I went into the google clock app to set an alarm, and the custom sound I've used for years and years had an error saying it could not be accessed. I clicked on the "add new sound" button, navigated to the exact same file which still lived on the system, and it can play it now that pointed to it again. What the heck is that about? Can it only play sounds if I use the "system file chooser" to point at them?
Same here... Kind of irritating.

These are across several roms(senseless, bulletproof, etc) and don't seem rom specific.
First is creating a contact: I create a google contact(on device or online), doesn't seem to matter if it is in a group or not, and they don't show up in contacts. If I type their name to send an SMS it appears, but otherwise isn't searchable.
Second: on reboot the ringtone and notification sound I choose gets reset. Most of the time it doesn't even use the one it shows, it could be an entire song.. I understand it could be because the sdcard is scanning, but it happens on each rom I've tried.
Third: sometimes when I turn the screen on it will show "xxx has been granted superuser privledges".. is this because it was in deep sleep? My old phone doesn't do this, so I'm not sure if it is an error, but it happens with each app I have running continuously that has root, and across different roms.
Please don't just post I could search for the answer, I have, and I haven't found an answer. The contact one is most annoying, the ringtone one can be if i forget to set it after I reboot, and the super user one I'm just curious about..
Thanks in advance.

1. Depending on what ROM or what contacts app you're using, you should be able to choose what kind of contacts are shown in the app. I'm using BulletProof, so in the "People" app, I can choose to see only Google contacts by selecting the menu button soft key on the phone > View > Google contacts checked.
2. I've never had this problem, but in any case, I use an app called Ringtone Maker (link here) to trim and cut songs to use as my ring tone. I also use the app to set the trimmings as my ringtone, and it has never reset on me on any reboot. There are probably other solutions to this, but this is the way I set my ringtones and it's worked so far
3. The superuser privilege means that the application has been granted root access, which means that it can control certain parts of your phone that otherwise wouldn't be allowed if your phone was stock. In short, it means that the application is able to make changes and access system information on your phone because the ROM you installed comes with root. This is normal if you're using apps that require root.

1. Okay, I don't know if I have fully explored the VIEW part of the contacts, I didn't enable everything before because it had it showing as 2700+ contacts(thanks G+), but I just experimented with it a bit and it appears to be working right. Thanks.
2. Most of my ringtones and notifications were properly created or downloaded from the net, the problem is that on reboot it will go to the first on the list, while selecting a random song or ringtone from the internal SD. I am thinking that the ringtone/notification I choose must be on the external, so when it scans when the phone starts up, it chooses something available. I'm gonna see if I can move whatever ringtones/notifications I use to the internal sd fixes the problem.
3. I understand how root works, I was only asking because my old phone would only give that popup the first time it boots- on this phone when I turn the screen on sometimes, it will pop up that it gave superuser permissions as if the app didn't have it. I was more or less just wondering if this was a problem with the way the phone sleeps, or the superuser app, or something, only because I would never see that notification after the first boot with my old phone.
Really, the main annoyance was with adding a contact and not seeing it. Luckily I could select "my contacts"(using your advice) and not see the 2700 it says I have.. so that problem is pretty much solved, which I thank you for
For #2, use a file manager and move your ringtones to /system/media/ringtones (you may have to create the ringtones folder of it's not there). I have had this problem across a few different ROMs and that was the only way to fix it.
For #2:
Did you happened to checked "Backup my Setting" and "Automatic Restore" in Setting/Privacy?
I have the same problem before because Google automatically restored data from other Rom and they are conflicting ...
Try un-check the Automatic Restore and see if it is repeating

This seems to have fixed it Seems like having it in the /media/ringtone folder, when it would rescan on boot, the system would grab some other random sound.. but putting it in the system/media/ringtone and problem is gone. Thanks
I have discovered an issue with the latest Gmail update and am curious if anyone else is too.
I have been having issues with my MoPho going into "Silent Mode" for no valid reason. Everything works fine then all volume voes silent including ringers, notifications, dialer key sounds, etc. The only way to get sounds working was by restart. I have traced it to the Gmail app notifications. When a new email arrives I get the status bar and audible notices, then the sounds go dead. Since un-installing the latest update to Gmail everything seems fine again.
This makes the second google app update I've had to revert from. There has also been reported issues with google search causing com.process.motorola.home to FC when opening from the app drawer.
Anyone else experience this?
FWIW I'm running rooted stock 2.3.4.

I haven't seen that... it seems pretty unlikely that the Gmail app could cause Silent Mode to be enabled, but I guess stranger things have happened.
It's not "turning silent mode on". When I get the notification and read the email sound no longer works after exiting Gmail. Don't understand it, either. The volume is up all the way, but you can't hear anything. I wound up having to revert back with Gmail AND YouTube (I discovered this after testing) and now I don't have anymore no sound issues. I guess I should reinstall them, make it happen (I can reproduce it at will) and get the logcat and see if it gives any useful info.
I have also had to revert back with google search, too. If I install the update and try to use google search from within the app drawer I get a FC in com.process.motorola.home. Removing the update gets rid of the FC.

I have tested these apps many times and never experienced this issue, are you loading any other apps at the same time?
Not doing anything differently than I have in the past. The issue showed up the day they updated and stopped the day I reverted back. Not loading any other apps at the same time or anything unusual.

@FernBch
it happens to me, but nothing linked to Gmail..
this is what i do when i dont hear anything when i get a text message: go into settings > sound > notification tone
I try changing it to another sound. if i hear nothing, i stop all running apps (because usually the stock media player is open for some reason.)
if there's no sound after checking again. i use my file explorer to play a mp3 via stock media player, once it plays fine, the notification sound works...
its a messy thing i have to go through when it happens.. but i dont know why...
okay so, it's clear that im just bad at things.
first, i accidentally re-mapped my homebutton to whatever it is now.
then i removed my root thinking it would fix it.
and then i realized that i had lost my home button and root.
since my home button doesen't work. i can't go into boot mode to use odin3 or other application with a computer.
and now, more recently, i "accidentally" (as a test of boredom) i installed a extracted APK of the "Android System" application, and this caused many issues.
now my "Andriod System" app counts as a downloaded app,
and since i'm not very smart with things like this, i'm not sure if that is the reason why both "App Info" & "Package Installer" always crash when launched now.
i have no idea if either of these two issues are fix-able since they're both internal, and i physically can't root or delete the "Andriod System" app, or else my Android will be good as garbadge.
i really have hit rock bottom
I bought my device a couple of months ago . After a few weeks of usage , the notification started coming saying

My phone is NOT rooted. I even did a factory reset, and installed 2 apps only, instagram and inshot (because i believe they have nothing to do with this notification). But notification kept coming !
Clicking the notification takes me to google play where it asks to disable the app. I click on the disable button , the notification goes away , but after a few minutes, the notification is again on my face
I went to All Apps, and checked if there is any other file manager causing this, but there isn't. The one that google keeps notifying me about is installed on the phone by default and disabled (with package name "com.oinea.myfiles"). There is another default "My Files" app, which can not be disabled but i did force stop it. But the notification is still coming. Its such a headache . Can any body please help me .

I'm using the Mate 10 Pro.
I listen to Spotify in my car. Right now every time I enter my car, I have to start up Spotify on my phone, which is quite annoying. On my previous phone (Mate 7), I could add Spotify to the "Protected Apps" and it wouldn't shut down anymore.
Is there a way to solve it in Mate 10 Pro/Oreo 8.0.0/EMUI 8.0.0?
So far I have:
- Added Spotify to "Ignore Battery Optimization" (Status: "allowed")
- In Launch, I deactivated "Manage automatically" and set all three option active (Auto-launch / Secondary launch / Run in Background)
I don't know what else to do. Any help appreciated!
The stock music player app takes precedence over spotify and others. So if there is any sample music on your phone, it will try to launch that first. Maybe remove any locally stored music and try again.

Thanks, but I already did that. I removed all rights from the "Music" player and deleted all files in the same folder. I created a new folder, named it "My Music", so since then (about 1 month ago) the default Music player has not played anything anmore That's good so far. My issue is really just that it shuts down Spotify.
I noticed that when I'm at work. Maybe another hour later, I still see the Spotify icon on top of the screen, so it wasn't shut down. But sometimes later during the day, it's suddenly gone. So when I'm back in the car, I need to start the app again.
I also tried to hit the "open apps" button (the one next to the home button), then clicked the lock icon. But didn't help either.
I dont use spotify throughout the entire day, but usually as long as I wasn't playing a random video or gif online just before entering my car, spotify will start back up.
I cant say that it runs in the background all the time when not in use. Its like my car triggers it to re-open when it reconnects to bt.
I have a mazda 3 though, all cars seem to act different for BT connectivity.
The thing is, if I leave my car to go shopping or something quick and I get back in my car, it works perfectly fine.
Therefore by my logic, I can rule out the BT of my car. When this happens as explained before, the Icon still remains on top in the notification bar.
So, I guess in the end, for some reason my phone just shuts down Spotify.
Anyway, thanks for your input.
I Have the same problem with VPN App it work fine in background but After a while the App Closed Why?
Having a similar problem with VPN app and also with Youmail visual voicemail. No notification of new voicemails until I open the app. Any ideas? I also set to ignore battery optimization and launch manually.
You need to deactivate the battery settings of the app.

That doesn't help. Apps still shut down in background.
FWIW, I have noticed that battery optimization (Launch in settings) changes can be hit or miss. Some apps perform as set. For instance, I have some items set to manage automatically and they seem to stop when I want them to. However apps like Facebook when Set to manage manually and run in background is off, it does not stop. Other apps set this same way will be stopped. Not really sure how it works actually.
