Is there currently a GB ROM / kernal that charges at normal speed and without the GB charging bug?

The first leaked kernels had the slow charge issue. Any of the newer ones will have that issue fixed.

I guess the next question would be, what is a newer one? I still see this problem frequently stated in even recent ROM updates.

Not really. Even IMO's newest kernel still has issues with charging.

Concur. Don't mix the kernel charging issue with a rom.
Every kernel I've tried has the slow charging. Reboot while charging and it's fixed.
I was afraid of that. Thanks for the quick responses.
Since I've completely wiped then installed Gingeritis 1.0 I've had no more charging issues and the battery life is good. When I tried to add a battery mod I got the charging problem back. I restored prior to the mod and battery life and charging is back to good.
Has anyone noticed that charging is slower with 4.4.4 ?
Has anyone figured a way to peek into the rom to find out where the charging rate is set?

You didn't want to root did you?
If you do then doomkernel (and the pimped port for cm/aosp based ROMs) has fastcharge if you want to risk burning out a usb port or the charger

As far as I am concerned flashing Candy ROM needs changing kernel, and you won't be able to do this without an unlocked bootloader.
i have the same curious question too. Last night i was charging via dock. And boy that was slow! In 4.4.2 it was way faster with the DK30. Don't know why, need more charging cycle to conclude.

off topic
Candy will need an unlocked BL and no [NUT]'s recovery won't work as it is for Sony based ROMs
.108 rooted/locked_bl feels slower than non-rooted
I noticed that the charge to reach the green led needs much more time than when it wasn't rooted and not unlocked and locked back.
I thought charge rates were dependent on the charging block itself? Also if it isn't dependent on just the charger itself, how warm is your phone when it's charging? Warmer phones take longer to charge because if it is being warm before charging commences, that means the battery is being worked hard from drainage.
I did a couple measurements by downgrading to 4.4.3
i kept the phone cool with a fan
I didn't see significant difference in charge rates... something like 10% difference, unimportant
When I had a Galaxy Note 2, there was an app which read the charging current from somewhere in /proc, so you could see which chargers were more effective.
Is there an app or a way through adb shell to find the current charging current?

Hello everybody, here I am for some informations about the battery life of galaxy alpha. I am using an official stock rom 5.0.2 of Samsung. I charge my phone 2 or 3 times per day, but recently I check the battery usage in the setting and I see the wifi seems to be actived all the time even I set it off. Please check the attachment file for screenshot. I just wonder if the problem comes from firmware or I just have to change my battery?
Best regards

I don't know which firmware I have to use, I'm afraid I will lose all the functions of Samsung. I had flashed the cyanogenmod on my old galaxy note, it's not stable at all. I just hope the Alpha will receive any update (marshmallow) even this may not be happend.

Yes, I am using this battery and it is perfect (2500 mAh instead of 1860), but it hasn't NFC (I don't care... never used it)
Does it last longer than the 1860 battery? There are cheap ones on eBay that claim to be 2500, but I doubt they last longer than the 1860.

I am on official firmware update from OTA, if I flash the official firmware from sammobile, it's the same thing I doubt... I am in France, if I flash the firmware that come from other countries, I'm afraid it wouldn't run correctly and there's maybe some problems with the network.
Wi-fi location scanning
There are two possibilities for excessive battery consumption with wi-fi. If your phone is set to always scan, then this will still cause the battery to drain as the wi-fi is never really disabled.
Disable this function with 'Settings > Wi-fi > advanced > always keep wi-fi on > never' the advanced settings are under the little 3dot menu at the top right of the wi-fi settings screen.
The other option may be that Google's location services may be causing a drain by using wi-fi to geolocate you.
Try disabling location services for a day and see how it pans out for you.
If neither of these help then I'm all out.
Good luck

Is the battery thicker and do you need a different backcover to fit the battery?
OTA update size is 502M.

As I understand, there's no truely 'Global' ROM for the phone, there are only Chinese and Indian versions. You can see which one is used by two letter country code in a ROM name. For example, MIUI V10.3.5.0.PFHCNXM is Chinese.
It's out for the Indian variant too ..I received it through an OTA update.
What's sepical on India variant .
I'm out of box global variant
There's not much of a difference, where exactly did u purchase your phone from?
anyone facing low charging current (around 200ma-800ma) while screen is on, in this 10.3.5.0(PFHINXM) update which pushed in Indian variants?

I observed something similar, but did not pay much attention to it. As soon as I unlocked bootloader I switched onto LineageOS

Hi i was first using PE then switched back to miui via fast boot rom then after a few days i noticed a sudden fast battery draining, tho it charges faster but it also drains at a high rate. Now i switched to eu rom hoping for an improvement but nothing has changed. What would you guys suggest?

Hi!!! It doesn't seem to work. I already changed rom and kernel (arter) but this doesnt seem to be the solution. I think replacing the battery will be the only way left

Also, try to make complete charge cycle (Drain it to 0% and charge it to 100% when your phone is shutdown) and test your battery drain again
try this kernel

Switch to MIUI EU 11.0.5 ROM
Flash Magisk
Flash Twisted Kernel
Install Spectrum App from Playstore
Select Battery Profile
Enjoy 8-10 hrs SOT !!!
before you could take bold decision to change the Battery!
flash 9.6.x vendor / firmware
I have always found Higher batter drains on vendor+firm higher than 9.6.27-9.0 !
also would recomend to do CLEAN FLASHING (if formating data is possible for you ) then do it (take all backup)
more over if you using application which is depending on Screen like (gravity screen) or ambiant display for screen to wakeup randomly whenever music track change or whenever you recieve any notification, PLEASE disable them! , third party apps sometimes abuse sensors and affect performance!
for kernels, I myself found difference between battery performance in various
I use Twisted kernel (pie) (since i am on pie) but you can try Opitimus drunk, its also amazing kernel!
if in custom rom you are laydown apps via rooted method such as
1. MIGRATE or
2. TITANIUM backup
then all the bitter settings from any malicious battery draining third party app is also reinstated! hence keep close eye which apps actually to restore with DATA!
