Question NO 90Hz... 60 Hz constantly... 90 Hz only on the Lockscreen - Google Pixel 6

Hi there,
I have a question... obviously.
I've activated 90 Hz and dont see any difference to 60.
Then I activated the Developer Options and started the option to see the refresh rate. I also forced the display to do so - however.. No change - Only on the Locksreen if the unlock animation or the fingerprint is animated... I can see 90 Hz.
Does anyone have this Issue too?
Kindly

I reported the exact same thing on the google support forum and to a customer service rep.
Haven't gotten any useful info about it so far.
Pixel 6 never going to 90Hz, except on the lockscreen - Google Pixel Community
Maybe you can reply to my post there, so google sees there's more than one person with the issue
It's really annoying to have this great feature never work.

I don't have this issue with my P6. I've turned on the refresh rate display in the developer settings and it shows a green "90" anytime the phone is used - on all screen and apps. It turns back to a red 60 after a second or two of non-use and will stay there until I touch the screen again. It immediately goes back to a green 90 whenever I touch the screen. Again this is on the lock screen, on the home screen, and while using any app.
I'm on the Nov. Security release. I am not using a screen protector currently.

Mine goes to 60 after a sec of inactivity, but doesn't stay there ... after half a sec or so it switches back to 90, then 60 again, then 90 ... and so on. Without touching the screen of course ... no idea if my tempered glass screen protector could cause that but since it doesn't really bother me I'm not going to deepdive into it

I do think that is probably caused by a screen protector. I forgot to mention (but will edit my post) that I am not running a screen protector currently on my P6.

I don't have a screen protector and the current update installed.

[Q] Smart Stay

You guys have any issues with this?
Mine does not seem to work no matter how I stare at the screen
Is there something I am missing?
Smart Stay only looks for your face and eyes when the screen is about to time out. If you set the screen timeout to be very low (15s), you'll see the eye icon in the status bar just before it dims your screen. If it detects your face and eyes the screen will stay on, if not, the screen will turn off.
I guess it doesn't know who its master is.
Well I guess it doesn't make sense to keep the front camera on all the time. If you want the phone to 'know you' you can try Face Unlock. It works extremely well.

just woke up and seriously i read your name as silverurinal. hehe
now on topic, on dim situations smart stay doesn't work as good as advertised.
i'm guessing it's not using the light sensors for detection but the front cam.
i have tested it, if i seem to notice smart stay doesn't work well then i open the front camera and see if my face can be seen or it's dimmed, if the face is dimmed then that's the time smart stay doesn't work like it should.
the way smart stay works, is every 5 seconds it activates
if it detects you're still looking at the phone then it won't dim.
if it detects you're not looking at the phone then it will just dim the display not turn it off. then it activates the next 5 seconds and if you are still not looking at the phone then it will turn off the display.
No, smart stay is only active just before the screen off timeout.
You will notice the 'eye' on to the status bar, and only when it is active.

Dunno what the other lad was on about with his every 5 seconds!

duhhhhhh
i said it activates every 5 seconds that's very different from active all the time or every second.
i just thought everyone has already noticed it that's why i went straight through and did not bother to detail it out, but since those two who posted after me certainly didn't know then i'll have to explain.
i have set my screen timeout to 15 seconds, smart stay (the eye) activates every 5 seconds to check if you're still facing the phone.
for those who set the screen timeout to 30 seconds, smart stay activates every 25 seconds.
for the rest of the timeouts, you all get the drift.
the reason for that is smart stay isn't only to keep screen on when you are looking at the phone like for example reading webpages etc
BUT ALSO TO TURN OFF THE SCREEN EARLIER THAN THE SCREEN TIMEOUT BECAUSE THERE'S NO USE KEEPING THE SCREEN ON WHEN YOU'RE NOT USING IT ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO SET THEIR SCREEN TIMEOUT TO 1,2 MINUTES OR MORE. SO IT SERVES TWO PURPOSES HENCE THE "SMART" TAGLINE.:victory:

smart stay activates at different intervals depending on what you chose for screen timeout.

do yourself a favor and set your screen timeout to 15 seconds to see if i'm just telling a story or i'm telling it like it is before you post nonsense here.
then go tell yourself a story for your bedtime.

---------- Post added at 06:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:37 AM ----------
here i'll make it simple for ya.
smart stay guide for the lazy dummy.haha :victory:
obviously smart stay has to be on.
1. set screen timeout to 15 seconds.
2. lock the screen.
3. unlock the screen.
4. look at the phone then count 1 to 5 and you'll see the smart stay eye icon.
5. count 1 to 5 again then again you'll see the smart stay eye icon.
6. this time turn away the phone to the side enough that the front cam doesn't see your face but just enough that you can see the eye icon, and count 1 to 5 then again you'll see the eye icon ONLY DIFFERENCE THIS TIME IS THE SCREEN DIMS.
7. with the phone still turned away from your face, count 1 to 5 the eye icon appears THEN THE SCREEN FINALLY TURNS OFF.
now if yours doesn't work like that then maybe you have a FAKE SGS3 and it has DUMB STAY.
:victory:
Settle down mate.
Sorry, don't mean to hurt your feelings, but, nobody cares about your screen timeout settings.....
You should be more specific in your first post, not give an answer applicable to ONLY 1/6 settings! The answer you gave was only useful to those with 15 sec, but you didn't mention that.
For those using ALL other timeouts, the (edit: your) first post is wrong.
The OP was a general question, so the answer is that smart stay activates just before screen timeout. This is applicable to ALL settings.
End of story.

Jesus, I go for a shower and breakfast and I come back to this tirade of butthurt!
Like I said before, cool story bro, I don't give a **** about your 15 second timeout. Go have a cup of coffee or tea or something and have some "you time".

@ radeonxt
The activation of smart stay is relative to all timeout settings.
My tests (approx +/- 1 sec):
15 sec timeout: activation @ 5 sec & dim > again @ 12 sec > off @ 14 sec
30 sec timeout: activation @ 20 sec & dim > again @ 27 sec > off @ 29 sec
1 min timeout: activation @ 50 sec & dim > again @ 57 sec > off @ 59 sec
2 min timeout: activation @ 1:50 min & dim > again @ 1:57 min > off @ 1:59 min
Without me going any further, I hope you can see the pattern staring you in the face.
It's nothing about counting up to 15 secs etc, but smart stay activating just before timeout, whatever that may be.....
In all cases: activation at approx 10 & 2/3 secs before screen off. Not "at different intervals", you're just looking at the "glass half empty" not the "glass half full".
Also, it does not "turn the screen off earlier", but (as the results prove) always the same time before timeout, that is if the device hasn't been touched or smart screen doesn't detect the eyes.
There is no win here or (trying to) being smug, unlike your ": victory:" in your posts.
Keep it cool and factual. Cheers

Well, interesting argument, but whether this feature is turned on or off, I'm not seeing the eye icon ever appear, and my screen is just switching off after the set time. And yes, I'm in good light, looking straight at the front camera.

If your front camera works and you have enabled it (edit: smart stay) in settings >> software issue.
Two things to try:
1. Backup and factory reset
2. Upgrade your firmware to the latest version with Odin

Smart Stay has not worked on mine since the day I got it. Today for another unrelated problem I turned my phone off and pulled the battery out (this is the first time I've pulled the battery out since owning the phone) and put it all back together and magically Smart Stay is working for me now.
Go figure.

[Q] Screen lights up slow after unlocking

The back of my 920 was making some squeaky sounds so I exchanged for a new one. Everything's great except the screen seems to light up much slower when I pressed the power/unlock button. It takes about 2 seconds after pressing the key until the screen lights up. I don't have another 920 for comparison, but my 720 lights up almost immediately after unlocking.
Could someone with a 920 in hand check how long it takes for the screen to light up after unlocking? Should I have this one exchanged as well? Thanks!

Try switching from auto brightness to full brightness and see if it still does it. Sounds like there may be dust or something in front of the sensor so it takes longer for the phone to realize the light level.
My 920 doesn't have any delay when you unlock it

That must be it! When I set the brightness level to manual, it lights up immediately, and the delay is back when I set the brightness to automatic.
Is it something I can clean myself or should I just exchange for a new one? (just got it yesterday).
Mine is on auto bright and it lights right up

It is probably the infamous dust in the front camera issue earlier models had. If you are comfortable at taking it apart you can clean it yourself. Otherwise I would get it exchanged.:good:
I dunno if it's caused by dust near the proximity/AL sensors. I used some compressed air and made no difference. Also I remember reading somewhere Nokia already fixed the issue on newer 920s.
Ended up getting a replacement. Thanks for everyone who helped!
I got mine about a week ago. It takes a little under a second to light up after pressing the button. This is on autobrightness.(will try manual later when I have time) Does that classify as "instant" ?
On manual its slightly faster, enough to notice the difference, but still not 100% instant. but my guess is I can classify it as instant anyway.

Second screen not staying on

I have the setting enabled to keep the second screen on when the main screen is off, but the screen still shuts off with the main screen. Any ideas? I tried switching the setting off & back on again, and also tried a factory reset, but it still shuts off with the main screen. Since it never comes on while the main screen is off, I don't see any notifications or anything.
I talked to T-Mobile support & they were no help, and I'd hate to have to exchange it for another phone.
If the ambient light sensor is covered or blocked it turns off
Yeah, it's actually a smart idea. No need for the screen to be on when it's face down or in your pocket. It comes back on pretty much as soon as you'd be able to check for notifications and such anyway - not an annoying delay at all.

This is all the time. The ambient sensor is working normally when I have auto brightness enabled, but the second screen only works when the main screen is on.
Did you ever get this resolved ? I have the same issue
I solved this problem by checking PINs on mainboard for the second Flex Cable for LCD of LG V10, see the video, READ comments here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpeVAqgU94s, so in my case one of three PINs was folded little, so one PIN contact didn't touch the second Flex Cable and this caused the problem...

Screen Overlay

Is anyone else noticing that you can see ghost images behind every screen?
Is there a fix for this?
TIA

It is called screen burn, there is a thread dedicated to this problem. Search for screen burn on this forum!
I'll check that out but how could it happen and this is the 3rd one I've had and they all did it. That's why i assumed it had something to do with the screen overlay.

life is this with V10, all have the same issue...mine only have 9 months since i buy it and have ghost images since 2 months from today and no solution...the only solution is send it to LG Repair Center and they change it, but mine lose the guarantee when i unlocked the bootloader so...i will not buy the screen since this is a known problem with V10 display.
better keep it going cool and avoid high levels of brightness only when is needed and avoid playing games since that warm up the phone and the screen will show ghost images. Then when it happens lock your phone, shut down the screen for 3/4 minutes and the ghost is gone...you need to do it everytime you see a ghost image and have trouble with them.
i dont bother with that...i love the phone anyway, when the screen die by itself i change it for another, but now let it rock even with ghost images.
Sofwtare side has nothing (mod or app) that can fix your problem...its the display problem (hardware).
Mine has heavy permanent ghosting that appears after minutes of use when the phone has rested overnight. Though I can prevent any ghosting from becoming visible by installing "Bluelight Filter for Eye Care" and set the filter to the black color with an opacity of just 3% (hardly even affects the maximum brightness). Stopping the display from showing the whitest of colors prevents the ghosting to apperar no matter how high brightness you have or for how long. At least on my unit. So now my screen is permanently perfect instead.

I had just did a factory reset and it's actually gone this time. I'm sure it will come back though.
I've been using v10 for a year now this image retention/ ghosting is really annoying but there's actually a solution to it by using screen filter.
if you apply the filter as soon as you turn on your phone after a while, when there are no temporary burns on screen. They won't come back if you keep the filter on.
I use blue light filter but I'm sure every filter will work even if you keep the filter at low opacity for example at 20%, it'll still work.
Give it a try.
and one more thing if the filter is on you might get an error while giving permissions to apps. so you have to turn off the filter when you get "screen overlay detected" error.

Screen start flickering when in charge

Hi guys,
when my phone is in charge at 100%, after some minutes it start to flickering when there is at least an orizontal black line and a white part, for example if there are 2 notifications there is an orizontal black line that separates the two notifications, right? The white part of the notification start to flicker. I tried to hard reset and nothing changed, and also got my display replaced and nothing changed (huawei customer service said they will replace the mb, but idk if this will solve my issue).
Anyone have this issue or it's really a faulty mb ? I tried searching online but it seems that no one have this problem.
I'll upload later a video that will show my issue...
Have you dropped the phone? Even from a small height it could cause problems.
My old p10 plus fell out of trouser pocket and hit the inside of door panel but was enough to cause screen flicker.
I had a hairline crack in digitiser/screen.
It only showed when screen brightness was on low or if phone was cold.
Got the screen replaced and was ok after.

I dropped my phone only 1 or 2 times and always with protection, but even after the display replacement the problem didn't solve. It only flicker when it's in charge and already at 100% and when I unplug the charger, it stop. I noticed this problem only after I got my display replaced for the gluegate... but even after a second replacement nothing changed. I hope after the mb replace, my phone stops to flicker.
I have the same flickering problem with my Mate 20 Pro and have never dropped my beloved smartphone. For as of right now, the current (.232) update may have resolved the issue but it's only been a day since the patch. I will see how it goes.
edit: nope, even after the (9.0.0.232) software update, the flickering issue still remains as the original poster has described.
