Kill app with back button? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Questions

How to get it back? Seems like it was disabled some time ago and only now I noticed that. Super annoying with some apps like youtube music when switches APs in house and it disconnects from TV and need to force kill it to reconnect :/

In custom ROMs, you had to activate it at the bottom of the developers' options.
In recent (custom ?) ROMs, I've seen it moved to buttons settings ("action for long-press on the back button", or something similar).

[Q] home "recent apps" list

I just installed a ROM (Senseless ROM 1.1) and I'm liking it a lot. But I noticed something odd when pressing and holding the "home" key to bring up the "recent apps" list. Every few minutes the oldest items drop off the end of the list.
So initially maybe I have 4 apps in the list, then after a while of switching between apps 1 and 2, suddenly there are only 3 apps in the list, then 2. And eventually it even drops down to 0 so the app I'm currently running isn't even in the list. Does the stock phone do this too and I only just now noticed it or is this feature only an issue with my particular ROM? What aspect of android controls the app switcher (if that's what it's called).
I'm using launcher-pro if it matters, and I haven't installed any task switchers from the market. I might consider getting one of the market task switchers as a decent workaround, but I'm not necessarily keen on the interface they all seem to use (tap home -> task switcher; tap home twice -> home screen of your launcher that you would otherwise get to with a single tap).
I haven't yet found any settings for controlling the app switcher. Are there any, and where do they live?
I almost can't imagine that this is an intentional design feature of the "recent app" history, but after an LED "notification" light that turns off after 5 minutes, anything is possible.
For what it's worth I started using the market app "PreHome" as a task switcher and am finding it a good replacement for the default. Now I just hit [home] once to bring up the PreHome app which maintains a good history, and never use the hold [home] to get the default android task history.
Oddly enough I haven't been able to reproduce the original problem I had reported, even when I do use the default switcher for a while.
I knew this would happen.. as soon as I reported that it wasn't reproducing anymore I started hitting the problem again. At least the part where semi-old items start dropping off the history list. I still haven't yet reproduce a history list containing 0 items.
Browsing the web seems to be the most reliable way to make older apps fall off the end of the list. Specifically I was browsing m.zedge.net listening to ringtones.
Anyway the only new news is that when an item drops out of the traditional app history list, it also dropped out of the PreHome app's list.

[Q] Switching between 4 apps in the car and other environments

What is the fastest and easiest way way to switch between four apps in the car. For example Google Nav, Poweramp, Trapster, and a speedometer app. A wave of the hand would be nice. I have looked at several and used a few. Smart Task Switcher, a reviewer said “Was warned about this app due to access to contacts permissions which dev says is used in China for advertising”. AppSwipe only does two ( the last opened). The “car apps” say nothing about task switching or is it shown in the Youtube videos. It would be nicer if an app would isolate and load these four programs from one key push then allow fast switching. A snap of the fingers would be another way to switch between these four apps. Also, a slideshow type thing of these four apps with the option to stay on the current one showing might be an idea. Or, one app that puts to the front the needed app, like the media player about the first and last 5 seconds of a song, trapster like app that would popup during notifications, navigation about 10 seconds before and after turns, and the speedometer the rest of the time. I'm just thinking out loud. Holding down the home key is not a good fit. Bottom line is I need a better task switcher (not killer) for the auto. An app that would allow me to map a steering wheel button in my 2011 Ford Fusion SEL for task switching would be golden! A friend's suggestion was to get four phones, so that one is already out there.
I tried Car Dock Home v3. It works by using a launcher that uses the back key to return to it's home screen, then another task can be selected via a shortcut. Unfortunately it cancels Google Navigation when the back key is hit to go to CDHv3 home screen. This would have been a better solution as it takes two key presses. It would be the best solution to perform one action to cycle through the desired programs. I installed Smart Task Switcher and that was good in theory but I could not find how to configure correctly and the floating button is far too small and often requires several taps, and that is sitting at the desk. There is a paid version where some of this is supposedly settable but from my experience with this app I don't think this is a solution.
The car was the first place that came to mind. But the need to quickly and efficiently switch task is useful in several environments.
I have hit a dead end and any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hey man,Im surprised you expect a phone to act as a tomtom,mp3 player and christ knows what else simultaneously.

The S2 runs everything just fine, there is just not an efficient way to switch between them.

[Q] Viper 2.1.1 - hidden apps randomly reappear / no cursor keys on HTC soft-keyboard

Hi there,
actually almost since the beginning with Viper 2.1.1 I have a few very strange annoyances:
1) when I hide a few apps inside the app-drawer they seem to be hidden first ... but after a while (not even a reboot needed) a couple of those randomly reappear in the app-drawer instead of staying hidden. the reappearing apps not even needed to be started inbetween. some stay hidden, but at least half of them just keep popping back <- i use the "hide app" feature to clean my drawer from those apps that i put on my homescreens separately already.
2) somewhere in the Viper settings there was the option to enable/disable the arrow-keys on the std onscreen keyboard. it just doesn't seem to have any persistant effect for me?! - neither enabled or disabled ... in 90% of all apps (needing keyboard input) the arrow keys are just NOT there even when enabled. only a very few apps like the build-in webbrowser seem to allow the cursor keys to be seen.
thanks for your help :fingers-crossed:
... not even anyone any idea on this?
sry to bump ... but no one any ideas on this?
I too am wondering about the arrow keys not showing up in anything other than stock apps like Internet, Messaging, etc. I don't remember if they showed up in other apps when I was stock. It would be nice to have since I tend to use them a lot when they are available.
For the un-hiding apps in the app drawer, I don't think I've experienced that. I just hid a few then rebooted, they were all still hidden. I will keep an eye on it to see if they unhide. I am on the latest version, Viper 2.2.0.
Do you ever get random reboots?
thanks for checking ... random reebots? i don't think so ... appart maybe from 2 unexpected ones in 2 months or so
They are all still hidden after a day. You could try flashing 2.2.0.
might depend also on other factors. i have like 100 apps installed xD ... and 60'ish hidden (as they are in folders on the different home-screens) ... so i prefer to have them hidden in the drawer. as for viper2.20 ... it needs a _full wipe_ and that's more hassle then i'm currently intending to spend so i'm gonna wait for the next big update with JB i think (or the Infernal+ maybe, if they get the cam working).

fastest way to force stop an app?? help please

what is the fastest, easiest way to force stop an app ?? i know settings, apps, find app, but with a bunch of apps its a pita. any other tricks, shortcuts, safe apps, or any other ideas?? not looking at hiding the notification, but stopping the app.
say 2 things, new to oreo and s9, last phone was an s7. anyways, if i had a program running in the notifications, say for my motorcycle gps, tomtom, i was able to long press the notification, then go to app data and force stop. not seeing that anymore.
Trying to find the fastest way to force stop an app running, that has a notification. for example this one says connect device. I am not trying to hide the notification, but force close it when i don't want it running. for example this app gives me live traffic, sometimes i want it, sometimes i don't.
thanks much for the time
settings, developer options, running services
that seems to work too, and the app i want to end is on the first page.
seems easier than the apps, and scrolling down to the Ms
hmm
Greenify, then you can set what you want to force close, and then make a home screen button. Bam it easily blows them away.
Recents, long press the app icon on the left, wait for the i info letter to appear on the right, press i, force stop.
You're welcome

love it, thanks so much !!!!
I'm dumb
...
world be nice to find an app that shows ALL opened apps and services and can completely close it in one click.
thank you so much!!!!
I just moved from s7. on s7 android 7 I can long press shortcut on home and can tab on i icon That menu has removed.
The apps you actively use are closed when you swipe them away in recents. You dont need any fancy force closing. Try it. Open recents, swipe away the app, when you open it again it loads from scratch. Or am I missing something?
Smashing the phone on the ground.

That not correct. Some application even you remove it from recent app it still run in background.
In my case Facebook Messenger is often cause media sound issue, after end call sometime media sound route to earpiece. Two way to solve that is kill the app or restart phone.
You can use my apps Killapps and Hibernator

Question Buggy navigation pill swipe from home on latest update

So, a week or so ago I've been forced to install an OTA update (despite disabling these in settings, because see this thread), and now my navigation is screwed up.
Swiping right on the pill from any regular app correctly switches to the previous one. Doing the same on a home screen (tested with Nova 6 and Total launcher) *seems* to be doing the same, but in reality it enters a fullscreen version of "app carousel" that you normally enter swiping up on the pill.
The easiest way to spot it (and mostly how it screws me up) is that the next pill swipe right won't switch to the next app, but instead smoothly scroll over multiple of them. Another thing is that because it's the carousel and not actual app (despite being properly fullscreen), any iteraction enters the app, showing the fade-in animation. And only then you can normally use it, so it basically eats the first input you do. Except swipe up, which, like on the proper carousel, kills the app.
This DOES NOT happen with the stock Asus launcher, but I don't want to use it. It also was working well before the update, I swipe to get to the last back from home constantly.
In the attached video, you can see me demonstrating the problem:
- [00:01] First there's a regular "swipe pill up" to open the recents carousel, scrol it back and forth, start swiping up some app, this works as expected
- [00:06] Then, back on home screen, I swipe right on the pill directly, entering the bugged state despite it looking like if it just entered the Reddit app
- [00:08] But another swipe right, instead of swapping to the SCP Reader app, just scrolls thorugh a bunch of them
- [00:13] After swiping back to the first on the list, clicking a post makes a weird "pop-in" animation
- [00:15] Because now we're out of the bugged state and entered the app properly, only the next click selects a post like it should
- [00:17] Back home again, swipe right to enter bugged state like I usually get back to an app after unlocking the phone
- [00:19] Click to exit bugged state again
- [00:21] Swiping right on the pill *from an app*, which works as expected
- [00:22+] Swiping sideways on pill a few more times to show that it's *not* in the bugged state and changes one app at a time, also entering these properly right away
Does anyone also experience this? Obv I tried restarting the phone, disabling/enabling the pill and in general messing with as many settings as I could to try and poke it, but nothing still. It's SUPER disruptive in everyday use, I'd be very glad to try any suggestions/fixes.
This has been happening for last 3 updates if I recall correctly. I have switched to stock launcher until it's fixed.
Really sucks, A13 finally fixed issues with 3rd party launchers but after an update this issue appeared.
