Question Noise Cancelling wired headphones - issues - Sony Xperia 1 III

Hi everybody,
I just got my Xperia 1 III and I tried to use my old Sony Noise Cancelling headphones MDR-NC31E, and I'm getting error that these headphones are not compatible with my device.
After closing this error message, music continues to play on speakers.
Any other random generic wired headphones are working normally.
Is there anything I can do to trick my phone to use these headphones?

Yeah they won't work buddy due to the extra ring around the 3.5 auxiliary on the earphones, I have the other ones can't remember the name but they haven't worked on any Xperia since the X series it's a shame I know

So any standard wired headphones will work normally, and noise cancelling ones won't (even other generic brands)?

for some reason i see this too with all my earphones (Sennheiser i300, campfire audio polaris, campfire audio atlas) and i found numerous people on the web having similar problems always with sony devices. also had this problem with my xperia 1 ii. but i found if i just unplug and replug most times on 2nd or 3rd attempt they do work. very annoying.

Any normal wired and any other NC wired ones should work other than the 2 Sony made where the NC relied on the custom aux connection inside the phone, they made a different version of them for phones that wasn't there's at the time which had a box connected the wire to power the Noise Cancellation technology,

That's pretty strange I thought it would just be their own wired NC earphones which relied on their custom aux connection to power the NC via the phone,

You'd lose the noise cancelling functionality, but a generic adapter extension dongle like this one will let you at least connect them to the phone to listen. (NB - not specifically recommending this particular listing, but it'll probably work fine, as I'm sure a few others will.)

That sounds about right - i.e. why it doesn't work. The way those headphones worked in your other Sony phones is because the headphone jack had five poles, or thereabouts (that's the individual sections you see on the connector tip) which had to line up with the jack for L&R, Mic and then noise cancellation. If your headset is not five pole, or thereabouts, and the poles don't align to the phones pole connections then you are SOL.

can anyone make a recommendation for a good pair of wired earbuds that work well with the xperia line? i have 3 pairs of good earbuds (sennheiser ie300, campfire audio atlas and polaris). they all work but i have to plug them in 2 or 3 times to get them to work. had this problem with the 1 ii and now with the 1 iii. all 3 earbuds have only 2 rings on the connector. maybe that’s the problem.

Going to get me one of these I think
Looks good!
(Really expensive though!)
Looks good.
but tell me, what happens when you slot your TC into the cradle? My experience is that this type of set-up defaults the audio out to the USB/3.5mm socket and therefore doesn't let you play your sat-nav instructions through the TC speaker.
Fine if you want to play through the car's audio system, but not so good if you want to listen to the car radio and use your sat-nav at the same time.
Is there some way to force the audio through the speaker with this type of cradle?

Yes that is correct, I'm not sure of any reg haks to push the sound through the TC speaker when docked.... although i guess there will be as when docked the TC will play your ring tone through the speaker.

It would be good to hear from someone who already has this. I think I'll get one but didn't get clear answers to all my questions when I asked the supplier. It sounds like:
When it's plugged in, if you do not use the headset or a BT headset, and answer the call using the handset whilst plugged in, you will get the sound through the speaker but there will be no mic so you won't be heard.
As for TomTom, if you want to listen to the radio, surely you'll be able to select the sound off menu item in TomTom.
Also, if you unplug your 3.5mm from the device, you could plug it into the headphone jack of an ipod and listen to an ipod through the stereo.
I'm gonna buy the 40cm one and put the 3 in 1 in the glove box. I've also spent £8 today on a cigarrette power socket for the glove box.
Should be cool if it all works well

Question:
When it's plugged in, if you do not use the headset or a BT headset, and answer the call using the handset whilst plugged in, you will get the sound through the speaker but there will be no mic so you won't be heard.
Answer:
Yes that is correct, I dont have this mount but i use the same 3-way adapter, I use an old HTC headset which includes a MIC, i chopped off the leads to the earbuds and just route the mic in where the speedo is. The 3.5" outet does not support a MIC AFAIK so you have to use a mutliated HTC headset
Question:
As for TomTom, if you want to listen to the radio, surely you'll be able to select the sound off menu item in TomTom.
Answer:
When using tomom, sound will be routed to the 3.5" outlet and the HTC outlet. There may be a cab out there that can route sound to the Touch speaker even when connected to a HTC jack.
Question:
Also, if you unplug your 3.5mm from the device, you could plug it into the headphone jack of an ipod and listen to an ipod through the stereo.
Answer:
Mmmm think you have this the wrong way here, what your actually stating is you connecting your IPOD to your PDA.... In theory the 3.5" jack output is for attaching a tape adapter, FM transmiter or just earphones oh and maybe a 3.5" male to 3.5" male if your stereo takes a 3.5" aux input and also a 3.5" to left ad right RCA type...
Connecting your ipod to the 3.5" will not make it come through the stereo
Hope this helps

S9-HD and G1 pairing problem

Maybe it's just bad luck.
I bought one pair of these off ebay and the microphone didn't work.
It's paired and connected for phone and music. Music control and playback is great. When a phone call comes, the music stops and plays my ring tone in my ear. I answer with the button on the side, but this is where the problems start. While in a phone call I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. The microphone simply doesn't work. I try tapping and blowing to register any sound, and there's nothing.
All the websites say this is supported by the G1, but I'm starting to not believe it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I doing something wrong?
Then I bought a pair from Best Buy. Same thing.
Thank you.
The same thing happened to me actually when I was testing out various bluetooth headsets. Looked like a bit of an idiot in town talking to myself haha. I've not had a chance yet to test a different headset and indeed if the recent fixes (look in the development section for the thread by Meltus) actually work.
Well, IDK, because I have Cupcake and it doesn't work. I think I'm just gonna throw in the towel and return the Best Buy one... and use it just for music, not phone calls...
Official Cupcake (OTA) or a modified one? If you haven't already I would recommend rooting your mobile phone and slapping on the Dude build, this along with the Meltus audio mod has fixed the bluetooth issue.
In my signature there is a link to the FAQ if you need instructions on how to root etc.
Oh man. I used to mess with my Wing so much. I had open touch, touch it, thought about ICP, and everything, but the G1 seems like something I really shouldn't mess with. It seems too... integrated.
On top of that, are there any guarantees this would make my s9-hd work in call?

I have the S9 headset and works fine with my phone, i am running JF1.5
s9-hd
i have the s9-hd bought from someone off of craigslist. pairs perfectly and bass hits hard
Hmm... guess I am s.o.l. Maybe I'll give it another shot, but I think I'm just cursed.
The music is great, the sound quality in call is great, but the mic won't connect, or something.
i had the same problem while on JF 1.51 so i decide to try another rom and it been working fine on cyanogenrom idk if ur into the rooting of ur g1 but that seem to be the only fix for me
I am using the S9 SYN1902 A, they work fine for me on jf 1.50 and jf 1.51.
I had some problems with the s9-hd at first on my G1, but have eventually grew to really like it. I wear it everywhere listening to podcast and shoucast streams using Streamfurious. It has worked about the same using the stock mod and now CM 3.8.6.1.
1. first off it didn't fit my head, but kept stretching it before each use and after about 5 days it now fits perfectly and I can wear it for hours without any fatigue or ear strain.
2. You have to make sure that you turn bluetooth on the G1 first for auto-pairing to work properly.
3. I'd like to get an arm case for the G1 because the audio will cut out by having it in pants pocket. I can use it no problem by placing it in my laptop bag on the go.
4. I have had a strange problem with pairing the headset set, but that was resolved by turning off the radio and turning it back on.
Do these have InEar headphones or standard ones?
For example, are they like this (inear):

the first ones (they come with different sized buds)
JJ, they are more like the in-ear version (but I would say they are not quite as tight as other noise-cancelling in ear headphones I have tried - a good balance imho).
I have this set for almost a year now using it daily (while commuting to work, during exercise, commuting home, and sometimes in the evening while hanging out at home). They have really worked great and I have definitely gotten A LOT of use out of them. However I think they are finally starting to flake out on me. They still work, but not the colored light no longer flashes while I charge it, tho it still seems to charge. Also, some other times while working out the volume starts to beep uncontrollably. Turning the headset off and on again doesn't always work, so I think some sweat might be seeping into the unit causing it to short out. After leaving the unit sit for a while (1hr+) it again seem to work just fine. go figure. Also the adhesive on the back of the unit is definitely starting to peel more and more. If I am unable to mod the S9-HD to breathe more life into it I might be back in the market for a new A2DP headset in the near future.

Sound only works with headphones

Hey,
i have a huge Problem. Somehow the sound of my phone kind of only works with headphones.
Sometimes the rear speaker will give sounds but generally the windows media player never works with the speaker.
Strangely though the alarm works with the speaker. But when i get a phone call, the microphone and the front and rear speaker dont work. if i plugin the earphones it works fine, but as soon as i pull them out it doesent work anymore...
ive tried using different roms but it just wont work.
I have the feeling my system thinks the headphones are plugged in all the time and doesent recognise, when they get pulled out.
Anyone got an idea?
Greets

Let me tell you that i have exactlly the same problem
My device recognise that a hands free kit is still inserted even when i unplug it !!!
so, when i get an incoming call or alarm event, the internal speaker works.
Otherwise, no sound till i plug in the hands free kit.
any help please !!!
I have a Qtek s200 3G

Mine is a Vodafone vpa compact-s
g4.
Does anyone have an idea what we can do?
I have had this problem before and it eventually just worked again.
But im not sure if it happened by chance or if i did something...
And well... i´m stuck with the same problem agaain
Greets
David
Let's ask firstlly if that is a hardware or a soft issus ???
And i suppose that is a hardware problem !
in the other hand, i disassembled my Qtek looot's of times and i didn't find any dammaged thing wich corresponds to the sound !!!
any way that was just my oppinion !
waiting for experienced users to help...
Sound problem fix
I had the same problem. Easy fix. Blow in the earphone hole a few times.
It worked for me. Guess there was dirt inside.
you have to open your device like what i did.
But be carefull.
if don't know how to open your device, i advice you to not to do it.
ask an experienced hands to heal your Prophet
after opening your device, look at the jack, you will see it covered, its actually covered by a lil plastic cover that you can pop off with a small screw driver. the jack will be like this

when you unplug the earphones, the metal parts shown in the red circle on the photo must be connected.
when you put in the earphones the metal parts must be disconnected.
that's all
Good luck.

...I think it's not secessary at all....... I had the same problem and I did:
(DO THIS ON YOUR OWN RISK!!!)
1st. Put a .mp3 song using your mp3 player (for example tcpmp or windows media player)
2nd. Insert your 2.5mm headphone jack one time, two times, three times...and revove it doing a little angle..(similar to lever)
3rd. If you can't make your speaker sing, try to insert a different item through the speakers hole (be careful!!!)
I repaired it and I never had the same problem!!!

Sound Problem
I had the same problem as you. As " specter16" said, the problem is the hardware inside the 2.5mm jack. After plugging in the headfones in and out a few times the problem occured and i had to open my device again. I never found a real solution, and so I started to use Bluetooth-Headphones (iTech Blueband)
I use them now for about 2 years....
Maybe anyone of you will try them^^

G1 Handsfree Audio Solution??

Hi, I've been using my G1 since its release. I recently sold my iPod touch and am trying to replace it with my G1. I got an HTC adapter that plugs into the HTC mini usb and pushes to a: (1) Charging mini usb, (2) Headset Mini usb, (3) 2.5mm w/inline mic, and (4) 3.5mm w/inline mic. In my car I have one of those 3.5mm to tape deck adapters. The problem to which I can't find a hardware solution and hope to find a software solution is; When I plug in my "3.5mm/tape-deck" adapter to the 3.5mm of the HTC adapter when I receive calls the inline mic input gets pushed through to the "3.5mm/tape-deck" which then gets "dead-ended" in the tape player. I was wondering if there is a way I can override the mic input to stay on the built-in mic on my G1. Sorry if this doesn't make sense I'm doing my best to explain my problem. In theory this should be an easy fix, I think. I'll accept a hardware solution I suppuse but I'd prefer a software solution.
PS: I'm running CyanogenMod 4.2.14.1 So my phone is rooted and you can post root only solutions.

it makes sense, its just that I have no knowledge of anything about cars at all! haha
I use this to my advantage and use it as an almost hands-free device.
I don't quite know what you mean by "dead-ends" in the tape player, it should just hold the music and have the call, then when it ends, the music starts back from the pause.
I think the amount of people that do that are greater than the people that want the music to play and talk on the phone at the same time.
You can always unplug the phone and pick it up if you want to talk like that, with that phone in your ear.
Thanks for all the responses. I think I need to clarify this. This is the adapter im using: (edit: I am not allowed to use outside links. well its the htc 4 in one adapter. Its like the first one that pops up when you google HTC 4 in one adapter)
My problem is that my 3.5mm/tape-deck adapter has only 2-rings but the mic is automatically routed through, as though I had a headset plugged into the 3.5mm port. So when someone calls I can only hear them and cannot speak into the mic even though there is a mic on the phone. The phone "thinks" that there is a mic that I can speak into. I need a way to force route the mic input to the embedded one, even while my tape-deck adapter is plugged in.
The ultimate goal of all this is so that I can do everything on my phone in my car without picking it up and thereby maximizing safety.
PS If you don't understand any of what I said just ask and I'll do my best to explain. I am using layman's terms.
The original works great
The original HTC wired headset comes as two pieces. The section connected to the handset has the mic and pause button on it. The earbuds that come with it are just standard 3.5mm stereo earbuds. You replace the earbuds with the jack from the cassette adapter and Bob's your uncle. I've tried it in my truck. I'm not using the cassette adapter but my stereo has an audio input jack on the front. (Same sort of thing) There is a little echo on the other end of the call. It's not bad though.
I have the original wire headset that came with the G1, it is a single piece unit. Can you post a link to your headset? I googled htc headset but couldn't come up with anything like you described.
edit: Found the wire headset for the AT&T Tilt. It has a mini USB plug and is a 2piece unit.
HTC changed the headset for the G1 after the launch. Originally it was just the headset with the htc proprietary end on it, then they released it with an adapter and 3.5mm headphones.
Unfortunatly for us Canadians, Rogers did not release the Dream with an adapter so we have to pay to use 3.5mm headphones.
I was recently handed a Nokia HF-510 to demo (http://www.nokiausa.com/find-produc...n-handsfree/nokia-display-speakerphone-hf-510)
It's a Bluetooth car speaker phone. The only down side was that the G1 doesn't support the Phonebook Access profile, so you couldn't browse your contacts from the speaker phone, but it's sound quality was excellent, and can be very loud so using it with the windows down while on the highway was very nice. The mic gets pretty good pickup, so no need to shout at the thing. I just didn't like the shape... kinda bulky, so stowing it away in the glove box wasn't really ideal.
Thoughts
Im pretty much is same boat as you..From ur explaination i believe you have this adapter..

...On any donut or cupcake roms..the mic signal seems to be rerouted back to tape deck as u said...buttttt...when i had a hero or eclair rom installed..it used the mic on the g1 itself..whilest still utilizing car stereo..so maybe its something in the software..or drivers..hope this helps
I have found that my only solution is JupiterJack or something similar. Just like the tape adapter that you're using, but it's wireless. You set the radio to a dead station and it picks up the signal from the JupiterJack. Now, mind you, I have only tested with WinMo so I can't tell you for sure if the G1 will use it's built-in mic, or if it will search usb for a mic signal and assume there is a mic present on the usb port. This is probably a 1.5 flaw, and is -definitely- a software issue because I have seen 'hands-free' devices like JupiterJack that specifically say they're only compatible with 1.6+

CTIA and OMTP headphone converter cable

I have used one of these cables to connect my Brainwavz M4 with microphone to my Xperia Active.
It is a small 5cm cable that plugs into Xperia phones which will allow you to use previously incompatible headphones with mic/vol control.
Picked it up for $8 from mobimega.

does anyone know where i can find this in South Africa? Cape Town,
i am busy trying to connect lapel mics to my Xperia T through a TRRS cable but with the assistance of this cable i should be able to do it. no body around here knows what i am talking about when i ask for a OMPT to CTIA converter cable.
your assistance would be greatly apreciated,
thanks
Jamey
so i used the Iphone connector/converter cable and it works. the only thing is you cant push the mic jack in all the way otherwize it doesnt pick up but other than that it works great.
i have the Xperia T
I hope this will work on sony mh1c.

Hi,
I am planning to but FIIO LU2 Adapter For my live with walkman. I have already bought MH-Ex300AP(Xperia Z Headphones Which is CTIA Based).
Will FIIO LU2 Adapter make MH-Ex300AP compatible with my phone(live with walkman)?
Thanks in Advance....
You could always crack the mic unit open and reverse the GND and V-Mic pinout.
I should know, I did this to some Xperia Sola (CTIA) headsets and they work perfectly with my Mini Pro.
Anything available in india.. want to use sound magic mp21

I know some cables that have function like Fiio LU2 such as Sony Ericsson EC 250, but all of them not available in Vietnam :crying:
I have CTIA/OMTP converter (I think is official sony) and it works for sound, mic and main button, but volume buttons don't work. I have a Xperia Ray with GB and in ear headphones for iPod, iPhone. Are volume buttons incompatible with this settings? I need a third party app?
