Hello dear Community,
i really hope you can help me along. First of all pardon my english... i have not used it for a decade so it is really "rusty"
I bought a Kindle Fire HDX 7 Inch (the Version with Front Facing Camera) second hand. It came with Cyanogenmod 11 and Safestrap on it installed by the previous owner.
Now i figured out that there are CM 12 and CM 13 Versions availuable for this device (thor should be its pseudonym)...
I don't want to brick my device and i have no idea where to really start....
First of all i always read about unlocked bootloaders... if i am correct my tablet at the moment does not have an unlocked bootloader just a sort of "bypass" so that the older Cyanogenmod 11 works? Is that correct?
If so how can i unlock it properly... i already tried the 1 Click unlock method posted in this forum using VirtualBox etc.... which failed with an error code and did not seem to work out well.
What else do i have to do in order to successfully install Cyanogenmod 13 nightlys? Is Safestrap as sort of a recovery based on an older TWRP Version (2.7x is suppose) a proper recovery for installing a rom? Or do i need to change the recovery? What about the rom slot management options in Safestrap i found!?
I hope somebody might help me out with this (i am not totally new to flashing roms) but i just want to be sure to make it in the right way and order... (cyanogenmod wiki is not speaking a word about unlocking the bootloader in terms of how to do it properly).
Lots of Questionmarks over my head.... *sigh*
I hope someone can help me sort this out.
Best regards

Quick responses (btw - your english is fine!):
- Safestrap is not a generic recovery and can not be used to flash roms other than those designated as "Safestrap Compatible"
- Unlocking the bootloader is the best (really only) path to newer ROMs including CM 12.1 and CM 13; links to relevant threads below
- If you opt to stick with Safestrap v4 do NOT create or use secondary slots; everything happens in the STOCK slot
Everything you need to know about unlocking the bootloader can be found in these two threads. Read the thread OP (important) and then focus on posts made during the past 30 days. Good luck!

... sorry but I'm very confused ...
I'm reading the possible on the network, but the result is I always get confused more despite having a certain familiarity in modding having modded a galaxy nexus, and an LG G2 on which I installed TWRP recovery and various CyanogenMod ROMs.
Unlocking the bootloader in kate/SE, in an official or unofficial way, is still very difficult or almost impossible?
I often read of modified TWRP recovery, which sometimes give problems and sometimes it does not ...is it possible just put the official TWRP for kenzo?
If I can somehow install a TWRP, is possible to easily install the CyanogenMod ROM (after flashing ROM flashing kate modem is needed) and provide CM updates simply by flash new ROM via TWRP recovery?
Thks in adv
Nope! It's easy as 123... Please, check:
http://en.miui.com/thread-345728-1-1.html - for unlocked "emmc_appsboot.mbn".
You can also download ALKA TWRP, rename to "recovery.img", and replace it in fastboot ROM (image folder).
(As well as "emmc_appsboot.mbn emmc_appsboot.mbn", downloaded from the link above.)

Thks for yr reply
I read official unlocking was successful for very very few owners and
such unofficial unlocking gave problems to many others, like bootloop etc...
is that wrong...?

I could not unlock my "kate" officially.
I've tried the method posted above, and works like a charm!
No bootloop, at all...
Thaknk yo so much for yr reply
I remain with the feeling of more complexity and less certainty, than the modding of the galaxy nexus and also the LG G2...
Official unlock works fine.
I have a Kate and unlocked it officially.
Just make sure to flash the global developer ROM, log into your MI account on the phone and press the "bind device to account" button inside the security settings menu before attempting to unlock.
I also got my Kate to unlock officially after using updater on phone to flash global beta rom.then in developer options clicked MI unlock status then linked phone to account. After that unlocked first try after many many failed attempts on global stable.
Nice news and info, thks so much!
But... why so many people can't officially unlock their kate having 50pc error...??
Which version of miui unlock tool and Global Dev. ROM you used when officially unlock yr kate?
I used global beta 6.11.24 and MIflash unlock_1.1.1111.1_en
Thks for reply and info
Hey guys.
I recently bought Redmi Note 3 and I like it quite a lot. I have always preferred stock ROMs but did not dislike MIUI.
The problem is that my phone is still at Android Lollipop. I would like it to be at least at Nougat.
That's when I applied for bootloader unlock code, I got the response the very next day that I was eligible for the unlock.
However, the problem is that for some reason the Mi Unlock tool refuses to recognize me phone. I have tried different different drivers, ports, installed Mi Pc Suite etc. Nothing seems to work.
I got really annoyed by it and started looking for alternative solutions, I realized that there was an unofficial bootloader unlock method, however, that was also fairly risky.
Now what I want to ask is. There are quite a few unofficial bootloader unlock method. Which one should I go with? I'm on MIUI 8.1 Global Stable
Can I install TWRP on an unofficially unlocked device?
Can I flash custom ROMs? And if yes, what ROMs can be flashed without a problem anything on an unofficially unlocked bootloader device?
What are the best ROMs without any major issues? Does Xposed work on 7.1?
I'll greatly appreciate any help.
Hello there,
I also faced this problem after i applied for official bootloader unlock. After searching for a lot of articles i came across this one article where we can install TWRP and Lineage OS without unlocking bootloader.
This article also has a link for a YouTube tutorial. I have tried this on my phone and this method works flawlessly.
Just follow every step from YouTube video or the article itself :-
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/kate-guide-install-lineage-os-locked-t3546154
As for the part of choosing best ROM, i personally prefer Lineage OS because it is much more stable but ofcourse u can try out other ROM like Nitrogen OS, Resurrection Remix or AOSP 8.0
Update latest Official MIUI bate then try unlock

I can just flash the beta OS in fastboot, right?
hello,
since the Honor 9 isnt getting any security fixes anymore what can we do
about the BlueFrag security hole?
https://www.andreafortuna.org/2020/...-critical-bluetooth-vulnerability-in-android/
It seems right now the only chance would be phussons android 10 GSI
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/how-to/android-10-t3993461
since there are no Custom Android 9 or 10 ROMS with latest Google Security Fixes - correct?
If someone figures out how to bypass the bootloader that huawei put, then we can start doing this roms thing, until then, unfortunate people like me are stuck at a locked bootloader.
Well i can technically do the whole process of flashing my board again using dc unlocker and then unlocking my bootloader while I'm at it, but that's too much hassle, man, plus you need some money to spare. It's not worth it anymore unless you absolutely have to, I'm just happy with a working phone lol
thanks for answering - i'm also stuck at EMUI 9.1
and with this method?
wouldnt it be free?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/how-to/downgrade-unbrick-honor-9-imei-fix-t3934363
then we could try some of theses ROMS out

Nope, u have to pay for it, and yeah, i'm waiting for them to find an exploit on the security that huawei put in their gpu turbo update, bec. that's the root of our problem, i heard that if you downgrade to a non-turbo firmware, it's gonna brick your device, so might as well be patient until the guys at dc phoenix figures out how to read bootloader codes on emui9.
Also I saw that openkirin has hw buttons fixed, i think it's the capacitive buttons fix that people often lose bec. of installing twrp, so i'm excited for that day that we can install openkirin roms

to unlock bootloader, try the potatonv method. I commented it here:
Using Honor 9 after EOL / Unlock bootloader / Flash custom rom
Hi everyone, since Huawei apparently dropped support for the Honor 9 a while ago, I'm getting concerned of my phone being a security risk as the Android security patch is of july 2019. As my 3-year-old phone is still working totally fine, I was...

I have an eu phone updated to the latest version and tried many things posted here and in other places, but no result.
That's why I'm here posting as a last resort before I give up.
I've tried to unlock the bootloader through many deep testing apks some couldn't install. Those I managed to install waited days and still says waiting to get approval...
After some searching here I found that those work for India and not the eu phones, but not sure.
Then I found here a guide to change region through engineer mode and then the app would work... After doing everything I was stuck on the decrypt method with error signature. I read the updated post for this method but still the same...
Is there a way to unlock the bootloader with a known current working method or not? Will there ever be?
Any other brands that would you suggest being root friendly in eu on their latest models? Or all current brands are not allowing to unlock the bootloader?
Please don't link any of the posts since I read them unless you think there is something I overlooked
