Has anyone noticed that charging is slower with 4.4.4 ?
Has anyone figured a way to peek into the rom to find out where the charging rate is set?

You didn't want to root did you?
If you do then doomkernel (and the pimped port for cm/aosp based ROMs) has fastcharge if you want to risk burning out a usb port or the charger

As far as I am concerned flashing Candy ROM needs changing kernel, and you won't be able to do this without an unlocked bootloader.
i have the same curious question too. Last night i was charging via dock. And boy that was slow! In 4.4.2 it was way faster with the DK30. Don't know why, need more charging cycle to conclude.

off topic
Candy will need an unlocked BL and no [NUT]'s recovery won't work as it is for Sony based ROMs
.108 rooted/locked_bl feels slower than non-rooted
I noticed that the charge to reach the green led needs much more time than when it wasn't rooted and not unlocked and locked back.
I thought charge rates were dependent on the charging block itself? Also if it isn't dependent on just the charger itself, how warm is your phone when it's charging? Warmer phones take longer to charge because if it is being warm before charging commences, that means the battery is being worked hard from drainage.
I did a couple measurements by downgrading to 4.4.3
i kept the phone cool with a fan
I didn't see significant difference in charge rates... something like 10% difference, unimportant
When I had a Galaxy Note 2, there was an app which read the charging current from somewhere in /proc, so you could see which chargers were more effective.
Is there an app or a way through adb shell to find the current charging current?

Hi all,
First, sorry for posting in quistions & answers. I cannot reply on the actual topic in development.
I flashed the Darksense 1.0.0 kernel which says the Fast Charge is supported. But after flashing i still can't fast charge. Ampere app shows it starts very nice on 1860mA but then slowly goes down to 250mA. I'm using a qc 3 fast charger. Someone has any idea what i'm doing wrong? Or is there another kernel i can try for qc support?

The charging curve of all fast charge technologies decreases in gradient as the device charges, so a decrease over time of charging Amps is completely normal. In any case, in the next version of DarkSense kernel, we have increased the charging rate more.
Oke thnx! At least now i know i'm not doing anything wrong. I hope next version, will be there soon . Thnx for the great work.

Just released it
Nice, installed it without any problems! Will let you know about the fast charge . Good work! Thnx!
If i charge it with my qc3 adapter it will charge for 1% a minute, not very fast, but definitly faster. If I use my qc3 power bank it charges a little slower. I don't know why cause the output seems the be the same.
But great work your kernel helped me a lot!
For me with elephone fastcharger It full charge in 2:20 hours More or less
Tried beta kernel 1.2.0 buy still charge is slow, and in my car's usb, It does not even charge, It just maintain the battery
Hey @Jonny Much faster after a wipe caché dalvik . Even in the car It charge really fast. Many thanksss

The SOC doesn't support QC, you need an mtk pump express charger for quick charging. It should charge at [email protected]

Letting your battery drain to 0% is bad and letting it charge to 100% is bad as well.
You both are ruining your batteries

I don't know which ROM you are using. It's a good start to search in your ROM's thread to see whether other people have the same problem and maybe found a solution.
If that doesn't help, flash a custom kernel like KudKernel (Oreo only) or Franco kernel (Oreo and Nougat). You will find them here in the development section

No, Franco is for Custom ROMs like Lineage only.
Very common issue on the redmi note 4 mine went the same way, and would do the power supply disconnecting after it started to do this, get a new charge circuit very easy to change and cheap at under £3
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/273041868428
My Note 4 running stock MiUi 9.5.x (up to date) and I am too facing the same slow charging issue. Usually I charge between 20-80% and once a 10/12 days, I do a full 100% charge !!
Backup is good, satisfactory SoT but charging is hellishly slow !!
These are my charging stats {measured using ampere app}
Is it normal for redmi note 4.
Please measure yours and post the stats here .
Thanks.
So my charging port got damaged and it used to take hours to charge the phone while not using it, then I got it repaired recently
But I notice that while charging it, the battery keeps decreasing, I am using the original charger. I did also try a few other chargers but it seems to be the same
My battery does increase when screen is off and I leave it aside for a level, at a slower rate.
I want to know how to fix this battery decreasing while charging?
Try to install kernel again.
Agni kernel give you the option for thermal libs and more. This may change your charge time.
If not work for you, see in the forum a post with diode problem.

if you dont like agni kernel i dont know other fix for it.
in my opinion you may try this and if it worked search alternative fix... but you know the problem.
if not try it you dont know if the thermal libs can solve your issue.
yopu try with other chargers... but with other cable???

Flash Twisted Kernel
Install Spectrum App from Playstore

before you could take bold decision to change the Battery!
flash 9.6.x vendor / firmware
I have always found Higher batter drains on vendor+firm higher than 9.6.27-9.0 !
also would recomend to do CLEAN FLASHING (if formating data is possible for you ) then do it (take all backup)
more over if you using application which is depending on Screen like (gravity screen) or ambiant display for screen to wakeup randomly whenever music track change or whenever you recieve any notification, PLEASE disable them! , third party apps sometimes abuse sensors and affect performance!
for kernels, I myself found difference between battery performance in various
I use Twisted kernel (pie) (since i am on pie) but you can try Opitimus drunk, its also amazing kernel!
if in custom rom you are laydown apps via rooted method such as
1. MIGRATE or
2. TITANIUM backup
then all the bitter settings from any malicious battery draining third party app is also reinstated! hence keep close eye which apps actually to restore with DATA!

Are you sure the battery is original?
Go to my POCO F1 Ultimate Collection & Guides thread, at Battery Tips and do Battery Calibration. Then check your Battery Health Capacity and post a screenshot with the results.
PS: If you are on stock ROM I recommend you to move on custom ROM. MIUI drain your Battery fast.
OK I will do that. Meanwhile I have noted that the battery drains very fast when the screen is on. (I'm using a low brightness setting) like 1% every 5 minutes. Any suggestions?
And "Power consumed by other apps" is always high

Oh. I am still using the original one. 27 months old, 73% capacity. Since enabling bypass charging only 56 battery cycles used up in the last 9 months. Otherwise I think I would have been forced to look into a third-party replacement by now considering the very heavy usage. Official battery is exorbitantly priced.
I have been using mine since Feb 14 2019 and that's over 34months. Just few 2days ago I noticed drastic battery drain although often it's on heavy use. Now I can't restart my phone and boot up except when I plug it to the charger because it boots up. I am on stock ROM? Right now I don't mind installing custom ROM it will fix the problem.

It appears the battery is shot and needs to be replaced. If rooted you check the battery capacity from the built-in kernel profile. Actually I revoked root access from Device Info HW app and it was still showing battery capacity as derived from the kernel profile so maybe it doesn't require root? Mines at 2912mAh.
Accubattery is another option and in F1 I found it to be pretty accurate. But it requires several charging sessions for the estimate.

Looks like w/o root it's not possible to read the data from the kernel profile after all. Xiaomi seems to have removed the necessary stuff later from MIUI. That article is out of date.
I would refrain from flashing MIUI at this stage. Have you unlocked the bootloader? Almost every report of irreversible bootloop seems to involve MIUI.

If you have never unlocked the bootloader of any Xiaomi device before I guess you need to create an account and apply for unlocking permission. For Poco devices it's a 3 day wait period but in my case and several others besides it was near instant. I had last gone through this over 2 years ago so I am not sure if anything has changed or not. Do keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader will wipe out out the internal storage so make backups beforehand as required.
In the meantime install Accubattery. For quicker estimate a few 10-100% cycles will suffice. Discharging lower might cause random shutdowns etc. if it's the battery at fault.
