Pay to unlock, but for what you paid for it, the unlocking fee should be worth it. Just do a google search for unlock galaxy note
I think you probably got the GT-N7000 Galaxy Note, which is the international version. It's got a large physical button in the center below the screen, the SGH-i717 (The US version) has four softkeys below the screen.
I thought the internet meant that all the necessary tools were online. So why do I now have to take my Galaxy s3 mini to a dealer in a shop?

So my s6 edge is currently locked to EE UK and I'm a giffgaff member.
It will take ages for ee to give me a code and I have to fork out to unlock my phone.
The thing is my phone is rooted and I was wondering now that it is rooted would it be possible to find my network unlocking code via some sort of app that will calculate it or whether I can unlock it some other way right now so I can use my new baby it makes me sad having it and not being able to use it now
If not I don't have much choice il just take it to the shop tomorrow but I'm hoping that won't be needed and that the code is stored somewhere or can be calculated

Depends where you live. I know for a fact in Canada you just need to live chat Samsung and provide proof of purchase. Then they'll provide you with an unlock code.
There's also software like Z3X or Miracle Box that will unlock the phone for you. But usually it requires the phone to be rooted. Same goes for MSL Reader (play store app)
I'm not sure about other countries, but Samsung loves Canada so much that they give us our own models for their flagship products. Or it's government censorship. I haven't quite figured it out yet.. lol

check with your carrier website if they do offer unlocking the device by yourself.
my carrier in my country offers unlocking the device by yourself for free in their website, however they charge a small fee if you unlock it through their shops
