so that is kernel and or app issue, your kernel(drivers) could be an overclocked version, causing phone to run hot and affecting the display from running hot for long and damaging the pixels/ liquid used for display
or background apps making your phone run hot and causing same issue
Since you are on xda, i could make assumption that youre using custom rom and or magisk,
if by any chance you are using pixelify or pixelarity from magisk and your phone is medium - medium high end(the phone is running stock and custom framework at the same time causing your phone to run hot (battery drain, cpu and gpu strain)
Your screen seems permanently or long term damaged especially if its a lcd display
if you have somewhat overclocked your device(or its screen) or ran it at high performance for a long time those are possible causes
I need to know ,are you using custom os, magisk , magisk boost modules, custom kernel and how long has the device been used from the first user? Then I can help you further

Hi all,
I seem to have a problem with certain roms on my S3 that will heat my phone up excessively after just a few minutes use, while other roms don't.
I used to use Omega Rom V43.3 and JKay and that never once heated up to the extent that I would almost burn myself. I decided to try Revolution HD, Glamour S5 and Blisspop and my phone would heat up with all of them.
I am looking for a new rom as Omega Rom is really outdated and I am missing out on newer updates.
What would cause this? Is this Kernel related? If so what Rom or Kernel would reduce this?
I use the screen on the lowest brightness setting and don't use too many apps at once, Spotify, Facebook, Whatsapp etc.
Does anyone have an idea? I would have asked in a dev thread for one of the roms but I don't have the required 10 posts.
Thanks!

Underclocking is hardly the solution. I'd check for CPU-intensive apps. One of them must be running in the background. Check the battery stats for clues too.
Its ROM code issues
The rom is probably taxing the hardware more
Is 60 degrees celsius a normal temperature for a phone cpu to reach? This seems really high to me as I am almost burning my hands. It's really uncomfortable. Battery reaches about 43 degrees celsius.
Using Boefla Kernel and Android Revolution HD rom. Tried Blisspop with Archi Kernel and it would get just as hot. Omega rom the same thing.
Screen is on it's lowest setting and I tried undervolting as well, no luck. These are all fresh wipe installs
Is it just one of those things that some S3's will heat up more than others or is this temperature a bit too high?
Thanks
So long as the device doesn't shut down it wont do any damage. The main problem is comfort. Have you activated power save mode?
Hello:
I am new to XDA. Please advise if I have posted poorly.
I am a software engineer and now Android hacker. I am attempting to use Pixel 2 phones as streaming cameras. Everything works awesome until I turn on compression and then I get throttled down due to breaking 40c on the skin temperature. This is insane and I need to hack the phones to get that bumped up.
I found a thread on how to do this for Nexus 5x. I was disappointed when the same instructions don't apply for Pixel 2 as I see no thermal-engine.conf. And when searching extensively, I have found no guidance on hacking Pixel 2 thermal throttling. I did move my thermal-engine.conf from my 5x to one of the pixel 2s. But that was a hope and a prayer and it did nothing. Which is better than bricking....but..I really need to work around this limitation
Any help would be much appreciated. I have 3 rooted Pixel 2s and before I start cutting them apart and bonding copper to the heat shields, I am looking for a software hack approach.
Thanks
Mark
SOLVED
I want to just close the loop and thank folks for providing resources that ultimately helped me to solve the thermal-engine problem on Pixel 2.
1) obviously this post had me looking in the right direction.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/how-to-disable-thermal-throttling-t3636574
in fact this was almost verbatim for Nexus 5x
I misread the location at first and could not find thermal-engine.conf for Pixel 2. It is in /vendor/etc/thermal-engine.conf BTW
2) I used this resource to experiment and discover that in fact I could manipulate thermal engine to get what I wanted.
https://developer.qualcomm.com/qfile/28825/lm80-p0436-8_thermal_debugging_guide.pdf
Basically I shelled into the device, stopped the thermal engine, deleted the thermal-engine.conf file, restarted the thermal-engine in debug and then discovered that it was in fact looking in /vendor/etc/thermal-engine.conf.
At this point I ran my app and saw that I was now no longer being affected by the thermal-engine throttling...so progress..
Of course, on reboot however, the file was replaced... I guess from ROM mounting at boot up.... and then the light bulb went on..
3) I went back to the Magisk module provided above and tweaked it for my specific requirements and it all works beautifully.
NOTES:
The reason I am posting this response is because it is now seemingly a solution for all device types running Snapdragon, not just Pixel.
Also, the Pixel 2 had SKIN throttle settings at 40c with a clear of 36c. So this is absolutely brutal for someone trying to build/run apps using G/CPU, A/V, WiFI etc..
What happens is as soon as the device gets over 40c the throttling kicks in and does not clear until the device cools to 36c... of course that will never happen as long as the resource-heavy app is running. It turns out that my app runs steady for hours and hours at around 42-44c. So we are talking less than 10% outside Google's thresholds ... insane and a shame
Google P3 xl
Can somebody provide support for this process to novice like me?

No, don't even bother on custom ROM as its will give you more problems dan solutions. i'm using stable 10.3.4.0 too (4k 60fps with built-in camera app ftw) with extreme kernel and it works seamlessly. if you're not a hardcore gamer and concerning more to longevity of the phone try franco kernel instead (bc extreme kernel will overclock everything). FK will underclock your CPU and optimize some other settings to make your phone running 'enough' power with minimal battery drain.

Do you have any problems with touch with this kernel?
Same problem here
No matter what rom or beta build or stable build i use .ghost toch still not fix.
I think d best ways to fix the problem is replace touch panel.

Using multitouch test app, if i try to touching the same spot repeatedly it's only detects like only 7/10 touches. But when playing games or typing there's no missing touch though. For ghost touch, i don't encounter any.

This is the kinda person who start talking rubbish, mocking other's opinion, start a fight in a peacefully thread and thinking they are know abt everything. Custom ROM is just a skin that do a little to none modification to system, and kernel will have more control than custom ROM bcs kernel IS the main driver for the hardware. So if you're pointing out that he just need to test it via software perspective, then flash a custom kernel and he will know if the issue is on the hardware level or just need an updated/modded driver/software. Stop treating others like that, start a debate with manners, smart guy.
Should i sell this phone and buy Samsung? I bought this phone for gaming. I can't play any game because touch issue.
I sell this phone today because bad display. I will use Android emulator for PC.
I had Ghost Touch problem on my Xiaomi mi9 in Call of Duty Mobile and PubG.
This is the only solution which fixed my problem:
xiaomi.eu/community/threads/xiaomi-mi-9-ghost-touch-issue.51043/#post-503263
1. Open settings
2. Activate developer options (My device > Tap 8 times on "MIUI-Version")
3. Settings > Additional Settings
4. Developer options
5. Disable MIUI-Optimizations (at the very bottom).
6. Reboot
Hey. I have searched extensively for the solution. Can't find it anywhere. So basically I just bought this phone.
Now whenever I am playing CODM or Pubg. The touch delay is huge, I mean if I swipe anywhere it takes half a second to swipe and in a floaty and Sluggish fashion.
This makes aiming almost impossible ?*
Anyone got any solution? I have tried to downgrade OOS to 10.0.3 from 10.0.8 using EDL method. No luck.
I know this is a software issue. So does anyone have any solution?

The game works butter smooth. It's the touch response I have a problem with.
Meaning touch latency is delayed if that makes sense.
I personally don't have any issues but I've read somewhere that setting the graphics to High helps
Have you found a solution ? Im getting the same problem on my one plus 8 pro brand new... playing codm is unplayable, movement is slow and heavy .. touch delay is crazyy .. help :|

I believe OP has low touch refresh rate to 90ghz..where apple 11 and gaming phones has greater than 120ghz which is really important same to samsung highend..OP concentrated on screen refreshment only that is not much useful but also should look into touch refresh rate for gaming and quick touch responses. I fed with OP now
The touch refresh rate of the OnePlus 7T Pro is 1.5x the screen refresh rate meaning it is 135 Hz. That shouldn't be an issue. There are several factors that can play a role in this but I suspect that it comes down to the kernel and poorly implemented drivers. You can try a custom kernel and see if that improves anything. Most custom kernels at least include some kind of upstream and optimisations that can make a huge impact (like Smurf Kernel for me on the OP6 made a huge improvement).
Mine is oneplus8pro not 7

The same applies to the OnePlus 8 pro, though the touch sampling rate is 240 Hz so 2x times the screen refresh rate. I would still try to use a custom kernel to check whether or not it improves the latency issues. Smurf kernel is available for the OP8P which I can recommend. But there are other custom kernels available for each and everyone's liking
As this thread is posted in the OP7TP section I assumed the question was regarding this device. I didn't get that you are talking about the OP8P
This issue common on devices with higher refresh rate, this delay is causing because you could set your screen refresh rate lower than maximum refresh rate (like using 60 fps).
To fix this issue you just need to increase your screen refresh rate to maximum then only your device will use the maximum "touch sample rate".
1. Does it have Google services on the Chinese version so we can use the Play Store?
2. What issues does the CN rom have when you're using it outside of China? Does it support 5G in your place?
3. How has the battery been with light usage (social media, YT, music, reading) and heavy usage (gaming for hours, high brightness most of the time)?
4. If you were to flash the Global rom version in the CN version, can you receive OTA's?
5. How great is the display? Do you feel the 1440p LTPO 2.0 difference? Is it readable under direct sunlight?
6. How good does the cameras, both rear and front, take photos?
7. Is the Steel Black version more durable than the Paper White?
8. Has anyone tried underclocking the CPU in exchange for more battery?
Thank you for those who will reply. I hope the future buyers or owners of this device will use this a guide when it does have answers.

2. Haven't experienced anything so far. Don't have 5G
3. Light usage has been at least 6hrs SOT but Accubattery says 10hrs SOT estimated. I'm running 120Hz and have underclocked my CPU and GPU with FKM. I don't game so I can't give any info about that.

5. It's works fine under sunlight. 120Hz is a must for me now that I've experienced it. LTPO2 preferred since it can drop the refresh rate to save battery
6. I don't take photos often but with GCam it works good enough for me
7. Most people use a case so I doubt this matters
