the USB port out, taking half the board with it, so it couldnt get soldered back since it didnt have the board to support the sides, it would break off again.
It works, but now i wanted to update the firmware and found it i cant since Flashtool is USB only, is there a way to flash the FTF from the phone itself? Its rooted and has all the usual stuff that guides usually make u install (teamwinrecovery) or should i update through the stock method (official download through the phone) but then, how would i root the phone from official firmware? Do i lose it? Can i regain it without USB? Thanks in advance
Ok its been a while so i had no idea, i updated myself and now im in 5.1.1 with root and recovery, i just flashed a zip from one guide. Now im looking at 6.0.1, problem is theres a always a step about using busybox and install.bat from the recovery folder.
Is this to install the TWRP again? Is it only installed through the PC and USB? Or would my old recovery remain from before? Or is there another way to install the TWRP?
Hello! I got a male to male USB cable yesterday, and wanted to brush off the old tablet gaining dust on my shelf. So, I modded it, and I can root it, get Clock Work Mod on it, but can't seem to get a proper TWRP working, or Magisk working.
I cant find my TWRP image file, because there are two versions of the viking pro. There is the RCT6303W87DK, and the RCT6203W46KB. I have the RCT6303W87DK, which also is a x.12.x. Nobody has the image file as hard as I searched, so I tried to make my own TWRP. I grabbed the RCT6203W46KB TWRP file, and my own recovery.img file, and used em to make a TWRP recovery. (The two models have the same chipset, the MT1827.) So when I flashed using SP flash tool and flashify, they both didnt work. (Ill put the file in google drive and link it.)
I have tried the build.prop, nothing.
I made a video on youtube, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeyeyJJFIW0) this shows me trying to use the TWRP.
So, does anyone have an idea on how I could fix it?
