S21 and Bluetooth Media - Samsung Galaxy S21 Questions

Hi,
Whenever my phone connects to my car's bluetooth, it will automatically start playing the last media I played. The problem, is that I will go DAYS without ever using media on my phone so I will resume a podcast from last week despite the fact that the podcast app is closed. I notice that even when I force stop the app, I can go into the Menu, go to Media, and still see it sitting there with no way to close it. Also, if I pause the media...after a while my car will disconnect from the bluetooth and then reconnect...which then resumes the media again. Oh, and if I get a notification about something like an email...you guessed it, the media will resume again. This is beyond frustrating because I often like to go on quiet car rides...and again this happens even when I force close the app (podcast, spotify, whatever).
This was also an issue with my S10, but not my Pixels. This has to be a OneUI or Galaxy specific issue. I have seen mentions of this bt/media issue in other boards when searching but the only thing I have seen to semi fix the problem is by setting up Tasker.
I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue and has resolved it. I am also wondering if there is a way to switch to a vanilla android os ROM so I don't have to use OneUI anymore. To clarify, I have been using Nova, but that doesn't change how the phone handles media.
Thank you for your help.

[Q] Touchwiz crash with Bluetooth

Hello,
I am having a problem where Touchwiz crashes after about half an hour to an hour of listening to Bluetooth audio through my car stereo.
The problem does not occur with the stock music player (or hasn't yet in the timeframes I've been testing it). However it occurs with pretty much any other player I've tried (thus far PlayerPro, Poweramp, and Audible). The symptoms are pretty much always the same. Audio works perfectly for quite a while, then it stops, phone kind of freezes for a couple of seconds, then Touchwiz resets. Often after it restarts I have trouble either connecting to or playing audio through Bluetooth. Sometimes that fixes itself, sometimes I have to do a full reboot.
I have had the device replaced in case it was a Bluetooth hardware issue but I'm having the same issue on the new handset. So far the issue is 100% reproducible.
It's an unrooted, stock phone running IMM76D.I9300XXALF2. I'm on Three UK. At this stage I am not planning to root the device. However if there was a clear reason why doing so might fix this issue then I might.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
If someone has time to have a look, I have managed to record an ADB log from the crash. I believe the crash happens at 20:29:36 - based on there being a lot of information about a Fatal Signal 11 at that point (although I did think that was just related to specific apps crashing), and then all the services die very soon after.
At some point, I will try with another Bluetooth stereo to see if it's specific to my current one. But I don't have any available, so was hoping someone might be able to help narrow things down in the meantime.
I've also gone to Samsung with the issue, and sent them the log, but who knows if they'll ever get back with anything useful.
Touchwiz crash with Bluetooth
Hi.
I have the same problem with an S2 LTE (not S3) from Rogers in Canada and a JVC radio except mine crashes after 30 minutes. It worked fine before upgrading from 2.3 to 4.0.4.
Model SGH-I727R
Version 4.0.4
Baseband version: I727RUXLF3
Kernel 3.0.8-perf-I727RUXLF3-CL611724 [email protected] #1. Compiled Sat Jun 9, 21:24:26 KST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.RUXLF3
When playing a podcast (BeyondPod) or audiobook (Audible) for 30 minutes, the phone freezes and a few seconds later the screen locks and all the status icons disappear. They all come back as if the phone just booted but it's not the long boot you would get if you powered off and on so it must be Touchwiz crashing. I also see a notice saying it's safe to remove my SDCard and then it re-mounts.
For me it is 30 minutes +/- 1 minute and it's consistent. If I shut off Bluetooth and immediately turn it back on after 25 minutes, I will have another 30 minutes without any problems.
I tried manually unmounting the SDCard while streaming over Bluetooth and it gracefully shut down the application and unmounted the card without any issues.
Others have had this issue too. Google for 'Issue 28006: ICS Bluetooth and Sony car headset'
I contacted Samsung support but so far they haven't helped. Their first response was to take it back to the carrier.
Have you find a solution for this? If not can you submit a support request with Samsung? If they get enough reports maybe they'll do something.

That's quite interesting. Mine is also a JVC stereo so I wonder if that's related. Mine could be exactly 30 minutes - I've not actually checked that. I will next time.
Out of interest, have you used PowerAmp before? The log I attached is from using PowerAmp, but since a recent update it actually seems to be fixed in that! But it still happens in Audible and other audio apps. I'd be interested to see if it works for you as well.
Samsung haven't been particularly helpful, other than saying they will look at the ADB log and release an update (for the SIII) if "it turns out to be a real issue" (which annoyed be, because it obviously is a real issue).
The Audible developers on the other hand are very interested and I have provided them quite a bit of info on the problem. I will pass them this thread too. I should try out the shutting off Bluetooth thing as a work around. Surprised I hadn't until now.
I haven't used PowerAmp but I did try the stock Android music player and it also crashed. I played a one hour podcast and after around 35 minutes it crashed as usual. At first I thought it was going to keep working as it's usually right around 30 minutes but it did eventually crash.
Did you report the problem to the PowerAmp author or was it just luck that the new version had a fix for it?
Samsung sent me an RMA shipping label. I have no plans on sending back my device for a software bug only to get back someone else's defective/fixed unit back with the same bug.
If this really is a bug in Touchwiz on ICS then we should ask others to test it in a general forum. I don't think this happens when playing music, only when playing one stream over 30 minutes. We need to find more people with a Samsung, ICS and bluetooth receiver to test..
That's very interesting information. I will try a single audio stream on the stock player and power amp. But it does happen for me with multiple streams in other apps (PlayerPro for example), but it could be related to how it plays them - perhaps it combines them into a single stream.
In fact, thinking about it, it could well be that. I don't think the previous version of PowerAmp showed the song title over Bluetooth, so it may have just combined multiple songs into a single stream as far as the Bluetooth stack was concerned. But now it does, so that might break the stream each song.
And I had not informed them about it, it was just luck. And they haven't responded to my queries regarding what they changed (which of course, may not matter).
I have already replaced mine (through Amazon), and of course the problem didn't change at all. Meaning it's the software (and perhaps the specific Bluetooth devices), not the individual phone.
I am going to test mine with a different Bluetooth receiver at some point, and might also get other people to try their phone with my stereo. According to the person I've been in contact with at Audible, it is only affecting Verizon customers in the US (that they know of), and haven't been able to reproduce it themselves.

[Q] Audio self muting

I love my nexus 10 but it has an annoying habit of self-muting the audio and then not letting me turn the sound back up again (without being switched off/on).
I've searched but no one seems to be mentioning this issue on this hardware (though earlier devices did suffer).
ANyone else seen it? Any thoughts on cause/solution?
I can't say exactly when it happens but earlier today I was listening to music via google play, multi-tasking. then I paused via drop down menu, did other things and later realised it had self muted and wouldn't let me increase volume.
Odd and frustrating.
Cheers all,
Jay
This sometimes happens to me when I play a Netflix film and try to switch to another app.

[Q] Bluetooth Audio-Play on Connect

Whats up everyone... I've had this phone for a few months now and can say it's easily the best I've ever had.
The only "issue" to speak of that I've found is when my phone connects to my car bluetooth, it doesn't always automatically play. I've tried clearing/resetting pairing, all sorts of different music players (power amp, google play, android basic, etc), even tried to utilize the Smart Connect native app in the phone to start the music player app when connected. I have all available options checked related to automatically playing music on bluetooth connect.
Bottom line, the problem is intermittent, frustrating, and I can't seem to figure it out. Is anyone else out there have a similar issue or have any tips related to this?

What stereo system do you have in your car? I have the Pioneer AVH-X4500BT in my car and each time I start my car up, it searches to auto connect to my phone. Once it does and I have it on Bluetooth Audio mode, it plays whatever song I just had played on my phone.

Also have a Pioneer head unit BT6400 I believe. Have used it with my past 3 phones... motorola and HTC without issue. The behavior you've described is the way all have worked in the past. Now, for whatever reason, sometimes it does not auto play.

Were there any changes you've applied to your phone? Safe bet is to clear out the BT connection in memory and connect as if new. Also try to limit to just one music player on the phone. Because I think it would automatically run off of Walkman, but other players can interfere.

Bluetooth playback issues

Hello all,
I'm experimenting some issues with my OPX while listening to music in Bluetooth.
I have the last update and I use Play Mauic.
1) When i am at the middle of the song and I connect for example, the song starts again on the Bluetooth device whereas on my phone it still display the middle of the song. Like 2:13/3:26 for example. It isn't a big issue but maybe it's linked to the others.
2) randomly, when a song is automatically skipped to the next one, because it has ended, again my player shows that the next song is playing whereas I can't hear anything or sometimes it stutters A LOT, like I can hear one second for each 10 seconds. To fix if I just have to click on "previous" so the song start again and it works flawlessly. This issue happens very often.
Is it a known issue? Is there a fix? I've never seen this kind of issue with other devices ao I'm sure it's because of the OPX.
Thank you.
I got the same issue. It is very annoying. You can also make the title play again by moving the progress slider a little bit back or forward. It happens also with other music players.
Someone answered on my G+ post it happens with headphone jack too. I haven't tried it tho.
I got this problem with my Sennheiser MM100 as well as on my Bose Soundlink 2.
I have also a mini sound link 2.
Buy with my cans it doesn't happen (through jack)
If it's a common problem, let's hope we'll get a fix soon.
I find it crazy that even now there is no fix. It's getting really annoying and 1+ is doing nothing, as well as for the shutters in video playback (on YouTube or Facebook). I'm definitely disappointed and thinking about selling my phone. Did anyone find a fix?
I'm using BlackPlayer, no issues with blueooth playback stutter. Issue 1) is no problem for me, I want to hear the song from start.
No random skips or stutter.

I'm sorry but I don't care the way I should use my phone, I use it as I wish and as I've always done, it's not to OnePlus to dictate me how to use my phone. It's good if you don't care but I do. I don't want to change my habits. However you didn't my problem, it's not about random skips, it just that sometimes there's no more sounds which are casted, so it's a real issue, it's not about the starting over.
Listening to music through bluetooth is just a pain, and the phone is out for months, OnePlus did nothing. That's sad.
I'm on OOS 2.1.3-x and I use Double twist player with no problem over bluetooth. So maybe the problem is Play music

I've never had your 'no more sounds which are casted' issue experince through bluetooth. Are you full stock?
Bluetooth issues
OnePlus 2 is a pretty decent phone, offering good build quality and performance for a reasonable price.
Turn the Bluetooth off and then turn it on back again.
Clear the Bluetooth cache by going to its Settings.
Restart the phone once you have cleared the cache.
Try deleting the old and unused connections and then set up the connection all over again.
Someone tryed Bluetooth playback with the newest 2.2.1 update yet?
Last week Thursday I went back from cm13 to OOS since 2.2.0x "fixed Bluetooth". Well guess what. It didn't. Still the same problem that the next song in line gets mutet after a while of playing music through Bluetooth on my MM100 or Bose Soundlink 2.
Some things I realise:
-Poweramp don't have this issues on OOS since it handles music in an other way. So this might be a workaround for people.
-Play Music or Shuttle+ don't work nice with OOS (I needed to switch songs 27 times in order to make it play again in 6h of playing. That's ridiculous)
-back on CM13 based ROM(and CM13 self) I don't have this kind of problems. Play Music works as it should (guess Shuttle too).
Would be nice to hear if the 250mb big update fixed this bug so I can go back to Stock since I kind of like it.

Hi,
Listening music on my USB/Bluetooth speaker is working like a charm but listening music on my Bluetooth car is impossible (like importing contact and calling)

Streaming music cuts out via bluetooth

Hey everyone,
When I have my phone connected up to Bluetooth in my car I can stream music (from andrewhaug.com app) for about 5-10 minutes before the music stops. If I wake the device it will resume streaming. Has anyone experianced this behaviour? Is there any kind of setting that I need to look at?
Im running DevBase 5.9.
I have tried resetting the Bluetooth settings but to no avail.
I have noticed possible similar behavior. When using my s9 plus verizon with my 2012 infiniti g37 randomly the Bluetooth music will skip on Spotify(every couple of minutes the music I'll pause for a second almost like a skipping CD) Never experienced this with my s8 or s7. Its always been like this with my s9. Never changed any settings or bothered looking into it.
So, somewhat of an update.
Over the past week I have noticed that the music streaming only cuts out IF the app is not the main focus. What I mean by that is; the app has to be running in full screen, like any normal app, BUT, if you exit out of it to the Home screen or go into another app and then lock the phone, that is when the music stops after a certain amount of time. Even though the app has a background service running, for some reason, its not the main app in focus, it gets put to sleep/kills the resources for it.
A bit of a weird quirk. Not sure if its an Android thing or an app thing.
Put the app out of battery optimisation & allow its background activity

I have battery optimization turned off for all apps.
Another interesting issue is when I'm streaming music, a call comes through, and when its done, the music doesn't resume playing. If I resume it like normal, it then stops like the original problem.
I can restart the phone and then it doesn't have a problem.
