Guide: Installing TWRP and Custom Roms on RealmeUI 2.0 - Realme 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

The bootloader cannot be unlocked in RealmeUI 2.0 on Realme 7 (RMX2151 INDIA) as of now (09-August-2021). The only way to install any ROM/Recovery is to downgrade to the previous version and unlocking the bootloader. The procedure is as follows: (Tested on Realme RMX2151)
Download Android 10 (RealmeUI 1.0 based firmware from here: https://c.realme.com/in/post-details/1415972132185292800)
To be on the Safer Side go to developer options (Tap on build number 5-10 times) and enable USB Debugging.
Shutdown the phone and enter into recovery by holding the power and volume down key for 5-10 seconds) DATA WILL BE WIPED AFTER THIS
Tap on English > Install from Storage > From Phone Storage and select the package.
In around 2-3 minutes Android 10 based stock ROM will be flashed.
Again go to developer options and enable both USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking.
Download in-depth apk and install it on the phone. XDA Forum
Open InDepth APK, Start Applying. Wait for the "review successful".
use the guide in step 7 to boot into fastboot and unlock the bootloader.
Steps to unlock bootloader: Open CMD in the pc to run ADB and fastboot. Type: 1. adb reboot bootloader 2. fastboot devices 3. fastboot flashing unlock 4. fastboot reboot
In case the phone is stuck after fastboot flashing unlock, just restart the recovery by pressing power and volume down together and restart the phone.
Check bootloader status in the developer options.
Reference Video:
Forum: XDA
You can install any recovery. Just follow the same procedure and change the recovery file.
Press Power and Volume down button together as soon as you type fastboot reboot to open the recovery.
Recovery will get reset if you restart the phone. In this case, use Step 13 to reinstall the recovery.
Once in recovery, you can connect to the PC to copy any ROM and install it. It is recommended to use an SD Card.
I am creating this post because none of the available posts in XDA is telling about bootloader unlock in RealmeUI 2.0. I have unlocked the bootloader and flashed a customer ROM on my Realme 7 using this same procedure.
Let me know in case of any doubts.

what recovery you're using? some of them doesn't work on rui 2.0, some others aren't stable enough (unofficial build). also, did you update to rui2.0 again after all of this step?? i managed to get bootloader unlocked on rui2.0 by using mtkclient, downgrade is unnecessary. by using mtkclient you wouldn't get fastboot mode since in depth testing apk also verify to unlock fastboot mode. simply read mtkclient readme file if you wish to unlock.. or I'll make one here

Can't root redmi note 3 Snapdragon

I have the Redmi note 3 pro 2gb snapdragon version I have unlocked my bootloader officially. I cannot seem to be able to root/flash recovery onto my phone.
I tried the Miui India toolkit - I get an error message: error unhandled exception has occurred in your application blah blah blah Could not find file c:\1.txt
I tried following this guide, and it worked once but it also broke Wifi - wifi refused to turn on
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/root-redmi-note-3-snapdragon/
I'm on Global Stable 7.1.8.0. I've tried the China rom and Global 7.2.3.0 but both roms are much worse on my phone - I no longer get notifications from my messaging apps, Blackplayer keeps stopping and restarting from the very first song it started playing, and other random bugs
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you

You unlocked your bootloader on stable ROM? Are you sure? According to this post it doesn't work on stable and it didn't work for me (same model).
Check it in fastboot (power off device and boot by holding Power + Vol Down):
1. Connect your RN3 SD to PC
2. Open cmd.exe and change to your ADB/fastboot folder with "cd <X:\myADBandFASTBOOTfolder\>" (replace with whereever fastboot.exe is located)
3. Check the connection with "fastboot devices". It should show something, meaning that your PC recognizes your device being connected through fastboot.
4. Enter "fastboot oem device-info". The line where it says "Device unlocked:" should be "true". If not, your bootloader is still locked.
Anyway, I suggest going to an official Developer Version (if you are on Global Stable, install Global Dev; China Stable -> China Dev). IMPORTANT: Search through forums, if an OTA update is safe to do, when your bootloader is unlocked. It might (!) lock it again, meaning you have to wait again, since Xiaomi only allows one unlock a month per device.
When you are on Dev ROM with bootloader unlocked, follow this guide to flash TWRP and patch the boot.img (important, so it doesn't replace TWRP with stock recovery again after the next boot). Go into recovery (Power + Vol Up) immediately after flashing TWRP, without rebooting to system. If TWRP is in Chinese, check out my comment here on how to fix it.
After successful installation of TWRP make sure that it's permanent (reboot the device at least twice and enter TWRP again). If that is the case you can search for the latest SuperSU.zip and flash it through TWRP which should give you root.
Hope this helps.

Hello
Sorry to rephrase: I flashed to China Dev rom via MiFlash and unlocked the bootloader offically, however this rom had odd errors and bugs so I went back to the older Global Stable. My understanding is that the bootloader is now unlocked regardless of what ROM i am running?
In the guide you linked, the OP mentione "no patched boot.img required" yet you recommend I patch the boot.img? Can you advise how I should do this?

I think going from China Dev to Global Stable is giving you troubles. Since you already flashed another Official ROM after unlocking the bootloader I don't think it would make matters worse if you did it again now. Try flashing the official Global Dev Qualcom http://en.miui.com/download-301.html and check again if your bootloader is unlocked through the method I posted. After that - if it's still unlocked - you should be able to follow through with the guide.
Right, the boot.img is patched automatically through TWRP when you enter and exit it. Just flash the recovery and confirm overwriting files, so it doesn't go back to stock, when you exit TWRP. You should get a notification when you try to rebbot to system through TWRP.
Just as an update - I was able to flash Cofface's recovery on Global Stable 7.1.8.0 (since my phone refused to update me to any other rom) using the provided guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/recovery-kenzotwrp-cafface-3-0-0-t3369341

Now if you want to install any other ROM like cm13
Procedure for ROM installation
wipe your system from the wipe tab:
Now download the latest CM13 SNAPSHOT BUILD ROM FOR YOUR REDMI:
https://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/kenzo-snapshot.zip
and GAPPS:
http://opengapps.org/?api=6.0&variant=mini
do select the arm 64 version and mini one.
download from your pc and copy it to micro sd card. enter this card into you phone and go to mount in twrp.
mount the micro sd card storage.
select the zip file on the micro sd card from the install tab on twrp and flash it.
now go back and flash open gapps zip file.
now REBOOT to system. everything will work fine

Official method is worst. Its not like Motorola who gives unlock code within a min.
Try unofficial above method
Do we still need to flash modified Boot.img for first time flashing TWRP ?

Yes you need to flash a ROM. Whether it is official miui 8 or beta miui 8 or any custom ROM. Cm13 and RR v5.8.0 7.1-N is better.
Now if you need your ROM back with twrp and root access. Just install miui 8 official ROM through twrp and don't try to change the recovery its the safe twrp I provided with. And its important for unofficially unlocked bootloaders like you.
Since it is official miui 8 so it will block your bootloader but to prevent this just install universal boot image patcher after installing this ROM.
You can find it on net and after that reboot and install. Now to get root access download and install SuperSU zip from net via twrp and reboot.

I think you have to flash global kenzo 7.0 ROM through mi flash program on PC and then proceed to edl and flashing twrp.
I will be posting the instructions. Today only.
But I have unlocked it without this method
+1 , I get waiting for device also - because cannot see adb devices Drivers are installed

Upgrade to Nougat. Unlock Bootloader -> TWRP -> Root -> Safetynet Pass

Updated for more serious reference. Hope this info helps you!
Procedure:
Once you have updated to Nougat, you would have to unlock your bootloader
The APK that unlock the bootloader works (Even though is marked as M version). (Remember that this will wipe your device!) For ULBL -> Version UnlockTool_2017_0803(android M) (FROM ASUS) https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-3-Zoom-ZE553KL/HelpDesk_Download/
Zenfone will reboot and you will able to see a new splash screen that informs you that your device is unlocked giving you boot options Don't press anything. (You will see this everytime you reboot). The next screen will show an erase process. Phone will reboot.
Once booted enable developer options and adb via usb.
You can find TWRP builds right here: https://mega.nz/#F!p90wgAaY!l1JbJilmAUEKTKWu43pT9w (Special thanks to: @shakalaca) Use the latest one.
Go to fastboot mode and install TWRP. (fastboot flash recovery (nameoffile).img)
Let fastboot do it's magic, once you finish press volume buttons till you find reboot recovery press power button to select. It will boot again to the first splash. Do not press anything, let it work. It will boot TWRP in a whistle.
Once in TWRP make a backup. You know it's necessary, and will save your ass in case of a softbrick.
Flash latest magisk (Current Ver: 13.3) Magisk thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Reboot, check drawer for magisk manager, magisk and root should be enabled.
Voila. Safetynet test passed :good:
what version was twrp are you using and what steps did you take to get magisk to work.
smariob said:
So today finally I got my Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom. I couldn't contain myself to start playing with it.
My very first surprise was that the phone requested for an update. I've done it. I ended with a stock 7.1.1 AZ3Z.
This is my experience:
The APK that let you unlock bootloader works. (Remember that this will wipe your device)
After auto reboot I cheched safetynet. At this point test failed (Little bit obvious)
I was able to go to fastboot mode and install TWRP (The same you can find right here at the forum)
Let fastboot do it's magic, press volume buttons till you find reboot recovery. It will boot TWRP in a whistle.
Once in TWRP I made a backup. You know if necessary.
The next step was a crossfinger procedure. Just flashed latest magisk Beta (13)
Reboted checked for magisk manager on drawer.
It was there and root also. Enabled magiskhide, and voila. Safetynet test passed :good:
Hope this Info help you.

Just a question as I'm having difficulty booting into TWRP.
My device is unlocked and when flashing TWRP using the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and trying to boot into it nothing happens other than my device going into the bootloader. I have tried flashing both the most recent TWRP 3.1.1 and 3.1.0 yet I keep on coming to the same problem. Can anyone provide help? thanks in advance.

Everytime you reboot the pone starts into boot loader. It has a countdown to boot into whatever is commanded.
Once you flashed succesfully the recovery img you just have to select option to boot recovery with vol keys and power.
Phone will reboot into bootloader agin let it boot on contdown (don't press any key)
Then it will boot into twrp.
Hello, on nougat i am trying to install the twrp, I downloaded the official bootloader release program (after installing the message "unlocked device") but trying to install the twrp via fastboot me by an error message. ... but I think the problem is the unlocking of the bootloader (if I turn the ze553kl in fastboot mode I see my device is "locked") ... there is another version of the bootloader release software? The one available on asus site would look for android M ... maybe there is one for Nougat? Thanxs
Wop. I used the M version apk on Nougat. It worked with no issues, the unlock of boot loader is successful when all the content of your smartphone is wiped.
For reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg77b8o8Jk4 Min 1:29
Thank you! But running the software, does not run any wipe, it only displays an "unlocked" message without having to restart anything else. I also tried to make a "factory reset" and repeat lab process but the result does not change ...

[TUTORIAL] Rooting and unbricking with latest firmware as of 2019

If you are using android 7.11, this guide works fine: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3-zoom/how-to/how-to-root-zenfone-3-zoom-ze553kl-t3622256
If on android 8, SuperSU will brick your phone. Use Magisk instead:
- enable usb debug mode on your phone
- unlock bootloader
- plug phone into your computer
on your pc
- Download fastboot and adb:
* Windows: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip
* macos: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-darwin.zip
* linux: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-linux.zip
- download the latest Magisk unlock script from https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases and copy it to a MicroSD or USB that you can attach to your phone. Look for Magisk, not Magisk Manager
- download twrp v 3.1.0-0-Z01H-20170408: https://mega.nz/#F!p90wgAaY!l1JbJilmAUEKTKWu43pT9w?E81jQTCD (this is from https://mega.nz/#F!p90wgAaY!l1JbJilmAUEKTKWu43pT9w, as described in the old root guide using twrp + supersu. It is supposed to be safe)
- `adb reboot bootloader`
- `fastboot flash recovery <path to twrp image downloaded>`
- `fastboot reboot`
Right now, you should probably backup your phone.
back on your phone:
- before booting, press volume up on the bootloader, there, select Recovery. Using fastboot to reboot into recovery might cause the stock recovery image to reflash
- if prompted to enable system modifications, allow it.
- If prompted to decrypt your data in TWRP, use the PIN you setup. If it doesn't work, I can't guarantee you won't brick our phone. Feeling brave enough? In case of brick keep reading, it is easy to restore your phone to stock Android 8 using official firmware.
- press install, choose the device attached to your phone that has Magisk-xxx.zip and select it
- flash the image and it should be OK
In case of brick or unsuccessful flash from SuperSU and without backup:
- Don't panic, like I did today
- download the latest firmware from Asus: https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-3-Zoom-ZE553KL/HelpDesk_BIOS/
- follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3-zoom/how-to/manually-update-to-7-11-t3815703
- when the phone reboots, boot into recovery
- enable ADB sideload
- on your pc: `adb sideload <path to newest firmare>`
- now follow the root guide above before starting your phone
- ???
- profit
Note: commands using adb and fastboot assume you have put the contents from the downloaded platform tools in your PATH, else execute them from the directory in which they were extracted, for instance, on linux:
- `cd /home/$USER/Downloads`
- `unzip platform-tools-latest-linux.zip`
- `cd platform-tools`
- `./adb devices`
Bricked my phone.

After the magisk install. It logged some "can't mount partition" errors, I tried to wipe, but do not worked.
It got stucked on Asus logo.
I did the unbrick tutorial.
This is strange. Magisk is supposed to patch the boot image and install its app (by the way, if you update magisk using the app, phone enters bootloop)
Anyway, I have encountered myself many problems when installing, but nothing like this. Bootloops and corruption message on bootloader yes, but I can't seem to recall anything about partitions not being mounted. If installing stock recovery image, boot image and system doesn't do the trick, in my experience it is either bad partitioning, although unlikely, because those procedures doesn't repartition anything, or bad internal storage.
But just to be sure, you should reflash stock 7.1 image (recovery, boot and system) with fastboot, enter stock recovery and wipe cache/factory reset. If your phone is physically healthy, this should work

I can't really help you there. This guide is supposed to work for those who are able to unlock bootloader using official asus tools. Never heard of unofficial unlock methods. It is possible that you have a hardware problem if you use those tools and they just don't work.

Have you used the latest official unlocking tool? I see there's a July 2019 version available.
If you are on an older version of Android (not Oreo) are you presently still getting OTA update prompts?
I tried this tool but no result.
is it possible to root ZE553KL without loosing user application's data? I have unrooted device, wanted to migrate telegram secret chats to new phone. it is doable but with rooted smartphone only. if rooting process is destructive I cannot migrate. if rooting is doable with preserving installed applications along with their data then there is a hope for successful migration.
does this method look promising or it is just fake method?

Sounds good and regards to the developer, But I recommend that to wait until the TWRP be tested well and release the first update vesion .
for me I will keep waiting for the official TWRP, no need to rush there is no any custom rom
Well it works for me. I use the redmi 9 nfc 3/32 lancelot.

I guess you can test it yourself. Quite easy to fix things if it doesn't boot the TWRP. You'll simply flash the original recovery.img from the current MIUI full ROM installed on your phone to erase the TWRP without even erasing userdata. My bootloader is currently locked so can't test it now. About bricks, as you know this is an MTK so you have to be extremely careful.
The advantage with TWRP is you can mod the system so long as you enable write access to that partition. Flashing Magisk modules also works better via the recovery.
Last thing, I think the only way you can get root on MIUI is through the patched boot method. Flashing the Magisk installer zip in TWRP just doesn't do.

It means the flashing program in the zip. You can just flash the img file via fastboot command. I tried, it works.
Copy the .img file to your fastboot folder & flash .
Almost brick my device.....
Today I installed this in my redmi 9....
I was surprised when I see that my device is is boot into this recovery....
I am very happy but my happiness gone after a few minutes.....
When I boot into system I cannot boot into recovery.....
So I format all user data and chach....
But same thing happen To me....
I flash this recovery again with fastboot mode.. then I can boot into recovery...
I think it could be happen because my phone is encrypted... So I force dencrypted my device....
When I want to boot into system. I fail to boot no system and no recovery...
I think it is over but luckily I able to boot into fastboot mood ..then I flash boot and recovery....
I realise that there is no need to flash this recovery... Because you can root your phone without recovery....
If you try to flash GSI ROM... It will not happen because it does not support GSI ROM
There is no option to erase system and vendor separately.....
So who want to flash GSI via this recovery, I suggest you do not flash it because we do not need it this time....
I am not sure it may be happen only with me. Feel free to share your experience...

This recovry is only to flash magisk for now. Flashing ROMs not supported yet. Don't try to flash rom with this.
That's mean this recovery is not helpful.....
Because we root our devices without any recovery....

In order to get that lucky we will need source code. Without source code nothing can be done properly.
