No, some reason the OnePlus portal is not accepting my IMEI. Keep getting message "Please enter a valid IMEI number." My Sim unlock was completed yesterday maybe i need to wait longer? I confirm that IMEI is correct via ESN checker website. I copy and paste my unlock code from fastboot result from adb command.

If it's bought from T-Mobile or metro you need a token easiest way to tell is go into fastboot mode and type in a command prompt and type fastboot OEM unlock it will either unlock or say you need a token you need to get the adb fastboot files from somewhere

OnePlus isn't giving unlock tokens to MetroPCS user's they will just give you the runaround because they don't know what to do there site hasn't whitelisted MetroPCS IMEI's

I didn't tech support emailed me today telling me to talk to metro I've been talking to metro corparate office they say it's one plus problem

Everything is signed with Oneplus's key, not Metro's -- otherwise we can't do this crossflash then. I don't think metro has control over the actual hardware.
btw, Global and EU also get Android 11 update today.

Yeah I pulled the 11 update on oxygen updater I'll flash the global later they don't I yelled at OnePlus saying they have the token algorithm they don't want to take my token key

Updated to 11 with global firmware on my metro

i got sim unlock from metro and try to submit my code for token to oneplus and get the run around these companies are great at pointing the finger at the other while claiming no responsibility ever

Methods have been tried to get around the token nothing works

Anyone has metropcs version and was able to get unlock token? If you did how did you get it.

As far as I know no it's a systemwide thing it might be because these are the first phones from oneplus metro carries and neither oneplus or metro planned ahead about the unlocking I bet both oneplus and metros tech support are getting hit hard right now asking about this and they don't know **** the tech support most likely reads from a cheat sheet in india and if they actually have to do a real tech problem they lie or pass the buck to get to the next caller

Could you elaborate, which resources did you use and what was the process, also does this now mean you are able to install TWRP, if so, which exact version and then are you able to root through TWRP or ODIN?
Wonder if there's a place one can find out whether this would work on US AT&T locked version, will unlock, speaking of which, why are there videos out there talking about that there's a cost to unlocking carrier, isn't the unlock free and provided on AT&T's website, what's the difference in terms of privacy risks and $?
Thanks

Gotcha.
Did you go through the full process of unlocking your bootloader, or did you just use fastboot to get the device ID credentials and get an email from LG with the .bin file?
You got me curious!!
Does this mean that upon unlocking the bootloader, installing a different ROM, rooting, one unlocks also the carrier, or is separate issue and how come some pay money for it when it seemingly is free on the carrier website? Scam? Or how are these private persons able to unlock the carrier for you? Say AT&T -> Global.
Also, is TWRP always device model specific or is there an option which is compatible for multiple models, likely to work with G8X in this case, I'm assuming a G8X specific TWRP does not exist.

I don't think that matters, all commands are recognized, it's that AT&T has disabled bootloader, unless someone releases and exploit like this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671396
https://www.xda-developers.com/boot...s-been-found-for-the-sprint-oneplus-7-pro-5g/ - more recent
Can't do anything, as far as I understand it. So I guess no root, no twrp/recovery, no privacy. If these exploits are heavily model specific it will probably never happen with the G8X. Mainly I wanted to have root, de-google the etc. the phone with micro-g, and have twrp, hopefully customize roms, but I should have done more research beforehand.
Would be better if https://www.xda-developers.com/leaked-eu-proposal-smartphone-batteries-replaceable/ gets passed and soon So one can buy a phone at least somewhat worth buying, as we don't even own what we buy these days, communist beast system devices and all. What a crock.
But aleast people now will know that the guide is legit (?), thanks to our Bratan here (cpc), provided you don't have a carrier branded phone -> locked the bootloader.

I wonder if I can unlock the carrier from AT&T at least, the unlock portal at at&t says that it's still under contract or something like that, not sure what that means, will the guys contract run out in 12-24 mo and I will be able to unlock it through the AT&T portal or has he somehow bailed on it and it's locked forever.
I've also seen sites selling unlock codes, which this thing does ask for when I put in a different sim card, however I don't know if these sites are legit and if they work for never models like the G8x.
So that's where I'm currently at.

I'm not sure, I'm on Bell in Canada, and since 2017 all devices in Canada are sold as unlocked.
If you have an older device that IS carrier locked, you can get the carrier to unlock it for you at no charge.
I used to use a site to unlock devices, and the price ranged anywhere from $10 to $100 depending on the device, but I can't for the life of me remember what site that was.
That was back around 2012/2013.
Mine is also LM-G850UM, but I haven't tried the process of unlocking the bootloader yet.
I'm concerned that once I submit the device ID, it will void the warranty, and if it doesn't actually unlock the bootloader, then I've wasted the warranty for nothing.

I finally unlocked bootloader :-)

I suggest people who read this post stick to the updated and official app. Unofficial apps may only serve to increase your waiting time.

Is there any way to unlock the bootloader under Linux? I tried to install a Windows VM and set up USB pass through to use the tool but my computer is to poorly spec'd to run a VM. During the unlock process is the connected as a USB device or does it present as a serial port?
You must do it under windows unfortunately.
Send an email to Xiaomi and put some pressure on them to develop a linux tool or simply allow bootloader unlock using fastboot.

Question Can anyone upload the boot.img if they can find it?

I'm trying to flash Magisk, but seeing as there is no TWRP yet, the only method is by patching the boot.img. If anyone could get their hands on that and upload it, I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance!
I have been looking around for it on the oneplus site and can't seem to locate it. <did you get the bootloader unlocked?
Not yet because none have been unlocked yet. Hopefully by about 60 days in they will be willing to unlock it.
If I actually had the skills to do it <i would just pay the little bit of change for the phone just to have it unlocked. Sigh I thought oneplus had a decent sized community for messing with these thngs.

Usually, yes but sadly T-Mobile is only (as far as I'm aware) giving these phones out on contract so unlocking is not possible yet.
It's possible to buy one of these on the oneplus store, too, now. I've ordered one, and I'm hoping that since it's not affiliated with any particular carrier, it'll be factory-unlocked?
We'll see, but if all goes well I may be able to upload a boot image wednesday or thursday.
Edit: though, I'm skeptical. Even if you have a boot.img, if you don't have an unlocked bootloader, can you really install Magisk?
And if you have an unlocked bootloader, you should be able to extract the boot.img file yourself using `fastboot`. Or at least, such extraction is possible.

Sorry I cannot help with that, update full zip hasn't been posted by OnePlus on its support website, so stock boot.img cannot be retrieved from payload.bin
I've gotten my device, and it is fully unlockable - I've now unlocked fastboot.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get fetching partitions via fastboot to work - I think the OnePlus Nord N200 5G might not support it.
I'm thinking the easiest way forward would be to get a TWRP build working, and use that to retrieve the boot image? Or just wait until oneplus posts a full update zip, if they do that.

Ah I see, you bought it from the OnePlus Store. That's awesome to hear! Sad about the partitions though. I'm wondering if the N100 TWRP build would be similar enough to use as a base for the N200, I'm no expert on any of it but it seems quite reasonable.
Perhaps somebody can do full system dump and find boot

I paid in full already
I just need to stop being lazy and go pay for it. Maybe when someone gets something going. Lazy is winning out at this point lol.
You don't need to pay it off to get your device unlocked. mobbdeep unlocked my phone even though it wasn't paid off yet and the OEM unlock option isn't greyed out anymore.
However, there's something that's been bothering me: With T-Mobile branded OP devices, you have to fill out an unlock request form on their website to unlock the bootloader. However, I checked their form and there's no option to request an unlock token for the N200 5G, so I'm not even sure if the bootloader can be unlocked on the Nord N200 just yet. Granted, I haven't tried to unlock the bootloader on my device yet. Can someone else try and unlock the bootloader on their N200?

Confusing thread, but please read the existing threads on this topic as there are a few.
You need to SIM unlock the phone before you can unlock its bootloader.
If you have the T-Mobile variant, check this thread to see if they can SIM unlock your phone:

No need to reboot, once you finish that, going into Developer options should allow you to set OEM Unlocking to whatever you want. Easy peasy.
If it is from T-Mobile, you'll need to go into bootloader to get the serial, unlock code, and IMEI to submit a ticket to Oneplus for an Unlock Token and then wait a week to get it.
You can skip all of that if it's direct from OnePlus - just toggle OEM unlocking in developer options then go into bootloader mode and 'fastboot oem unlock'.

Question MetroTmo variant

So, am I correct in assuming I’m unable to do anything with this device until I can sim unlock? Seems that’s a requirement for boot loader unlock. I got one of these for cheap cheap because I need an android device with out gapps but I’m thinking that’s not going to work until it’s sim unlocked. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

A couple pages back there is a thread on how to oem unlock without sim unlock. It involves running a debloat script or using adb to get rid of one service. It goes through every step you need to do to unlock.

Thanks! Found it and so far it’s worked. Waiting for response from OnePlus.

No problem, it takes almost exactly a week to the hour to get the code. Rest of the guide should be fairly easy to follow too. Just remember if you ever you the MSMTool to get back to stock it relocks your bootloader. You'll need to unlock it again by using the file OP sends you before flashing other nonstock firmwares again

Once you get the code, you can simply use my dummies guide to full rom backup, convert to US OEM (DE2117), and root and has the "oem unlock bypass" command in the guide.
